In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine in 1992, Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain noted that the hit 1972 album "Christian and the Hedgehog" Boys was a huge inspiration for Nirvana's 1991 hit album "Nevermind". "It was the most amazing and beautiful thing I'd have ever heard" said Cobain. Other notable musicians that have drawn great influence from Christian and the Hedgehog Boys are Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Dead Kennedy's, Metallica, and Rage Against The Machine. Sadly, the band would shortly disband following the release of Christian and the Hedgehog Boys due to the unfortunate death of Sonichu due to a cocaine overdose in 1973. "They left a legacy, Christian and the Hedgehog Boys will forever go down to be one of the greatest and most influential bands in history" said Page in a 1979 interview "If it wasn't for Christian and the Hedgehog Boys, I don't think the punk genre would be here today, they were the first punks" said Biafra in a 1984 interview.
You forgot about 2Pac talking about him. In a 1995 interview with 2Pac (20 days before he died) he said “Christian and the hedgehog boys were like my father. I remember blasting them while doing a drive by.” In a song on the album All eyez on me titled ‘Holla At Me’ he says “We can all agree Christian is a real G and I’ll be ready if black sonichu comes at me. So holla at me!”
@@polygoner6679 @Gilly Illy And lets not forget about that interview Kanye West did with TMZ in 2005 he said, "Christian and the Hedgehog Boys was a huge inspiration for The College Dropout. Without Christan and the Hedgehog Boys there is no college dropout. Without Christan and the Hedgehog Boys there is no Kanye West." On his hit song Jesus Walks Kanye states, "Chris Chan walks, Chris show me the way because the devils trina break me down." and, "Chris Chan walks, I wanna talk to Chris but I'm afrade cus we ain't spoke in so long."
@BambiKiller Also recently just a couple of months ago,Chris released a documentary about his experience within the legendary band. “..I just can’t believe I’m one of the last dam members alive in the band.” Chris said to the producers on as he took out a old photo of him and his former band mates. But the documentary was quite interesting as Chris talked about his experiences with Sonichu and the time they got pulled over for having 5 ounces of marijuana within their back trunk and what really happened the day Sonic the Hedgehog got into that horrible go kart accident which ended his life only 5 years after the death of sonichu.
i remember jello biafra stating in an interview that the social and political commentary in this album inspired him to write the lyrics for Police Truck and California Uber Alles
You're not that far off with the Nirvana comment considering Cobain was a big fan of Daniel Johnston. Although, he had actual talent and created some good songs, and a couple of great ones.
I remember when they performed in Detroit in 2003. People were getting carried out on stretchers with knife wounds and broken bones, the moshing was real
Yeah man, Slayer refused to tour with them after that! They were just too intense for them. I heard back in their early days even GG Allin was afraid of them.
@@Nick-qf7vt I heard that the reason they didn't tour was because Sonic and Kerry King kept having arguments over who was the bigger endorsed artist with B.C Rich, even though sonic only started the endorsement less than a year prior to the self titled records tour. This resulted in plenty of heated arguments and on 3 sperate occasions, they had started a violent fistfight with one another. I've heard that despite that, Chris and Tom Arya were still good friends and supposedly that Chris went to Jeff Hanneman's funeral.
I got to see them at this one CBGB-esque club in 1999. They were very rough around the edges, but they really had something special going for them. Even back then. The janitor had to put a wet floor sign out on the floor because the girls were so wet. It was insane. The record companies were gonna all sign them at once, but Sonichu said, "No. It's all about the music, man. We can't just sell out like that!" It was legendary.
Beary the Bear Because he has no access to kids, that's why. It would have been a different story if his older half siblings had dropped their kids off there, because they needed a sitter. jokes aside, there is something genuinely magical to this. We live in the best time in human history, where not only can low-income, mentally handicapped individuals can create music like this, but share it with the world. There are serious artists who cannot amass 10% of the views of this video. Yeah, it sounds horrible, the artwork is terrible, but Chris has cemented himself in history. I am 100% convinced that long after Chris has passed, The works of CWC will hold genuine value. Even if his torture was all self inflicted, or caused by his naive nature, I can't think of a more tortured artist than Chris Chan. His story will become a cautionary tale
Chris Chan is a true artist. I've never heard an album this eclectic as this that's still a cohesive work of art that can be listened to from. Each song is unique in its own way but each track can transition to the next without a problem. Chris-Chan went beyond simply imitating what his idols. With influence from a multitude of genres spanning decades, he created a groundbreaking work that manages to be experimental without being too abrasive for the listener. In this album, he expresses the vast array of personal struggles, such as the trolls who viciously torment him out of their envy for Chris-Chan's creativity and artistry and his involuntary celibacy which has forced him to drink his own semen in order to recycle it and save it for his dream boyfriend-free girl. Although somewhat underpinned by an occasionally weak vocal delivery, this album manages to excel in virtually every imaginable aspect and ranks among the greatest in he entire 130 year history of recorded music. I give it a solid 9/11.

I heard when the band broke up, sonichu went on a half decade-long bender on narcotics and every drug in existence, Christian Weston Chandler ending up being a cross-dresser and the others, I don't know what happened to them to be honest But I have heard that Sonic the Hedgehog has got reconstructive plastic surgery and made his arms blue which has triggered Chris a lot. EDIT: holy shiitake mushrooms! Chris is now in the slammer for doing his mom! Looks like the Christian and the Hedgehog Boys reunion at the 2023 Superbowl isn't gonna happen sadly.

One of the most influential and underrated groups of their time. Beautiful. Their sound was truly unmatched at the time! So many musicians took inspiration from these pioneers. I wish they still made music like this... this generation will never realise the heart and soul that this type of music was a product of.
I saw them at a club once where skinless opened for them and even though their shows are brutal once Christian and the hedgehog boys showed up they legit burned down the club and 45 people died
Do you like Chris Chan & The Hedgehog boys? Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when So Need A Cute Girl came out, I think he really came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Chris has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor
In '06, Chris released this, Christian & The Hedgehog Boys, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "So Need a Cute Girl", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the torture of loneliness, and the importance of sex, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.
Saw them back in 2001 on their tour of Molvania. They had Paul McCartney supporting them. We were so frantic to see the Hedgehog Boys that we booed that old fuck off. The crowd went crazy when they did So Need a Cute Girl. People were crowd surfing, there was a pit opening up at the front. People were smashing shit and lighting fires. It was like the music just ignited this primal fire in us all. I went home with two broken ribs, a black eye and a head full of memories. God bless Christian and the Hedgehog Boys RIP Shadow 🌟
Chris's decision to sing over lo-fi mic recorded samples of dated 2000s pop songs--a bold aesthetic conceit in itself--is clearly social commentary on the disposability of art in our consumer media landscape. Furthermore, Chris's atonal vocals clearly take cues from the avant-garde fringes of the 70s and 90s post-punk scene (Pere Ubu, This Heat, etc), yet he recontextualizes this vocal approach with a certain middle-American outsider sincerity. Wow. Just wow.
Truly one of the most underrated songs of all time. Shame it wasn’t released as a single. Never even heard it played on local Alternative Stations. Has no right to be as much of a deep cut at it is.
I still remember being at their 2004 Coachella performance. The moshpit was insane, I still haven't recovered to this day, but it was worth it cause the performance was the greatest thing I've ever seen. Chris's vocals were insane, everyone else did an incredible job. Thank you CATHB for the incredible performance. RIP SHADOW
So true! The mosh pits at all of their shows, whether it was a full outdoor concert, a club, or some abandoned building, were always fucking brutal! Seriously. SOD, Black Flag, Cryptic Slaughter, Napalm Death, Megadeth, Slayer, Discharge, Minor Threat, Circle Jerks, and Cannibal Corpse all had mosh pits way more tame than CATHB
So sad that Shadow died after their performance in Munich Germany. Such a shame that he was found in his greenhouse at his home in Seattle. Should have just put the gun down.
I attended these guys’ Y2K concert in New York. At the time I was homeless, damn near broke, and hooked on a few drugs. I heard these guys were in town and decided to see if they were as good as I was hearing they were. That concert and their music changed my life forever. After leaving it I kicked my drug habits, attended a local community college to major in business, and now I’m the CEO of a major blueprint drafting firm. These guys changed my life and I listen to their music every day.
I went to the Super Bowl back in 99 when these guys played the half time show. Absolutely incredible performance, everyone was mesmerized by these guys. Greatest band of all time hands down.
I can’t wait for the Netflix biopic on these guys. The casting is perfect with Jared Leto cast as the legendary front man, Ben Affleck as sonichu and Natalie Portman as Chris’s mom.
This is far from the most shameful thing he's ever done, which can only give an inkling of an idea to the unfathomable horrors lurking in tardzilla's library of crap.
I remember seeing this band in 2003. Truly an experience of a life. Made me burst into tears hearing Christian sing his heart’s desire. Kinda smelled there but it was absolutely incredible. My kids are growing up to Christian & The Hedgehog Boys and they love them so much
God, has it already been 13 years? Wow, I remember going to one of their concerts back when they were touring back in 08' I got to get one of their autographs backstage, shame I lost it while moving
The most important Lo-fi Emo album of all time in my personal opinion. The fact they were able to play with so many genres and styles while retaining their Emo roots, with a beautifully Lo-fi production style is amazing. I heard they recorded this album in a forest cabin in a rural area in either Uruguay or Chile. Explains a lot of the inspirations from hispanic/Latin-American music. Heard there were some demo tracks that were to be released later on in a deluxe edition box-set, but all of the tapes were destroyed when Chris’ house burned down. A damn shame, there are a few bootlegs out there that have live performances of those songs, but there haven’t been any digital rips, and the tapes themselves are extremely expensive. Hopefully they’ll rerecord and release the scrapped demos in 2023 as a 20 year anniversary reissue. It’s a damn shame they only released an EP and 1 standalone single, it would’ve been great to see their sound properly evolve after such a pivotal moment in their sound. No one will know for sure how things could’ve gone.
I bet it would get so violent it would be more violent, raucous, and crazy than an 80s Black Flag show, a Slayer concert, and a Pantera concert combined.
EggOKTOBERFEST Gg well I heard rumors that they're going to be coming back and early 2018 and will release a live album in the spring of 2018 and then release a real album in late 2018 or early 2019
Used to own a collection of their records. Damn shame they disbanded, still pop this album into my record player when I'm feelin' down. The UA-cam version doesn't quite capture it.
Ah, Christian and The Hedgehog Boys. My dad went to their first concert back in 1969. He told me the crowd was so excited a full-on war broke out in the car. 5 of the 100,000 people in the crowd survived. He was one of them. I went to one of their concerts in 2000, and let me tell you, it was just as insane, especially since Sonichu was on his 1-year drinking spree for the new year. Bastard went ahead and threw his container of bottles into the crowd, causing a shit ton of glass shards to stab a bunch of people. Only me and some depressed college kid survived the night. Such a shame the hedgehog boys were killed in the tour bus accident back in 2009. Nobody knows what happened to Chris since then. Hope your okay, Chris. Stay rockin!
@@ProGremlinPlayer The 2nd one I believe is called comeback. The sound quality is even worse, and overall not as memorable as this album. I'd say the only real standout was "Trollsta's Paradise (Clyde's Song)". There was another one he did during the tomgirl phase that I can't remember for the life of me. If you check the CWCKI they probably list it.
Met my wife of 52 years at one of their concerts. One of the most magical nights of my life. Went nearly crazy when they started playing Yellow is a Mellow Color.
Lost my virginity at one their concerts back in 1996. Good times.

That's the best comment I've seen on this vid

But I have heard that Sonic the Hedgehog has got reconstructive plastic surgery and made his arms blue which has triggered Chris a lot.

Christian & the Hedgehog Boys > Twenty One Pilots

I actually really hate Twenty One Pilots so I feel that
Do you like Chris Chan & The Hedgehog boys? Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when So Need A Cute Girl came out, I think he really came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Chris has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor
Is that a raincoat you're wearing?
Hey paul
Commercially and autistically*
Why Elvis Costello specifically.
@@asurlybarber3620 why yes it is!

Now let’s see Paul Allen’s cover
Hey, Liquid!
God bless Christian and the Hedgehog Boys

Wow. Just wow.
“Yellow is a Mellow Color” has to be one of the best ballads in rock history.
Truly one of the most underrated songs of all time. Shame it wasn’t released as a single. Never even heard it played on local Alternative Stations. Has no right to be as much of a deep cut at it is.
“And I never want to hear, I have a boyfriend” bruh what a musical legend. His mom must be so proud.

People in 1990: The internet is so awesome! It can only get better and more advanced from here!!!
2006:
Great comment
Now for their live in prison album
