I just snagged two bottles of a local pick of this that was 17 years and 52.3%. Easily one of the best whiskies I've ever tasted! This one is worth the hunt for sure. Great review as always, judge!
Glad to see a review of this. I'm a big fan. I have one open now that's 101.2 proof and it's amazing. But, as single barrels, these can be all over the place. I had a bottle that had a very strong bitter oak note in the finish which was off putting. And, a friend gave me a sample of an 82 proof that was amazing - actually better than the 100+ proof ones I've had. These 80 - 84 proof expressions are close to cask strength and just come from barrels that lost proof during aging. Thus, can be packed with flavor despite the low proof. Cheers!
Very interesting to not be a higher proof, like 80% of premium juice 🥤 I prefer 93- 108( even higher) on Ky.straight Bourbon but-- TN whisky is awesome too! Cheers 🥂 from ETn Smoky Mtns area---
I am glad you let the whiskey open up before you judge it. I usually say 3 pours before I judge myself. Blows me away when I see fresh crack reviews. Great review! Crazy thing is mine is 96 proof and has no heat at all. Crazy how different these are. Wish I could try a higher proof one.
Just brought home a bottle of the 101.2 proof. Flows like maraschino cherry juice with milk chocolate, vanilla, heavy oak spice and a long peppery finish (not a lot of smoke in mine). Fantastic. Great review. Keep it up! Cheers!
Bourbon Judge! Funny story. I’ve been following for the last 8 months or so and today on of my best pals and his wife went bourbon hunting and bought me three bottles (on their way home from honeymoon) and one of the bottles was the Dickel 15 Year. I know it’s a year later but my bottle is 104.8 proof! My first bottle that I finished was 93.4. I have not tried the new one yet. Excited though. Love the channel and that you keep it real!
Heyyy Bourbon Judge I wanted to Introduce my self my name is Vince White from Atlanta Ga wanted to say I enjoy your channell its good to know that we do appreciate good Bourbon and cigars. Keep up the great work!!
One year later, first time to your channel and appreciate your review, well done. I just picked up today a 96+ proof offering and it's very, very good, but the first pour was confusing with it's heavy mineral nose. This quickly disappeared opening up to chocolate and baking spices, the taste has nice oak, again baking spices, bread dough and some dusty chocolate, ....apple pie, yep! We all have different taste experiences but I'm betting that this is one of the absolute best buys for a 15 year age stated bourbon,...sorry Kentucky I mean Tennessee Whisky, haha!
Great video. I bought a 52.3% version, tried it and bought a second bottle. I mean how many 15 year old 50%+ Bourbon's go for under $100? I love the rich flavor and you can tell this has some nice age on it.
You have to visit and shoot at a distillery, If you ever visit Bardstown KY, or anywhere in Tennesse, Please let me know ahead of time. I would love to meet up and buy you a dram! Great episode.
Great review, Bourbon Judge....and what a generous gift! Would be interested to see a Dickel BIB x 15yr shootout. Keep hanging in there w/ the classwork. Hopefully the semester is ending soon, and your coursework will be golf-course studies....😅 Cheers, Your Honour!
Thanks Kerino. Just hit the half way point. 50% done with school. Can’t wait to graduate and hit the course. Btw I like that idea, BIB vs 15 yr shoot out. Fantastic idea...
Thanks for the review.... Oregon had a 101 proof we picked up , best dickel yet! The nose is amazing. It still has the dickel profile but very complex and sweet. An everyday drink for the price I would still pick up a 1792 Full Proof @ $50 or old forester 1920 for $60. But the profile is very different and I will drink this slowly and enjoy it.
I had put off purchasing any Dickel products because some of the reviewers that I watch and tend to agree with on tastes. I bought the 2021 13yo BIB last week and I'm loving it, so I figured I'd watch your review on the 15yo because I can get that at my neighborhood store.
I’m on my 2nd bottle of this and the Total wine here in Daytona Beach carries the high proof version- thankfully. You should sample the Barrel Select Dickel as it’s da bomb too.
I’ve always been a Dickel fan. Love their BIB 11 and 13 yr. I also like higher proof. I will definitely pick up the 102.4 not 82. Keep up the good work. Cheers 🥃
Another great review judge! I’ll be interested to see if this one holds up over time. I really liked the BIB when I first cracked it, but as I went back to it here and there I liked it less and less. Not sure if it was the whiskey or it was me, so I will give a higher proof 15 a chance and see what’s up:)
New to your channel. Nice work. Our tastes match up pretty well. I actually have the 46.7% from Costco and I'm about 1/3 through. First tasting I enjoyed, but I didn't see the extra value and I concluded I'd probably not spend for another, but now I'm more on the fence. Oak for sure. I personally don't sense the "smoke" that everyone talks about w Tennessee whiskey (unlike Isla Scotch, which is among my favorites). I too thought the palette was "hotter" than what the alcohol % would suggest. Good call on some of the other notes you mentioned. Cheers.
The 2019 Dickel BiB has a strong mineral note. The 2020 Bib is very slight. And the 15 (at least the 52% version) is even lighter note than the 2020 Bib. If you love the 2020 Bib this will blow your mind.
@@philc1884 The minerality in the 2019 BiB seems to linger within its heavy 'corn dust' notes. I think it's the best (most interesting/unique) of the three that have come out so far, but that's probably because it just seems to have more of a punch to it. #1 is aged 13 yrs, #2 is aged 11 yrs, and #3 is aged 13 yrs (yet strangely it seems to be more similar to the #2 than it is to the #1).

Dean.. hmm that’s a tough one. If you have other good bottles that are easy to come by, then yeah I would. If allocation is really tough by you, then I’d buy it. Cheers
I love the No 8 and No 12 GD. The No 8 is a great mixer, but the No 12 is great neat. Let the bottle open up some but it’s quality. Try a blind taste and you’ll be surprised
