I would like to know the meaning of "liberal democracy" It is a term that on the surface sounds foreign to our constitutional republic.

Thanks so much for listening and asking. I deliberated a lot over including that term due to the polarization of words in our dialogue, but in times like this, I will always go for the truth and not dance around political correctness.
A "liberal democracy" might sound like it's connected to liberal political views, but it's actually a term that describes a specific type of government system. In a liberal democracy, the focus is on ensuring that everyone has certain fundamental freedoms and rights. Here’s a breakdown of what it means and why it’s not something negative, even from a conservative perspective:
Rule of Law: In a liberal democracy, laws apply to everyone equally, including government officials. This prevents abuses of power and protects individual rights.
Individual Rights: It guarantees basic freedoms such as freedom of speech, religion, and the right to a fair trial. These are values that many conservatives cherish as they protect personal liberties.
Free and Fair Elections: It ensures that leaders are chosen through regular, free, and fair elections. This gives the people the power to choose their representatives and hold them accountable.
Separation of Powers: A liberal democracy divides government power among different branches (executive, legislative, and judicial) to prevent any one branch from becoming too powerful. This system of checks and balances is crucial for maintaining a stable and fair government.
Protection of Minority Rights: Even if the majority has the power, a liberal democracy protects the rights of minority groups. This prevents the "tyranny of the majority" and ensures that all voices are heard and respected.
Market Economy: Often, liberal democracies support a market economy where businesses operate with some level of freedom from government interference. This can align with conservative values of free enterprise and limited government.
So, while the term might sound like it's only for liberals, a liberal democracy is about creating a fair and balanced system where everyone’s rights are protected, and the government is accountable to the people. This kind of system supports many principles that we as conservatives value, such as individual freedoms, the rule of law, and a market-based economy.
Its termed "liberal" because it breaks from the tradition of monarchial rule and nobility based hierarchy that was primarily the norm for the development of governing systems for thousands of years.
Thanks again for asking and appreciate the discussion.

@@perspectivewithmikeb Thank you for the quick response. I am in total agreement t with he precepts of government as you state them. Our constitution is all about protecting the rights of individuals from being trampled by a powerful elite. A democracy is the opposite, it's focus is on rule by the majority with no concern for the person who thinks or act differently than the majority. That leaves me uncertain about why you interject "democracy'. Perhaps I am beating a beaten horse, but it is common that politicians and journalists mistakenly speak of our government as a democracy and citizens with limited understanding of government become enured to the term.

100% agree with your premise about democracy and that we are technically not one
We are considered by most who talk about these things a liberal democracy and I was speaking the language most people understand
I appreciate your push back and upon reflection I will make sure I focus on the concept of democratic Republic.
If you look at my other videos, you will see I am very cognizant of using the term republic
      Thanks for the feedback
