Such a great movie! Acting by both was amazing.
On Broadway they did this eight times a week.
George Chulig goodness....
that's one way to stay in shape.
Yes seven days a week and twice on Wednesdays (matinee day) Incredible.
I bet after doing this scene they were both exhausted!
When I met Patty Duke I got to tell her she was phenominal in this... it changed my life.
Patty..ever gracious and listening intently thanked me seriously. She had Helen Kellers niece with her, she was in the Rose Bowl Parade.
It was such a wonderful moment for me and believe it or not for her as well. ❤❤❤
She will always be in my heart.
This is the greatest acting scene ever filmed IMHO. Both Bancroft and Duke won Oscars, and deservedly so. They both put their heart and soul into it.
The slapping was epic. Brava to both actresses.
Truly amazing movie and what a casts too 🤗 RIP Patty Duke and Anne Bancroft both ladies were fantastic actresses 😇😇
I gotta be honest .. That was some of the best acting I've ever seen .. Not trying to sound cliché with the comment .. I took film class in high school (back in '02 .. Whew time went by fast lol) and we screened Cinema Paradiso/Empire Of The Sun/The Graduate/Once Upon A Time In America and so many other great films.. I'm 36 years old and still have A LOT more to see in regards to the older films .. But that sequence was just pure heart and emotion .. Really amazing stuff
This would be considered child abuse today, but this is teaching in its purest, rawest form. It is firm, unrelenting, and while it is hard and merciless, it is not cruel, and it is not without love. Bratty children need to be broken down and rebuilt with boundaries, rules, respect, trust, and love. Such an amazing movie.
Even better is not having a child. Why bring a child into the world and risk going through this? lol
What a dumbass comment. You realize that Helen Keller is one of the greatest figures in history, not to mention a heroine for people with disabilities? @@JamileMendes-ek9xp
@@JamileMendes-ek9xp Yeah, like her parents were psychic and knew that when she was 2 years old she was going to get an illness that made her deaf and blind.
@@debra1363exactly. It’s not a “risk” to go through this or whatever. They just come as they do in all their forms. They all matter the same though.
I said this in another posting, this is one of the greatest scenes in moving history that involves only 2 actors in under 8 minutes.
If you work with individuals with challenging Behaviors you completely relate to this...there really needs to be more Support for Direct Support Workers.
The amount of abuse they are subjected to on a day to day basis you would be amazed. And they Love the individuals they support despite it all. ❤🙏
So true!!
This movie made me realize (I was a young'un) how powerful film could be! Incredible performances all round
One of the more classic scenes in a movie! I love it. The Miracle Worker is priceless.
Two amazing actresses plus a great movie too. RIP Both ladies 💐💐💐💐
They were absolutely amazing. Perfection. Imagine, the child cannot see or hear. She's been in a comfortable routine. Now you must teach her years of learning, undo her bad habits and all in one summer, and be kind
Only Anne was great
Was she really acting blind or was a blind child?
Watching this scene absolutely wore me out. What great actresses Ann and Patty were. RIP. Ladies
Few movies make me tear up .... this one does it every time. I would suggest to anyone who insists Bette Davis was robbed (of the Oscar) this same year for Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, check out these brilliant performances by AC and PD (who BOTH won).
Bette Davis all ready had two Oscar’s, she didn’t need a third one.
They really beat the shit out of each other, my goodness.
mara rose read Call me Anna by Patty Duke, she tells so much.
mara rose i thought it was funny when Helen made a face after Anne smacks her hand
Patty Duke’s FIRST ROLE: playing a deaf/ blind child opposite veteran Ann Bancroft…and she kills it. This battle is right up there with Viggo Mortensen’s Naked Shower Brawl in EASTERN PROMISES, a masterpiece of choreography…
One of the most amazing films I have ever seen. Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke were just phenomenal.
No bwjjwheheheheh
LOL awesome actresses by both...give both gold award again
In spite of the meanness of how they fight each other the scene proves they're kindred spirits. Forces of will to be reckoned with, and that's why they will work well together. They understand each other and whether Helen knows it at that point or not, she *will* try as hard to learn as Anne tries in teaching her.
Great story about one of the most impact full and accomplished people in world history in Helen Keller. Anne Bancroft is one of the 3 or 4 greatest American actresses ever. Quite a combination and of course, can't overlook Duke's great performance which all adds up to producing such an amazing film event. Can't even imagine doing these roles on stage DAILY which each of them did on Broadway.
Both actresses had to be in top physical shape to get through scenes like this. Glad both won Oscars.
It's almost like she is driving demons out of her! It's an amazing scene! Two forceful wills.
Totally flawless performance!!!Completely unmatched to this day and always!!!
Well deserved Oscars.
Wow no wonder they both won Oscar’s .They would have put anyone in their category to shame
My english class watched this in 1977, to say that we were all exhausted by the scene's end is putting it mildly. Anne Sullivan really was Helen's saviour.
absolutely fantastic..
