The M1 Mac Mini is one of my favorite devices to come out in 2020. It’s small, it’s powerful, it has plenty of I/O ports, looks super clean and is the cheapest way to get into the macOS ecosystem. It’s a wonderful option if you’re working from home or want a compact desktop setup for school. But to truly get the most out of your #m1MacMini, you’re going to want to add some accessories.
Today we’re going to kit out the brand new M1 #MacMini with some of my favorite accessories. We already know that #apple M1 with its SoC (or system on chip design, integrates the CPU, GPU and Neural engine - we know it’s fast, we know it’s efficient - so let’s build out a complete system and I’ll also show you how you can easily save hundreds of dollars.

What's up everyone?! I hope you liked this list of M1 Mac Mini accessories. What was your favorite item? Do you have anything else that you think I should include in a part 2? Finally, which SSD and RAM configuration is right for you?

Thanks for accessories recommendations. How are the speakers on the recommended monitor? I assume they are functional with the HDMI interface??
Any less expensive 4K monitors that you have tried that are compatible?
      Thanks.

What a great video. Lots of ideas for kitting out my new M1 mini. What kind of cable are you running from the vava hub to your mini? I’m going to try the under-desk hub set up like you show. And clicking. I have an MX keyboard which I love, but I wish it would make some noise!

Depending on how you are using it, you don't need any of that stuff (except a keyboard and mouse and monitor).
I got mine to be a dedicated system for photography and Photoshop. The only thing I have besides those is a Wacom tablet and a hard drive to store my photos on (10 TB).
I use clicky, btw, a dasKeyboard I've had for years.

Another excellent video Sagi! I do like your motto as it dovetails nicely into what was drilled into my head by my engineering professors, namely if you don't have enough time to do it right the first time, how are you going to find the time to do it right the second time? What I'm really curious about is whether or not you have any experience with the BlackMagic design pocket cinema camera 4K? When I saw your external drive reviews, the OWC caught my attention, especially with its near internal drive speed. I think it would be a natural fit to use the OWC drive to directly save RAW image files to, and then just import them directly into FCPX. Or am I being a wanker here? It just seems like a natural choice, especially for doing 4K workflow. So what do you think?

  • @SebiDtv
    @SebiDtv 3 роки тому +9

The only thing that I would add to this would be the usb-c hub that is like half the height of the Mac mini but has the same footprint. It allows you to add an SSD drive to the Mac mini and also gives you access to the sad card reader and extra ports without filling your desk space up too much. I got the one from elecife but hagibis, and satechi make them as well.
Clicky or non clicky really depends on the day for me lol

Thanks for the video Sagi. As usual thorough and on point. I have the magic keyboard and magic touchpad instead of a standard mouse. BTW I got a Logitech mx keys for my kid and I think it beats out the magic keyboard. Heavier, seems more solid and the battery lasts over several months if you don’t use the backlighting. Not to mention the feeling of the keys is also great. Also you can do multiple pairing and quick switching between computers and data transfer between multiple devices, including between Mac and windows computers with the Logitech software.

I am finally leaving the PC world and giving up on my HP laptop for an Apple product, most likely the iMac mini. Until now, I had my laptop and two LG monitors. Would I be able to continue using my two LG monitors with the mini? If so, How and which port is the primary port for the first screen and which port would be for the secondary screen?

I have been looking at getting speakers for my Mac Mini M1 and the AudioEngine A2+ are very popular. Do you have these speakers connected via the USB cable instead of the 3.5mm input? I dont like the idea of connecting speakers to a headphone jack as the macOS will think they are headphones.

@@michaelstarmer3497 Dell P2720DC which has display port in/out and 4 USB ports.....it’s also usb-C or HDMI so very very versatile. Bought mine from Amazon as Dell were just hopeless at delivery! Also bought the Logitech pebble and its companion keyboard K380 which can hook up to 3 different devices at the touch of a button. My sound sticks work superbly well and are connected and sound awesome, I have AirPods but use Skullcandy Sesh bluetooth phones for music. Bought the cheapest little 1080p webcam which works great and.....just because I’m a photographer and graphic artist I use a Wacom tablet too. With 16 external drives (a lot of images and video work!) I have attached 3 powered usb hubs - 2 x 10 port hubs to the USB ports on back of MacMini and a 4port plus 1 x iPad or iPhone charge socket. It’s taken a while to get everything working as I like/want but my desk is clean and I have a tidy office again, oh I also have a great Brother A3 WiFi printer too.

As for keyboard, I use a Corsair K95 RGB Platinum coupled with a Corsair Scimitar Pro RGB mouse. I like having the macro keys on both as I use them frequently in both entertainment and productivity software. Sadly, my old Bella keyboard is no longer supported by Apple |:-( But oddly enough still works with FCPX even though it shows up as an unknown keyboard! Really like your presentation and your clear, distinct speaking style which is spot on for speed, and clarity. Seems like to use the Mac Mini M1, it pretty much needs a hub. My needs for a hub differ from yours, as I'd prefer to have on board M.2 and SSD capability to cut down on the wires, and also keep the power requirements to a minimum (we're going to be going fulltime RV'ing shortly) as I'll be needing an offgrid capability.

You presented an outstanding overview of lots of accessories for the new M-1 mac mini. Like yourself, I prefer a mechanical keyboard (grew up loving both type writers and that "click" sound) and use both the white Apple wired full size keyboard (with number pad) or the white Apple 1st generation wireless blue tooth full sized keyboard (with number pad) both from back during the 2000's. However, when it comes to a pointing device here, I depart from Apple products and prefer to use a white wireless USB toggle mouse from Targus. Being "Old School" what, I enjoy about this mouse is that it runs for about 2-years off of two AA batteries and when they start to run low on power it starts to flash a "red light" which, lets the user know that soon the batteries will need to be replaced.

Thank you for watching and for sharing your journey and insight. 2 years with no charging is really nice - not gonna lie. I charge this mouse every few 3/4 weeks I think - I just plug it in overnight and it's good to go. I always have a USB Hub on my desk regardless, so if I run out of battery, I can use it in wired mode (because I'm HORRIBLE at checking out the battery level lights, lol).

I actually scored a old Apple A1048 mechanical keyboard for about 20 dollars. I love the clicky keyboard.

my friend good evening..I have ordered the mac mini m1 16gb and mx keys and mx master 3..do you think that I will have a problem the first time I activate the mac mini? is there a case not to recognize the mx keys and the mx master 3?

I know I had to plug the keyboard in the first time. Once you're logged in, then you can connect the mouse and keyboard via Bluetooth I hope that helps.

I am looking at buying a Mac Mini to be my new desktop that I could also take along on the road in my RV. I am liking the size and performance.

I would go with an app for all kinds of clicky and also add an alarm and a scheadule that is associated to the keyboard alone.

Audioengine products are great, however I have experienced chronic drop offs with my iPhone and iPad Pro with the A5+ and B1 receiver. My MacBook Pro and Mac mini are solid however. I am peeved that Apple has made ATPX codec so difficult to enable on the MacBook Pro. I mean, why even bother having the codec if its buried and disabled by default and requires the use of the command line prompt to enable? Great video except you missed THE most important accessory of all... the monitor! I know that would have been too large a subject for this video, but you could have dropped a few recommendations like the BenQ PD3220U.

Speakers - I use an echo 4th generation with aux. Works perfect and I get to use Alexa capabilities as well when the mac is not using the echo as a speaker.

I like the look of the magic keyboard, and that it has the numpad, but clicky keys are awesome!
And with Mice, I'm all about logitech. Loved my mx1000 mouse/keyboard combo. Still have them and they work but I'm using a wired mouse and keyboard currently.
As far as speakers go, I'm a big fan of Klipsch, I still have a set of pro media 4.1s that I bought from a friend of mine in 2001 or 2002. I've had to replace electronic components inside on the amp, and repair the surround on both the subwoofers, but it was worth it! :)
