Man I love these 'Thematic Lists' videos. A big part of my hobby is theorycrafting lists (doesn't matter if I own the army), its gives me alot more enjoyment than putting the little bastards together and even painting them often.
This video just totally reinvigorated my Alpha Legion love. I’ve got a whole HH army built that never got round to being painted. Of course, use them as CSM!
The Tempestus Command Squad idea is a really good one, love it. Not a huge fan of the assault intercessor chosen, tho that's probably because at one point I had 25 of the buggers in my space marine army and they do not feel special to me.
I just bought my first box of legionaries today! This video helps me so much deciding on what the next box will be. I love the AL but not a big fan of demons and the like so this set up is fantastic!
That's awesome! 0_0 As a Sisters of Battle player, I'm seriously tempted to get some Alpha Legion allies (-is that right? 0_o) and build towards this list. The only thing I'd add is a 'Hobby time' suggestion of using Cordor gangers from Necromunda as the cultists instead of the normal chaos cultists as I think they are closer to the Alpha Legion aesthetic, especially if they where painted in Alpha legion colours. Again this would go well with using loyalist models in place of chaos ones as has been suggested for the rest of the list. I think using Tempestus Scions as a Alpha legion Dark Commune is brilliant!
Since this is a place where people are looking to run an alpha legion force with the new detachment, I was wondering if everyone was running more infantry focused versions like this Chaos Lord (90pts): Warlord, Daemon hammer, Plasma pistol Chaos Lord (90pts): Daemon hammer, Plasma pistol 5x Dark Commune (65pts) Master of Executions (90pts): Axe of dismemberment, Bolt pistol, Cursed Fang Master of Executions (85pts): Axe of dismemberment, Bolt pistol, Soul Link Master of Executions (80pts): Axe of dismemberment, Bolt pistol Sorcerer in Terminator Armour (105pts): Chaos Familiar, Force weapon, Infernal Gaze, Shroud of Obfuscation, Combi-weapon 20x Cultist Mob (100pts) 20x Cultist Mob (100pts) 10x Cultist Mob (50pts) 5x Legionaries (80pts) 5x Legionaries (80pts) 5x Legionaries (80pts) 5x Legionaries (80pts) 5x Legionaries (80pts) 5x Legionaries (80pts) 5x Havocs (120pts) 5x Havocs (120pts) 10x Warp Talons (220pts) Helbrute (130pts): Close combat weapon, Helbrute fist with heavy flamer, Heavy flamer, Helbrute fist, Helbrute plasma cannon Chaos Rhino (75pts): Armoured tracks, Combi-bolter, Havoc launcher, Combi-bolter
I just have 1 question about sicaran venator. since its in legends are people going to be okay with playing against me if I run it or not. I dont play irl since its not popular in my country but iam planning on playing on tts.
🤣🤣 So true! I find it absurd primaris marines cannot fit into Rhinos but 10 bloated plague marines or 10 muscle bound berzerkers can go into them no problem. 🙄
@@WhatThe40k I know man but I think it’s a balance think. Think about it. The Rino is ‘The’ cheep disposable space marine transport. It can hold up to 12 models. Un like the Impulser with h can hold 6 and hade a abilities to make up for the lack of space. A rino has nothing to balance around. It is just a box with 12 slots. Everyone talks about how blade gaurd are held back by the fact that you can’t take a full squad with a character in the impulsor. With a rino you can get full blade gaurd with charecter/s and then som.
Good question. Likely AoS kits will yield something. It will be a matter of seeing which units scale to the DP size, as it may be the case that most of AoS' dragons are considerably larger. I wonder if a any of the Idoneth characters which are mounted on sea beasts could work. Though it would give that DP an aquatic bend... Though maybe that 's remedied with a bit of conversion/kitbash.
@@WhatThe40k I looked at the storm cast dragons and I like them, I’m also looking for 3rd party dragon themed shoulder pads, helmet, and backpack for my Dragon Lords homebrew chapter master
This is really nice and has helped me pull the trigger on an alpha legion army. However, i think csm legionaries dont fit my idea of alpha legion. How does the mark VI marines hold up in this situation instead of csm Legionaries?
Glad you found it useful. If you prefer your Alpha Legion to be less chaos tainted, I think using Horus Heresy Mk VI is a good route to go! Personally I like the proportions of those marines better than the 40ks Space Marines. I would suggest looking at third party/3D printed parts to help add more unique Alpha Legion Flavor to the more bland Mark VI armor. Replacing majority of the beakie helmets with Alpha Legion style helmets or helmets of various armor marks will go a long way to help characterize your legionaries.
I good idea for kit-bashing for Alpha Legion Plague Marines is to kit-bash them with legionaries so they look like an Alpha Legion Destroyer squad…you like?
One thing that messes with making csm lists is the change and reduction in wargear options from 8th. But youve done well, making lists feel like the legion is a pain. Plus HH kits are a win!
It's a lame answer, but it will depend on the invidiuals you are playing with. In some cases players may prefer just using legends units over counting legends units as standard ones. And in some cases the inverse will be true.
Why are all the marines in the list so melee focussed, don't get me wrong, they have melee but feel like your really missing snipers, maybe chaos doesn't have good sniper options thou.
You're exactly right! Unfortunately GW often drops the ball with the rules, for whatever reason for them Chaos Space Marines = melee focused. The Legionaires datasheet is demonstrative of this. Where their ability is melee only making them equivalent to assault marines. While offering no rules support for squads which want to orient for ranged combat. IMO the Legionaires datasheet should have either had its ability work for either type of combat, or just have a 2nd datasheet option for 'ranged' Legionaries.
Hobby Time: don’t be lazy and proxy Primaris like a boor. Get some Mk4 bodies and some alpha legion bits and boom, chosen. Alternatively, the AL HH kill team upgrade. Can even covert quasi corrupted legionaries with Mk4 bodies and 40k CSM bits, since 60% of AL artwork for 40k is hardly spike covered marines. Get a heresy assault squad, boom, raptors. Full squad of 10 in a box. Instant non-lazy hobby time, and probably saving money if you don’t go with the HH alpha legion kill team upgrade. Net yourself 20 bodies for marginally more money than a single box of 10 or 5 CSM regardless of being legionaries or raptors. And no Primaris! Keep that shit out of CSM
I am proud to know that there is another fellow brother In this world who isn’t putting alpha Legion list together with the biggest douche ever Abaddon..
Not big fan of cultist when we have more professional the traitor guardsmen and traitor commisar while they don't capping the objective but their ability to deny battleshock at cost of a model and has more weapons profile to support the Legionaries
It's not. It's a horus heresy unit; lore-wise, they do still exist in the setting but are exceedingly rare, with most chapters being fortunate to have even 1 amongst their armories. Game-wise, it does have rules, but they're under the "Horus Heresy" section and are effectively treated like legends units, as in they aren't updated or allowed in official competitive play.
"Hydras are proud creatures. They prefer to hunt alone." -Alpha Legion Chaos Lord, probably.
How did I never make the connection between Alpha Legion and Ocelot?
the mgs music in the background for an Alpha Legion video is perfect
Any list with HH units is a good list. Really wish there was a unit with snipers for Alpha Legion...
I was hoping mentioning them in the Harrowmaster book was a suggestion that they were coming to 40k

ALPHA LEGION SUPREMACY WE IN YO VOX WE IN YO CHAPTER
If there were a single Legion that should be allowed to take Horus Heresy units, it would be the Alpha Legion.
Dudes will be afraid to moan and I’m in her ear whispering “hobby time”
Thank for the small hobby time ideas
While the Word Bearers got the short stick this edition, the Alpha Legion seems to have received very good and lore inspired rules.

I want to see this in a battle report.
Hydra Dominatus! My second favorite Traitor legion with the first being the Iron Warrior. After all, We are all Alpharius.
