I have a few newer models of the R36S, and I can confirm the buttons aren't stiff anymore. The membranes have been swapped. The shoulder buttons are the same though.

Maybe try asking on the R36s subreddit, there are many hobbyists there who would be more knowledgeable about this than I am

Well it depends on the price of other handhelds in your country. For me in America, for around $59 I could get a handheld like the RG35XX Plus or the RG35XX H, which are both more powerful than the R36S. But those might be a lot more expensive where you live, so it really depends on the prices of everything else
The R36S also has a new clone so when people start to get those we'd know if they really are better than the old ones. First one I saw of this clone uses the original screen, better buttons and better build quality so it's really interesting.

There definitely are some scammers on Aliexpress, and usually when I'm in doubt I'll pay a few more dollars just to make sure it's a legit seller, since I've heard Aliexpress can be hard to deal with if you were scammed

I assume it must be profitable if someone doesn't ask for a refund, but it doesn't make much sense to be since ali holds your payment in escrow until you say you've received the order and don't submit for a refund.

Honestly, I regret this purchase. Yeah it was cheap but the hardware changes that have made me crazy trying to update the firmware is just way more problems than it's worth. No Wifi, can't get any WiFi dongle working on my out of date firmware. Can't get newer firmware to boot because of the hardware changes. Not worth the hassle to save a few dollars.....

As for WiFi. The original systems did not have this feature either. Just side load your content and enjoy the nostalgia.
