Most Nigerians don’t live like this. You must remember that Makoko is a fishing community. They actually chose to live like this, even though that decision owes partly to poverty. But to say, they live here because they are poor: that’s not entirely true.
It's not about where you live, like in all 1st World nations, there's some real poverty in Canada & in parts of Lagos you'll find great wealth. Granted, no Health Ministry should allow a Makoko to exist. More incompetent government than anything else.
my heart goes to the nature and what this people did to it. Imagine how this place could have looked without this people. This mess did not create itself.
I believe that this is one of your best videos ever! if is not the best one! because of many reasons: most people just don't realize the beauty and the historical importance of this place! but this is really one of the most beautiful and historic places in Lagos! and in Nigeria! yet it is rarely or never shown to the turists! for obvious reasons, but most of those are just prejudices and unjust judgements! because this is a very beautiful place! believe it or not! it is living miracle! and it has been that way for more than two centuries! and when you realize that this has lasted for so long you understand better that this is really a living miracle! and now it can be considered an even more impressive miracle! since for many decades people could live like this more easily because there was less people and plenty of fish and pure water around! but over the years as time has passsed now there is much more population, with much more polution, and obviously less puré water and fish to eat because of that! you can even see this problem in this video with those little kids trying to get at least a little fish to eat! so far away from their homes! therefore it almost made me cry that part of this video when you just give away a little bit of money to those little kids far away in that very polluted place just trying to get some little fish to eat!... you could tell by their surprised faces that no one had ever given them anything for free! in their whole lives! and their little and short lives have been very difficult and hard! as you can easily see here!... So it's very nice to hear one of them even tell you: "God bless you"!... and even dance a little bit in this little temporary blusa of happiness!.... This whole video is very beautiful, but this was the best part!.... but all in all it even gave me a new reason and hope to believe to believe more in miracles!... and to keep on believing more in God!
Hi Ramon. I know right? This place is so fascinating, although I won't ever want to live in a place like that. Ludo always does great videos! I am still in the midst of watching. @@JanJan-pq4im Even as a privileged American, I still remember the girl who worked at Circus World, a toy store in the mall, ordering my brother and me to open our bags, like we had stolen something, then throwing a bag of big league chew (shredded gum you could pretend was chewing tobacco 🙆🏽♀️) in each of our bags. For kids who are used to being mistreated everywhere they go or at best, just ignored, a random act of kindness means so much.
Thank you for showing the other part of Africa. Life is a journey that each person makes his or her own choice till they go back to the ground. Love is the answer to the worlds problems!
For happiness i would say definitively yes. that is true somehow for health. However some important stats can be pointed out life expectancy in Nigeria is around 53 years old.

Another experience I was curious about. Makoko is special in many ways. The people have created an unbelievable city on water and the government does not see the benefits of this- instead, they want to ear it down. SMH- you wonder who do they serve? The lack of infrastructure is frightening and I wonder what is the statistic for deaths by drowning, disease by contamination and natural disasters What about the stench of the water? Has the government done any test of the water to see the types of bacteria that exist? What about sanitation? You mentioned the communal bathhouse but how clean and safe is that? What about Covid rate in Makoko? There are many kids and no surprise the fertility rate is high but it is clear that the lack of medical facilities is dire as no one cares chief of which is the government. Disappointed in the lack of care and attention but not surprised. People living on the water is not a novel idea. People living like how they live in Makoko is criminal and the government is to blame for the total don't care attitude of its people.

Have you ever visited really poor countries? Have you ever BEEN in Africa? Not every part of Africa is the same. And history shows, places have been extremely rich and healthy! Or poor and happy and healthy. What we see now, is just our times. Crowded cities are always at risk of deadly diseases. That is a rule of thumb. And, finally GO THERE and see for yourselves. Maybe you will start fighting your kapitalist moron politicians, that would help a lot. Thank you.
Yes, the City is in a deplorable state; everyone can see that. But did you notice how happy they are? They are wearing clothes made of the most beautiful and vibrant colours. On top of it, it"s peaceful and the children are happy. Peace & love to them 🙏🏾🌹
Thank you for this interesting but sad lifestyle of hundreds of people in a blessed country called Nigeria. It's a shame that they have to live in such slum despite the vast natural gifts of God in my country. Yes , I enjoyed watching and smiling as the beautiful faces of the people and children shows contentment, peace and joy as they ho about daily business. I wonder how they sleep daily in those sheds on the water and yet strife with joyful faces. I wonder how they cope daily , when some of us live in better places and yet complains daily. May God continue to protect them and pray some of the children gets head way in life to become a point of reckoning in the society .Amen. Thank you Liu 🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍
Its amazing how happy some of the people are with big smiles like the boys selling fish and they're living in such tough conditions that many westerners have no idea even exists. I hope God protects them and convinces the rich people of the world to give money.

What an incredible journey to Makoko, the driver was very patient and pleasant to the people.I was aghast that some of the homes have tarps for walls,I wondered how bad weather or storms affect them, I heard a lot of children, wish they knew what it’s like to run around on land. Lots of banana boats, women steering them, some selling foodstuff and merchandise. It’s amazing , the resilience and will power of a people to survive. The youth were out fishing, a young boy didn’t know the value of money. I lift my prayers for these floating villages and it’s people,

It is called ''the curse of the source''... when people that have most resources have least benefits from them. They lack infrastructure and ''know how''... common thing throughout the history. Sadly, huge part of Western civilization is built on theft, plunder, exploitation of ''third world'' countries. Take Belgium for example... how it is perceived in modern days - land of chocolate, beer, cheese... then take a look at what they did in Congo. Not to mention Spain, Britain, France, United States, Germany, Netherland, Italy... it is an unspeakable crime what they did to Africa.

thanks a lot for watching, and giving a feedback please feel free to share the link of that video on your social network
You people and ur country is underlying cause of their extreme poverty . U people r super super super rich and they r duper and duper and duper poor
It's not about where you live, like in all 1st World nations, there's some real poverty in Canada & in parts of Lagos you'll find great wealth.
Granted, no Health Ministry should allow a Makoko to exist. More incompetent government than anything else.
I saw a documentary about the area a few months ago. My heart goes out to them. Thank you for documenting this area.
I am glad you came to find that video, and appreciated the content.

But…but…they’re a great contribution to society.
@@jungleno. They are human beings who have been shoved to the edge of society. I'm sure they make more of a contribution than leaving obnoxious comments on UA-cam

I wonder how they sleep daily in those sheds on the water and yet strife with joyful faces.
I wonder how they cope daily , when some of us live in better places and yet complains daily. May God continue to protect them and pray some of the children gets head way in life to become a point of reckoning in the society .Amen. Thank you Liu 🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍
