I did it in front of my mom 10 years ago back when the video came out. I remember her looking at me weird and saying its crazy and makes no difference, later on she bought a salad spinner and now she loves it!
Salads have always been a mystery to me. Now I need to eat more vegetables for health reasons. I actually bought books of salad recipes! However, I ended up casting them aside as some of the ingredients were very exotic and hard to get. This video was what I needed. Simple ingredients and clear instructions. Now I can make my own variations and very cheaply. Thanks Jamie.
Watching this video a couple years ago started me making my own dressing with olive oil, vinegar, a little balsamic vinegar, and jam. Adding the jam means my son eats up his salad. Big thanks, Jamie.
Wait,, jam??! 😂Wow. That's about the last thing I'd add in there, surely even honey goes better as a honey-mustard salad for something a bit 'sweeter'?
This is my first tine actually watching Jamie Oliver . I thought he was very cute, enthusiastic and passionate about steering people (including children) towards a better life so supported him. Now, I see a first glimpse into his greatness...with this simplicity and goodness . Grateful I took the time while unable to sleep that I "stumbled" upon the deservedly famous, Jamie Oliver.
Hi Marian :) it's really nice to see like-minded people - in the sense, when sleeping is a problem, watching cooking videos really help :) hope you are able to sleep better these days! Happy New Year - all best wishes for 2019!
Oh my goodness! Love listening to this guy! I’m hooked! Excited to become a master of salads and dressings! “Wave it around like a nutcase” “salads aren’t for Nancy’s” and “Herbs are the rock n’ roll of salads”... I wish I could take classes from this guy on cooking everything! I’m 53, been a workaholic all my life and my health is paying the price so now I’m excited to learn how to cook and makes salads daily and Jamie ROCKS!
This video is perfect for me! I am suffering from psoriasis and am only permitted to eat specific foods - mainly leafy vegetables. I have made salads before but could not enjoy them because they were wet and bland without good dressing. I learned here that you can make a good looking dressing from scratch that doesn't conflict with my strict diet. Great information!
andrea I'm following the John Pagano diet, but I'm a little too loose with it. Basically, you may eat anything other than fried foods, red meats, refined sugars, and processed foods. Stay focused on veggies (mainly green leafy ones) and everything should start healing up (but after several months...) Very hard depending on your current eating habits, but well worth it. I'm still fighting to go through everything.
Dude, I make that same dressing, but it's cool to use Famous "Durkee's" sauce instead of Dijon as it contains a bit of Anchovy paste - super flavor, and doesn't taste exclusively like a "Cesar" salad dressing, but has that nice punch...Peace out.
Jamie you are such an excellent teacher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am 56 years old and I still learn something from ALL YOUR VIDEOS I have watched! To me you are a diamond in the rough. Thanks for all you have done and will do! I loved the tv shows you had in the past about school lunches and teaching families how to cook good healthy meals! LOVE ME SOME JAMIE.....
This is the video i have been looking for. Straight forward. Thank you Jamie. This is the dressing we use in Lebanon for our Tabbouli.. Cooks all over the world are inventing new Tabbouli dressings but the simple Lebanese daily homemade Tabbouli is just lemon juice, olive oil, and salt. and YES... always add some more acid! Brilliant
Here is a little tip: When you are squezing a lemon by hand, try to do a 'thumbs down' gesture. All the juice will pour down to where your thumb is pointed. I felt bad for that lemon, and had to write this :) By the way, that's some really juicy lemon, incredible!
I love the kitchen. The top shelves are low enough to use without a ladder. The bottom are pull out. Clean look. I love the peel slices in a salad. Great ideas.
Best video ever of Jamies! I've finally got it down---taking a salad to work everyday. A mixture of vegetables keeps in the refrig for the week (red pepper, carrots, cabbage, herbs, onions), as does the dressing, and cold cooked meat. In the a.m. add lettuce, vegetables, meat, dressing, toss, then ad nuts, pop plastic into the cooler to take to work. Yummy!
JAMIE OLIVER, You're the best!!!I love to watch you cook. Simple, to the point, no nonsense CHEF. Keep the love of simple cooking moving right along!!! Sincerely A Texas Home Cook 👍❤👍
I agree. I buy whole heads of kale and romaine lettuce and prep myself. By accident and out of necessity, I put together my own vegetable washer/storer which works quite efficiently. I always keep my own mix vinaigrette and use a 3/2/1 measure, oil/balsamic/water. I spice at will, directly into the salad before adding vinaigrette. Then toss thoroughly and it comes together beautifully. I vary my cheese but prefer feta. In my book, "Everything's betta with feta!" CHEERS!!! 🤓👍🏻
That really depends on the lemon. If you are on vacation in Spain or Italy and go to a lemon tree somewhere in the countryside you easily get this amount of lemon juice. If you go to the supermarket next door you probably need 4 lemons to do the trick. And the smell and taste is just as different.
so I have to say that I thought I was going to be watching a vlog on how to make a good salad dressing but this was much much more maybe the best information on learning the basics of salad dressings 101.. Jamie you nailed it for me really.. and opened my eyes on how to get my dressings to taste great... thank you... L./A Rob
Mr. Oliver I am so happy to find you on UA-cam I quit watching television several years ago and probably only two or three of your cookbooks thank you so much for bringing life to my salad rubbish skills.
Jamie, I just opened your 5 Ingredients book from the library. The fact that you display ALL the nutritional information, including protein and sugar, is much appreciated! Most cookbooks do not bother to give this info. I'm very excited about trying many of the recipes and plan on buying to book soon. Thank you!
Thank you Jamie. I love your recipes as the flavours and tastes are always amazing. Your variations in making the dressings are so simple. Love J O recipes, hints and tips.
I made this salad week for myself. Everyday I run of one vegetable and replaced it with something else. Everyday I tryed different dressing. Once I added chicken, another day cheese, etc. It was very good practise, and interesting transmutation from coleslaw at monday to something entirely else on sunday. Salads are underestimated.
Great basic recipe! I personally like adding onions, garlic, different herbs, honey, marmelade, orange juice or chicken brew and of course vary oil, vinegar and mustards. There are countless combinations possible! Also, rasped carots added to the salad are very good as they lose some of it's sweet juices that mix together with the dressing - wonderful!
Thank you very much, Jamie. I was just looking for a really heathy salad dressing for my salad and your dressing just made it for me. God bless you and more grace to you!

After so many years, certainly your salad recipe still rocks. Just made one ‘improvised’ from your suggestions of the dressing. Delicious, amazing taste!
My approach is equal parts oil and vinegar to a third part spring water to reduce the acidity, still very satisfying to the palate and much lighter than a 3-to-1 oil vinaigrette. You can always top your salad with a bit of extra EVOO at the end.🤫
Thank you Jamie! I've become so bored with my salads lately and am looking for some new ideas. You nailed it for me! I'm going to make me a HUGE salad!.....I'm a new sub now needless to say.
My heart was so happy when I saw you mixing your dressing salad by hand, is just the cultural way we always had done back home in Syria.
