      Indeed. And it seemed more of an equal playing field. For starters, no recurring cable tv, internet or mobile phone fees -- there *weren't* any. Utility charges were regulated, reasonable controls on one's monthly apartment rental were far more widespread than today, etc., etc. Capitalism can only coexist with democracy for so long. Love the Stones, Mick still makes it work, but they were among the early envelope-stretchers of the hypermonetization of live music ticket prices. (Though TicketMaster has firmly established itself as the Greediest Corporate Sh*tBucket in the Entertainment Universe.)

    And this is why we still love the Stones. They took their music seriously but didn't take themselves seriously.

    I visited this exhibit in Mayfair, London back in 2016. It was more than just the re-creation of their living arrangements. There was the very last part of it where there was something of a 3-D concert and I felt as if I was in the front row. It was absolutely AMAZING.

    • @jeffoliver7491

      I visited aswell, it was in Chelsea not in Mayfair. I really enjoyed it. Some of their instruments were grandly displayed, some others were in a room and weren't displayed but were just lying there in rows. The black Gibson guitar Keith always uses was lying there with other guitars. I got to touch it - whenever I see footage of Keith playing that guitar at a concert I think "I touched that!"

    I remember this from the London Exhibitionism in September 2016, it was the first thing you saw on entering the display area. Fantastic recreation of Edith Grove and it really showed how they started off,. Also sharing with Brian Jones who took a call one day from a booking agent. When asked what was the name of the band he panicked since they did not have one, saw a Muddy Waters album on the floor amongst lots of others and his eyes alighted on 'Rolling Stone' a blues track that he instantly blurted out as the band's name over the phone.The rest is, of course, history.... I spent 4 hours at Exhibitionism and would have happily gone round again if they had allowed it. Absolutely fascinating and I am glad that Mick and Keith got to see it, this piece is a gem and thanks so much for uploading it, DJ Jerry.

      Truly? Is that how they got the name? I knew "Rolling Stone" was/is a famous old blues song and all the band especially Keith love the blues, but i'd always imagined them sitting around smoking, coming up with names till again i imagined Keith suggested "Rolling Stones" and they all unanimously agreed. If this is really what happened i like it far more, than my idea because it's funny and very rock n roll. Thanks!

      Great story! Reminds me of when Orson Welles was producing a play and his financier backed out at the last minute. Desperate for funds to pay the actors, crew and for sets, from his hotel he phoned Harry Cohn at Columbia Pictures in Hollywood (other side of the continent), explained the situation and said, 'Harry I'm desperate, I need you to wire money.' Cohn asked what was in it for Columbia. Panic stricken, Orson looked down at the side table next to him in the hotel lobby. Next to the phone on the table was a 'dime novel' entitled Lady from Shanghai. Orson said, 'Look, Harry, I've written a tremendous script, guaranteed to be a box office hit. I've been planning to shop it around all the major studios, but for you Harry, if you'll wire me the money I need, Lady from Shanghai will be a Columbia picture, you have my word on it.' Cohn agreed, wired the money, and Orson took the dime novel up to his room and having not read a word of it before, began banging out the script on his portable typewriter. True story.

    As well I mean you got to think about that was over 60 years I wouldn't even born yet and they like I said they come a long way and and they still rocking and rolling I would never thought they would still be Rock and rolling in the '70s man but let's just tell you what type of band they are and if it wasn't for unfortunate drama person still original and and Brian back in 69 you still would have the original band so you know that's a blessing how many bands you know are still together over 60 years you know what I'm saying I love what they do I hope they can keep rocking on and angry turned 80 I don't make it 78 years old now so I mean I love them though I love their music keep rocking rolling Stones aging nothing but a number ❤️

    One thing is certain, for the trio to be able to rent a small flat in Edith Grove, Chelsea, London in 1962 is a far cry from 2022, 2012, 2002, 1992 or 1982 - when rents for such a desirable & convenient area would be prohibitive. Shows how London has changed in 60 years. As with other areas such as Notting Hill that were once more squalid. They also lived there during one of the coldest UK winters of the 20th C. Plus, feeding a 3 bar electric heater a financial challenge.

    I truly believe that is why real bands become egendary. Anyone that lives this way truly believes in his talent it's just logic. No one would live that way unless they really believed it was a temporary situation. Also, I think the surroundings probably inspire alot of lyrics and I bet it motivates you to write music to get a contract alot faster than it would if you had it easy already. I was just reading about the Stones today. I think they have a 14 leg tour. Mick and Keith (Kief) are both 78 and Ron Wood is 75 if I remember correctly. Keith quit smoking 2 years ago it said, I couldn't believe it. I mean at 78 you might as well keep going, I doubt after smoking what, like 10 packs a day for 60 years quitting at 78 is going to make a difference, lol. No seriously that's smart of him. Good for him. Anyway still listening to them in 2022.

    Still thriving off of the baby that Brian birthed. Even down to Brian’s old apartment that he shared with Keith. Mick would be there as well, but not full time as he was a student at the London School of Economics. Mick was prim and proper even then, so this rock n roll dirty boys den is all Brian and Keith. Just like the bands duel guitar sound is all Brian and Keith.
    Brian haters will come at me, but everything I said is a fact. Cheers

      i think its bit true. but brian never wud have figured out how to lead the stones to the massive mainstream success . i dont think he wud have given a shit rly lol. keith just went along for the big multi million dollar ride that mick brought him on . had brian stayed leader of band, they wud have prolly been famous in 60s but never remained relevant beyond that decade.

    • @deeg8849
      @deeg8849 2 роки тому +1

      @@lightning583 No doubt. Outside of the early days, Brian wasn’t capable of leading the Stones to their ultimate heights. Mick’s really the driver in that regard. Keith’s critical as a song writer but his other contribution is the one he picked up from Brian and that’s the pure rock n roller. Tough to have 3 alphas in any group. When it happens, the weakest always fall. I just don’t like how they have down played his vital contribution. Even if he was a jerk, they were young men, working their asses off to grow something and they all took hits to their life, but Brian paid the ultimate price at such a young age. I’m not saying celebrate him constantly, but talk about him with a bit more respect then they do. Cheers

      @@deeg8849 I have also always found it odd and even creepy how the two of them discuss Brian. Especiallly in the book of his life Keith is really extr rude about Brian. I mostly liked the book but didn’t at all like that part. In a way I sometimes think the stones got ruined by their success at some point in late 80s early 90s. It got too big and became too much a machine. But the original story is still very good

      I don't hate Brian, but Brian lovers hate reality. He just wasn't in the same league as Mick and Keith. And it did him in.

    • @deeg8849
      @deeg8849 2 роки тому +2

      @@scottythetrex5197 wow. If same league is song writing and surviving, maybe you are right. But you are discounting greatly Brian’s musical chops and the style and swagger “he” brought to the band. (ua-cam.com/video/HPc_nio0YPY/v-deo.html). Plus, on the song writing side, maybe he didn’t write lyrics, but nobody can deny that Brian composed music whether in whole or in parts. There are countless tunes where Brian’s additions either elevated or completely changed the musical direction of the song. Plus he did score an entire movie and others talk about him writing as well (gene Clark on Brian for example
      ua-cam.com/video/F0IwK3EM9_A/v-deo.html
      Brian was no saint but Brian was a true artist who truly elevated the Stones and gave them an incredible dimension. I love the Stones, they are my band and I’ve studied them deeply. Mick and Keith are incredible no doubt, but without Brian and later without Mick Taylor, they really are limited in the type of music they produce. Brian was an artist, he wasn’t a businessman thinking about profits, legacy and the like. Not fighting for his band or co-credit on songs when he clearly elevated the song has cost him his legacy because Mick and Keith use that as a narrative to define Brian and Brian can’t defend himself. Why do Inthink this is true? 1- clearly Brian had talent and clearly that talent elevated or changed songs. Brian wasn’t told with each song by mick and Keith “hey Brian, can you pick up that dulcimer or sitar and play a riff like this”. And have this process happen on dozens and dozens of songs is as silly as it sounds. 2) others have said he wrote like Marriane, Bill and others close to the band. 3) just look at what mick and Keith did to Mick Taylor. Keith played no role on some songs like Moonlight Mile. The two Mick’s came up with everything and Jagger promised Taylor co credit. When it was released there was no songwriting credit. This happened repeatedly and eventually Taylor saw his only option was to walk.
      Mick and Keith have also done this to others. Leverage their talents and then exclude them from even receiving credit that they contributed. Look at Ry Cooder, Gram and Bobby Whitlock of Derek and the Dominos to name a few ua-cam.com/video/zfP_P_DfOLU/v-deo.html
      Again, I love the Stones but they do have a shady cut throat streak and you have to take what mick and Keith say with suspicion. Keith especially can be full of it. Always going in that Ian Stewart started the Stones to diminish Brian when Ian is repeatedly saying it was Brian’s band. ua-cam.com/video/cNHg_rJrD8g/v-deo.html
      You may think I’m crazy to ramble like this, but truth matters and mick and Keith (as talented as they are) really have showed a character flaw not being truthful. Regardless if Brian was a creep, they have told lies but for what purpose other then diminishing his legacy ti prop up their own. That’s not right. This wasn’t immediate either. It really started happening in the late 70s and early 80s when the money really started coming in and new formats like mtv and cd’s came out bringing in a new generation of music fans. As the lone surviving great 60s band (Beatles were done, Hendrix died, Zep retired, etc) they were getting asked all kinds of legacy questions and the Brian narrative started. But right after he died, they spoke almost lovingly. Just look at the 71 RS interview Keith gave. www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/keith-richard-the-rolling-stone-interview-238909/
      Try not to fall for the mick and Keith narrative just because they survived. I love em both but they can be rights shytes as well
