They don't call him The God of Manga for nothing! Tezuka is superb, he's one of my all time favorite artists ever!
I love that scene in Tatsumi’s “A Drifting Life” where he see that Tezuka draws the hands first. This whole last fight scene feels like the hands are so crucial to each panel composition.
Urasawa's Monster and Tezuka's Ode to Kirihito are two of my favorite multi volume comics. Brilliant, amazing reads. Tezuka's layouts on Kirihito are some of the best ever. They bring forth emotion with the pacing that his creative panel layouts allow in an amazing way.
Awesome video! Tezuka is hugely respected but I still don't think he gets enough attention in the U.S. Thanks for all the great spotlights on these amazing creators.
I was just thinking about how I need to read Astroboy and here you guys are dropping the education
Almost every aspect you guys enjoy about Tezuka in this comic led down the line in Dragon Ball and later One Piece. The uneven paneling, the ludicrous work pace and even the small details like the angler fish you liked.
If One Piece isn't on yall radar yet I can assure you it's worth checking it out, there's a reason it's the most selling manga of all time, it's even surpassed Spider-Man in sales
Nice to see you guys looking at this. Tezuka's my hero! Great video!
It makes me so happy seeing that people still remember astro.
He deserves the attention after all this time.
The World's Strongest Robot arc was brilliantly adapted within Astro Boy: Omega Factor on Game Boy Advance. The game takes full advantage of the robots' designs and abilities to craft distinct and fun boss battles.
Also, I coincidentally start reading Billy Bat just the other day. I'm about eleven chapters in and I already completely lost the plot.
Didn't they also reference the Marine Express movie in that game? :D
Author for Pluto has his own UA-cam channel
For my tastes, there is no stronger all-around comic artist. He's a Barks/Bushmiller master of pure cartooning. I don't even know who to compare him to in terms of how prolific he is. Ishinomori only beat his page count by living longer. He invented layouts and concepts that we'd wait decades to see in the west.
Props to his assistants too though!
Interested folks should seek out our Master Of Manga facebook group.
Finally a video talking about the og work and not just pluto
This was pretty neat! Thanks!
Wow never saw the amazing manga illustrations I'm going order me those volumes my son going like these stories. Please keep making more of these manga creators.
Man, Tezuka was so awesome. Thanks for this content boys
I love his darker works, like Message to Adolf, and MW. I'm gonna read Phoenix last because I heard everything else he's done pales in comparison
Another great video guys!😎
Going to order a copy of this book.👍
I have read Triton, I liked it a lot and have read a little of his Astro Boy also very good. Very cartoony looking but highly recommend it.
You guys should look up a supposed inspiration for Astro Boy called Tank Tankuro. From the 30's and it's recently been translated so you can buy a physical copy.
C'mon son. We have Tank Tankuro.
Never really knew much about Astro Boy. I've yet to delve into Japanese comics, this definitely has me interested.
Pretty sure they adapted this story to the animated series.
andrew keachie they did, but only the 2000s one was really faithful to the source in looks. The 60s was very rushed due to limited budget and animation of the time. The 80s has the final robot they fight look like some kind of weird ghidora monster. It was eh.
Omg people know Slam Dunk? I love you guys, that show was huge to me
It's interesting that working for a smaller size Tezuka still used a 4 tier page layout with up to 12 panel per page. It seems like modern manga often has only 3-4 panels per page.
I read that comic. Osamu Tezuka was a genius.
I have this entire story in the Japanese format!
Are you have more works of tezuka?? Other numbers of Astroboy for recommend ?? ... Great Video!!!!
Last year they published How to draw Manga by Tezuka (1977) in French. I hope they translate in English someday so you guys can put that under the microscope! Also you should check out Tezuka's Ode to Kirihito, there are a bunch of experimental page layouts... Some really work, others not so much.
Why isn’t this on Shonen jump app I’m sad now after watching Pluto I want more
We need a reprint of Pluto vol 3 sooooooo bad!!!
Ughh and vol 5
That panel of the weapon firing from his ass triggered a traumatic experience I had. Are you familiar with the Machine Girl spinoff called Shyness Machine Girl? ua-cam.com/video/rnXRTr_eabQ/v-deo.html
