i think that is their target. they want to stand out by improving what really matters. they keep the general design and shapes alike, similar to corporate design. you will always recognise a porsche as a porsche thanks to that.

Unregulated Market Economy yeah I passed a bunch of cars when I took my bizarre to its first track day. I wasn’t sure which run group I should be in so I went with beginner, the one that stuck out to me was the 12C on trofeo R’s. There was also the obligatory GT3 RS and GT4... and a bunch of Teslas for some reason.

Nice review Doug, however I need to highlight a few points you overlooked. The coin holder is designed for tolls in Germany. In 2018 you can use a credit card, but in the past you used to use coins to pay at motorway tolls. The Sport and Suspension buttons are useful, as the car is designed to be able to drive to and from a track. Therefore when you are on the road you don't want the firmer 'track' suspension. You also failed to mention the fact that the front wings, bonnet and rear spoiler are made of carbon fibre. That is what makes the car so light. In addition the rear window is made of plastic rather than glass to save weight. One final fact, they painted the car instead of exposing the carbon fibre as it is lighter than coating the car in a special gel. The car is amazing on track and not bad on the road either. Another reason it has become collectible is due to the fact that the 991 model, which came later, has electric steering whilst the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 has hydraulic steering. By the way, I am not sure what those alloy wheels are, but they are not factory wheels. Fun fact: The car laps the Nurburgring in 7m 27s which is a second faster than a Carrera GT.

Fun fact : this car was originally made to beat Ferrari in FIA GT championship. Because they needed a 4.0L production engine to race against the F430 (also 4.0L), porsche have to build at least 500 of these special 911 (I was working in a Ferrari team at that time...

Actually that is oils from your hand that buildup on the alcantara shifters and steering wheels, if it is cleaned with some interior cleaner or carpet cleaner and a microfiber cloth it cleans right up like new.
Driving gloves preserve your interior. Then you can actually use your "glove box" for it's literal purpose.
When I got my 06 Cayman used, the steering wheel and shift knob were both shiny from caked up hand oil and dirt. I used Ammo Shag interior cleaner with a soft brush on it and it looked brand new. I bet that's all the red knob in this video needs.

Doug - FYI, the whole "power windows are heavier" rule kinda went out the window some years back. I road raced a 2000 Trans Am. In the process of converting from a street car to race car, I considered putting in manual windows. Turns out, in that particular model (4th Gen F-Body), the manual windows are around 5.5lbs heavier (per side) than power. Of course, it will depend on the car, but for most cars nowadays (lighter motors, smaller components, etc.), power windows will be slightly lighter.

Think Doug would rather sit in the passenger seat examining quirks and features.
When you open a car door with a frameless window, the window rolls down just a little bit to clear the seal. That means you cannot just throw out the electric operated windows and put manual ones in. If there needs to be a motor anyways to operate the door, you can use it to lower the window completely.
I think the real reason for a sport mode in this and other modern cars and even trucks is that the EPA will test the car in regular mode it ships with, so they can detune it for optimized economy and get that on the window sticker and in their corporate cafe books but still offer a sport, which is really just “normal”, mode
And to make it drive a little bit easier outside the race tracks.

So they save weight on a decal over a metal badge and cloth loops instead of door latches but then select a beefy trunk escape latch and house it in a plastic surround cubby and also include a heavier shock for the engine lid? Their weight-savings is a little bi-polar.

Yeah it was more a manufacturing bit of trick. The 4.0 had a CF hood where most of the other production 911s were aluminum. The Aluminum hoods had an indent and two holes punched for the badge to fasten. That's more complicated on a CF hood. Easier to built it completely flat.. So they build the mold without the pin holes or indent for the badge and then just slap a sticker on it. BOOM save 7 grams. Spin it, marketing team! lol
They could have put on proper Porsche emblems, and not the stupid stickers, if they didn't use a giant and heavy latch for the inside trunk release. A piece of string and a cloth loop is all it needs, but they made this giant complex latch? I don't get Porsche "weight saving" at all. I love that Doug called out Porsche on this stupidity as well: no door handles, but power windows. A sport mode button and adjustable suspension, which would add weight and complexity in your track car. Also complex metal cup holders, 2 of them, in your track car. Yet Porsche fanatics will bend over backwards to justify it all. Porsche is fine with that, they can make the gearshift out of dog crap and cover it in alcantara and the Porsche fanboys will buy every single one over sticker and will say it is the best thing ever because it saves 0.002 grams.

Power windows are not necessarily heavier than hand-cranked windows, and fixed lexan windows with sliding vents are the lightest (see real race cars); but your point is sound - despite the track emphasis and genuine performance, this car is intended for rich guys to show off to his friends on Sunday mornings at the coffee shop - "Hey, look at that crazy decal hood badge!"

It was a 2011 GT3 RS 4.0, it had stock the back wing that says 4.0 on the sides, also had the stripes on the side that say RS 4.0. Orange color with black wheels.
He is a doctor and does not care about cars, he wanted to sale it because warranty was expired and the ride was to stiff.
He offered it to me but I didn't have the money after I investment I did. But the RS 4.0 could be a better investment. I just didn't Know the value of them.

252laylow - Removal of the badge is multifaceted. IMO the biggest reason is for aero, but there are actual technical safety reasons for track use. Its probably mostly unnecessary but there is a rhyme and reason to it all.

I'll just say: I bet the power window motor and switch weighs less than the crank and gears for a manual...BUT I'll also say: the emblem is a decal probably more for aerodynamics than weight....if it sticks above the flat plane of the hood I bet it causes a minute amount of turbulence.....I say this because there's more than a dozen other places weight could be saved instead of the metal emblem.

Muskoka Mike the electric motor for power windows does weigh less than the crank window mechanism. thankfully somebody knows that. the viper also has power windows for that reason

Doug has mentioned multiple times that the strap door opener is a gimmicky because some of those cars also have electric windows. I wonder how much a power window weights vs manual windows? and how much a strap door opener weights vs a plastic one. It would be nice to know if its actually a gimmick or if Doug is overlooking weight differences.

Guys, power windows and electric windows are the same thing. He was talking about how it didnt have a manual crank window. Which honestly would probably be the biggest weight save in the whole car.

Manual crank windows would save over 1lb from the weight of the electric motor, the same reason it has manual seats. The door handle saves an insignificant amount of weight, but it does add to the illusion of weight savings, race car etc.

The cup holders are not brilliant. They can't hold more than a small or medium cup at best. You can crush the cup ratcheting them down to tighten them and any spills on the driver side holder falls right on the infotainment unit and/or console.
Doug love your videos ! But the writing on the fuse door about the battery is to tell you that if your battery dies its in the truck and there is no way to open it without power but there is a positive battery terminal in the fuse box so you can jump the car and then open truck to service or replace the battery . I know this cause it happened to me on my 997 and it drove me nuts !!!

The diagram on the fuse box cover is not to tell you the battery is in the front.
It’s there to tell you that in the event of a dead battery the front can be opened by accessing the fuse panel box which has a positive terminal to connect a power source to release the latch.
The best thing about the cupholders that you didn't mention is that each parks in front of an air vent so air conditioned air bathes your cool drink in frigid air.
Owner drives the car on track and has custom roll cage installed but still had 3 point seat belt.
