    Thank you for following me here on UA-cam. Bear in mind the purpose of this channel is mainly for customer updates and edification, random and contemporaneous blabbering, and etc. I rarely post "How-To" related content. For more how-to focused guitar amp content, visit @BradsGuitarGarage @PsionicAudio @d-labelectronics @UncleDoug and all the other greats, who are smooshin' it on a daily basis.
    Do not attempt to service electrical devices without understanding the risks involved. Tube amps present the opportunity to injure oneself critically or fatally in a multitude of ways. Do not be lulled into a false sense of security based upon the volume of readily available content on the subject matter online.

    I had an early one that I bought new in the 80s. UPS broke the font panel off. I kept it for a long time but never got it back together. I threw it in the trash sometime in 2012 or so. I kinda regret it but I have enough gear to keep running.

      UPS breaks a lot of hearts around here too

    I got a MP-1 back in the early 90's because all of my guitar heroes used them. Unfortunately I wasn't impressed with the sound of it so I sent it back. I wish now that I kept it.

      Same thing happened to me - exactly. My problem was running it through the front end of a cheap practice amp. Ah to be a naive teen again haha.

      @@thatampguy yep! 16 years old and plugged it straight into the front of my mesa/boogie 50 cal. Combo amp.

    Have you made ant mods to reduce noise? Or simple electrolytic swap will do the trick?

    • @thatampguy
      @thatampguy  6 місяців тому +1

      I upgraded transistors, fets, caps (40+), chips, and more on one of mine and didn't experience a massive reduction in noise. Wasn't worth the risk or expense. There are baked in limitations to what can be achieved thanks to the pcb design. Having done all that, I just recommend routine maintenance and maybe metal film resistors at the input stages and plate supplies. Not even worth that to be honest. A nice noise
      gate in the loop will do way more at less risk.

    I have a top switcher type MP-1 which works but is down on gain. Tubes are good, I tried new high gain tubes, it didn't help much. One of the output jacks is broken off. I think it's due for at least a full cap job. I want to contact you and find out what you charge for a full overhaul.
