    Hi Doug, just after a bit of general advise. I'm looking at either a 3yr old Onix 10 SI second hand or a Helix 9 G2 SI new. The Onix is a bit cheaper and includes maps, would you say it's a bit dated now without CHIRP/mega or still a quality unit. This would be the only unit on my boat, fishing offshore up to 100m. Cheers Shayne

    Awesome videos! I bought the Solex 12, g2n 7" and Minn Kota Ultrex because u sold me on the "Wow, Mega Awesome Imaging " ☺! Plus the price point and quality helped. Quick question, how do I set a way point at the rear of the boat then pull up to it and fish it from the front of the boat. LIKE a brush pile vertical jigging for crappie? Thanks sir!

      Network the units and share GPS waypoints then use the ULTREX to navigate to waypoint and set navigation to spot lock when you arrive would be the easiest way.

      Doug Vahrenberg I watched u network units and I have done the same. I just wasn't sure if I marked from the rear when coming back to the spot on the front I could spot lock on top of it. Thanks and I'll give it a go!!!

    Curious if you felt there was any difference in the screen clarity and details of the images on side imaging or chirp DI between the units? Is there any lag drawing your position on the map when driving 50mph? Thanks any reply would be great. Awesome vid

      Since that is more an opinion I will not be covering that discussion in this video series but the details and the amount of colors the SOLIX can use make the images more crisp and clear for me to see. Absolutely amazing but the HELIX is very close 2nd place in my opinion but the SOLIX does have an advantage but that is my opinion and I can cannot prove factually

    Doug looks pretty close just the operating system. Good video

      Operating System, Touch Screen, Map Sharing are the big differences. Both are great units just trying to help to show all the differences.

    I look forward to upgrading to the Solix 15 soon. One disadvantage I feel to using the Solix over my helix is that the Solix seems to limit your customization of screen layout. For example: the helix always you to do a split screen layout and change from a 50/50 split to whatever you want; such as 80 percent 2D and 20 percent mapping in the corner. On the Solix it has to be 50/50 split with zero customization on how they are split up. Is this correct??

      Yes the SOLIX Screens are fixed but you have the ability to use different combo screens and quickly with two finger tap and hold can go to full screen or back. Love that feature of the SOLIX.

    Thanks Doug, every video adds to my meager education. Wondering how well these Solix would be for Salt Water as well. I fish Coast to Coast and both Oceans plus the Gulf, so my electronics get serious exposure to not only many temperature zones, but a multitude of environments.

      SOLIX is designed for saltwater applications and know many that are using in Saltwater.

    Doug, First I watch all you videos and they are fantastic and helpful. My BIG question is I have a Humminbird 1199ci-HD that has only been used on my boat maybe 8 times last season is it worth in your opinion to buy a new Helix and sell my 1199 . Is it worth the expense for a casual fishing guy. Next year I'm retired and plan on doing a lot of perch and walleye fishing on lake Erie and bass on large lakes. Thanks

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  6 років тому

      There has been numerous upgrades and changes since the 1199. 1199 was a great unit but the enhancements sure make it easier to use and more features.

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  6 років тому

      HELIX G2N has CHIRP 2D, CHIRP DI, CHIRP SI and now MEGA Imaging, Better display, Brighter Backlight, Better shape for viewing SI data, Humminbird Base Map, AutoChart LIVE, and sure I'm missing a lot more. But these are all changes besides faster processors too.

      You have both the 1199 and a helix and its not worth changing from my 1199. Thanks, Tom

    How many transducer do u use at the transom for the three units there

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  5 років тому

      3 Transducer and 2 shoot through the hull. I use different frequencies and different technologies. Like Mapping on One unit and others for different sonar data.

    Doug, if you network a helix and solix together can they share screen views like the sonar, down and side image? A technician at hummingbird told me they would only share waypoints and nothing else.

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  5 років тому

      He is correct. HELIX to SOLIX is only GPS Data

    My helix won't run high speed graphing what should I do a

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  6 років тому +1

      Adjust the transducer so it works at high speed. Is this shootthru or externally mounted? Haven't seen a boat faster than the speed of sound.

    I really hope you have a non wide angle lens now. The lens you use for most of your videos makes them hard to enjoy.
