    Just got a bottle of this for $15 clearance. Just smelled it and instantly picked up the Apple note you're talking about.

    This was my first time trying dickel and it was fantastic for the price. I’ll probably buy another just to have.

    Hey Fred! I picked up a bottle of this last week, and I'm a big fan for the price. Really enjoying it. Hope you have a safe trip to Tulsa this week!!!

    My friend texted me and told me my local place had about 6 bottles on the shelves, I went to grab a bottle, but I noticed they had one bottle of GD 15yr old. I still hadn't been able to find a 15yr bottle yet, so I grabbed the 15yr old. Sounds like I made the right choice.

    Finally, at 5:10 into the video you said the most meaningful thing. All this "apple core, vitamin, Arkansas truffle" stuff is mostly useless. What really counts is "would you enjoy sipping it?" Now, how would you rate this one against the Dickel #12 which is also 90 proof but quite a bit less expensive? I bought a handle yesterday for $35.

      I disagree completely. I very much enjoy all of the details and I like trying to find them myself when I have the opportunity to have the same pour. Different strokes.

    Hey Fred - always really enjoy your reviews. BTW, I am super excited as I just picked up a bottle of Dickel 13 yr old bottled in bond. My local store was only allowing one per customer and I got the last one.

    Woodford Reserve, Elijah Craig, Knob Creek, 1792, Russell's Reserve, Maker's 46. Those are a few of the bourbons in a similar price range. Where would this Dickel bourbon fit among those? Upper, middle, or lower third? That would be helpful.

    Dickel with more age and proof can be crazy good. I don’t hate any of their regular releases (except the 8, maybe) but that stuff is just boring. It’s very middle of the road like you’re talking about. More releases like the BiB and 15 year could really help rebuild its reputation.

    How apropos! Had a tasting at my house last night and this was one of the selections. Agree with you on the lack of traditional Dickel profile. Weak finish. Seemed like a decent cheap daily drinker or mixer, though I'd rather go for something like JTS Brown, Heaven Hill Green Label, or Old Tub.

      Love this comment. I had this weird urging about publishing this video today. I’ve had many people tell me about buying dickel 8 year in past 24 hours. Universe speaks through Tennessee bourbon, I guess. Lol

      @@FredMinnick Yeah, was an interesting blind with interesting results. Guests had varying experience with whiskey. Selections were the 8 year Dickel, Monk's Road 6 year (sourced), Whiskey Row BiB, the high rye Square 6, and Four Gate Split Stave. Some actually had the Dickel as their top choice. I was pretty impressed by the Square 6. Would be interested to see you review it.

    Is this just a small batch release of the 12? Both 90 proof, and the 12 is in the 6-8 year range, but just isn’t a “small batch”

    I would say a Dickel 8 has more of a fruity body compared to something of its price range like an Elijah Craig which has darker notes like toffee and caramel. If you like cocktails, this one is not for an Old Fashioned. It goes very well in a Boulevardier, those apple, fruity notes you talk of truly compliment the notes or Campari and a good red vermouth

    • @KristopherHart
      @KristopherHart 3 роки тому

      @@DBTdad is that true? I'd like to see some science on that. Synthetic corks are superior to actual cork because there's no degradation or residue left in the liquid. I can't imagine the alcohol could possibly be overpowered by the cork

    I picked up a bottle last week and found this to be the worst whiskey I’ve had in a long time. Just so shallow. No finish. It reminded me of the old Cascade Hollow in the red label from 2008 or 2009. That was priced a dollar below Jim Beam.

      Casey, don't be too harsh on Fred, he is one of the good guys. However at times he could better identify with what his viewers want out of an evaluation and point his comments better in that direction. Like how does this Dickel compare to other bourbons in the $30 to $40 range? So we can better evaluate whether we want to take the plunge and buy a bottle.
