I'm so glad Spiritbox got the nomination - there's a lot of innovation happening in the metalcore sphere that I'm hoping they take it.
I was really hoping for a BMTH nod (AmEN! is one of their best songs in the last decade), or especially Sleep Token (if Ghost counts as metal, so does Sleep Token) - I've been following them since 2018-19 and they blew up and deserve some recognition for their last record/at least The Summoning.
Metalcore's in this weird state with like the same fanbase demographics I saw Panic! or Fall Out Boy have a decade ago so I wonder if we're gonna see a bit more prevalence come 2025-2028.
As always Metallica's probably taking it for some reason, maybe Ghost but that would be sad.
Id argue that metalcore has hit a wall creatively in some ways but whats really cool is there is a massive underground scene right now tied to the hardcore scene bringing back the “classic” early metalcore sound of the 90s/early 2000s and it kicks ass!!!! So much talent. Its almost like if a bunch of bands are saying fuck it back to the beginning and see what happens if we go this way instead of that way. Bands worth checking out: xNomadx (just dropped a phenomenal EP). A Mourning Star, Serration, Balmora and Adrienne!! Theirs also a cool underground new metal scene too doing it better! Best band: Flash Back

Also important to note A mourning Star and Serration are from Vancouver Canada as well!!! The Canadian scene is way better and bigger than what people think. Mile End, Dear-GOD, Spite House, Gavel, Bad Bet, Prowl, Klokwise, Deadbolt, Cloned Apparition, Rust, Cohezion, Cross Check, Friction… I could go on and on
The cool stuff is happening in Canada and more people need to pay attention
I actually like Ghost, but I want someone else to win this this time. Also a cover winning isn’t really appropriate imo
At this point, the only people who care about the Grammys are the record labels paying for some of these songs to get nominated. If I was an artist and saw the lists for the last 5+ years, I wouldn’t care about getting a nomination
Us music fans need to make the Grammys unprofitable in some way, maybe changes will come that way.

Pop Dance Recording is a new category for this year. I'm hoping for either Miracle or Rush to win. Troye's first nomination and Ellie's second!

I also didn't love This is Why as much as I loved After Laughter and Self-titled, but I'm glad Paramore got nominations. Hope they win.
As much as I don't care about the Grammy's, Jaded deserves the win for best metal performance. Probably one of my new favorites from Spiritbox. But yeah, the Grammy's just reek of laziness.
Side note: I didn't even hate that last Disturbed album, but nominating Bad Man is just a big ol' "Whhhhhyyyyyy???"
Im specifically shocked/slightly disappointed that Fall Out Boy, out of seven submissions, didnt get a nomination. I think with Love From The Other Side specifically was a shame to not be recognized. However I do partly put the culpability for that on their label, as FBR, in my view, fumbled the bag HARD by not putting Love From The Other Side up for best music video, they really could of had a chance for the win in that category with that video. I think the nominations were okay because this was a strong year for rock. But overall, im think the Academy is still stuck in their rut.
It’s the Grammys so of course the only rock band they’ve ever heard of is Foo Fighters.
Taylors midnights was aight but i hate that she stay winning over far more deserved artist
Jelly Roll for Best New Artist is kinda just… what? The guy’s been around for over a decade, mostly as a hip-hop name, and only recently switched to country. Like when you have a song as the end credits song for the Ratchet And Clank movie back in 2016… you’re not a “new artist”.
I’d have nominated Chappell Roan, since she’s a fun and exciting name in the pop scene. Plus, she’s actually a NEW Artist! Maybe she missed the cutoff for the nomination or something.
Taylor has never won Record or Song of the Year
I’m patiently awaiting all the regional and less popular music awards like The Junos, the Polaris Prize, the j awards, etc.
Fall Out Boy not having at least ONE nomination is actually insane.
MCR have been robbed! I will never forgive the Grammys for that.
A&W really could win SOTY its very well written and the sound of it its amazing!!
For as boring the nominations was, as an EDM fan, them categories was pretty good, including Fred again.. being nominated as Best New Artist surprised me

I like the rock category for the most part. I'm actually kinda satisfied.
I do love Rescue by the Foo's, not the best on the album but still a solid track (The Teacher would've been too easy of a win ig).
Emotion Sickness slaps.
Not Strong Enough is one of my fav songs of the year so yes, please! They're giving them so many nominations and what's weird about it is that I'm more scared of them not getting any wins than them sweeping the awards (I know what they did to Phoebe in 2021, I didn't forget!).
Then, seeing Olivia on that category doesn't seem right. Also why that pick? I'd preffer A-AB maybe get it...? I whole-heartedly love GUTS and that song, why am I complainning? Also, saying this, I'm low-key scared that now that she outdid herself she's not gonna get anything, despite all the nominations (just like Billie in 2022, I also didn't forget!).
I love seeing Paramore also get nominated for album of the year. Thankfully we have boygenius to back up the other categories cause as a full album I'd rather see it go to the Foo's, since as much as I love This Is Why, But Here We Are... is better as a whole album experience (and so powefull, too, this time they actually deserve it!). But for the song This Is Why in the alternative category should easily take it for me.
I like seeing Cool About It, too, it's also one of my favs on The Record.
Haven't heard the Lana album, not that into her, and I'm missing out on the Alvvays project but I'll get there eventually.
Also will have to go back to Body Paint and maybe listen to that other Monkeys track. Didn't give the album a listen when it came out unfortunately.
Not mad seeing Taylor with her nominations (aside from that Karma pick, which, yes, it's top 3 on the album and was ruined), but despite liking Anti-Hero and Midnights as a whole, she does have enough awards and it'd be boring to see it happen. Also you have Olivia and boygenious (sometimes) in there, so there's actually better choices.
“ballad of a homeschool girl” is a great rock song, so glad it got nominated. I agree, though “all-american b*tch” deserves more love & its would’ve been a great nomination for this category
Is it just me or is this the most white bread the Grammys have felt in a while. Everything is so...safe. Like I'm bored just reading the list. They're really expecting people to watch that?
Besides just commercial success, I do think Pop music fans care the most about these awards so it doesn't surprise me their juggernauts do the best. At the end of the day the Grammys need to make money, and I just think the pop audience pays way more attention to this stuff than any of the other genres.
I think this is actually the best crop of best albums they’ve had in a while. Not a high bar though lol, but it’s an improvement

The Grammy's are out of tune with everything that's going on below the surface of the music industry. Couldn't they have nominated more diverse artists? Only pop and urban in the general categories. It's the usual suspects again.
I think most of us (including me) are just getting bored with awards shows in general.

Things I’m glad about Miley for getting tons of nominations. I remember one plastic hearts was completely ignored and now she’s getting praised. I’ll give them that. Everything else has been pretty predictable or boring.
Now for a little rant, why does best pop dou/group performance mostly include collaborations and not actual music groups? In my personal opinion, we need a category specifically for music colabs. I feel like a lot of actual musical groups are snubbed because of this.
Also (I’m biased here but just need to get it out) very salty that Jonas Brothers The Album and Waffle House got snubbed. Considering that they were going to have an album in 2020 but then they scrapped it entirely for the album which is personally some of the best work in recent years. Anyways, best of luck to Miley. I’m sure she’ll get at least one.
Edit I’m also rooting for Jon Bellion because his projects are amazing!

There's no way Foo Fighters don't sweep the rock categories, they're already Grammy darlings, but they're even more likely to give it to them due to the tragic circumstances surrounding Dave Grohl which i can't help but feel has inflated the professional critics' reviews of the newest album.
Wouldn't have an issue with them beating Arctic Monkeys though, The Car was a pretty poor album and it had some good songs, but those aren't the ones that got nominated here.

I’m hoping at least Olivia Rodrigo wins Album of the Year, I really don’t want Taylor Swift to win, not that I didn’t like Midnights, I thought it was fine, but because she’s Taylor Swift and every time she drops a new album and it’s popular, they’ll give it to her, even though IMO Guts is the stronger album. Hell I wouldn’t be mad if boygenius or SZA win, I actually liked SOS a lot.
I was surprised Miley Cyrus got in there, I know Flowers has been a big hit, I didn’t expect Album of the Year for ESV. And while I thought it was a step down from Plastic Hearts, good for her. And now Billie Eilish, though she is like Taylor where she’s a Grammy magnet and it can get boring to see the same people win, What Was I Made For? is such a great track, it fits within the context of the movie, while still being a great song on its own, which for a soundtrack song, that’s a big compliment.
Cool seeing Paramore on there for Best Rock Album, This is Why has grown on me since I listened to it, but knowing the Grammys they’re giving it to the Foos and rightfully so, But Here We Are was fantastic and great return to form for them. Though I agree, I would put other songs on that record over Rescued like Under You, The Teacher, or Show Me How.
The Grammys kept awards from Taylor many times. She has never won Song of the Year, despite being nominated repeatedly. Speak Now was not even nominated for AOTY. Red did not win album of the year when it was nominated. Reputation, Lover, and Evermore were not nominated for AOTY. Reputation and Lover did not get Best Pop vocal album either. The Grammys profit from Taylor, but they have never just given her the award. She’s been beat more than she’s won.

The lists for rock are better than in many recent years. I would like to see QOTSA get something. Foo Fighters are likely to win at least one, not undeserving at all but also likely to win for sentimental reasons. I really hope Spiritbox wins. I hear a lot of objections to Olivia getting a rock nomination, but she’s a good thing for rock in general so I’m not complaining. Maybe I need to give the GVF album another spin but frankly it put me to sleep-they get too much attention while QOTSA doesn’t get enough.
I was disappointed Alvvays didn’t get Best New Artist or AOTY. But glad they got a nomination for Best Alternative Performance.

I don’t watch music awards show anymore and haven’t for many years. I pretty much don’t know any of the artists on them and don’t feel a connection to any of them. These shows don’t take rock and metal seriously. That genre is shunned for some reason. Seems it’s always pop and country is the focus.

I'm happy spiritbox got nominated. I still would like to see more international acts get nominated, including those who write music mainly not in English. I did not see any high-profile asian act get in at all this yr.

I don't really like how everyone has been putting Miley Cyrus down as if she doesn't deserve her Flowers. This girl has been in the industry for almost 2 decades now and haven't won a grammy. I think it's about time now she gets her plaudits. Plus, she barely promoted Flowers and ESV. Flowers blew up on its own, so it is not like she pushed for it to become popular. I hope Miley at least win something this time as it's long overdue.

If 72 season gets it, metal is fucking dead. Because Spiritbox more than deserve it, and 72 seasons is one of the blandest songs on the blandest and worst metallica have been probably ever. Say what you want about St. Anger with its trashcan snares but atleast the songs can emit some emotion which 72 seasons I just listened straight dead panned and unmoved and if I wasnt I was just annoyed. It just doesnt have any teeth to it, its metal without being even remotely heavy in anyway. It's just metal because it was made by metallica, its just really bad rock music.

@@Itzzy515 I never said that. I gave a quick review of times Taylor was or wasn’t nominated for major awards. You jumped to a false conclusion. In the video and this comment section there’s seems to be a dread about Taylor’s 6 nominations, as if she’s automatically going to win every category. That has never happened. Whether I believe she should have won any of these isn’t part of this conversation because this conversation is not based on my opinions. I’m just stating facts. The Grammys don’t favor Taylor like people pretend they do. Otherwise, they would have given her at least one SOTY by now and even more album awards. She’s won album of the year three times, which is a major achievement, but Fearless, 1989, and Folklore were major achievements also. The Grammys have never just handed her awards.
