Its funny how people are choosing their gun based on stoping power & fire rate, as if any of these two guns wouldn’t send you 6 feet under before you can blink once. One well placed bullet is all it takes. Remember kids; real life isn’t call of duty.
The movie "Stalingrad" a German movie, a German officer tell his soldiers if they find any ppsh 41 take them because they are better than their mp 40. In this test, despite two guns are being shot by the same shooter, it is not the way to test the accuracy and the penetration power. Guns needs to be fixated on a clamp or something like that. The way he keeps the ppsh is not the same as he keeps the mp. His left hand on mp stands on the magazine, on the ppsh stands very close to the right hand which makes the control harder, So not a true test. My opinion, ppsh wins in every kind of competition vs mp.
I’ve fired both and while the MP-40 is one of the smoothest firing guns I’ve shot, it doesn’t have the punch or the rate of fore that the ppsh-41 has. German soldiers used them frequently because of their reliability and rate of fire. They were even rechambered to fire 9mm by the Germans.

Not a lot of people talk about how the MP38 was originally a vehicle crew weapon, it's kinda lame for a reason, it shoots slower; saves ammo, has a folding stock with no cheekweld; compact, this is a great gun for vehicle crews, but Germany definitely could've used a better submachine gun for their infantry. Something for example like the MP28 or MP34 which both could use a bayonet, had fixed stocks and had a faster rpm than the MP40.
Both have advantages and disadvantages. But the production of PPSh took significantly less labor costs, it was cheaper. And the Soviet army has much more of these submachine guns, than Germans have MP-40, 38. The PPSh is not the only submachine gun in the Soviet (Red) Army. There was also a SudAev submachine gun. All soldiers like foreign weapons. Except maybe Japanese weapons, I think they racistly thought they were inferior weapons, the same way we see Chinese weapons today, cheap copycat weapons.
@@martin018esp6 That's right. The PPSh was the main weapon in the SA, while in the Wehrmacht it was the Kar 98. The MP was relatively few in number compared to the PPSh.
The MP40 is superior in terms of accuracy but the PPSH-41 is the better of the two in terms of rate of fire, stopping power, magazine capacity and reliability. The 9mm is a more accurate round, but the 7.62x25mm combines velocity of the 9mm with the stopping power of the .45 ACP. Another bonus that PPSH-41 has over the MP40, much like the Thompson for example, is that it can be used as a melee weapon due to it having a solid wooden stock. You can easily beat someone with it because of that. Imagine being in a firefight and suddenly you and your opponent run of ammo. Hitting or striking someone on the head with the PPSH-41 is like getting hit in the head with a baseball bat. The MP40's collapsible stock isn't really well suited for hand to hand combat, all though it still could theoretically speaking. The PPSH-41 is the best out of the two. There's a reason why the PPSH-41 is still remarkably in service in several countries and by many groups and militias world wide to this very day.
The difference in weight is 0.034 kg. It can't even be called an advantage. By the way, faster-firing guns have easier recoil control. Just compare how his body jerks (1:24), (1:42).
My Opa was in the 8th Panzer Division 43rd Abt Panzerjager. In the 70s I had a book on military small arms. I showed Opa the MP40 and asked him if he carried it. He said no and took the book and flipped through the pages and showed me a Ppsh and pointed at it. Here that’s it. I asked why he carried that one he said. “Because it worked” Then 5 years ago I bought a book about the 8th Panzer Division and in the book was a mannequin dressed in a Panzerjager uniform carrying a Ppsh… I found that interesting
I’ve shot both. Three malfunctions with the PPSh 41 none with the MP-40. MP-40 extremely controllable the PPSh 41 not bad but not as good. I’ll take the MP-40.
For me, the PPSH41 because it’s basically the FN Minimi of SMGs. A small caliber cartridge combined with a very high RPM and with the cool drum magazines of course.
Awesome video. Not trying to be a armchair quarterback or anything but I did notice you flinch right before each trigger pull. Maybe you are not used to these beautiful antiques but this is extremely common and even seasoned shooters don't realize they do it. Interesting that your flinch tends to send your rounds only up based on the pattern and spread of the two guns. You can probably just compensate for it but a better way would be to train yourself to correct it. One way to do that is to load a magazine with a random amount of live and dummy rounds and when firing it take your time with each trigger pull. Focus on your movement and take it as slow as you possibly can. You'll notice the flinch when you pull the trigger on a dummy round. The idea is to stop that and to keep pulling the trigger slowly until you no longer do it on a dummy or live round.
PPSH-41. Battle proven to be much more reliable than MP40. On top of that, with the drum mag it was 71 rounds vs 32 in MP40. No wonder Germans were dropping MP40 for PPSH-41 whenever opportunity came.
The DUX-53 and DUX-59 were submachine guns developed at the Oviedo Arsenal in Spain. They were based directly on the design of the Finnish 9 mm Model 44 submachine gun, which in turn was based on the Soviet PPS-43.
Interesting. Both are useful military weapons. But by comparison the M1 carbine was much lighter - at a bit over 5 lbs -, fired a significantly more powerful round, was more accurate, and had a much greater effective range than either the MP40 or the PPSH. I believe I'd take the carbine and accept SA over full auto.

Very nice ...from what I've heard and what you showed . ..PPSH 41 is what I would choose. I'm curious if it has dirt jamming issues like the Mp40 . Thanks for the video
The PPS-43 is sort of like a hybrid between the MP40 and PPSH. Its all metal construction and folding stock have the features of the Mp40. Its ammo, handguard, and magazine takes that of the PPSH. Honestly the PPS is my favorite SMG of the war. But between these two id take the MP40
The ironic part is that German troops preferred the PPSH and Soviet troops really loved the MP-40! I guess it’s true what they say: the grass is always greener on the other side.
Outstanding video. I choose the MP 40 it has a more controllable rate of fire. The PPSH-41 has a harder hitting round but the recoil and high rate of fire put less rounds on the target.
I shot the MP40 several times on a military range. Military Jokey target at 340m. 10 trigger pulls, each 2 rounds, prone, every pull one diving jockey. Nothing to complain. The German army had at the beginning a lot of jamming with the MP40, until they did find out, that the problems were the magazines. Which was later solved and it was reliable.
@@andrewforward3812 I do not dispute your personal achievements, but the data of practical shooting are different: PPSH-150 m (from the memories of soldiers even less) MP40-100m, Thompson-50 m.
I used to have an MP40 and now have 2 PPSH41s. For the fun factor the PPSH41 wins but not for ergonomics where the better one is the MP40. The ergo on a PPSH41 with a drum is terrible not to mention the problem of not having a pistol grip. The PPSH41 has the upper hand on the power of the round, solid construction, reliability and that it is auto and semi fire. The MP40 wins on ergonomics, magazine changing and handling. Just note that the Russians then made the PPS43 with a stick magazine a mag well like and a folding stock like an MP 40, what does that tell us? In the choice of only these two, I guess I would take the PPSH41 with the stick mags. If the PPS43 has a selector switch in my opinion it would be the best subgun of WW2 with the best features of both the PPSH41 and MP40 less the selector switch. Also the PPSH41 is only an inch shorter than an AK47. In a modern SHTF situation where I needed a subgun I would take the Vz26.
Both, but I lean towards the MP40 for lightness, control of fire and ease of use in combat. These range tests are not a good combat comparison. PPSH-41 you will blow through rounds, its bulky and a pain to lug around all day. STG44 over both of these though! :)
You would do short bursts in real combat so that's not an issue. Although the Nazis probably preferred to have controllable mag dumps when dealing with unarmed civilians. Design philosophy, I suppose.

All soldiers like foreign weapons. Except maybe Japanese weapons, I think they racistly thought they were inferior weapons, the same way we see Chinese weapons today, cheap copycat weapons.
It's not that they preferred it, it's that they needed every SMG they could get their hands on.

The German in me says MP-40! But my Soviet heart says PPSH-41! I'd love either!
I really loved both but PPSh-41 is mostly my favorite
MP-40 for me. More easily controlled and less weight to deal with.
More recoil and worst accuraci hmm..
And weight its not that much different 34grams+- with normal mags.
I agree
The difference in weight is 0.034 kg. It can't even be called an advantage.
By the way, faster-firing guns have easier recoil control. Just compare how his body jerks (1:24), (1:42).
@@swe1733 "easier recoil control" yeah we all saw how he hit less rounds with the faster firing gun....
@@joe125ful The MP40 has less recoil and better accuracy though

God I love both of these SMGs but I gotta go with the PPSH-41 on this one
PPSH 41 VERY NİCE!
I love mp40s

Yes, but drum mags are heavy, and I think every soldier holds 1-2 drumags(or one drum mag in gun and 2 box magazines with capacity of 35 i think)

Yeah I would say maybe PPSH
it's so chill to watch a video of somebody shooting some guns without commentary
PPSH any day and twice on Sunday!
Stalin's Brrrrt machine vs Facist Ratatta
This is quite possibly the most based video ever poasted by any channel. Thanks!
I appreciate it man! Thank you!
PPSH-41. Battle proven to be much more reliable than MP40. On top of that, with the drum mag it was 71 rounds vs 32 in MP40. No wonder Germans were dropping MP40 for PPSH-41 whenever opportunity came.
This was really fn cool. Thanks for the vid
Thanks! Good luck!!!
There's a reason the Carbine was the most recaptured weapon on the Western Front
Always liked the carbine.

@@6610storm
The vast majority of Tokarev cartridges are FMJ, but even with steel cored ammo, the metric for judging stopping power is the same. Terminal Ballistics at Target = Stopping Power; over penetration is just wasted energy...From a 12inch Barrel @100M -> 7.65X25mm =750 Joules; 9X19mm = 660 Joules; 7.62X33 =1310 Joules...The figures show the Tokarev superior to 9X19 Para but Sh1tting on the Carbine's effectiveness is a mistake, go ask Raphael Trujillo or Bugsy Siegel their opinion of the 7.62X33's Stopping Power?
Very nice ...from what I've heard and what you showed . ..PPSH 41 is what I would choose. I'm curious if it has dirt jamming issues like the Mp40 . Thanks for the video
It has even for water or freezing.
These are great videos. Thank you!
Ironically, both sides were supposedly envious of each others' smgs.
Soldiers tend to envy foreign weapons
And I thought the first gun rivalry was Vietnam with the AK vs M16
Talks about the curiosity to use another weapon, also it's war they got what they found to fight.
1:24 dang i though call of duty world at war got the firing sound effect wrong but it’s pretty spot on
The PPS-43 is sort of like a hybrid between the MP40 and PPSH.
Very nice test...two off THE best maskinpistols on wwll........
That PP is a Fucking Monster 👹 lol
It would be a mp40 for me because if the controlability yes even if the ppsh can singlefire
340 m of mp40? A joke?

Excellent video!!

I think PPSH wins. If only they had been made to better spec.
Two great weapons

What's with the cuts during some of the PPSh shooting footage? Was it Jamming or something?
Both, but I lean towards the MP40 for lightness, control of fire and ease of use in combat. These range tests are not a good combat comparison. PPSH-41 you will blow through rounds, its bulky and a pain to lug around all day. STG44 over both of these though! :)
You would do short bursts in real combat so that's not an issue. Although the Nazis probably preferred to have controllable mag dumps when dealing with unarmed civilians. Design philosophy, I suppose.

MP 40 slightly edged it. Your a great shot mate. 👍
You gotta get your hands on some old Zastava rifles if you haven’t already :)
I will say mp40 in my opinion
