1/4 cup olive oil 1 tablespoon rice vinegar 1 tablespoon soy sauce 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil 1/2 teaspoon sugar 1 teaspoon minced ginger 1 small clove garlic, minced Pinch Kosher salt A few grinds black pepper (I blended all this together with my immersion blender - very fast, very effective, no knife work needed) I just made this tonight because I needed an asian style dressing for a chicken salad. This is a great recipe - a very solid baseline dressing that's infinitely tweakable. I wanted mine spicy so I added a Tbs of sriracha and a tsp of chile flakes 🔥👌, I also snuck in a little fish sauce to adjust the salt and add bonus umami, and a few tsp of hoisin because... flavor. Turned out awesome. Great work, old school Sam.
i made this by subbing honey for the sugar and adding sriracha, chili flakes and lemon juice to your recipe. yummmm!! will try with fish sauce or worcestershire next time!
An Asian friend of mine gave me this recipe except she used it to dip dumplings in, minus the olive oil, Asian dumplings and she also cut up some green onion and a little cilantro. Plus you dont have to put sugar in it either because the ginger gives it a nice flavor. Then I later learned that the Asian people use this for pretty much all kinds of dishes.
I've literally been making this with 4 beans, coleslaw and Oakleaf lettuce everyday I eat it for lunch at work everyday for the last year I'm still not sick of it. Try it before you judge the combination!
i had some amazing Thai dressing in Chiang Dao... it's a small town, and the one restaurant that was open was out of chicken and pork and fish, so they just served us a salad with an amazing vinaigrette/ dressing and some sticky rice... it was pretty awesome been trying to recreate that dressing ever since...gonna see if this gets close
I have a similar recipe that a local Thai Restaurant uses, they have finely chopped garlic and NOT ginger. They use a light vegetable oil instead of Olive oil because olive oil is just too strong. They use a dark sesame oil instead of just regular sesame dressing. They have a lot of black pepper, so see what you like. Also, rice vinegar OR white vinegar can work too and check out different brands of soy sauce. Obviously change things around to see which version you like the most.
The Thai Restaurant I go to uses mixed greens with cherry tomatoes, thin slices of cucumber, thin strips of carrots, and they through some mint leaves in and to me, the mint leaves is a great burst of flavor to the rest of it. They also had char broiled pounded chicken breast that's been marinated in a Thai marinade. I also use Sambal Oelek chili/garlic sauce from Huy Fong, it's great. I can't eat enough of it. Oh, and some cold Soba noodles. Can't forget those..
i usually add too much sesame oil. thanks for the recipe......and did you know you can peel ginger with the edge of a spoon? much safer, with less waste
Olive oil in Asian dressings? I much prefer something less powerful, maybe avocado oil, so that the other dressings ingredients are not overshadowed by olive oil. Also what's the point of your camera man in the video. You just told him to "back up, back up!" Not very pleasant.
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon minced ginger
1 small clove garlic, minced
Pinch Kosher salt
A few grinds black pepper

Randomly was looking for an asian dressing and found this. Tried it right away and loved it! Thnx.
Nice. I use white pepper instead of black pepper, sesame seeds and Masago... Delicious!
Sandi S. Lewis - Spence what's the diff in taste between white and black pepper ?
@@jenmay460 I feel like white pepper is milder than black pepper. Good for people who don't really like to taste black pepper in their meal.
This one has to go viral! This recipe is so good! Literally on anything.
Looks delicious! As usual. Do you ever put fresh garlic into this dressing, or leave it as it is? thank you
Thank you, that was simple, useful and I will be doing it today for my family's salad.

And did it?
It’s so much better when you chop up and add a couple pieces candied ginger.
Just made it and saving recipe thanks😋
I love the tile backsplash!
I love your Greek salad dressing too gonna give this a whirl.
I can sit and watch him chop ginger ALL DAY LONG, it was so relaxing.
That sounds great and I'll make it. Butbill finely grate the ginger
I chop, grate, mash and blender my ginger. It's all good.
Made it and it’s really good and simple. Thanks.
You’re awesome! One advice for you and those watching your vid, ginger can be finely grated (to where you can use only the juice extracted). ✌🏽
Ty
I used honey instead of sugar. I like it a lot😊
SAM, use the garlic press for the ginger. Tip from a mom cook
Making this today for lunch!
We love knife skills!

Was the garlic supposed to be in it?
I made this dressing and it's the most delicious dressing I've ever made thanks to this recipe!
Just made this (by spitballing and not measuring) and its pretty solid.
Another great recipe, Sam.
Maybe next time grate the ginger, buuddy-lol.

Sam, I have never seen chopped ginger!! Tell him to chill camera boy!!!
Yum
Nice proportions.
better assemble all that you need within reach., ie grabbing measuring spoons, pepper towel etc
What can I use to replace the sugar

Did I miss the garlic?
Sorry Sam but most asain dressings don't have olive oil, looks more like a vinaigrette 😂😅 italanio. 😊
couldn't find the recipe..
You don't use OLIVE OIL in asian food.
Anyone What kind of soy he used ? Is it like the sushi soy or no?
its called House Wife Soy Sauce. I had to look it up since I wanted to know as well.

Touch grass
Wow lot of wasted ginger
I stopped watching when I heard olive oil. Ridiculous. Not used in Asian cooking.
Wow, an ad baked into the video itself. I haven't seen that yet. Glad that went nowhere.
