    I also got the blueish c64-ocean-loader during my recent Big Smurf upgrade. Felt like waiting for and old game or demo to load, and good in a weird way. Happily it reverted back from 1986 to 2021 once it realised it was in fact an M1 Mac and not a Commodore 64. Once install completed I decided to watch some old Amiga demos. Time travel sure is weird, but then again, smurfs are blue.

    I’ve had pretty much the exact same experience and once I moved to a wired mouse everything was good again. I’ve installed 11.2 but couldn’t be arsed really to try the Apple mouse but evidently the update sorts out the issue. I’ve had loads of apple machines and apple really nailed this one this time. Beside the Bluetooth issues it’s been amazing and rock solid.

    Very cool and useful video. I have been similarly impressed with my Mac M1 mini but also had some of the same issues. My ZOOM LiveTrak L-8 is still not supported so had to change back to an older class compliant mixer. And when updating I also got the random “analog TV channel not tuned in” screen, but thankfully it just corrected itself after 5 mins. I also had a super wacky screen refresh rate issue that required me to set up the screen proprietors every time I restarted, but that was fixed in 11.1.
    All in all, it’s a grey matter gone hat was probably pushed out maybe 3 months before all the bugs were ironed out

    Had my Mac Mini M1 (base model) for ... heck, 2 months? 26 November I believe.
    It has been largely flawless, but as a Logic user - and a very light (newbie) user, I expected that.
    I purchased external drives at the same time - two 2tb SSD's - and have them in a nifty doc.
    One for backup, one for data - so, my local backup needs are covered.
    The mac itself, is tucked under my desk to attempt to keep it as pristine as possible for resale in 6 to 12 months, depending on what Apple release.
    As I'm trying to keep this as dedicated as possible to just music and graphics production, everything I've put on it, more or less, is Apple silicon compatible.
    I've had one issue with my Audient interface - alas, the excellent software controls are ... a little flakey.
    At first, I thought they hadn't loaded at all - queue much frustration and reboots and re-installs of the software.
    Turns out, they had loaded, but the icon in the tray was not visible until you hovered over it.
    I'm also not entirely convinced everything is functioning as it should - so, for safety's sake, I've uninstalled that for now, which is a shame, because it is a great little control interface.
    The sad thing is, after two months - and as is always the case - I'm now used to the incredible performance.
    No doubt, in six months I'll be cursing how slow it is.
    As for Apple keyboards and bluetooth - I've generally just shoved those in a draw and used something that actually works.
    I've got a 13 year old s530 logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo - so old, that letters are starting to wear off the keys - but it *still* wipes the floor with the pathetic excuses for keyboards that Apple release.
    Sadly, they aren't manufactured anymore.

    • @jas_bataille
      @jas_bataille 3 роки тому +6

      I don't understand... it was very well specified that :
      - Logic Pro X support both native and third-party VST plug-ins perfectly. If it supports VST, it support all VST plug-ins.
      - Studio one doesn't.
      - We can assume that Pro Tools also support VST plug-ins on the platform.
      It depends on whether or not the code for your DAW was re-written to allow running third-party plug-in on Apple Silicon. Third-party plug-ins can't be translated to Rosetta as far as I understand. Ableton Live works great, Logic Pro and Pro Tools as well. If you use any other DAW beside the top 3, there is no guarantee it will support third-party plug-ins.

    • @camm24
      @camm24 3 роки тому

      @@jas_bataille Logic only supports AU plug ins, not VST. Pro Tools also only supports AAX. the problem is many do not support M1 Macs, and you need to run the whole DAW in Rosetta.

    I got the 8GB M1 Mini as a birthday present. I've been a Windows user since pretty much the dawn of time. Started with 3.1. So finding my way around MacOS has been a head scratcher at times.
    I'm frustrated by the lack of support for older audio/MIDI gear. For example, my Tascam US-1641 audio interface and my MOTU Fastlane MIDI interface are both essentially bricks now.
    I've also been having wifi problems that I think are related to a Behringer MIDI keyboard and an older external hard-drive being unshielded maybe? All I know is when I unplugged them, wifi started working again.
    But even with all those issues (and some Bluetooth flakiness) I breath a sigh of relief when I load up Davinci Resolve and can get something done as opposed to my old Sony VAIO which chokes on Davinci from start to finish.

    • @timbmusician
      @timbmusician 3 роки тому

      @@kunal_vashishth I think it is. The way the M1 chip works makes the 8GB model feel like it's got a LOT more power. The only complaints I've seen are from people who use very large sample libraries like for orchestral and film scoring. Not saying you can't use orchestral libraries, just that the people who use the gigantic ones as their main instruments see some bottlenecking.
      But for the average home user, it's got power to spare.

    Great update! I bought a 16GB Mac Mini since I wasn't really tied down to a DAW. I had a license for Studio One 5 Artist from a purchase of a PreSonus AudioBox iTwo recording package, and only had the supplied Plug-Ins. I had gotten the interface so that I could record onto my iPad Pro using GarageBand iOS as a way to introduce myself to using a DAW since I only had worked with a Tascam Portastudio DP-01FX/CD.I was surprised to see that Studio One loaded on and was running a demo song, but have not tried recording anything of my own yet. I am trying to learn Studio One and GarageBand at the same time to see if do a jump to Logic at some point. So far I only had Bluetooth issue once with my keyboard (both keyboard and mouse are Apple) and it was before the 11.2 Big Sur update. I do keep receiving an error message that the computer had to restart if it was left unattended for a long time. I guess it has issues with going to sleep. I also downloaded DaVinci Resolve 17 Beta for video editing, but again, also learning the software now, so all actions have been basic, nothing too advanced going on in either spectrum.

    I've already installed Windows 95 in a virtual machine on my Mac. A click and a bounce in the dock and there is Brian Eno's startup sound. Ahhh...On a more serious note, I've consistently found that the built in NTFS read only support is very broken on M1 - Connect a 2TB NTFS drive, it mounts, many files and folders appear, but not all. Tried on multiple M1 machines, same issue. I found the trial version (unsure of it's limitations, it worked fine?) of the read-write iboysoft NTFS driver worked completely on M1 and I was able to see all files and folders and transfer the files to an APFS disk. Super weird behaviour. Seen it's a known issue on reddit dating back to November. Hopefully Apple gets that read only support solid in a future update. I'd rather it refuse to mount the disk with an error entirely, than mount it and only show some files and folders present.

    • @PresentDayProduction
      @PresentDayProduction  3 роки тому

      Thanks for your comment! We have seen some weird behaviour other than the read-only performance we expected. Stuff like folders not opening (or being very slow to open), or just a general lack of responsiveness. I’m looking at buying a MBP M1 so will do a video on that if it’s worth it!

    I bought the M1 MacBook Air - 8gb ram with 256gb ssd, I'm running Logic Pro x with a few plugins not a ton some native instruments and a few spitfire labs - nothing extensive - I am a novice at home recording and I'm on a pretty tight budget - So everything I have is on the cheaper side, but I do a lot of research to know I'm getting the best for my money. I have 2 issues with my MacBook Air - #1 - only 2 Thunderbolt3 ports - and #2 - Storage limitations. I don't want to use all 256gb of drive space on logic's sound library and my plug ins - so I recently purchased a 2TB external HD ( which I partitioned 500GB of to be used as a Time Machine for the M1 and the rest is open storage) - and a USB hub designed for an M1 MacBook Air specifically - which I would come to find out is bull since it has two HDMI ports yet the MacBook Air will only allow for one external display to be used. Either way when I plug in the external HD and my Usb Interface and plug in the power cable I will end up having issues where the hub will start disconnecting everything periodically. That makes it really hard to record using multiple USB devices or a midi controller - and it only really started doing this once I started using the external HD - I'm starting to think I it would be better to put all my plug ins and my library back on the internal SSD and start saving only my "projects" and "bounces" files - and maybe anything I don't throw on the cloud, in to my external HHD. I really do like the M1 it does run like a dream and its perfect for what I do especially when I'm on the go - I'm thinking about purchasing the M1 Mac mini with 512GB SSD for home use and just having my MB Air for mobil use ( which I do a lot of )

    I bought my daughter a M1 Macbook Pro to do her recording and college work on. She has Behringer audio interface which, when recording vocals in garage band, has interference which sounds like a radio ration not tuned in properly. For now, she's using the inbuilt mic which to be honest, I pretty good. Obviously not for the long term but will do some research as to what audio interface works when she upgrades to Logic Pro.

      Could it be that the sample rate of the interface doesn’t match that of GarageBand? I had the same flashing scrolling stripes while updating to 11.2. This was on my screen connected to the HDMI.
    I just let it continue without interrupting the update, after the Mini rebooted and continued updating it sorted itself out and the screen was normal again. (reminded me of Windows updating the graphics driver).
    Not only that, it also recognised the full resolution of the attached screen to HDMI, and now that screen can go up to its max resolution as well :) on the HDMI output.

    Wait... how are you running any macOS from a NTFS disk? It has never been supported natively for writing, only reading. You can use software that makes it possible for your data but I don’t see how that would work for the OS on an internal drive, unless you’re running Windows. Even an older OS X should be using HFS+.
    FYI, ExFAT will let you use an external drive with both Windows and Mac natively, btw.

If you need drives that can read/write between Mac OS and Windows, format the Drive as exFat so that both Windows and Mac OS can both read and write to that drive. The Mini has previously been the poor child of the Mac desktops, only getting Intels shitty onboard GPU. The M1 gets the same GPU as the laptops as its part of the M1 architecture, and so generally is a flyer. Bluetooth issues- drove me BONKERS with random disconnects for the keyboard and mouse. Latest BigSur updates seem to have improve this a LOT, so random disconnects since upgrading. I went ahead and purchased the last intel (2018) MacMini (w/ 64GB of RAM)- and I can hardly get 3-5 software instruments to load w/o one of the cores spiking- AND I'm also having slow metering (needles on compressors, etc.)... I've even stayed away from 3rd party plugins and have had nothing but headaches. I use UAD, Waves, FabFilter, Slate, NI & Arturia plugins... THIS IS MY QUESTION: how many software instruments are you able to use without spiking cores and meters being affected?
