An awesome Pre Amp. I've been using it since the 90s and for the last few years I've moded it to the 3 Tube Mod.

I love the idea of having the 3TM but I’d only do it if I picked up a second mp-1 so I could keep one stock! I do have a noise mod and upgraded transformer already but haven’t had the time to have someone install them yet.

I rocked the MP1 for many years. I used either a BOSS GE-7 or in later years an Alesis M-EQ 230 dual 31 band eq and BBE for some low end enhancement. I could not hang with the thin sound, but it did not take much to beef it up.

I used my MP1 as my gig rig from 1999 to 2002 going through a Marshall Valvestate power amp. I still have it sitting in a flight case unused. Thanks for the reminder of this classic preamp!

Bust it out! Hopefully the battery didn’t die on you losing your presets 🤞

I have an MP1 and I like it very much. Unfortunately it is a rather old machine and therefore the internal battery is dead. I mounted a new one (welding it), but it doesn't keep the original presets or even my memory adjustments. A great pity! If I could memorize the settings, I would use it much more often.

Mine also does that. You can get a battery tray to solder in so you only have to change the battery like normal but I’m not sure that would solve your issue unless the battery in yours is currently soldered in backwards?

I think you guys did a good job of dialing in what tone you could from it, but the MP-1 is still a turd IMO. For some reason, the internets have made it out to be something it never was...which was a great preamp. It always sounded thin to me and with you guys running it through a good cab with a thick sounding guitar, it still sounded sizzly and woofy... no real character to it. Thanks for the run through.

It’s definitely got a character to it that’s for sure! I do enjoy using it a lot but it wouldn’t be my go to amp.

Within broad limits, it sounds like the real challenge with that rig is to find a BAD tone. So greasy. So captivating.
Maybe help Mike to look at the right camera, on occasion. That would be cool. And greasy. You guys are altogether too nifty.

I’ll have to grease up the lens like they used to do back in the adult film days. It’ll help Mike stare into the lens (he likes grease for sure) and make us look a little handsomer!
