Awesome episode again and I am absolutely stoked for Canadian Highlander!
I always wanted to see that on the show!
wow you referenced my twitter handle! (definitely did not search to see how many other Mind Goblins are out there)
Wow... I have not played Baulder's Gate 3 and Prof's references flew over my head lol
Commander is for newbie and pussies
@@TheSimmusp
"What is your devotion to blue? Storm count is at one? How much infect?" 😂
"That actually puts me at delirium. I also have threshold."
I literally burst at laughing at "what's your devotion to blue" 😂
that had me straight up laughing out loud, what a legend.
I died at what's your dev to blue?
I loved that part of the video because it feels like a really good parody of how many mechanics there are in the game now. I love the jabs like this that players take at the game.
The failed mind goblin joke and subsequent realization of the joke by Cedric made me laugh so that I too was crying 😂
I don’t get the joke
They should have inserted a record scratch sound.
That was hysterical
@@zealouslyonpsychedelics mind gobblin these nuts?
@@zealouslyonpsychedelicsme neither
"So it's a Seething Song that wasted everyone's time?"
That hit hard
It's true.
Worse, it was an over costed Pyretic Ritual
i heard no lies
Not only that, it didn't actually net mana 😂😂.. it's a cascade bluffs that wasted everyone's time!
The saddest six word story in Commander
"For sale, Trailblazer's Boots. Never used"
You win
As soon as the sticker card came into play, it looked like Patrick was about to have an aneurysm, same feeling I had when the sticker cards were made legal.
More fuel for building og atraxa as a stickers/attractions deck since you can proliferate tickets
Agreed.
I mean, no more weird than +0/+2 counters, -1/-0 counters or the dexterity cards that are still legal.
@@casteanpreswyn7528those 3 things actually make sense.
@@casteanpreswyn7528 Dude, no way. The counters work how you think they do except that positive and negative counters cancelling out is only true for +1/+1 and -1/-1s. Otherwise those are just counters that do what they say they do. Dexterity cards, granted, are stupid, but are conceptually like destroying stuff at random. Stickers break so many conventions of the game and are really only similar to the ability of Skullbriar, which was also a mistake of a design.
Patrick's reaction to the sticker card speaks for me, I felt so seen in that moment
Same.
me every time an opponent presents stickers...
@@TJMiton😂 be honest, how often has it happened?
@@sirKonradical i play mostly australian highlander where goblins is a tier 1 deck, so pretty often
The counterspell joke had me in stitches
Quote of the year "Cedric if you had a counter spell in your hand and you didn't cast it, I will never forgive you."
I thought Cedric was going to be the star of the episode but Patrick's "I age greatly every time you speak" style weariness won me over.
Patrick Sullivan is the funniest person in magic. His exasperation is ELITE
The ending is everything I ever imagined Cedric and Patrick playing commander together would be, as a long time Re-Sleevables pod listener it’s perfection.
It just makes sense!
And I have a hunch that Ced actually baited Patrick into doing that. I mean, I don't doubt he plays that game when doing mtg online, but he _knows_ that Patrick can out B.S. him in defeat. Just look at him sit back and close his eyes!😂
Hard agree!
.....so the storm count is 1?
21:15 I went back to try to figure out what got censored before I realized Prof just actually said "Urza"
OMG I'M DYING!!!
LMAO
I am so glad i wasnt alone in this
Jim is like an alternate universe Steveo-O who never went off the rails.
You're right but I don't like it
Hahaha, I was thinking that Jim reminds me of someone. Here it is
I love how all the pro players were acting all-business until the Councils Judgment forced them all to take sides. Welcome to Commander!
🤔🤣
I’ve head Minsc & Boo described not as “Griselbrand but they pay”, but as “Bloodbraid Elf that always cascades into Jace the Mind Sculptor”
except each half is way better than elf and jace
minsc alone isnt better than jtms,@@lesternomo6578
I think Patrick said "but they " but both are hilarious ways of referring to how cracked Minsc & Boo is as a 60 card constructed staple.
Thank god they never made Mind Sculptor cost 3 or Bloodbraid cost 5
That's so complicated and not at all accurate. The grisselbrand one is way better.
This is just an hour of pro players losing their goddamn minds and I love it so much
47:50 moment is the sequel of "I feel like I'm trapped in a Escher's painting." from Spice8Rack in a previous episode.
And they were sitting at the same place even!
Prof just made an actually funny modern joke that NO ONE ELSE got with that Mind Goblin, HECK YEAH PROF
That endgame was so good I had to watch it twice, the tension was unbearable.
This is one of the funniest games I’ve watched. The anger from Pat, the quips from the Prof and Ced was what I needed on Monday.
At 10 minutes in this is the most passive-aggressive game I've seen and all they've played is lands.
1:26:21 the fact that Patrick's mind palace is *the* basic mountain his twitter account is named after was such a perfect touch 😘👌
“Mind goblin Dez nuts”…”OH I GET IT FINALLY!”
The birth of a short 🤩 49:32
He could also be #blessed Goblin DEEZ NUTZ
@@enoesiw
Can you tell me the meaning of deez nuts?
I still don't get it (hopefully just because english is not my native language)
@chrisbuch6042 deez sounds similar to these and nuts is a common euphemism for testicles. In this case, goblin is being used as a homophone for gobbling. So "goblin deez nutz" is a play on words for orally gratifying someone's testicles. And "Mind goblin deez nuts" I suppose is the polite way to make a crass joke.
@@chrisbuch6042A male's testicles are often referred to as his nuts. "Deez nuts" is a slang way of saying "these nuts". So, "mind gobbling these nuts?" is the full statement, which is basically just asking for sexual favors
@@chrisbuch6042 "deez nuts" = "these nuts"
"Mind goblin deez nuts"
"Mind gobbling (eating) these nuts?"
It's definitely because you're not a native speaker haha
This was by far the best episode of this series I have ever watched. Cedric learning about the Mind Goblin and the ending are absolutely sublime.
I have to say Cedric played this game masterfully; he understood the dynamics from the get go, and laid low, even defending the Professor, so that he could continue unleashing his rage on Jim, and then, out of nowhere (kinda, after building up for so many turns) he just one-shotted almost everyone.
Well played!
And no nonbasic lands....
Played around the boots perfectly too
and even during that had a board state that was difficult to attack into
because of guaranteed wasted value on who ever attacked
38:37 “I have a vague understanding of what it does and I’m happy with that” is so real lmao😂
That ending was so good. I really love P Sully's lack of care 1:30:12
"That actually puts me at delirium"
48:43 "Cedric, if you have a counterspell in your hand and you didn't counter this, I'll never forgive you"
🤣
Patrick during most of the game: Stone cold sarcasm.
Patrick when the stickers card comes out: WTF IS THIS BULLSHIT!
Patrick Sullivan responding to the sticker sheets is PEAK! OMG, rarely do truly LOL, but my God seeing this man's reaction to the sticker sheet was cathartic and hilarious.
The French "next time on" was very sweet for Canadian Highlander, a perfect cherry on top for watching Patrick's victory in defeat all the way through.
"Tu me battras jamais avec ça!!"
Patrick has been my favourite guest by far hope you have them come back in a future shuffle up and play
That Patrick dude was literally the funniest frikin mtg commander player I've ever watched in one of these types of videos...
His set design analysis on their podcast is equally funny and insightful.
I also love his often salty af anecdotes from playing on the tour, great podcast to watch.
Prof yelling "THREAT ASSESSMENT" is *exactly* how my pod goes. Loving the video!
The funny thing about yelling "TREAT ASSESSMENT" is similar to yelling "YOU ARE DECIDING WRONG" in Among Us. It's a great way to be right while still ensuring everyone else will choose wrong.
Jim seems like a player from 2002 that just learned about PW last week and thinks he has to kill them on sight.
The fact they included the legal sticker _____goblin
Patrick with the "if I kill it before it matures, do I need to hear more?" is amazing.
God, I miss Cedric Phillips and Patrick Sullivan so much. I would give anything to listen to them commentate on more competitive games.
I never thought a bit would top Prof sprinting to get the +2/+2 counters, but delayed "Mind Goblin" might have done it. 10/10 setup
what episode was that from?
the previous episode with test cards from magicons and Gavin
I think its hilarious how all the pros drew cards the same way and ket their hands facedown when it wasn't their turn. The professor was casual the whole time and was practically showing Jim his hand .
Whenever I watch people play commander it always ends like an episode of Yugioh where the players explain what each card does. I love it
Because....it's YT and they want to make sure the viewers know what the cards do?
@@neros_soren even at my lgs! Not just here!
1:05:05 this bit is the best moment of the episode so far. Just Cedric looking mischievous while the camera shows some evil effects. Perfect.
At the moment i see Jim, Patrick and Cedric in the table i know this Is gonna be One of my favorite episodes 😂
Patrick may be the funniest guest I’ve seen, and you’ve had many. His demeanor and delivery is superb.
The knowledge that prof has a 10 year old suddenly makes things make a lot of sense
This is actually the single most entertaining piece of commander content I have ever consumed. And I have consumed probably thousands of epps of commander content. Everyone involved deserves freaking awards or something. Bravo!
As someone who doesn't play a lot of Magic I still love this channel. Something about it reminds me of watching my older brother and his friends playing 20 years ago, while a late night Godzilla marathon played in the background.
"Do you have delirium?" is one of the funniest things ever uttered on an MtG channel
Prof sneaking in the “Mind Goblin” joke was peak content. 😂
Patrick Sullivan slowly turning more red during the resolution of Council's Judgement is everything I wanted and more when I read that Prof was forcing three veteran Magic Pros to play commander
EDIT: Just got to Patrick reacting to the stickers and I had to pause the video since I'm in a library atm and don't want my uncontrollable laughter to distrub the people around me xD
The credits rolling over the game was the funniest part
51:51 this is how every conversation starts at my playgroup, and how Prof points at the camera and smiles like that. 10/10
"I'm in my mind's palace right now" broke me.
The end of this episode was premium, I laughed so hard when Patrick keeps asking Cedric questions
It’s crazy how it’s already episode 45 of the series I remember when you released the first one! Glad you keep making these always excited to watch them.
The acknowledgement of when prof waved his hand everyone thought he was passing the turn lol. Old dogs new tricks etc.
Hilarious. Greatest ending to a game ever. Right up there with all disappearing into the void
Patrick became an actual bright red basic mountain card if he laughs too much lol
This might be my favorite commander game aired. Been really enjoying Cedric and P Sully's Reesleevables podcast but seeing them play is always a treat, especially Commander! Jim too, he's awesome and fun on his streams! Thanks for this, Prof. You're a legend!
0
The resleevables kicks ass!
I laughed so hard!! Lol great game yall. Patrick’s dry humor had me rolling. Jim’s content side was fun and Cedric’s seemingly pure innocent mind was just a hilarious combo
"Sorry, I was disassociating" I too feel this when I play commander
Also, that ending though.
This episode has such a special energy, watching 3 pro players fall apart during a single game of commander. I was skeptical before I started watching, but I think this is one of the best episodes.
Patrick's attitude for the game was top notch, well done sir!
this episode was a true showing of how the college's deckbuilders know their stuff. every deck was filled with "what the heck is this" for people who don't play commander
I didn't know Patrick Sullivan from Adam, but I am amazed at how well he can function while only having one expression at all times.
Best episode of Shuffle up & play ever. Spit out my water at "mind goblin this circular logic?"
I love anything with Patrick. That Arabian Nights mountain mind (goblin) palace killed me lmao.
as any seasoned pro tour player does at the end of a game, patrick went down the all important checklist:
>hand count
>drawn for turn?
>deck count
>delirium count
>threshold
>devotion to blue
>storm count
> infect creatures
This is instantly one of the best episodes of SU&P. I was laughing the entire time and the ending had me absolutely dying. Even as I type this, I continue to laugh just thinking about it. Great job to everyone involved.
Just realized that Pat & Ced are going to get an even bigger intro to commander, with the Prof of all people!😂
They've talked before about wanting to get into it (surprisingly, Patrick more than Ced,) and I think that Pat's tried it out a bit, so i'm interested to see just how much shit talk they have for the format!🤣
That "Commander is not about winning, but about having fun" argue is sooo relatable to my pod, and they are no Pro Tour attendants. LoL
Having fun is obviously great, BUT, the game has to end before too long. I've been kind of pushing people to run efficient interactions and solid wincons. A lot of decks durdle.
@@TehSeksyManz Well, that is not fun since the beginninng. A friend of mine has this bad habit to extend the game until it's an agony having all his wincons in hand just for it. Another pals tend to cast a wrath every turn, son it becomes unbearable.
So, I get your point.
Cedric and Patrick were literally the reason to watch SCG coverage. The fact i've seen these two commentate Jim's games multiple times just made me instantly click on the video. Pat is probably the funniest person in the MTG commentary game, and Cedric is just all around entertaining. Hoping to get more of them in the booth one day. Make me watch some paper magic again.
Patrick Sullivan is my new favourite Pro Player. This was the funniest Sup so far!
Jim Davis is the best.. he comes off as super chill..
He is! Super nice guy. Genuinely warm and very caring.
Dude is always nice if you catch him at events. I've seen him chat with random people mid game even and still be laser focused on the game
If Jim Davis is playing a Mardu goblins deck led by Yoshimaru, does that makes it the Dog and Ponyback Brigade show?
The entire Mind Goblin segment was so painful and anxiety inducing, but so funny
Haranguing the templating team for Cut a Deal, but in commander at least, "the number of cards drawn this way" can vary wildly.
YESSSSS - GO LISTEN TO THE UNSLEEVED PODCAST AND WATCH THE RESLEEVABLES, PATRICK AND CEDDY ARE THE BOMB - Thank you, Prof! And shoutout to Jim! Such an amazing crew for this episode!
I watch old SCG coverage just for the banter of Ceddy P and PSulli. Their chemistry is off the charts. Sadly WOTC never signed both of them to do coverage
Old men bantering and playing with colorful cardboard. I'd say Cedric, Jim and Patrcik are born to be commander players 😂
Patrick makes me crack up so severely, especially when he also breaks down and laughs. My god the ending was fantastic
10/10 episode, from the Mind Goblin fiasco to that absolute masterpiece of a finale. And I'm super looking forward to the next episode, I love watching Canadian Highlander and Ben and Serge are 2 of my favorite content creators.
I like getting to see what Prof has upcoming. The stuff he (well, him and the tolarian team) puts out is So good that I'm happy to see it more often on my feed
Poor Patrick at the end. Ced was playing with his food! But it was fun seeing them together again in commander. If they're ever back in town to do another round, well, hopefully they have more fast decks. Poor boots only got used once lmao
The absolute fun and chaos of having pro players that don't play Commander is hilarious. Highlights include: everything about the sticker card; rating everything based on its play in competitive or Vintage Cube; and Prof being able to get such great guests!
"Cedric, if you had a counterspell in your hand and didn't cast it, I will never forgive you." I'm dead. I had to minimize this screen at work and was literally laughing out-loud at this!
Watching the professor since his first video, but never watched a Shuffle up and Play Episode, because im not into commander gameplay. But with these people i couldnt wait when i saw the announcement... and what a video, i laughed so hard and enjoyed every second. Thank you so much Prof.
There are modern and pauper episodes of SU&P
Him finally finding out the Mind Goblin joke is better than the actual joke
Would watch a million videos with this squad. One of my fave episodes so far. The modern video with Cedric and Patrick got me into 1 v 1 magic from commander.
Thanks so much, Prof!
Cedrick is one of my all time favorite creators! If he ever sees this, you’re awesome and inspired so many of play patterns when I was learning the game! Best of luck! All the support from here! 🎉
CEDRICK! LETS GOOOOOOO!! And Patrick too! So good to see these gents again.
Bahaha that credits roll is so good
This is arguably my favourite commander game of all time on UA-cam, not just this channel. Mind Goblin For President.
The way Jim and Cedric were cracking each other up the whole way through. I need these two to pair up again and often.
Ayyy, we love seeing Jim Davis! Or, I do, at least. Thanks Prof, great episode!
Love Cedric and Patrick's dynamic together, beautiful ending
When Patrick closed his eyes and just started rocking back and forth. I felt that
This is the most hilarious game of commander I have watched. The commentary and the bickering and the facial expressions just sell it. Well done prof.
I cannot express with words how much I enjoy watching Cedric and Patrick together.
Probably one of the funniest eps you've put out, Prof. Commander gameplay videos are, IMO, much more enjoyable when everyone is just chatty and punchy. Makes it feel like my home games.
The quickness with which Patrick went from speeding up the game to stalling it at the end was hilarious 😂😂😂
This is my favorite ending bit to any Shuffle up and Play ever. The slow play as they both waste time with questions is wonderful. Patrick got the moral victory there for sure.
