Censorship for M games should still happen since AO exists but these things just shouldn't have been censored.
They don't meet the necessary intensity to trigger the censorship for the age rating. It was all due to Sony's sensibilities.
For example Last of Us 2 should have triggered the game raters with the on screen in your face railing scene.
And so it should have been threatened with an AO rating if it wasn't removed. And this isn't really censorship since game devs could just choose to go AO and keep everything.
Same for GTAV for its PC only paparazzi quest where similar on screen railing occurs.

And importantly, actually showcase/explain pros or cons. You can “read” about a delay issue, but that doesn’t really convey the information clearly like showing a video of yourself does. It takes little time but makes a huge difference. Same with comparing specific elements to other games (either from both games or just the one reviewed).
Essentially, even if modern reviews weren’t biased towards publishers/ideology, they’d still be worthless. Those 5-10min reviews are about as descriptive as the back-of-box synopsis or a launch day trailer.

This is just me, so it's not like the game has to cater to me, but, I wish eve was a little more athletic rather than looking like she's filled with oil, and I hope there's a game out there that just goes all out like ninja gaiden 2004 instead of doing the souls like thing or gears of war thing, those types of game styles are wayyy too stiff for a hack and slash, and I'm tired of it.

I haven't tested this myself but hopefully it works. Apparently you can start new game plus uncensored. You beat the game and then update it to start new game plus. After that you go to a camp and save your game then quit out delete the game and reinstall the game without the patch and supposedly you'll have the outfits uncensored.
Did just that. I also canceled PS plus subscribtion. Screw Sony and their censorship.

Back in the 90s to late 2000, we used to get attractive female characters with interesting personality like Lara Croft, Liara, Tifa, Yuna, Jill Valentine and so on. This strikes me of the kind of games that regularly released when I was growing up in the 90s/00s, back when games were developed in a year or less by 20 to 50-man teams. These games would come out, some of us would buy them or rent them, have a bit of fun, then forget about the game. This was before the modern gamer hype cycle, where every major game release is presented as a huge event. Stellar Blade comes across to me as just a workmanlike game that never deserved as much attention as it has received.
7:12 I discovered the Synthetic Man last summer, while I was playing Final Fantasy XVI and looking to see if other people were as disappointed in it as I was. I was staying in a hotel and I bought a PS5 to play FF16 on the hotel room TV. It was a surprisingly decent TV, but it had image processing features that introduced a similar about of delay as Stellar Blade's delay on blocking, about 250ms. The TV's settings were locked down, so I couldn't disable the features to reduce the delay. Somehow, I got used to it and was able to play FF16, but the delay was too much for me to play the Dark Souls clone, Mortal Shell.

Well tbh the only argument you need against the censorship is the example of baldur's gate 3 (like you mentioned earlier). They allow that shit to fly but not this? Where the character doesnt even get naked? Little strange to me.

I'm willing to believe that the game is good because Korea already proved themselves with Lies of P. The only Souls-like that managed to recapture that beautiful and melancholic feeling of Dark Souls 1 on top of having great gameplay. Makes me think that they are the future of gaming while Japan is stagnating.

Tales of Vesperia actually has a pretty interesting " blatant fanservice" character named Judith. She's aware of how she looks/dresses and plays into it, as well as having a personality outside of it. Also one of the most fun and complex characters to play in the game, and arguably even the whole series.

Games have always been art. What modern game movies have tried to do is make them cinematic which doesn’t make something art.

wydm, Ninja Gaiden 2 is art, you paint the walls w/ the enemies blood w/ all the limbs and heads you cut off.
Games as art isn't bad nor does it mean it can't be lowbrow if its being made as art.
Maitetsu for example had full on orchestras for its soundtrask, eye meltingly high quality background and character art, and a super detailed autistic level of train related knowledge.
And yet it still had high levels of full on coomer antics.
And by full on I mean fully animated high res sprites that put Nekopara to shame.
Not only was it far far more artsy than Nekopara (which wasn't at all) it was also 10 times more coomer quality without straying away into grossness.

Listen carefully to what he said in the intro. It's a Souls-LITE, not Souls-like. As in, it has some elements of a Souls game, but not enough to where it's practically a clone. A Souls-like would be the newer Lords of the Fallen game, Mortal Shell, or Lies of P (which is more like Bloodborne, but you get the idea).

@@ExtremeMan10 Ninja Gaiden is the best of them all. Well 2 and 3RE (imo). 1 was good but to replay it not so much, not a fan of hub worlds or puzzles in action games. Not enough enemies. Plus that swimming level not fun. Just want to play as a badass stoic character in linear levels w/ survival arenas filled w/ several enemies relentlessly trying to kill you, rock and metal in the background, and a nonsensical story.
Synth hates playing good games unless they're old platformers though

A dodge with invincibility frames is not something the Souls series started, it's just a basic action game thing.
Same thing with perfect parries (or perfect blocks).
I don't think the point was that Souls INVENTED it but that it's a major, key component of Souls-like combat.

Yeah I like the game as well 7.5/10 just don’t like that they patched out the blood splattering all over the character.
(I would recommend guys or girls wait for it to be on sale for $40 or $30 before buying it and if you buy it don’t patch the game because it will censor the blood out over her body)
So hopefully they don’t censor that in the sequel, give us more enemy variety, give her more of a personality, different blades/animation for them and actually use the real models face for the main characters face because it’s way better than the face we got in the game imo.

I agree on the critique of Eve's appearance a bit and her rather bland personality, they should've had Tachy as a playable character or as a cosmetic skin costume for Eve (although they can still do that through DLC and a special edition of Stellar Blade)

As someone who likes Souls Likes i do like that this game doesn't try to be super difficult. If you go back and play Darks Souls 1 and Demon's Souls, then you'll realize that these games are pretty easy compared to the later games. In later games and especially in games which aren't made by Fromsoft, they made them so hard so they appeal to the "Git Gud" crowd who like to bash their heads against one boss for many hours and made the difficulty go into bs territory instead of having a fair but tough challenge, thats not the reason why i love these games. In Elden Ring while i hade to dodge crazy areal attacks and quick chain attacks from certain bosses (Malenia for example, biggest piss take from From ever) constantly pressing B i thought "why didn't they just make an action game if the want to make one so much". There is a limit how hard these games can get and the harder they make them to provide a challenge for "fans" who are familiar with the mechanics then the more bs and unfair they become aka not fun.
Agreed. In Demon's souls rolling took a significant amount of stamina, so the game didn't force you to roll 5 times in a row to dodge a combo with perfect tracking. Because that would drain your entire stamina bar. Even the few relatively big combos(usually 3 attacks max) could be avoided with 1 roll, as long as you positioned yourself properly. The best way to avoid was usually to take a step back and let the enemy hit nothing but air, and then attack while the enemy recovers before backing away to get your stamina back. But with Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring, rolling started taking almost no stamina, like in Bloodborne, despite the fact that the gameplay formula of Dark Souls was designed for slower combat. The worst thing are the delayed attacks that have long range AND perfect tracking so you can't get behind the enemy and punish it, nor can you take a step back to avoid it. And how some bosses instantly jump 10 feet away after their finish a combo so you can't get a hit in.
I hope they bring back the higher stamina costs for rolling and add more openings/blind spots to the bosses' attacks in their next game. And if they do a good job at this, they should also bring back boss runbacks instead of putting bonfires before most boss rooms. This would make the game much more punishing, but moderately difficult, like Dark Souls 1 and Demon's Souls.
Great review, Synthetic Man. Considering how this is their first console game, I think Shift Up has a lot of potential to keep improving. Assuming they take in the actual criticism and feedback from the fans and work to address them for a potential sequel, then I think they can solidify themselves in being one of the few good AAA developers.

I'm a black person and honestly thought the Hard R graphic reaction was overblown. It's a Korean studio that likely knows little about that sort of thing. Didn't even know Crimer was a slur though so that's pretty ironic. Altogether I really wanna see this game do well to send a message to the lefty puritanical tourists. All about the petition to remove that censorship. A tool not only to exert control but also used to force everyone to conform to the tastes of the most sensitive.

Hard R isn't a slur either. It's allegedly a bizare way to REFERENCE a slur. And it was a coincidence that it even happened; a randomly thrown up graphic happened to be placed near another, separate graphic. This is literally no different than religious housewives going over magazines with magnifying glasses to find tiny, vaguely-phallic shapes to complain about.

It's very likely a timed exclusive as it was initially in development for a simultaneous PC release. Also, sony has been porting a lot of their games to PC not too long after releasing their games on their exclusive hardware this generation, so you can fully expect it to show up in a year or two.

@@matt.random8473 Yeah I've just stuck with my PC and a switch this generation because xbox games have been getting simultaneous released on PC since 2016 and ps4 and 5 games have been consistently getting ported over after a few years.
Also, hardly any games worth getting these days in general, let alone ones that are timed ps5 exculsives. What's the only true exclusive so far? The Demon's Souls remake? I still have the original on PS3 which if I wanted I could play at very high frame rates using an emulator these days. Sure, it's nowhere as good graphically, but the original arguably has better atmosphere, better gameplay, a better soundtrack and is free of some of the race swapping the remake did.
Lastly, the console is too darn large and kind of ugly looking. It's even taller than my not-so-small SFF case. I'm usually not one to care how a machine looks since when I play games I tend to stare deeply into my TV screen, but dang it if the PS5 isn't an odd-looking machine.
I recommend saving your money and putting it toward other things in life. Chances are, four hundred bucks or whatever the console goes for these days on the used market can be used for things that are way more fun and/or fulfilling.

Part about music sounding like NieR- apparently like half of the soundtrack was composed by Keiichi Okabe, composer or NieR so it kinda makes sense
Don't know where this missinformation is coming from but Okabe had nothing to do with this game, it instead has two other composers from his music studio on the soundtrack along with some from Shift Up, the two composers have composed for NieR games though non the less.
Agreed on the bland look for the MC. She doesn't look that interesting beyond having her assets on display. Still, I'll gladly take any game that makes their female character look like actual women instead of the soulless abominations in western games nowadays. Gameplay looks fun enough, I could see myself getting it if/when it comes out for PC.
I'm actually more interested in this game hearing that it's not as much of a Souls-like as it appears.
Souls-like combat is the least immersive thing possible. You stop seeing the enemies as actual monsters, and instead you just see animation frames and button inputs, then figure out how the developers programmed them to work and which patterns they coded in, and use that to press the buttons at the right animation frames to win.
I'd much prefer combat from games like NieR:Automata, Zelda BOTW/TOTK, Metal Gear Rising: Revengence, and so on.
