Btw, the biggest problem with this new ceo isn’t that he wants to cater to the old boys (he doesn’t) it’s that he wants Harley Davidson to be the most premium brand of motorcycle in the world, and his idea to achieve this is by simply “raising prices.” He doesn’t understand that to garner a premium price tag you must deliver a premium product.
Case in point: the new Harley Nightster.
Should have every feature available and make 100hp for the price they’re asking.
I've owned Harley's and Japanese bikes more Hondas than anything else. I really think Harley waited to long to make a motorcycle that younger people wanted. Ashamed they didn't make the Bronx. Buell was on the right track.

@@rkow8508 I agree with you on the all-round best of the m0t0sycles I wood have to say of all those I have ridden & owned the ACE 1100 Shadow 98 ( first year produced) sadly for 2 yrs ONLY thanks to Harley) is by far the best I have ever had in my life. Well he got it crazy wrong even based on financial results of company 🙂 What is most funny is attempt to make it product for the rich. Well either it is expensive and so well build that it stays running for 50 and more years on one engine - I think we all know they are not there 😀 Or it is expensive, failing, but is manually build and really exclusive like something from Italy - well no surprise he failed there too 😀 Actually China with Italy shows with SWM Custom V1200 Stormbreaker that you can still build Evo motor, have it air cooled, have it pass emissions and even make more power then H&D and to provide it for price of ex H&D for blue collar workers. Fun aside....they are only one making motorcycle with "soul" and relatively simple and very different engine with torque in the range where it makes sense including sound (even from M8 you can get that). All of the others are in the arena of overcomplicated engines making 100, 150, 200 horse power which you can't anyway use on the roads with that amount of traffic or amount of radars everywhere. Yep, had superbike with 150 horses, able to use them, but if anyone is honest then he/she knows the truth that it's not bike for regular traffic. But PR from vendors is great about need of having those 🙂
Well now they are trying to go the way of the woke which is the worst possible route to go. Don't seem like they've fully dove in yet but they are clearly dipping their toe in and expect they will get their toe back. No they will lose a toe and if they continue this route, they will lose everything and forever destroy the Harley name.
I was about to buy a 2022 Harley 48 from Harley dealer then changed to Indian Scout Rogue after seeing Harley try to bail the Bud Light Groomers out. Pushing beer on children through a lgbtq propagandist with millions of followers who have an average age of 15 is way too far and we need to reject it every time it rears it's ugly pedo head. Harley didn't do it but they are attempting to help hide the body. They are trying to normalize pedoism and already changed the term and meaning to "Maps" aka Minor attracted persons! It's already implemented on the Lgbtq flag that every corporation and Democrat is shoving down our throats on tv, in all sports, commercials, in schools and making into 4 holidays and a whole fkn month! I'm not writing Harley off, I'm just gonna be watching what they do and I hope they succeed and do what's right not trendy with Democrats.
The younger generation doesn't spend the extra coin for the brand name. Those days are almost over. If they buy a Harley it's because they like the style. They have to find a way to get costs down because Honda and Kawasaki are just a better bang for your buck.
I agree with you on this almost completely. the fact the honda has everything nighster does and more at less than 10k proves the price is unnecessarily high. I love this bike and would own this bike no question, but it's hard to make a case for it when the rebel 1100 exists.

Most bikes are cheaper and better in nearly every measurable sense than Harley.
But if a Harley is what you want, nothing else will cut it. Plain and simple.

@@geraldscott4302 Get off your high horse as HD is not attracting new riders that's what counts, and price it dose plays major role in this as a new rider is more likely to get financed with Honda Rebel 1100 $9.4k hundred versus a Harley Nightster $13.5k when there's a big gap in overall price of almost 6k in overall differences by adding in dealer handling, freight charges, state tax's, plate license and so on, As for Eril Buell he didn't failed the problem was prices of the bikes back then where to high he could not compete in any market.
I wouldn't mind a nightster or a sportster S. The biggest issue is price. I could get my pick of any of Yamaha's MTs, or even a different muscle cruiser. Harley needs to get their pricing in check if they want to sell to younger riders. Harley's heritage is mainly to do with flat tracking, which hardly anybody knows about, and building bikes for a world war. They need to make bikes for everyone.

I agree, they need to bring the prices down for entry level Harleys. I love my Softail, but that isn't a beginner bike when it comes to price. Hard to get someone to be loyal to your brand if the cost of admission is to high.
Yes, they just needed to upgrade the Evo. The new Sportster still looks good, just not classic enough.

As a rebel fan the Rebel also has customizable rider modes (like the sporter s) plus it has a storage compartment and cruise for 10k. Life of Burch did a good comparison. I forget which channel but I saw a channel compare the fit and finish on the sporsters, sporster s, and nighster. Nightster has a 15k tag for rebel build quality. Plastic panels and turn signals that even the sporsters didn't have.
As a previous 2010 Nightster owner, I would just like to say, I think HD literally took in all the old sportsters that were traded in, popped out the old engines and replaced with the new one, and are now selling it as a “New” Nightster. The price tag is unbelievable.
I want the Bronx so badly. But I would honestly settle for a modern version of the XR 1200 made out of the current sportster S. make it taller, give it mids or rear sets standard, steeper rake, and dual disc brakes 👌. I can honestly live with the 160 front tire despite the drawbacks. It gives it a good style

They don’t want those riders - they don’t want a rider who buys a good value motorcycle and gets gear at cycle gear- they want their customers to spend more , and only with them. Harley/Ducati/triumph are looking at getting the “lifestyle” dollars more than others -Indian a little too.

If they would have structured themselves with lower priced bikes they could be cleaning up this summer with the insane gas prices but instead those young entry level riders are buying Honda Rebels and Royal Enfields. Hey spite, I bought the new nightster as a first bike and the big thing I like is metric cruiser performance but ergonomics that fit my american size but waiting for break in to be finsh to give my full recommendation. Love from Michigan

You're not wrong. Why not have a low cost bike to get people into the brand and keep them there? Exactly why I didn't get an 883 as my first bike. Everyone telling me I'm going to drop it so I'd rather drop my $5k Rebel and not a $11k 883. And now that I'm ready for a bigger bike I have to spend $11k to get the "baby Harley" and still have to upgrade from there.
I just cherish yammie's outtros, and little "commercials". They're just gold. Stay golden papa yam. Legitimately I ENJOY binge watching yammie noob. There's just not many channels I will always stop watching something else to watch, except this and a few others.
I never had any interest in HD until Project LiveWire. Then the Sportster S and Pan America came out and the ride experience really blew me away. I don’t mind the classic Harley style and want those customers to have their needs met. The classic bikes aren’t for me but these new bikes actually get me excited so I bought stock in the company to help see it forward. I am rooting for the Bronx. What a machine that can be!
I’m intrigued by the duality of HD, simultaneously the #1 brand in the US, yet somehow on the edge of collapse for the last decade plus.

Harley has always been close to falling apart from the inside out. They live on that edge.
That's what economic intervention does. The company is rotten to the core but propped up artificially by the government.
They rely on overpriced merchandise and service work pretty much.
I own a Harley and a handful of other bikes, as an American I hope they evolve....quickly. Other manufacturer offer like products and 100 different styles at a fraction of the price. They hold ... well cruiser, bar hopper, touring ect.. however there is an undying culture that seem to be growing internationally. Harley holds hardass icon like no other. How cool would it be to see HD make a sport bike again (buell) and get in the electronics game? Love the noise, lose the weight, get those rpms create smiles and a new generation of rider that WILL navigate to the older more Mature bike from the same manufacturer in the upper years of life. Mix it up... make a V4
A Harley sport bike would be so cool
Harley lost me as a loyal customer when the chrome bezel on the starter vibrated of, A known problem on the bike I found out after it fell off. It was not just cosmetic you needed it to turn off and on the bike without plyers. When I went to the dealer to purchase a new bezel they told my a needed to buy a $200 assembly and they no longer sold the $20 bezel.
With that news I put up my center finger and in a commanding voice in front of many customers and said F#@! Harley Davidson. I fabricated a bezel out aluminum and dremal tool. Sold the softail and bought a vintage triumph and KLR and having more motorcycle fun with more cash in my pocket.

Handles like a Rebel 500 -extremely light weight and low center of gravity
More nimble than a Rebel 1100
engine was very fun, more fun than Sportster S (try it and you'll understand)
Just take 10 minutes to get used to the throttle and you only need to stay in Sport mode
Road are OK in traffic, where Rain mode is unnecessary
Brake not impressive, needs a hard pull to stop (Rebel 1100 has better brake feels)
Suspension is comfortable. More rear suspension travel than Sportster S

Buell in the early 2000s was harley trying to move to different crowds. I meet so many people that don't want to believe that my 04 buell xb12s is a harley davidson sport bike. Yes it was designed by buell, but harley still provided the helping hand in funding and giving a engine that can be made of use for buell. If harley stayed with buell, and branched out with buell in terms of making different types of bikes. We would have gotten a sportster S 3 to 10 years ago. Harley is having a hard time of trying to widen their company now as they dropped buell that was their shield. Buell allowed harley to have a bike under them that was outside of their category, and in my opinion, they were a success.
I think the Sportster S looks pretty nice, and I'm glad they're using the engine in more than just the PanAm after throwing away the bronx.
The Nightster looks like they strapped a leaf blower to the side of it.
i never even care about what the stock exhaust on a bike looks like. because, lets be fair, who under the age of 73 keeps the stock exhaust on their bike for more than like 6 months at the most?

Most of the manufacturing cost is because the bikes are made here. The day I see someone here willing to lay off that workforce and tell those people and their families "hey at least the bikes are cheaper to buy now" is the day I'll agree. Buying domestic comes with pros and cons. But I'm willing to bet my pay check no one here is willing to do what I said.
I agree. That being said they could be a bit more competitively priced. They can’t really be the same general price point as some of those imports, but they could be a bit more approachable in price regardless. They’d probably sell more of those bikes as well. But you’re right, american made is going to be reflected in the price, no matter what.
Those people will also lose their jobs if Harely can't sell enough bikes. I personally wouldn't mind paying more to buy American made; if I could buy an American bike that wasn't resting on it's laurels so hard. For decades all they've done is rehash retro iron. Glad to see them start to try newish things more recently, but they need some real innovation to bring in new customers. Sportier models. Hit the gym Harley, you are overweight and out of shape, you can't compete like that.
America standardized the assembly line over 100 years ago making Fords affordable. Harleys only done everything wrong to drive their prices up. That's on them. I don't care who puts the thing together, if a machine can do it cheaper, let a machine do it.
And P.S. They're assembled here, the parts come from all over. alot of electronics are Chinese or Mexican, the suspension is Japanese. Engine components from austria, brakes and clutch from Italy. They're nothing special as some glorified "American" machine. They simply aren't anymore.

i love the looks of a Harley. i really do. but being poor, and bad credit, i have no desire to own a Harley. i like my Honda Rebel 500. it looks good liquid cooled, runs fast enough for a 67 year old man like me. and i don't have to do a loose part check everytime i want to ride to Daytona. buying quality over name brand works for me.
You have to admit the revival of some of the older brands Triumph,Indian, Benelli,Royal Enfield etc. Albeit Asian built, many have TC, slipper clutch, adjustable suspension and rider modes for a lot less money. Not to mention the usual Japanese and Euro competition.
Has to be pinching HD a little.
Also a companies failures are not the consumers fault .
I own 2 Harley’s and love them but I also own 4 Japanese bikes and love them as well.

Having owned and rode many different brands and styles of bikes I can say I didn’t get excited about anything Harley-Davidson until they announced the Sportster S, and as soon as I had a chance to ride one it was everything anybody could expect and more. I enjoyed it so much I bought a brand new 2022 sportster S, and I’ve been absolutely loving it. It’s comfortable,head turning,and completely stock I can keep up with almost any other bikes on the road (like my friends modified 2017 GSXR 600) in the curves and straights. People are always going to find something to complain about,but I believe Harley-Davidson is doing amazing things to prepare for the future. Now if only someone at the motor company can relay the message to make the sportster S have the same power numbers as the pan America
I like Harley heritage, but I also love the new things they are putting out. I ride a CBR 650R and love it, but right now one of my favorite bikes in terms of aesthetics is the Sportster S and I wish they sold the LiveWire in Brazil for me to get one. I really liked and would love to own the LiveWire, the Sportster S and the Pan America
I'd take a Rebel over the Nightster anyday. Cheaper, more reliable, better features, etc. Also +1 for the SkillUp reference.
I looked at the Harley website after watching this. I think all the bikes are pricey for what they are. There are some good used bikes out there if you are looking for a slow American cruiser. Nightster looks good. Agree on your pricing model.

Honestly if the Nightster's price matched the bike more it'd be perfect for me, specifically the Nightster Special. I threw a leg over one at my local dealer and fell in love. The digital dash is gorgeous, it has a ton of techy features, I love the look, and the position felt super comfortable. But 15 big ones for a bike with the plastics and build quality of a used Rebel? Pass
We need a 600-700 motorcycle that is affordable. I would buy one today if it was 7000$ or less.

I found a '23 nightster (not nightster special) on sale for $12k. I bought it, and a pillion seat for it. It's smoooooth. It corners like it's on rails, and it turns in instantly. The headlight is blinding. It doesn't sound like a "typical" harley, and it won't wake the neighbors. It feels like I'm riding a swiss watch.
I rode the Nightster when the Harley demo truck came to a local dealership last weekend. I had previously taken a Sportster S out about 2 months prior during a dealership demo. I think Spite's prediction mirrored a lot of what I experienced: a more traditionally setup Sportster with a lot of the advantages of the new architecture (a Sportster non-S?) that is better than the previous generation, but also way too expensive. It cornered better than the Sportster S which I owed to the slimmer front wheel, though obviously it wasn't as quick off the line. The rear suspension also felt stiffer than the Sportster S, but the stock mid-controls felt better to me as a shorter rider. Ultimately I thought it was a nice $10k bike whose main problem is that it costs almost $4000 more than that.
As far as Harley's future goes, I think they are heading in the right direction, but they do have to overcome the momentum of decades of a culture they admittedly encouraged. Their biggest competition is their own used market, and their pricing structure will continue to make gains slower because of it.
My personal opinion is that Harley Davidson are capable of making good bikes in any market segment they choose to , but when they make bikes that aren't catering to their typical demographic they don't do so well.
Last year at the IMS, I spoke to a Harley rep about the Pan Am before I went on a test ride. He said they were definitely planning a 1250 in a touring frame.
The music made listening to Spite suffer through the bargaining stage of Harley-grief bearable. (Chopin is pretty amazing like that.)

Let’s put it like this: when I went into a Harley dealership about a year ago looking for my first bike, if an 883 was at $7k, I would’ve rode out on it. I think the biggest thing Harley could do right now would be a 975 Pan-Am for $13k-ish. They would absolutely blow T7s out of the market. But, I don’t see that happening. They seem to be stuck overcharging us just to have that HD logo on the tank.
13 is way too little for any adventure bike of this level no matter the brand. I can see then 15 or 18, but over 18 is too much.
@@victoriazero8869 13 would put it just a little more than the T7 at 10 and the Aprillia Tuareg 660 at 12 but it’s a little more powerful than those two. Also, it would be under the Tiger 900 at 15 which would be the closest competitor. Remember, we’re not talking full size flagship, it would be more towards a middleweight.
Pan Am 975 appears to be being worked on by the leaks I really hope 10-12k starting price for the base
So I'm can't talk about the company's current products or confirm any future product, but the general chatter and thought process is that Livewire will become the cheaper foreign built company with the current Livewire stuff being built in the US till the factories in Taiwan can be made and contracts written. While Harley motorcycles proper will be the Luxury Made in America brand of the two. This has been the general hinting that Harley PR has been giving in its recent press releases. Nothing is certain yet
I think of Harley designed a more cafe/flat tracker build in the 8-10k range for entry level build with like 55-60hp it would sell a lot of bikes. Also make it under 435lbs wet weight. Take the husqurvana approach with the 401 platform
Waiting for HD to make bikes that don't placate the knuckle-draggers is like waiting for YN to buy a CBR500 and a Royal Enfield as personal bikes.

Life of Burch rode the Nightster and liked it a lot. He liked it better than the Sportster S. He said it just worked better. Like you though, he felt that the price makes it a non-competitive option unless you really need to have a Harley. Apparently, on top of the list price, and a bunch of extra fees, fairly standard in the industry, you now have to pay an extra surcharge if you want to take one home. But then I don't think I've ever seen a Harley where my first thought is "Boy, what a great deal for the money!"

I have a 2006 custom 883. I love it. I also have a 2016 Triumph America LT. I love it. The biggest difference for me is ,the Triumph revs so much higher. And the suspension is some much better. And the Triumph doesn't vibrate me to death. I would like to know . If Harley could make a 650 revolution motor. And how much HP , could it have. I'm getting older and would like to get a litter motorcycle, that got 70+ miles to the gallon. Thanks for the video

I bought this. bike on Memorial Day as an impulse buy. I basically traded even in trading my 2019 Indian Chief Darkhorse, much better interest rate and my monthly payment is a $70/month less. I looked at the Honda 1100 Rebel, but I like the styling of the Nightster better. The bike has its own personality. I use to own a Ducati 696 Monster. Once the rear suspension was set to my weight, I find this bike performs like my Ducati. The front brake is great, but the rear bike is average. I prefer the Road mode-very smooth. Many people say this bike is to be ridden at 7,000 rpm for best performance. I disagree, I tested the bike in Road mode and I went from 60 mph to 100 mph in a matter of seconds with a very smooth transition. My only complaint is the engine heat at idle-very warm. My mechanic recommended that I use Motul 7100 full synthetic oil. The bike runs better on this oil and will not break down or overheat compared to regular oil. This bike is 350 pounds lighter than my Indian Chief Darkhorse and when I rode The Tail of the Dragon it was a blast to ride. The front suspension when you hit a pot hole is groin painful. I have added the engine guard, Kuryakyn Highway Pegs, drink holder, new shift peg, passenger seat and the Nelson Rigg 1060 Tour tail bag. It now looks like a proper cruiser with the performance of a sport bike.

The changes at Harley are good, but they keep missing the boat with a low cost, low displacement introductory bike for beginners - people new to both riding and owning the brand. I would love to see a 700cc flat tracker style bike, like the Indian FTR or Ducati Scrambler. Something classic and simple but fun and easy to ride, that harks back to their racing days, and costs less than $8K USD (all in) brand knew! Gotta think like McDonald's, hook 'em when they're young with a Happy Meal . . .

The street twins were Harley's attempt at that. The basic bike was, I think well-designed, if not particularly exciting. I think they did a great job with the aesthetics, but they hobbled it with ergonomics that made it too uncomfortable for most people to want to ride. (I know some folks loved it.) It would have been easy to fix the wonky ergos, but Harley chose to let it die. My suspicion is that it died in the dealerships because the dealers didn't want to sell it. Could it be that the reason that Nightster is more expensive than the competition is because they carry a larger dealer markup. Maybe Harley needs the dealers to get excited about selling it.

Yeah, I know this is never going to happen. Harley has made it clear by promoting themselves as an exclusive "premium" brand - while still pumping the blue collar outlaw image - that they're not interested in creating an entry level bike. Their one attempt with the Street 500/750 didn't go well, which weren't bad bikes at all, but just as @Peter Wilson said, the ergonomics were terrible - especially with the feet placement/controls. However, nobody is going to learn to ride on a 800 lb., 106 HP, $30K bagger. That's what Honda is for! 😆

in Mexico the cost is the same direct from the dealer in USA so it’s not imposible, I have a 2018 iron 1200 and an old Yamaha 600 and I can’t wait to try the new motor before they broke and close all stores here:(
The ftr from Indian is awesome but a little too quirky for most (and pricey). The Bronx managed to look modern, muscular, and badass without being weird. Maybe HD is waiting for that to catch on or die to decide on the Bronx. That's still the only HD bike I was ever interested in and I doubt I'm alone in that thought.
If Yamaha could make a proper bolt with MT10/MT09 or Tenere1200 motor it would be a nice metric cruiser.
It seems the new gsxs1000 only has new headlights compared to previous model. I just got it 3 days and do love it. Is there any difference in both bikes? Have yall yet ridden the newer gsxs yet?

I'm sticking with my used Harley and will pass on the nightster. So many bikes out there. I'm also an air-cooled traditionalist. I do most of the maintenance myself.
I'm also sticking with my proven Japanese naked sportbike with rear sets (MT-09). No overpriced American sport cruisers with forward or mid controls.

I knew I saw some guy with Spite's hair peeking out from his helmet on my drive home! He was on a blue and white Pan America making a left near the McD's in Rancho Peñasquitos in north county San Diego. That must have been his loaner bike. I should have honked.

Not to mention it’s hard to find all the problems on new engines- it takes a couple years of the public ownership to find faults and upgrades.

I dig the new style at least. Still isn't a bike I'd personally consider buying, partially just due to price, but it looks good and there are plenty of people who probably will spend the money so I won't knock it.

I'm from Milwaukee and I've loved HD since I was a kid and I think the Sportster S is bad ass but like you stated, its too expensive. I'm stuck on my 08 SV650 until I can afford a Sportster S or a Panigale someday (I like V-twins :)
I just bought one on Tuesday, rode it to work Tuesday night and Wednesday, it wouldn't start at lunch time, had to Uber home and call the dealership Thursday morning. They say it was a wire not plugged in well on the motor, everything else seems okay

Looking forward to the ride test video from your guys. The new HD CEO has made some structural changes to how the MoCo operates and it's starting to show. So as long as they keep giving the Dentists cosplaying SOA their huge touring barges - I own a RK - all will be well in the fiefdom of the MoCo. HD still has to bring new riders into the brand. Those late 20's to early 30's people that can finally splurge on a new bike. I hope that the new Bronx and the Pan America do not get relegated to a corner of the sales floor like what happened to Buell. HD has to make sure that its sales force gets engaged and on board with selling bikes other than the traditional models. Curiosity: The Heritage is available 14 - yes, fourteen - colors yet we hardly see them rolling off the sales floor. What's the deal? Do they really move that many of them? Meanwhile, the Road King Standard is only available in 3.

The only thing that kind of moves me more to these, is that the Honda Rebel is pretty hard to find (at least anywhere near where I live). This is considering I just don’t buy any bike brand new.
The made in Vietnam handle bars have a recall on it now for welds breaking off. Please make it all in the USA and keep the prices high. Worst part is I just got one a few days ago & just found out.

They need to build on the sucess of the RE Himalayan and make a HD 883 Appalachian. I own a Himalayan, and the rumble makes me want a Harley. But I can lean my bike without scraping the pegs. I can also have a pilion without having to buy a seat. There is still a market for simple air and oil cooled bikes.
The "Bronx" is just reviving Buells like the X1 Lightening. If Harley can manage to sell them for under 14K... it might have a chance. Just my two cents.
For that much bread, should be dual front discs at a MINIMUM.

I'd love a Bronx but I have a feeling it wouldn't be competitively priced. I bought an 883 as a first bike a few months ago and it's fine but the ergos ended up being not what I'm looking for. If HD doesn't want to branch out and make a naked bike, I'm looking elsewhere for a second bike. They can watch Indian scoop up all of their sales with the FTR
One of the best parts about an evo Sportster is pretty much everything can be changed rather easily.... foward, mid, mid-forward, or rearsets can be easily obtained. Bars and risers too, everything from clip-ons to ape hangers to drag bars. Seats are easy to change as well.

@@Bahlzeron here is the crazy thing, while Harley is 1/3 of the American market is only represents 4% of ww bike sales. There is a much wider range of aftermarket offerings for Hondas than Harleys

Though I am glad to see them make something competitive in a broader market, would be good for the company if they pulled thier heads out of thier asses and price thier bikes more appropriately (but that would mean they make less profit per bike... and they can't have that, greed is the downfall of so many things). Torn on what I would add next to the stable...ZX6, Vaquero, Concourse or Goldwing. But first have an old KZ550 that needs.... alot of love.

Australia hasn't seen an American made HD in years, they have been coming from one of their three plants in Thailand (the ones that moved from Wisconsin, Kansas and India )and before that the HD's we got were made in India. I challenge you to find someone that manufacture a part for either the Pan America, the Sportster, or the Nightster in the USA. and I'll buy some of your Ballsack product
