    Coming from a 790 Duke this bike felt alien to me. Riding position felt similar but footpegs felt are so high up.
    The feeling on the road was totally different experience. The RS felt numb to the road, it just absorbed everything. It would just hold its line, the never seemed to move around it would just flow through corners. Totally strange experience and actually unnerving at first. So much power but it doesn't jerk or get away from you, you only get what you ask for unlike the 790 which is very urgent in comparison.

      @@AYYOFLOCKA Hey the 1200 was a friends not mine. Iv ridden it a couple times and an rsv4 and i definitely prefer the 790 for the hills than either. Far more fun. The 1200 feels too good almost. Its not as playful as the 790.

    I test rode this a few weeks back. Handles lovely and brakes are very strong. Felt light and flickable. Well built, good finish. The Tuono felt heavy and slow to turn in comparison. The Triumph does loose out on mid range punch to the Other bikes in this sector.
    This bike would have been a contender if they separated the wheelie control and traction control. I find that just lazy.

    • @f270

      Triumph is completely dropping the ball on electronics! I love my 765rs but it could use an imu and advanced electronics. I'd love to buy a 765 moto2 but for that price with old tech? And now this, what's the point of an imu if you can't have wheelies and TC separate?

      One strange thing i dont understand is how folks rave and carry on how wonderfully AWESOME the Yamaha CP3 900 engine is...I mean it really gets the accolades! But I dont seem to hear similar opinion towards the RS? I would have thought being more powerful and higher revving (i think?) it would get even more praise than the much lower powered CP3 Yamaha motor? Are the both not similar firing orders? Is the "cross plane" THAT much different that it attracts such adoration compared to other triples? BTW I DO own a '22 Yamaha MT-09 with the TRULY intoxicating CP3 890cc motor ....if the 1200RS has a similar nature then I want one! I mean if it is the 170 hp version of the little 117hp CP3 ....IS that the case? Or not?

    • @dougiequick1
      @dougiequick1 Рік тому

      BTW The rumors appear consistant and persistant that Yamaha is just about to reveal a brand new R! TRIPLE! At least one source suggests it will be 1100cc and almost all the sources suggest it being TURBO charged to boot! Can you imagine A wonderful natured CP3 similarly adorable to the MT09 motor except DOUBLE the power?? Which a Turbo 1100 triple could EASILY deliver (double would be like 235hp) It would simply destroy everything in the class INCLUDING Italian V4s and Austrian 1290s and even would give the H2 a royal pain its arse! Besides you KNOW Yamaha will make any R1 Turbo r otherwise competitvely lightweight so it is NOT going to be the heavy beast the supercharged H2 is! Turbos are lighter than SC anyway and a three cylinder is considerably less metal than an Inline 4 Actually I figure its totally possibly Yamaha could build Turbo Triple R1 that is just as light as their current normally aspirated R1. Also note that with today's turbo technology the troubling turbo lag with hard hitting power is a thing of the past if done right...apparently the key is in using sophisticated fueling programs and running larger (than ld school) turbos but using less boost...it COULD be perfection? We shall soon see I suppose

    Why as an OEM, not picking on Triumph, would you have a press launch (lots of $$$) and not have a suspension guy(s) there to dial in the bike for the journalist??? Here's your bike for the day.....lets set the sag, turn the knobs for street vs track and go have fun. Adjust through out the day as needed. This is 2021 and IMO it's very short sighted by the OEM's. Looks like a really nice bike.

    • @91scalloped
      @91scalloped 2 роки тому +1

      I totally agree! I own one and it is so comfortable and you can trust the bike in every corner: you didn’t feel like you’re going to high side from super nose dive, you don’t feel like the ass is constantly going to give out moving higher or lower in a corner passing someone then going max wrist, or any real problems I’d bitch about. I’m 6’5 and my lanky ass can make this bike do whatever I want on the track or street. I own a panigale V4s and this speed triple is no dog by any means.

    I've got a 2020 Speed Triple RS. Only goes on the road, it's too fricking quick for me , speed limits, or my abilities. I do find it quite comfortable. I'm itching to get a go on this one, although I think my wallet will be safe this summer (unlike last summer, when it got emptied on a Speed Triple RS)
    As for the old Speed Triple RS not being any quicker than a Street Triple RS , well maybe, but my naff gear selection means I find riding a Speed Triple RS more enjoyable. I don't have to bang up and down the gear box as much as I did on test rides of the Street RS. Yeah the Street RS was more agile, but I guess I like lazy gear selection, and just using the low down torque coming out of corners.

    Have heard a few testers complaining about how stiff the bike is. Shame because that shouldn’t be the case with the state of Triumphs home countries roads. The suspension development team should have ironed that out, no excuse at the price of bikes today. Good looking bike all the same.

      @dougiequick1 Рік тому

      I would be in love with the s1000R save for one issue being they mount the headlight and clocks to the FORKS rather than the frame! IMHO that just sucks for adding a windscreen! With a frame mounted headlight like the MT-10 and 1200RS there is the potential for adding a windscreen that WONT be trying to steer the bike in strong cross winds etc. The only thing with the Triumph is there are no robust windscreens available that I can find! Just a tiny one from Puig is all I have seen s far as opposed to the MT10 there is a whole selection of avialble sizes

  • @bansi1
    @bansi1 3 роки тому

    Having had the previous three generations of Speed Triple R/RS I can tell you why the back end felt weird. All three of my Triples equipped with the Ohlins TTX suspension came from the factory with fuck all spring preload in it. Looking at how much the bike compressed when you leaned on it stood next to it talking-I can already see this is the case.
    All three of my bikes had the preload to the minimum levels. All three bikes had to be taken to a professional to get the sag and static sags dialed in. They all needed over three whole turns of the preload collar to get the required amount. And I'm not fat weighing 86kg. Once dialled in they all became weapons in the bends.

      Agreed my 765RS preload was so light. I had to give the shock 4 or 5 turns

    Sold my diavel 1260s for this speed triple 1200 and haven’t regretted it once. It is the perfect combo of a panigale V4s vs diavel. God the dash is so much nicer in person. This bike is awesome. I simply hated triumph bikes but this one sold me instantly. I bought mine with a 15lbs lighter titanium exhaust and 15 more hp and goddamn ole mighty the bike gets scary. The throttle response is so responsive… whiskey throttling is a very real possibility if you don’t respect that throttle once modified. I’m a pangigale V4s owner and lover but this bike will handle with some stiff competition.

    I'm confident that a fully faered version will come out eventually, in the same sense the Tiger 1050 Sport was a faered version of the speed triple, yeah yeah, taller and whatnot, but that's the kinda variant of bike that sells, not sportsbikes

    Does sound naughty. I was looking to trade in my Tuono Factory 2018 for the Ducati Street Fighter S. It didn't feel any quicker but was quite peaky so lass mid range than my Tuono.
    This looks like it's something I need to try. The KTM I had new with the original 1290R 1.0 66 Reg. Although was fun it fell to bits and just was not worth the premium price for a sub standard quality bike.

    Seems like Triumph has moved the Speed into sportier territory. But why? What's wrong with making it a better road bike? The Speed has traditionally been a great all rounder you could do anything on. Have they fallen into the trap of making a so called 'super naked' and in the process destroyed it's original ethos? Who the hell is going to use this as a regular track bike? Why don't they just build a new Daytona already and leave the Speed for the street where it belongs!

    Al, you should definitely do a video on popping wheelies. Too many people have this idea of “rev the tits off the bike, dump the clutch, snd rely solely on the back brake.” I’ve been riding a long time and yes the back brake comes into play, the bike does have to be revved higher than normal, snd the clutch does need to have to be released harder but you do it like I’ve always done it; I get the rpm’s high enough, not pinging the rev limiter, dump the clutch 3/4 to full and then feather the throttle and use the rear brake only as necessary.

    I bought a 2020 superduke r 4 months ago. I really wish I would of waited. Then again its been freezing and I haven't given it a good thrashing yet. First service and its had a wiring relocation recall, due to the rear subframe rubbing wires bare.

    That sucks. So much for upgrading to this, Striple R is just a better street bike it seems. I get they want everything to be a track weapon, but I think it makes shit sense unless I am just grossly underestimating how many people go to the track and how often they do so. Hopefully they give us a more road oriented model down the line that isn't a neutered touring model.

Latest model Tuono looking like the daddy again. Me I got a 4 year old MT 10 and it may be well short of class leading but it’s hilarious fun whilst this trumpet is may be a bit too serious? Fast enough but not enough there to tempt me, Tuono is another 3k however, anyway thanks for the test.
