Just saw Klute again on TV. It truly is a great, soul baring performance, some of the most "real" acting ever put on film. She deserved the Oscar.
Jane Fonda's career is full of extraordinary performances, but I think her work as Bree Daniels in "Klute" is her peak. I have seen the movie dozens of times. I am never tired of it. Thank you, Criterion, for putting a lot of care into the edition of this classic of the American cinema.
Jane Fonda gave an iconic performance in Klute. Her Oscar for this film was so richly deserved, as was her second Oscar for "Coming Home". Great actress!
Teve papel de puta-coisa que ela fazia na vida real.
Criterion hits out of the park with another fantastic gem. Klute has it all! Thrills, chills, felching and hardcore drama. Jane fonda owns as the kids say the charm of joseph stalin.
Iconic. One of the most seminal performances of the 1970s. Pauline Kael about Jane Fonda in Klute:
“As with her defiantly self-destructive Gloria in They Shoot Horses, Don't They?, she never stands outside Bree, she gives herself over to the role, and yet she isn't lost in it--she's fully in control, and her means are extraordinarily economical. She has somehow got to a plane of acting at which even the closest closeup never reveals a false thought and, seen on the movie streets a block away, she's Bree, not Jane Fonda, walking toward us.”
Amazing movie that gets massively overlooked. It’s as good as ATPM (also check out the Paralax View to complete the ‘paranoia’ trilogy). Fonda’s best performance & Sutherland is great. Can’t wait to purchase this.
Still freaking gorgeous at 81!!! I ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Jane!!!!
Just when I thought I had escaped the madness from r/criterion
The "Shag" looked great on Jane and it became a global phenomenon. Very flattering on most women for sure.
Her voice sounds exactly the same as it did in Klute decades earlier, she doesn't sound any older! You go Jane!!!
Who are we kidding, here? The moment Jane Fonda speaks, a man softens. Her voice is like hypnotism. Everything about this woman is unique.
Although I'm not a fan of living that long but if I live as much as Jane Fonda does I want to be as active and healthy as her
siddharth nagar I agree completely, this growing old crap is really not my cup of tea
Wish the full 36 minute can be uploaded. I've bought the Criterion Blu-ray of Klute, and it's great! I also really love this interview Jane did. I could watch it over and over again.
Jane Fonda not just beautiful....vulnerable, inspirational and a warrior
She is so Interesting.
What a great role she played in Klute.
I totally believed her as Bree.
She's Amazing. 💙💜💙
The two definitive female performances of the 70's are Liza Minelli in "Cabaret" and Jane Fonda in "Klute"
The Shag was a great hairstyle!! It was a global phenomenon in the period of Klute!! The cut still works today and is very feminine.
What a iconic legendary woman and her brilliant raw real performance in the award winning Klute! Love Queen Jane Fonda. No one but her could have portrayed her character so deep. 😍🥰😘🌟✨🤩🫶🏻 👑 💎 ⚜️ 🏆
Klute 2 Spine #1000 confirmed
I just saw Klute for the first time and on a big screen. A superb performance, as was Sutherland's. Really excellent cinematography too. So happy I went.
They know
When I saw " klute", I thought that Jane was THE most beautiful=-------------powerful----------intelligent------sexiest woman, on this planet. In fact, I saw it 2 times-----back to back, & loved it more, the 2nd time. There was no one like jane; no one. ------------WolfSky9, 73 y/o
Okay and can we talk about that Norman Norell sequined dress with the feather boa? Total cinema fashion moment for me.
WOW ! ---------------I was mesmerized by jane, in Klute; indeed, I saw it twice in a row, & 2 days later, I saw it for a 3rd time, absolutely taken with her. -------------if -----IF -------- I had been one of " those guys " in the NYC bars, she would have been my ONLY choice. -------------From " meeting her in '68, in Denver, at an anti-war rally, where she showed up in jeans, an army-green shirt, & not a stitch of make-up, I will say, Jane Fonda was luminous. she was also smart, articulate, passionate, & a superb speaker. I was totally taken by her, & had a mad crush. -------Klute, & her roles in the 70's & 80's, only deepened my " crush " .-------------------------WolfSky9, 73 y/o
'klute'
Wow, this really flicks my klute.
man, jane fonda is gorgeous.
I had the pleasure, as a student journalist, of interviewing her shortly before she won the Oscar for this iconic performance as Bree Daniels. She still had the hairdo but was having to dodge horrible things being said and written about her because of her stance on the war. I know many still despise her, but she was so generous to me writing about what it was like to be Hollywood royalty. I would be surprised if anyone in that audience, including her fellow nominees, was surprised when her name was called.
She is so sweet, has such a gentle nurturing demeanor about her.....
Please stick around for a good while Jane. Your Dad and brother are missed.....
I've just been K L U T E D
Really looking forward to getting this blu-ray
You haven't got a klute how good it is
in the 70's movies were effective such as this film
They were a lot more than effective.
@@ricardocantoral7672Yes. Very effective.
I love you miss jane fonda
please remind me the name of the interviewer....
I believe it's Illeana Douglas, but not totally sure of that.
For some reason, The millennials only know her as Hanoi Jane.
They are Kluteless.
Priceless
Klute!!!!!
it's a ✼phenomenal✼ haircut, is why.
Coming here from "Jane fonda meets Viola davis", I stay along. Grateful, thanks for sharing.
its said that raqual welch, natile wood ,and barbara streisand , turned down the before jane fonda
Didn't know about that. The only one (of these three) I can see playing Bree would have been Babs. Very different of course, but yes, Barbra Streisand.
One of our great beauty
World class actress
Jane Fonda is great in "Klute" (and Donald Sutherland is no slouch either), but the movie itself is edited oddly and I have to say, having seen it for the first time about a week ago, it was pretty easy to figure out who the killer was early on in the movie. I would say it is a solid 3 star movie, which is respectable.
the editing is innovative, and keeping the killer's identity a secret from the audience is not always such a priority.
love her
Love her.
Don't bother trying to make sense of the story. Just focus on the characters.
احبها كويييين
Ileana Douglas ain't too shabby, either!
TRES Cool
The hell is klute?
It's the last name of Donald Sutherland's character, Detective John Klute.
Fonda had no clue of what being a call girl/prostitute was like at the time. She's always been a spoiled Hollywood brat. She was the exact WRONG actress to be cast as a call girl, period. It was just another miscarriage with the Academy Awards Committee, which has made other mistakes in their award presentations.
Bella Abzug would've been a better selection for this film.
Pit stop
While I always believed the script was hogwash to a certain extent, I have to give both Pakula, JF and admittedly Donald Sutherland credit for giving the film some substance and that's possibly the greatest compliment I can give to them all.
"the script was hogwash to a certain extent"
what does that mean? who knows?
I have never been able to figure out why, but Jane Fonda has simply always irritated me. She just seems fake. I have never felt that way about any other actor. I usually just like someone and their work, or I don't. I just can't figure out the lukewarm reaction I get when I see a movie of hers or an interview. Just lukewarm. Weird.
i agree. she's the only thing i DON'T like about klute. but she was well cast as that awful character she played.
Jane Fonda can't help she was born into a famous family she said her father didn't show love she lost her mother sick and close off we all have are knocking life people keep saying she is spoiled also she deserved that Oscar 3:11
Like her acting. Despite her politics. Is really hypocritical to be a Marxist activist socialist and be a spoiled millionaire brat at the same time. Still enjoy her acting.
Quentin Tarantino closet pick.
That would be like a two hour long video, but I'm here for it!
Jane is all dressed up like it's the 1970s lol
another example on how politics is not art
Then how do you enjoy...any of the films Criterion releases?
well you are right but many book, films, graphic novels and video games dealt with politics brilliantly also many great artists were either matxists or full blown Fascist so politics is not art but it has big influence on it
I have news for you, all films are political.
The movie is not feminist at all thankfully.
it is
@@marvel096 I dont really see a feminist message in klute but probably this mostly depends on your interpretation
Giorgi Kobakhidze rewatch the therapy sessions and pay close attention. There’s a clear intent there
illeana douglass, ex of martin scorsese?... what happened to her? she looks plastic surgery-scarred here.
I wish someone would put jane in a serbian film
If she was a true feminist she wouldn’t need to ask a friend if it was PC for her to do the role. A true feminist would be able to tell themselves based on the script if it was a good role for feminism or not.
DangerCrow different times
Feminism or her version of it really addled her brain. Checking, even in the 1970s, that it was politically correct shows how restrictive ideology can be.
Feminists never ask female friends for advice?
