If you’re used to radiators for heating your home which uses just an on-and-off control, you might find that underfloor heating systems are quite a different animal. Getting optimum underfloor heating control might seem tricky.
You see, heating a thermal mass, especially with a screed floor application, it’s all about getting heat into the floor and maintaining it.
The trick to underfloor heating is running the system longer for better results and efficiency. Once the heat is in the fabric of the floor, it can be maintained through a thermostat. Studies and tests have shown that running your underfloor heating system at the same temperature for 24 hours may just be the most efficient way to operate it.
With great underfloor heating design and installation should come great underfloor heating control. Keep watching to see what solutions and latest underfloor heating system technology from Multipipe can work best for your home.

If constant heat at a lower temperature is better than on off, should those of us who have thermostats and actuators on the manifold just switch off the wiring centre and does that allow all the zones to open by default, or are the zones shut off until the actuator powers them open? I have a 2005 Wirsbo system with 4 wire thermostats in each room and brass manifold with actuators and a wiring centre. I’m wondering if I can just switch it off and whether the heat still flows? Then maybe if I don’t need some rooms heated, can I remove individual actuators and use a G clamp to hold the pin down to shut off that zone?

Unfortunately, all actuator work on a normally closed so will shut the loop when the power is off. if, however, you want to run from one thermostat you can remove all actuators then when that thermostat calls for heat will heat all rooms at the same time.

A qualified professional should always carry out all heating system work. In most cases, the system tends to be pressurised with high-temperature water. If it were to fail, this could cause a system issue but, worse, danger to you or your family. This is, of course, in the UK, but it may differ from country to country.
