I just finished installing my new backrest on my 2006 Suzuki Bergman and although I haven't ridden it yet, it definately feels more comfortable. However, i do have one concern about the design of this backrest that I think might be a future problem in the making. When the backrest is installed, it is much higher off the seat than the factory one. Resting back against it puts more swivelling downward pressure on the ends of the piping against the seat plastic tabs where the ends sit. I'm worried that this torquing downward pressure will end up breaking the seat structure where the ends of the pipes sit when fully installed. I was able to use small plastic tabs cut the correct size to fill in the space between the bottom of the seat tab and the pipe itself. This will prevent some of the movement of the ends of the pipes each time you sit back against the backrest. I am not convinced this will be a permanent solution so may have to reinforce the plastic parts of the seats where this downward pressure is. with epoxy and steel plating. I hope I'm talking about a problem that is not going to happen, but my gut tells me over the longer term this IS going to be a weak point ending up with a broken seat
Just got mine today. Installed in about 10 minutes. Removed the stock back rest to give me about 3" more room. My shins hit the bottom of the dash. Installed the new back rest as far back as it would go. Very comfy and plenty of room for my shins. ( I'm 6' 1" tall) I looked them up based on your review. THANKS!!! 8/15/2020
I purchased my 650 two weeks ago. I received my back rest today, thanks to your recommendation. After a few miles and on/offs I'm pleased with it. I'm 5'8" and did not need any spaces. I plan on cut one set of slots so people can't just walk off with it. Price is now $129.95 plus $20 shipping, inflation I guess. The pros and cons; the butt rest even all the way back interfered with me placing my legs on the ground with out the floorboard hitting me in the shins. No butt rest worked fine but no back support either. This back rest let me put my feet on the ground and no shin issues. Being a big guy the butt rest made it difficult to lean back and put my legs on the floorboard, the first time I tried it today I was very worried that getting my legs up was going to be a big issue, but after a few 'just lean back' and things worked out okay. I'm a bit worried about the brass/copper tubing used to mount it in the holes. BTW mine came with the pipe insulation installed, the lower end is cut at a taper to look nicer. BTW: The hole brass couplings, electrical tape and spacers are a bit chintzy to a nice product.
Thanks for the after-market info. I am thinking of riding in one of the Cannonball runs this summer/fall, sounds like it adds a lot of support. Thanks! Be safe!!
I recently purchased a Burgman 650 Exec. It had that back rest but i removed it. I'm 6'1" and I didn't like the way it fit on my back. I took the rest off but one of the screws was rounded out and i need to get it out so I can install the butt rest. Like your neck of the woods. I went out for a week to teach some classes at the fort.
Looks like there putting out a good product. I made mine but it was some work involved for sure. It's 1000 times better than the butt stop. Great review.
I would think that notches in the tubing would weaken it to the point it might break if leaned on too much. But I do know that I will be getting one if my wife ever buys me my Burgman.
It is made from car headrest. Get from junkyard for 10$ and just banned roads . put tape on rods for size and slight water coper pipe. I got one and that how it is made.
Yeah I tried to look up that website that you were talking about. It’s no way to order? I was looking to place an order. Little backwards for me. Is there any kind of way you can explain or a different website you can to order that particular back rest? Love to order that.
Hi wonder if someone can help with some advice and information. I have a Burgman 650 and am sure the backrest shown will fit it . I am in the UK question is where can I order one from and how much are they plus shipping ? Thanks ride safe . Ken Roberts
Looking at it, it seems to me that you would be losing a lot of legroom. You can't slide it back as far as the original. Why bother cutting knotches in it as it is so far forward now that whatever adjustment you try would only push you forward more. IMO it doesn't look that we'll designed at all

Great Video and thanks for the upload. A BIG thumbs up for this one.
I bought a slightly higher one for the same price, wonderful support on long trips.

Nice job. Where did you get the backrest?
is that not just a headrest from a car seat.. looks like it
I see you also have a backrest for the passenger. Same company?
hello suzukı burgman 200 backrest seat made?
I have removed the buttrest on mine 2014 650 which gave me an extra 2" of legroom. Will this backrest negate that?
2 inches extra that's valuable man you gotta get it where you can.

Looks like a car seat head rest
