He said "I do not speak English" and then spoke in much better English than all the Italians who had their speeches from that stage over the years (e.g. Benigni's terrible English).
The best proof that the Academy members did good in awarding this evergreen masterpiece and not raise the red lantern is an instant look of these 2 films respective destinies after 30yrs : hundreds millions of world spectators still watch with interest and love Mediterraneo for its deep moral values & great issues talking of spirit and significance of human dignity, nobody out of chinese audience instead remembers and ranks the other movie. If any denies all this he's got poor culture skills and I'm so sad for him...
It's insane that anyone smart enough to tie their shoes could watch this film (or any of the competitors) and think it was better than "Raise The Red Lantern".

Trucco sicuramente curato ed elaborato con impegno...ma l'invecchiamento dei protagonisti mai funziona, in nessun film, Cederna era pressoché identico
E poi le voci uguali😳...limpide come in gioventù, ERRORE ASSURDO, assolutamente da evitare
(Io personalmente il rincontrarsi l'ho trovato patetico già di x sé, ma Salvatores ha voluto così e va bene)
