    Hello Harvey and thank you for the tutorial. This was a 2 in 1. You also teach me how to replace the belt 🙂. I had a Seat that drove for 21 years without alternator problems. Now the skoda has also 21 years and the original alternator still. My wife's car has 14 years and original alternator. What causes alternator failures?

      @HatBoyHarvey  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi Rui, you've been lucky as alternator all ware out over time and also have sudden electrical failures. The brushes and slip rings are common war items, but also the stator and bearings. Regulators brushes ware out, overheating due to supplying high current usage hastens failure. Diodes within the rectifier can overheat and failures due to age, temp/pressure differences occur. Take care :-)

      @@HatBoyHarvey Rectifier/diode failures can occur with a bad chassis ground, or an overvoltage/overcurrent when you try to jump start the car from a flat battery.

    Have you already replaced the steering rods in this Fabia?

      Not the whole rod yet, but I am just doing a tie rod end ;-)

    Hello 😊
    Nice video. Thx!
    1. I disassembled the generator. The bearings in it were very worn out, they were dry.
    2. Your car has low antifreeze levels. 😢

      @@TAIFUNTeam I intend to see what if anything I can do with the ole alternator as I did renovate it a number of years ago with new slip rings, stator, bearing etc, but this new reclaimed one works well for such little money I'm happy for now. Yes I'm aware the coolant it low and maybe leaking somewhere, but haven't found a leak anywhere yet, thanks :-)

      @@HatBoyHarvey I had a very slow, small leak from the lower rad pipe connection on the passenger side. Because it was so slow, and it dripped into the lower under-body shield, it accumulated small amounts in a puddle in the shield that didn't drain away. Drive the car and it all blew out of the shield. Turned out just to be a crusty mess around the pipe swage on the radiator pipe: clean it, and the inside of the hose, re-fit and the problem went away.

    Great Harvey! I have this issue. I have fitted a new battery and previously a new alternator and my battery still isnt charging. I am now going to look into that voltage regulator! Thanks very much!

      I've left the fabia standing now for over a year so I guess the recent issues are more than enough reason to keep using your fabia, otherwise sht happens ;-/

    Hi, I like your videos because they are easy to follow and I can imagine myself there. You mentioned there is no battery warning lamp with the ignition switched on. An illuminated lamp shows that current is flowing through the lamp and field winding to magnetize the rotor. Without a magnetized rotor the altenator will not produce elecricity. Therefore I suspect your altenator problem lies there.

    • @HatBoyHarvey

      Thanks, your right about the light, so will investigate that further. The rectifier had failed. Now it's charging, but the bat light doesn't seem to come on so that would indicate a wire break or the instrument led, but it's charging, so Q why? I'll test the connector. Thanks, stay tuned :-)

      @@HatBoyHarvey I've heard that the lamp could be paralled with a low value resistor as a safety measure to keep the current flowing if the lamp should blow, but that was on a system with actual lamps not LED's

    • @paullandells4107
      @paullandells4107 2 місяці тому

      As a further note a LED would not pass sufficient current for the field winding so is probably just used as an indicator with a paralled resistor (or some other control path) providing the necessary current...I think

    • @HatBoyHarvey
