This is one of the most gorgeously shot films of all time. Gordon Willis puts on a veritable masterclass in cinematography. The blocking, the lighting. So beautiful, so modern. This film should be mandatory study in film classes.

Dear God...... How-to make ah entrance in a movie, eh? Beautiful, highly talented actress, (not forgetting the actor who touchingly plays the old man), wonderful set-up (lighting & photography are superb) and of course, a mesmerising score (especially for this scene) by Michael Small.
Everything comes together perfectly here, in what is indeed an excellent movie.
They really don't make them like this anymore.

Jane Fonda did in the 70's what Brando did for actor's in the 50's, reaching a new higher level of reality in art.

Yes, this is Michael Small's best track in the whole film. A great scene.

I truly admire the Brilliance of Jane Fonda. I loved the performance of the actor who played the pervert, the murderer. No one mentions his performance. I do not think the actor received enough credit for his performance. He freaked me out. He was Scary. Fonda's character was so realistic and not glamourized. This film (like Coming Home) told a interesting story, much more than entertainment.

It is an amazing performance in an amazing film. Jane Fonda really brings the Method to the screen so wonderfully. My favorite scenes are the scenes she is with her psychologist.

It is very good. I love the scene though where they are out at the fruit market and she takes the piece of fruit. I love what goes on between and Klute and Bree in that scene. You just know their feelings for each other.

She employed "Method Acting" which she had been learning for some time. It allows the actor to display real emotions in scenes where that's required.

What about "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" Imo it's hard to chose between that and Klute for her best performance.

Oh my God when she listens to the tape of that woman being murdered........she's crying, so terrified.... And that psychopath watching her, in her terror..... God! What a scene, those screams stayed with me for days.

The title of the song is 'Goldfarbs Fantasy' and the soundtrack to this film was written by Michael Small. I found the record in a store in London a few years ago and have used this track a couple of times when DJing at burlesque events. Awesome stuff cheers for posting.

I bought the soundtrack because of this music. And it wasn't on the soundtrack! Well, neither was Madonna's Sooner Or Later by Stephen Sondheim on the Dick Tracy soundtrack. Endless tortures vindicated by youtube. We are archivists. And we've found our way into the light.

For you Philistines - watch the movie before commenting - she plays a call girl - the old man is a client who lost his wife and hires her to tell him exotic/erotic stories to alleviate his loneliness. It's still a great film after 42 years. Jane Fonda OWNS the role of call girl Bree. It's tense and creepy. Her first OSCAR.

Great scene. I love the shot as she initially walks in.............shot from the side. The lighting. The camera angle and the distance when she is talking to the older man {and caressing him with her voice and the idea "I've never liked younger men."........."He has silver sideburns and looked alot like you.} I thought this movie was frightening as hell. She was so alone and this weirdo was stalking her. So well done and well acted the whole movie. Do they make films like this anymore?

To this day, hands down her best performance by far in a remarkable, stylish film from the underrated Alan J. Pakula, shot brilliantly by the equally under appreciated Gordon Willis. One of the best films of the 70s and one of the best, most understated thrillers (if you can call it that) ever made. You'd have to go indy to make something like this today; too little action and too cerebral for the multiplex.

I dislike "Hanoi-Jane", but this is a great film and an excellent performance. This especially, is a really touching scene. This old man wants his wife but cannot have her, so in his loneliness and desperation he hires Bree to pretend for him for a little while; no sex, no touching. Just playacting and a fabrication to amuse an old man and keep him company for a little time.

Yes, many pro prostitutes will tell you, this is their fav kind of client - no sex, but it's still tiresome because of the acting you have to do. Please, let's keep the comments to the movie & her performance only & leave Vietnam out of it.

Klute, the Oscar winning piece of crap movie that very few people ever watched. The Oscar was liberal Hollywood's reward for Fonda's anti-war stance and antics. Not her 'B' grade acting abilities.
