  • My most popular question is "What is the Difference Between Humminbird HELIX & SOLIX?" Well after months of working and learning the differences I have take on the task to present what I have found to be the differences between the two systems. Both are Amazing Systems and I personally use both because of the Features Both Offer. But to help others learn the differences and see the differences I have taken on the task to show what the differences are to help other make the best educated decision for their investment in New Humminbird Sonar System. Part One we discuss the hardware differences between the HELIX & SOLIX Series.

    So far I like the less cable system (quick connect) method. Nice video

    Very well done. Thanks

    3:56 You're mostly correct about the single connection connecting everything. The exception is the Helix 7 G2N and possibly other Helix 7 and 5 models. Helix 9 and above whether it's the original or later generations all have that thing where you can turn multiple plug ins into one plug in.

    I appreciate your efforts to show some of the differences. I asked HB both online and by calling direct - no clue WHO they have answering phones, but the woman I spoke with TWICE just kept sending me to their web site - it kinda pissed me off! I'm ready to do a total upgrade with cash in hand, and she couldn't explain what was needed and WHY!
    If nothing else, I owe you a cold beer - thanks!

      Sorry for your experience but I'm working on a series to help learn all the differences. The more I do the more I find but give me some time to process all the video I have been collecting. It's a fun project for sure of two amazing products.

      No way should you apologize! I'm a fisherman who seeks out knowledge and knows the BEST people to learn from are those who walked those miles or fought those battles! As to your editing, I fully understand that a multi-segmented video can take days to edit properly - it's those long boring non-stops that are quick! Those you only get stuck watching once or twice before an upload! LOL Anyways - you have my patience and sincere thanks for that which was offered thus far, and I look forward to my next "educational" segment on your channel.

    I have a Solix 12 and a Helix 10 on my Bass Cat. The most disappointing thing for me is the lack communication between the units. Basically, all you can do is share waypoints. I'd like to be able to do more between the units. Both units are amazing though. When using Smart Strike, the Solix is much more capable and offers a lot of more options. My favorite thing about the Solix is being to instantly adjust the sensitivity using the rotating knob versus having to hit several buttons on the Helix.

      Due to the different operating system Waypoint Sharing is all that is capable and it took awhile for that feature to be able to work between the different systems. Sonar Technology sharing needs to be with units in the same series.

    So to add a heading sensor to a bow mounted Helix 10 gen 2 Di all gps info would now be recieved from the external puck? And it's possible to find a suitable location on the bow?

    Thanks for a great video. Now I saw how you connected all the cables to the ports on the Solix but what port do you use if you wanted to connect a radar antenna to the unit. And on another subject. I watch a lot of fishing series videos and notice many fisherman have 2 to 3 sonars mounted on the console and or bow. What is the need for more than 1 unit in both places? Can't just 1 unit at the bow and 1 on the console be sufficient?

      @DougVahrenberg  6 років тому +1

      I don't use a radar so not much help there. Reason for multiple units is to run different data on different units without having to switch back and forth

    Since your the man when it comes to humminbird and minnkota 😊Maybe you can tell me what the difference is between helix 9 down and side image from G1 to G2 is it that big of a difference? Can I use smart strike chip,auto chart livewith zero line card and auto pilot link with G1please and thank you

      I don't remember all the differences from G1 to G2 but if you give Humminbird a call they can tell you for sure 800-633-1468. I'd have to go rewatch my videos to remember. Old age starting to get to my memory or all the new products...

    Do I need a special cable to connect my dash solix to my bow Helix for Ethernet? Nobody seems to want to answer this, please and thanks

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  5 років тому

      All HELIX Models require Dongle to connect ethernet to the unit. SOLIX do not need dongles

    Is the Solix and Helix share software with its base model of the same series like Onix does? So if I bought the Solix or Helix Chirp Mega SI GPS then Ethernet it to a basic Solix or Helix. Can I hook a Mega transducer to the basic Solix or Helix do I get all the features that the high end Solix or Helix has on the basic model? Like the Onix does.

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  6 років тому

      HELIX and SOLIX/ONIX are different software operating systems only SOLIX & ONIX can share technology. Yo ucan share waypoints between SOLIX & HELIX

      @robertl.mortoniii5578 6 років тому +1

      Doug Vahrenberg but is the solix like Onix in the way that I had? A Onix SI on the console and a basic 2D Onix on the bow. But with them network together the 2D Onix now becomes a SI by using the software from the console Onix.

      If within the same series of unit it can share sonar technology from one unit to the other.

    What are the differences in the CPU? Who makes them, what speed are they, how much memory do they have? CPU = central (main) processing unit. What chip sets are in these units and what are their characteristics?

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  6 років тому

      That information is not released from sonar manufacturers. Trade secrets of the components they use.
