I find it Hilarious that when you kill an NPC that is sitting, that same NPC need to stand up because it NEED to be out of sitting animation before dying
You couldn't kill sitting NPCs in Mass Effect either... if you turned friendly fire on with a console command. Which the game waa not designed for. And it works AS WELL as Starfield.

They're essential to quests that don't really matter to the story. Plus they could be killed and replaced with another npc who will serve the same purpose but that doesn't happen either.

Normies and leftards are the loudest and sometimes most influential in the entertainment business. This is what you get when you tolerate those imbeciles.
Dev teams are like sports teams. They are only as good as the people currently are working in the team. Anyone who saw the Starfield direct and saw the people who work at Bethesda today should be able to know what to expect from the game. Today the people who work there are the soyboys and the dyed hair feminists so of course its super woke.
Bingo. All companies are just a group of people. If a bunch of those people move on, the company is no longer the same. On that note, Todd needs to retire. He has no clue what he's doing.
What Todd tried to do it in Stafield, Bioware have achieved with Mass Effect, more than a decade ago... The tech isn't inovative, the story is bland and boring, Bethesda rpg elements, as much folks like it are being replaced by emergent gameplay in other games, in other words is, outdated. NMS despite the broken launch already born a better game than Starfield, and today is something way better than when it was launched.
It's funny that New Vegas, a decade old game, developed in a rushed schedule - managed to avoid the immortal essential NPC crap for the vast majority of its important characters
You can kill anybody in New Vegas, you can even kill Yes Man. He does come back, but there’s actually logical reasons why he can keep coming back. He’s a computer program and can load himself into any securitron.
Yup - two things. First, you need passion. Big studios just don't have it. When your team is super passionate, they will work hard on making their vision work. Baldur's Gate 3 is proof of that. Elden Ring is proof of that. At the end of the day, you need people behind the game that really care about it. Second, great writers are hard to get and are super underappreciated, something that is becoming more and more obvious looking at the AAA gaming industry.
You could feel the love the developers had for Skyrim. It’s why I still play it, to this day. BGS has really lost its way, hopefully they get back on track for TESVI and FO5.
@@robotron1236 Nope, they won't. Skyrim was already a massive downgrade in terms of RPG mechanics compared to previous iterations. Ever since then, their games have gotten more and more simplified. Fallout 4/76 and now Starfield are all first person looter shooters with perk systems that are replacing any and all meaningful RPG mechanics from the past, and that's all Bethesda can churn out now.
Skyrim had better NPC interaction and immersiveness. Guards would warn you about shouting or having a weapon drawn, NPCs would pick up and even fight over an object you dropped. In Starfield they do nothing. You can fire a gun all around them and they stare blankly at you. Did Bethesda forget how to program in the last 12 years? Freelancer, a 20 year old game, did interstellar and planet-planet travel (jump gates and trade lanes) way better than fast travel ping ponging all over the galaxy. And don't get me started on how lazy and simplistic obtaining powers is in Starfield vs shouts in Skyrim. Yet fanboys still defend this utter disrespect and disdain that Bethesda has for them.
Starfield is like a microcosm of what all modern big games are like. Every big game feels bland, inoffensive, tasteless, soulless. Nowadays I simply play older games, smaller niche games and some indies. My brain naturally filters out all the AAA gaming media and 'reviewers' by now because I just know nothing out there is worth it and the vast majority of it is shills getting paid to deceive you (sometimes they aren't even getting paid, they are too psychologically attached to their favorite companies which might be worse). It's depressing.
I am the same way. I think the last major AAA game I bought was Red Dead 2, and before that was GTA 5. Everything else is smaller stuff. Why tf would I play games like Starfield when I have Warhammer40k Darktide?
It's definitely the latter. It's obvious that the intelligence of consumers and just the public in general has taken a sharp dive over the past few years. The customer dictates the market in any field and naturally this is going to carry over into the gaming scene. You can see the results. The bar is now extremely low, and there is little to no quality control because people have no standards. The inability to accept that something you like is now trash, even when presented with some of the most crystal clear, in your face evidence possible is 100% an intelligence issue. I can pick apart just about anything I enjoy. That's called being rational. Most people are mentally conditioned npcs now and because of this it will only get worse.
I dunno about inoffensive, this game is unsettling and almost demonic in its conceptualization of the future, this is rancid slop and Todd was a mistake. I hope if this is what space flight looks like 'humanity' never leaves this rock, they don't deserve to skinwalk actual humans in space.
@@OrgusDin ikr? This feels like the universe was hand crafted for the meta commentary. Literally if we just had some NPCs questioning the slob, it could've fixed everything. Imagine an NPC just asking you the player "Wtf is going on in those cities? New Atlantis feels so sanitized, so... inhuman. It's like they're robots" the game would've worked if some NPCs and factions actually commented on sorry state of their universe but nope 😢
It looks so fucking goofy. Why every game nowdays has to look life a Fortnite ripoff. I guess the beta males game designers and nerd wannabe females are trying to make it look realistic, but instead, the shit turns out to be an oversaturated trash that tries to appeal to the younger generation.
Crazy thing is imagine what the game would have been like if they released it when Todd thought it was good to go. Pretty sure Todd told Microsoft that it was ready to launch back in like 2021.
Cause Fallout NV was done by the team that worked on the original Fallout 1 and 2. Sadly Todd/Bethesda never got the idea behind the fallout universe. I mean cmon, just look at Fallout 4, People living with skeletons and corpses in their homes, nothing cleaned up. As if the nukes bombed away everything including the idea of cleaning.
Starfield feels like it was explicitly designed around the mantra "modders will do it later". See those vast wastelands that encompass 95% of the game? Modders will fill all that space out later. Bare-bones, copy-pasted quests? Modders will flesh them out later. Meaningless factions? Modders. Basic QoL options? Modders. This entire game is Bethesda throwing their hands up in the air and admitting that anyone with a lick of talent or vision at the company left years ago and that the people on payroll now are less competent than Moe Modder who does their job better than them in his spare time.
@@gdl9362Cyberpunk fanboys were dumb enough to fall for modding just because they can “date” fictional characters. Modding ruins games more than it helps them.
Imagine a far off future where everybody looks normal when in modern times we already have extreme body modification. It's so lazy. Hell, nearly all sentient races in Fallout are technically human so it's not like it's unprecedented.
This is the game where Bethesda writers truly gave up. They didn't even bother this time around. There are questlines in Starfield that make Skyrim's Theives Guild look good by comparison. Everything is just dull and lazy.
Yeah, when you compare it unique quests in Oblivion like the painted world one that was just a random sidequest you can stumble across you can see how much less creative they've become.
Ugh Theives Guild was always my favorite guild and they are such a bunch of losers in Skyrim. But the Nightingale armor is badass. Feel like Batman in it
Why is it that all these modern games have the most terrifying human faces? It's like a nightmare. Stop making eyelids that retract all the way behind the eyeball.
@@Immopimmo It is pretty easy to write something when you know everything that the character can do and say. It is a single player game where you play as a Witcher called Geralt of Rivia; it isn't an RPG. As a writer, you don't have to take any other consideration into play other than that. Nothing the player does affects the world; you're basically writing a novel or a film the player is witnessing, rather than participating in. An open, empty world. Huts, all empty; caves all empty with maybe a bit of water in them. Ruined castles, all empty. The problem with a big open world, even an empty one, is that it uses resources. When you want to take the player to a whole new area, with new assets, enemies and have it full of loot; you need loading screens. Otherwise, you're left with the empty world of The Witcher 3 and Read Dead Redemption 2, where everything is just background and empty save for an occasional container or drawer.
2016's No Man's Sky let you take a walk on a planet, board your ship, go out of atmosphere and deep in the space, reenter the atmosphere of another planet, land on it, all without a single loading screen. I've watched like 40 different videos that dunk on starfield to quench my disapointment with this game and modern gaming in general, but feels like I can still watch like 100 more of them.
Starfield story felt so freaking obnoxious, no high stakes, no dark humour, no dark outcomes... Its just happy people doing happy things for the greater good of the multiverse.
Yep, everyone is a goodie two-shoes, and when you go to be a “bad guy” by joining the Crimson Fleet, it’s just a snarky ghey gurl boss who’s annoyingly sarcastic; and mean spirited. And after you beat the Crimson Fleet side missions, the Fleet intersects with other missions where they’re supposed to be the enemy, but since they’re your allies they don’t see you as an enemy.
These people are the definition of simulacra in their writing. All their experiences are derived from media and not real life. The knowledge base being reddit and marvel movies.

the "essential characters" thing is really abused in Starfield. Its like when the DM basically says that an NPC is going to flip on you, and when you and the party retaliate and try to kill him, the DM says: "no, no guys please, he's gonna important, you can't kill him." Hell, the NPC doesn't even have to be antagonistic, the DM just wants you to basically not kill anyone that is named. I hate it.
Right out the gate when the NPCs asked me what happened when I touched the artifact I said I don't remember anything then then the Barrett dude ask me if I saw anything I said no and then proceeded to tell me I had to go see people to help me understand the visions and music I saw and heard. I LITERALLY SAID I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING!
Yeah.... that's a writing problem. He has no reason to know what you saw, because you refused to tell him. If you aren't going to support a choice, don't lie to the player and give it to them!
57:25 is where he shows a couple good examples that player choice doesn't matter. They literally imply that you can kill them with dialogue, but the game won't let you. Bethesda doesn't care about giving the player choice, but rather making sure you see their set pieces. Essential NPCs are obviously pandering to idiots, but having NPCs be essential just so the game can have you kill them later is egregiously asinine.
@@Mirthful_MidoriEssential NPCs are "good" in the sense that the mechanic protects your savefile from fucking up due to other random factors (like NPCs getting stuck taking damage and eventually dying, etc). But why can't they make it so that player damage doesnt care about an NPC being essential? Or more importantly, why are these bugs that the essential mechanic protects you from still in the game at all after so many iterations of games exactly like this? Does Bethesda just not know how to write villains? Truly, of all the disappointments Synth mentions, this is the biggest one for me. These villains are... awful. Like, pathetically bad. Pirates that don't loot and plunder? Gangsters that don't break the law? "I was alive the whole time and orchestrating everything from prison" with no effort to explain how any of that was possible? Space slug diabolus ex machina? Can Bethesda just not write a compelling villain? One with gravitas? One who exploits human weakness for personal gain? One with a motivation more complex than "the good guys say he's bad, so he's bad?" This is writing I would expect from amateurs. Not a big video game publisher with hundreds of millions of dollars of budget.
Liberals think they are the heroes, but we all know their actual villains they put their logic as to what a hero should be into the game. Which is why the "heroes" are so villainanis.

I'd argue it is never good. When you go to another country it should be for the people living there, for the food, for the culture. If its all the same, why go there? You can cut off the burned parts and say "Hey, I still enjoyed my meal" and there's nothing wrong with that but if you then say "10/10 meal - absolutely perfect", it tells the chef that what they are doing is acceptable and leads to more of the same. There are lots of people out there who love Bethesda RPGs but think Starfield sucks. WIth ES6 coming next, that means some will want their voices to be heard so we don't get more of the same next time. I think that's partly why there's so much argument over this game - the more people claiming Starfield is brilliant, the more likely it is that ES6 will be very similar and for some, that would be a disaster.
I can't comment on the game, don't own it. After FO4 and 76, won't buy a Beth game until I read reviews. FO4's success was based on fans that loved FO3 and FONV. Like Synthetic Man, I was so excited when it was announced. Turned out to be a big disappointment. Is it greed? Don't care about the fans of their games? How they treated their fans with 76 was shameful. It's like Bethesda sold out and money is the prime objective, selling the same shit under a different name and package.

Nah, you can unload entire mags into the ground at an NPC's feet, leading the path they're walking and they'll just keep blindly walking towards you and might say "hey cut it out" or something like that. This is true for all Bethesda Fallout games. Always found that funny how combined with the fact that their guns are nonsensically designed and work by sheer magic (quite literally in Fallout 4 and Starfields case) it really does make it seem like Bethesda employees come from a different universe where firearms don't exist but they've had the vague concept explained to them.
@@trentn1127Programmatically, there's a world of difference between "firing near someone" and "flagging someone". Firing near someone could be an attempt to hit an enemy - how would YOU program an AI to check?
@@KopperNeoman Similarly aiming a gun at an NPC causes no reaction. To answer your question measure between point of impact to actor, if actor is in combat (which would happen any time there was ever a hostile NPC that they wouldn't mind you shooting close enough to almost it them) if does nothing, if not, then wiithin X units trigger hostility. Just about every other game with passive NPC's and firearms seems to manage it just fine, actually triggering npc response based on aiming at them is much more finnicky and prone to issues hence why in FO4 for example you then have the extra step of activating the actor for the intimidation perks because the game registers if you're aiming at them but doesn't register if the actor knows they're being aimed at
Gotta love how they had to destroy Earth in the story because Todd and his team couldn't render cities bigger than a couple of buildings. So just the entire planet on a wasteland.

Right? Given the state it's in, it would've been embarrassing had they released on time last November, but at this point it's just shameful. They had almost an extra year (which many devs would kill for) and still seemingly forgot to finesse or even finish whole areas of it. I sure hope Todd doesn't actually consider this his magnum opus, because overall it's a passable product at the very most, not something to retire and sleep comfortably having done it, if you can even call it finished. I'd already been managing my expectations, but SF is keeping the bar verrry low for TES6/F5.

Most of the time I am doing that as well, but BG3 for instance was pretty enjoyable, even though it has too much woke agenda in it.
I dunno about inoffensive, this game is unsettling and almost demonic in its conceptualization of the future, this is rancid slop and Todd was a mistake. I hope if this is what space flight looks like 'humanity' never leaves this rock, they don't deserve to skinwalk actual humans in space.

Bare-bones, copy-pasted quests? Modders will flesh them out later. Meaningless factions? Modders. Basic QoL options? Modders.

the "essential characters" thing is really abused in Starfield.
I hate it.
You speak from experience
Thankfully, console commands are the same as Skyrim. So, we set then to nonessential.
But what if i identify as a frog ? What is my pronoun ?
Bethesda is racist !! They didn't include me into their diversity !!
@ZoomerStasi lol nice reference
@ZoomerStasi Nah, BG3 gives you plenty of opportunities to break the usual flow and be violent with people, especially if you choose Dark Urge.
You didn’t THINk you saw anything. That’s what happened.
@@Mirthful_MidoriEssential NPCs are "good" in the sense that the mechanic protects your savefile from fucking up due to other random factors (like NPCs getting stuck taking damage and eventually dying, etc).
You are not allowed to write a good villain because they would necessarily become a compelling indictment of your deranged agenda, which is way too fragile to endure that.

I get 5 new Quests when running around doing one Quest. I don't know how I got the Quests. I don't know who the Quests are from. I have no connection to them. - Finding Quests is a Nightmare. They need to be Structured much better. Time when Quest received/Location of Quest Giver/Nearby Quests/Location of Quest/Radiant Quest... - Still can't go from Sneak to normal Mode whilst doing any other action / meaning Stealth play feels Crap. Sneak to someone with a Melee Weapon, hit them 1 time, wait for Animation to finish, press "Crouch" Key, wait for your Character to stand up, engage in Comabt. 1995... 19 F*cking 95!!! - I have been playing the Game for 50 hours now and am Level 25 and I still find the same Fire Axe I found on Level 3 over and over 21 DMG - When on the Map Screen, there has to be a Warning that you can not travel at this moment - I am SEETHING because I activated a Mission but the Game decided to not show me that Mission at all, but two other Missions I do not want to do - I decided to do one of the Missions to see what happens... I now have FOUR Map markers. WTF! And I am not allowed to activate even two Missions - Buy Back Disabled as soon as you leave Shopping Window -

And plasma weapons kill them in a matter a moments. Even on survival. It's just too easy.
And you know Fallout 4 is too black and white with it's story. The factions are too on the rails. Other Fallout games tend to have the player manipulate the factions more somehow. You're just bitching about bitching. Maybe there's good reason people bitch in the first place. You ddin't consider why. You didn't mention context. When you go to another country it should be for the people living there, for the food, for the culture.
If its all the same, why go there? I see no reason to visit places far abroad that are completely similar to the place I am living at. For that I can stay in my own country.
And I don't understand how American companies can't understand that themselves. They always say "oh LA is so different to NY its like another world"
But it never reflects in their products they ship internationally.
This game would be better if they made humans of various planets more exotic. I would given humans various features related to genetic modification and prosthetics to make up for the fact that there aren't any aliens.
Starfield is peak globo homogenous, the ultimate melting pot, the convergence point where all cultures and etnicities became one.
Globalism wants that for us.
You make it sound like I wouldn't prefer to never see anything but my own people and culture or something. "Boring" more like a coherent safe society with nearly all of its problems absent.

It's interesting what you say about discrimination being an important factor. That's one of the elements that makes Morrowind so intriguing. To think Todd dared telling people to actually upgrade their PC ? Has he no shame at all ? He made not only a poorly optimized PC game that doesn't even have precombined feature which is the basic of basics of Creation Engine optimization, he says this game pushes the boundries in technology ? Where you can't even explore a planet with bounderies ? Where you can't fly your own ship inside planets ? So much innovative tech indeed...
No he doesn't. During the FO76 presentation he called players degenerates. And the audience applauded and cheered not realizing it was them he was referring to. Bethesda fans are some of the stupidest amoebas on the face of this planet.
It's the worst game yet for me. I had a RX 6700 XT but it went bust so I had to go back to my old trusted 1070. But I had like 20 fps with everything on low. Not even Cyberbust 2077 was that bad with the 1070, got 45-55.

Right?
I can play armored core just fine with my old pc lol
Loads of sheeple will still defend their daddy Todd Howard so no matter what shit he gives them , they will devour it like it's gold
To the people who defend this game I feel sorry for you. You deserve more than whatever starfield is.
Why? If people are having a good time (obviously alot of people), isnt that what games are for? The performance is clearly inconsistent across certain rigs, but cloud gaming is excellent.
Either enjoy the game or refund it, like any other media.
It's a bit like going to a really expensive restaurant and having a world-famous chef give you burned food.
Maybe it is what they deserve...
People still hang onto those shitty ips like Sonic or Bethesda trying to salvage things and hoping for a brighter future, it’s depressing
I can't comment on the game, don't own it. After FO4 and 76, won't buy a Beth game until I read reviews. There was a time, I think most would agree, all Bethesda had to do was announce a game and we couldn't wait for them to take our money. You buy a game based on the companies past history and those older games, over time, are getting replace with shallow watered down games that aren't very appealing.
If this isn't a complete dismantling of a game I don't know what is. Remember that this game got DOZENS of 10/10's from the press.

Starfield is what you get from continuously lowering the average IQ of a dev team over the course of two decades.
And the customer
And being a diversity ridden team.
Not just collectively lowering the IQ of society (much of which is accomplished via replacing the original members of a society or encouraging them to breed with invasive species), it's also disallowing anything other than safe topics socially. Even in Fallout 3, pointing your gun in the face of a lowly NPC would piss them off and they might attack you 😅
Nah, you can unload entire mags into the ground at an NPC's feet, leading the path they're walking and they'll just keep blindly walking towards you and might say "hey cut it out" or something like that.

Similarly aiming a gun at an NPC causes no reaction.

Ah, a similar budget ratio to Final Fantasy XV.
Honestly the NPCs look like primitive AI models to me. Like they were generated by AI and the humans all went: “We’ll adjust them later.” Until suddenly it was launch day and they just let it ride.
