Yep, Japanese and S.Korean executive cars from the 90s are some of the rarest things you'll ever see. Mitsubishi Galant, Kia Clarus, Daewoo Leganza, Nissan QX, the list goes on!
Car throttle was good when Alex was there, but I think that Alex leaving was the best thing that could’ve happened to both channels. Alex being the natural presenter that he is his best suited running his own show where he can be the main man that he wanted to be. Now with these three the dynamic is perfect. Once Mazda certified American here. We got the 2.3 miller cycle engines. Drove a couple back in the early 2000s and they were quite fun. I'm a technical nerd too so loved the function of the Miler Cycle. I have to point out you got it a little off on the valve opening logic. The exhaust valve remains open while the crankshaft is in the first few degrees BDC to eliminate the inefficient compression action that happens from low leverage during those moments of angle. The supercharger then makes up for that loss plus a little bit more resulting in a net gain of combustibles while losing a little friction. Check out the Isky 5 cycle cams and Miller cycle engines from the 60s if you want to see the origin and some neat applications of the engineering. Really love Mazda's propensity for the oddball engines. I'm a rotary nerd too. Sad how much Ford has messed with their reliability.
@@Mandarin9900 they weren't super common but not weird to see one until maybe last 5-10 years. Now I'm trying to think of the last time I saw one. They did suffer from a few quirks and were very unforgiving of lazy maintenance so I bet that has something to do with the lack of them I've seen.
My mom had the v6 millenia. It was a good driving car, but it was surprisingly expensive to fix. She sold it when it just wasn't worth keeping on the road.
I'm about to say something heretic but this format (all 3 people have a main role) is significantly better than when Alex was around. I'm enjoying both Car Throttle and Alex's videos thoroughly
I loved the Xedos 6 and 9 back in the 90's; i remember trying to convince my Dad to choose a Xedos 6 as his company car but he ended up with a rather pedestrian Rover 600 in non-metallic pillarbox red instead :( There were a few non-premium exec cars in the 90's and the depreciation on them at the time was scary .... they are all super rare (and i reckon quite cool) now. Really feel you need to find a Nissan QX, a Renault Safrane and/ or a Peugeot 605 aswell and do a road trip 😎
My old man ended up with a year old Carlton Diplomat or CDX around that time as the Scorpio looked like a frog and the omega wernt there yet would love a road trip in any of those but I think these days a nice v6 Citroën Xm wagon to waft along in would be the way
I remember seeing a 605 in the local classifieds about 8yrs old that had done over 330,000 miles! Now THAT'S executive! Sometimes high mileage can mean well looked after, but you never can quite tell!
These Mazda's were known as the Millenia in the mid-90's to the early 2000's here in the States. Miller cycle engine came in some of them (I don't think all of them though here). Drove one of these in 1997 when the Mazda dealer I bought my FD through gave it to me as a loaner when my car needed a new motor. The Millenias were interesting cars.
For me this is exactly what Mazda is all about when it comes to pushing the boat out and trying something different with their engines, take the Skyactiv-X for example today... Having owned a MX-3 1.8 V6, MX-6 V6, and now an RX8 40th they are all underrated in the public eye. I'll always love Mazda as a quirky and well engineered car manufacturer. This is so exciting to me because I absolutely love the Xedos cars. The Xedos 6 and 9 were excellent to drive and I think excellent to look at. I love that they are starting to get more recognition now, my grandma has a Eunos 500 (What the Xedos 6 was sold as over here in Australia) with the beautiful 2.0L V6 Mazda K engine and oh my god I fell in love with that car. Sadly, it's not registered anymore and needs a few things doing to it, but their minor things like the paint and needs new tires. But it's sitting in their garage under the cover, and hopefully someday in the future I can re register it, get new tires and drive it around more. Absolutely love these cars.

I used to own a Ford Probe GT, which used the same KL 2.5l V6 that was in the Millenia/Xedos whatever. The KJ-ZEM that is in this car is a close relative of the KL 2.5. I believe it was the piston bore of the 2.5 but the shorter stroke of the 2.0. They were available in the US but still super rare. I was a mechanic for nearly 20 years and I think I’ve worked on 2. They were a great luxury car and the K-series V6s were unbelievably smooth. This was the most powerful version of the K-series engine, just edging out the 200hp KLZE 2.5l. I think they look really cool too and they’ve aged well.

America actually got it too, it was called the Mazda Millenia over here, the version with the Miller cycle engine. Well in Canada at least, don't know about the US. It's a very good looking car IMO. Loved my MX-6 LS with the 2.5 V6, really fun car, I bet this one is too. Problems with Mazdas in the north here is they rust A LOT, with our winters they get scrapped way before the mechanics actually go bad.
This car in usa was called a Millenia S. It had the same supercharged 2.3 but made a few less hp here. Only 210 hp and 210 ftlb of torque. And what he said about the miller cycle being efficent is true because our version got 28 us mpg which is really good for a 6 cylinder car with a 4 speed in the early 2000s. 210 ftlb in that sedan would also be properly quick off the line. And yes usa got the supercharged one but as far as i know only for a few years
Apparently this was called the Eunos 800 in Australia. There is currently 1 on carsales and they want 15k AUD (£7.5k) for it. I think you lads got a great deal!
In canada, i was about to buy one of these for my first car. It was a s model with the 2.3 miller cycle engine. I loved the smooth ride and acceleration but halfway through the cel started flashing and that scared me off of it. I did end up with a 2001 626 with the 2.5 v6 and 5spd manual a few yrs later. It served me well for a few yrs!!! EDIT: Please change the timing belt if it hasn't been done!
as a mazda geek and fan, I am about to buy one of these, a 2002 facelifted one, oh god how amazing it is to see another miller still on the road. be careful with the car since these engines like to drink oil through the supercharger seals and if you do not notice that and fix it on time its game over cuz they spin rod bearings like an f11 530D without oil... other than that if you can hear some slight tapping in the engine its most likely old oil, bad oil or low oil driving and that means your valve lifters are gonna knock
Sold as the Mazda Millenia in the USA. We didn’t get the supercharged version. I think I would pronounce it as exodus not that weird hard E and mid-syllable accent you were using.
We actually did get the 2.3L stateside, marketed as the Millenia S, but despite them being sold here until the end in 2002, like in the UK, you never see them on the roads anymore. In fact in my search to find one just for the fun of it, I came across one example for sale and it was the 2.5L model. :( Thoroughly enjoyed the video though and that's a wicked awesome find! That and the MX-3 with its 1.8L V6 are 2 of the quirkiest cars that came out of Mazda at that time. Well that and the 626 with its oscillating center vents lol. Mazda was a truly different breed of car in the 90's and 00's and they weren't afraid to try pretty much anything. Hands down one of my favorite car brands of all time.
I had exactly this model for like 7 years. Only it was silver, not champagne. The comfort level for cruising around was off the charts, but it had this surprising power when you needed it (211 bhp). One special thing about it was the very low seating position in it, proper sports car low, yet super, super comfortable. And the suspension was like flying a 747 on clouds. Very unique car. I miss it sometimes.
From 2022's MOT: Do not drive until repaired (dangerous defects): Offside Rear Upper Suspension arm missing (5.3.3 (a) (ii)) Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories): all front and rear suspension badly corroded Rear Exhaust mounting defective (6.1.2 (a)) Someone replaced the suspension arm but didn't touch the rust! Looks like a typical Car Throttle purchase :D
This era of Mazda has always intrigued me, they wanted to go up-market and arguably had a lot going for them but for whatever reason it never worked out. Fast forward a couple decades to now and they're doing it all over again.
As I understand it they pulled back at the last moment and killed higher end projects to reduce costs as a response to Japan's bubble economy bursting. Keen to see if they manage to actually make the hybrid Cosmo 3R hinted at by their patent filings (could be an RX-9 but based on the current trend of new models being more upmarket luxury oriented, plus 3 rotor only ever being delivered in the Eunos Cosmo, I'd be betting on a Cosmo).
@@CrimsonEclipse5 Agreed, I really want to see the rotary hybrid GT coupe become real as well. As much as I love the MX5 it just isn't substantial enough for a halo car in this day in age, especially if they want to really project that pseudo luxury marque.
I remember seeing one of these when they were new here in Sydney, Australia around '97 or '98- never saw one ever again. Back in the day this was quite a posh car.
‘How many left’ is very far from accurate. I held an owners meeting for a certain motorcycle a few years ago, 3x the number of bikes turned up than was registered in the UK.
Maybe a week ago, I saw one xedos 9 on the roads of Lithuania and remembered that the last time I ever seen one was maybe 10 years ago. It is a funny coincidence that you post a video about a rare car being a xedos, just spot on.
I fulfilled this challenge with one of my dailies once. A 1985 Ford Grosvenor, then 30+ years old. I found it for sale at a car show literally walking distance from home. £1600, it used to be the mayor of Sheffield's car. One of less than 20 built, 2 left and the only one on the road (mine). Ironically, during my short ownership, the other one came up for sale but couldn't afford 2. Being a Mk2 Granada limousine, parts and support were quite easy considering it was unique on UK roads!
This is called the Millenia (Millenia S if supercharged) where I’m from. Sadly low sales numbers and costly breakdowns that eventually mechanically total them meant they ended up getting scrapped/parted out so there are pretty much nonexistent here 😢
My neighbors here in Seattle, WA used to have the American equivalent to this car, the Millenia S. Fantastic cars honestly! The S was the supercharged variant in the states (we did get them, to answer your point from 9:10 :P)
Oh, many memories with this car from the 90s. We had this car in Europe. I thought it was very beautiful when I was 14. And I still think this is very beautiful today. And just after a second looking at the video cover, before clicking it, I already new what car will be inside. The Xedos 9. Love this thing.
In Australia this was the Eunos 800M and aside from the millercycle it also had four wheel steer too. They also did an SP with different alloys and local tuned sports suspension. Rare but still pop up now and then
I had one of those in college. They were called millennia in the us. 200 horses in such a tiny car. It wasn’t super zippy, but it wasn’t slow. I was the only person I knew who had one. Not popular at all. Wasn’t the most aerodynamic. I remember getting pushed side to side with every cross wind
My dad had a Xedos 6. It was exceptionally refined for a mid-90s junior executive car. He had the V6 which was a lovely engine, although I can't imagine putting up with a car that size and having the 1.6. Although beware if you take it out at night as the headlights were terrible. Hopefully bulbs have improved in the last 20 years.
It's just so weird seeing this on your channel. Yeah, we had here in America as the Mazda Millennia, and I always thought it was very American looking for a Japanese car. It was on par with the Chevy Impala from the same era. Anyways, there were quite a few Mazda Millennias in my home town.
I remember growing up my dad tried xedos 6 and i rode in the back. Salesman deliberately left the engine running and we had no idea it was that quiet. Balanced a coin on the engine and it didnt fall over. Liked it. Nearly bought onem We went for BMW in the end. This would certainly have been more unique.
It looks like someone said "I'll design something to look like a saucy Jag" and then died half way designing it so they just filled in the blank spots with typical American 90's saloon cars shapes.
Bit of trivia about the Xedos - both the 6 and the 9 are the two models that made it to production of Mazda's scrapped "Amati" luxury brand from the early 90's. I think the largest planned Amati, the flagship with a V12, never made it to production. That's why the Xedos is strangely luxurious for a Mazda at the time.
Here in Australia 🇦🇺 they were called Eunos. The larger spaceship looking 929 were very popular here as well. The car you bought was an absolute nick for 1000 pounds, I wish it was mine tbh.
My dad bought a Xedos 6 in 1997, at the time it was quicker and more advanced than the same generation of S-Class. He travelled from Silsden to Birmingham in 56 minutes doing over 100 on the motorway, fantastic cars.
Just a small correction: Mazda's Lexus equivalent division was not Xedos. It was the stillborn Amati, which came very close to getting off the ground but sadly failed. The Millenia/Xedos 9/Eunos 800 was to be sold as the Amati 500 had Amati succeeded.
This is one extremely special car and it really does deserve to be treated right with a little bit of TLC and a few quid spent on it PLEASE PLEASE DON'T WRECK IT 20:20
got my green `98 Xedos 9 outside in the drive way, curently around 360.000km and going strong, i have had do weld up one rusthole on the enginemount on the right side of the car, i found it while changing the timingbelt on it, hard to see without taking the mount itself of the struttower (the hole was in the struttower) also painted the innside of my headlights and running on 19" wheels for now. looking for some 18"with a nice edge :)
Car Throttle, do us a favor. Advance that Miler cycle engines intake cams by one tooth (or more), and remap. In theory, you will have a real race Otto cycle engine in your hands. Just don't forget to use the highest octane fuel you can get.

I did end up with a 2001 626 with the 2.5 v6 and 5spd manual a few yrs later. It served me well for a few yrs!!!
EDIT: Please change the timing belt if it hasn't been done!
Those 2.5 V6s were a sweet little engine.
as a mazda geek and fan, I am about to buy one of these, a 2002 facelifted one, oh god how amazing it is to see another miller still on the road. be careful with the car since these engines like to drink oil through the supercharger seals and if you do not notice that and fix it on time its game over cuz they spin rod bearings like an f11 530D without oil... other than that if you can hear some slight tapping in the engine its most likely old oil, bad oil or low oil driving and that means your valve lifters are gonna knock
Keep it and take it to The Festival Of The Unexceptional next year. Its defiantly worthy of being shown there.
I really hope they keep this car, forgotten cars like this need some time in the spotlight
Gutted that Jack didn’t say “Choppy Choppy”
In the US the Mazda is called the Millenia S. I owned one, very interesting car. Very comfortable. I loved mine until the supercharger went out
Pronounced Zedos,no K involved :)
Sold as the Mazda Millenia in the USA. We didn’t get the supercharged version. I think I would pronounce it as exodus not that weird hard E and mid-syllable accent you were using.
I just wanna see Will and Edwin do a roadtrip together. I feel like theyve got the same goofy energy.
We actually did get the 2.3L stateside, marketed as the Millenia S, but despite them being sold here until the end in 2002, like in the UK, you never see them on the roads anymore.
In fact in my search to find one just for the fun of it, I came across one example for sale and it was the 2.5L model. :(
Thoroughly enjoyed the video though and that's a wicked awesome find!
This is a cool car, deserves to be treated well, and Edwin's car knowledge is mighty impressive
Now I know what BeamNG's Ibishu Pessima is based upon
From 2022's MOT:
Do not drive until repaired (dangerous defects):
Offside Rear Upper Suspension arm missing (5.3.3 (a) (ii))
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
all front and rear suspension badly corroded
Rear Exhaust mounting defective (6.1.2 (a))
Someone replaced the suspension arm but didn't touch the rust!
“How do I look?”
“You look great honey”
😂😂😂😂
Hoping we will be seeing more of the 924
I remember seeing one of these when they were new here in Sydney, Australia around '97 or '98- never saw one ever again. Back in the day this was quite a posh car.
‘How many left’ is very far from accurate.
I held an owners meeting for a certain motorcycle a few years ago, 3x the number of bikes turned up than was registered in the UK.
then either they werent owners or its not on the road, thats how it works
Nah it's not the numbers on that site are often miles out
@@Kcii-99 Nope. The website is very, very wrong
Really like Edwin hope he takes Alex’s role, trio was the best format for this channel and he fills the void that’s been clearly missing
Edwin has so much knowledge about cars and mechanically he can fix a car himself unlike Alex who relies on gareth or Taylor
Maybe a week ago, I saw one xedos 9 on the roads of Lithuania and remembered that the last time I ever seen one was maybe 10 years ago. It is a funny coincidence that you post a video about a rare car being a xedos, just spot on.
This vid single-handedly appreciate the car value😂😂
If there were ever an ultimate HubNut Japanese luxury car, this is it.
I'm so glad Edwin is part of the channel now he's actually hilarious.
Would look good with some nice wheels on it to be honest.
This is called the Millenia (Millenia S if supercharged) where I’m from. Sadly low sales numbers and costly breakdowns that eventually mechanically total them meant they ended up getting scrapped/parted out so there are pretty much nonexistent here 😢
Notification SQUAD!!!🔥🔥🔥
My neighbors here in Seattle, WA used to have the American equivalent to this car, the Millenia S. Fantastic cars honestly! The S was the supercharged variant in the states (we did get them, to answer your point from 9:10 :P)
Edwin is a bloody legend. CT2.0 here we go!
Rare but still pop up now and then
Main thing I took away from this video is that Jack has a new saab!!!
I know of many Xedos 9's that were parted out for the 2.5 V6, can be swapped into an MX-3! the 2.3 miller is something super unique indeed!
In uk, ULEZ is destroying all the beautiful and amazing cars. I would love to own a classic car. This is part of history I’m not gonna lie!
I don't think we have this car in the US unless a collector has one put away somewhere or even a rebranded version.
A video with where all the old ct cars would be great and what cars you guys still drive and own!
This Video Was Quite Executive 👌
Good chemistry in this one 😁
That e36 is clean
19:12 Ethan grabbing Callum’s arm…then realising!!! 😂
I've seen alot of Xedos 9s in the junkyards here, they are call Millenia S's here in the USA.
It looks like someone said "I'll design something to look like a saucy Jag" and then died half way designing it so they just filled in the blank spots with typical American 90's saloon cars shapes.
I think I'm seeing double with both Will's in the front seats.
What a beautiful vehicle. Lovely video lads, please keep this thing around, just in background shots or something so we know it's still ok.
Amazing how different we are here in Australia to the UK. You're more inclined to find a supercharged model than you are the NA model 😅
This is one extremely special car and it really does deserve to be treated right with a little bit of TLC and a few quid spent on it PLEASE PLEASE DON'T WRECK IT 20:20
So nice to see the boys driving a Mazda again. What a rare find 🙂
got my green `98 Xedos 9 outside in the drive way, curently around 360.000km and going strong, i have had do weld up one rusthole on the enginemount on the right side of the car, i found it while changing the timingbelt on it, hard to see without taking the mount itself of the struttower (the hole was in the struttower)
also painted the innside of my headlights and running on 19" wheels for now. looking for some 18"with a nice edge :)
Car Throttle, do us a favor. Advance that Miler cycle engines intake cams by one tooth (or more), and remap. In theory, you will have a real race Otto cycle engine in your hands. Just don't forget to use the highest octane fuel you can get.
Great buy lads, The reg is a old Country Tyrone N.I plate worth £400-£800
I always thought it was pronounced “zeedoss” not ca-seedoss 🤷🏻♂️ really cool car. Hopefully it gets saved.
you're right, they pronounce it wrong :-)
