So I’m aware this is a bit of detour from my usual topics, but with college football being in full swing at the moment i figured I’d invest some time into detailing the rich history behind America’s #1 source of alcoholism. This is part one of two, covering college football’s roots to the mid 1900’s, I hope y’all enjoy!

2:22 ORIGINS
6:23 THE VICTORS
19:03 FIELDS OF CHANGE

CORRECTIONS -
While technically not a correction it should be stated that throughout the video I use modern logos/mascots to represent teams, even during eras where said logo or mascot was not used. This is primarily to avoid confusion and provide consistency throughout the video.
(4:48)Technically not untrue, but Harvard’s reintegration into the rest of New England football was more of a compromise on both sides than Harvard caving, with this compromise being responsible for much of the rugby elements present within football
(17:22)Alabama was not the first southern team to gain a national title. LSU gained one in 1908 and Georgia Tech gained one in 1917. - Спорт
new jersey is not in new england
Go gators!
This is what I was hoping to find
Word. Rutgers Vs Princeton November 6th, 1869🤔🤷🏾♂️😂
And Michigan is definitely NOT the Mid-West..!!
Algorithm did you dirty man
Lol I'm a Mizzou fan and when he mentioned that his favorite team was Florida, all I could do was shake my damm head 😂
Wqwwwwwwwwwqwqqqqwqq
@@DwayneIsKing Go Tigers 🐯
dude just found this channel, your videos kick ass!!
we’re all waiting for part 2 👀
Stumbled across this channel and now this video and I can’t believe it hasn’t blown up yet. Can’t wait for part 2
Great video but I’m surprised John Heisman wasn’t at all mentioned
Right? Like how the hell do you gloss over such a huge part of the game?
Or General Neyland, Wallace Wade etc. Lots of coaches not mentioned.
@@PallahDaOracle
Knute fucking Rockne got glazed over even though he brought up Notre Dame being one of the top teams of the 20s-40s LMAO
Still liked the video though.
@@BromanderInChief yeah he is good.
waited a bit to watch this to let UA-cam allow higher resolution, im not the most into football let alone sports but things like secret base will still catch my eye. this falls into that category; watching someone who knows what they're talking about talk about it with clean editing. another banger upload, even if a little unexpected to see a video like this on here. good job!
So that’s where the algorithm sent it? It’s alot of football fans in these here comments talking about how they stumbled across it and how did they miss this.
How is this channel not bigger!! Top notch content dude, keep it coming!
You know the video is good when it starts with Gran turismo music
Well done! It's worth noting that Nebraska was the first team to employ a strength coach and after only a couple years of official strength training won back to back national titles causing every other team to follow suit.
Incredible video, hyped for part 2! CFB is such a romantic sport, I'm glad so many others see it in that respect, Go Irish!!!
Absolutely loved this video, the editing, the humor, the information, all awesome! Definitely have a new fan
Even the briefest college football history should contain at least a mention of Knute Rockne.
He kept saying that the planes region wasn’t that good at football until Oklahoma in the 50s. He didn’t mention that Nebraska was actually quite good in the early 1900s and they were even offered to play in the first ever Rose Bowl. They were also the only team to beat Notre Dame’s four horsemen (twice).
This video was amazing! Please make a part 2 if you have the resources, this was a great watch
dude, excellent work. I can't wait to watch pt 2
Supposedly, Bear Bryant scheduled that game against USC to prove to the board of trustees, alumni and general public that in order to be successful, they needed to integrate. I don't know if it's true or not but I'm 100% positive that he didn't really care about skin color. The only thing he cared about was winning. If that meant integration then that's what had to happen. If the opposite had been true and segregation was called for, he'd probably go that route as well. I guess we'll never really know.
One of the most amazing stories are the 1899 Sewanee road trip.
Love this video!!! Can't wait for part 2. Keep it up and this channel will explode
1. Princeton and Rutgers aren’t in New England.
2. Y-oh-st not Y-ah-st.
3. The US Naval Academy is in MD not NY.
Great video! Loved the deep dive into history here, very well put together.
Boss, you did a fantastic job on researching and proving clips, news articles, standings, pictures, & film which when you talking about late 1800’s that really impressive just to see a picture or a dash of film. Cannot wait for part 2!
I lived in New England for well…. too many years. I’ve been on the campus of Princeton in New Jersey. You’ve got to be fucking kidding me if you think saying Princeton is in New England (twice) is a “fantastic job on researching”.
If he can’t get the easy little things correct, I’m going to say he can’t get the big things correct.
@@chrisconley8583 take it easy buddy, no one’s perfect. You’re also going at me who didn’t make the video. 🤣 get off the internet for awhile.
@@lionhearted7450 fuck you, nothing you typed proved me wrong. So take your fake moral superiority and shove it up your ass.
Unless you can prove Princeton NJ is in New England (as stated twice) go fuck off.
Great video, although I was hoping for more about John Heisman at Georgia Tech (who won a southern title in 1917 before Alabama) and Bear Bryant at Alabama, who won three national titles in the 60s
Amazing video man. It’s a real shame the algorithm hasn’t pushed you enough yet, your channel is an absolute gem, keep up the great vids man.
One of the best UA-cam videos I’ve ever seen.. part 2 please
I love this channel, and I'd love a part 2!
Hopefully this video is now getting the exposure it deserves. Good stuff my man👍
What a great video! Hope you make the part two!!!
Perfect video to be randomly suggested when im looking for something to watch before bed
@ 5:22 Michigan. Love the uniforms. Very reminiscent of penitentiary attire 🤣
Surprised this doesn’t have more views, great stuff
I love this channel. Thanks for your hard work
Great video! I wanted to add that you mentioned the south not winning a national championship before Alabama in 1925, but in 1919 Texas A&M went 10-0 and did not allow a single point during the season outscoring opponents 275-0. I know in 1919 there was no contemporaneous system for determining a national champion, but they were named co champion along with Harvard and Notre Dame retroactively with the Billingsley Report in the late 1960’s.
So glad the algorithm found me to you. You deserve more eyes on this quality
awesome! Can't wait for part 2
Video idea: History of the Triple Option in College Football
Very good job on the section that discusses the integration of college football!! Thank you for making this educational video. Also, nice background music :)
Even as someone interested in gridiron's early history I learned a lot, particularly about Michigan's dominance around the turn of the century.
I had heard Fielding Yost as a major early name but TIL what he was known for
Clicked off the video and saw you only have 4k SUBS?!?!? Crazy good video I hope this hits more peoples pages dude
People don’t understand tom osborne really revolutionized the football program GBR!!
Great video, really enjoyed it especially as a Michigan fan lol. Would love to see some more history videos on Michigan if you’d be willing, for example I believe Michigan should have 14 National Titles with their unclaimed 1973 and 1985 seasons you could make a serious argument they deserve to at least split with Notre Dame and OSU in 73 and Oklahoma in 85.
This video deserves more views that what it has. Excellent video dude
This content is amazing bro just subbed
I watched this whole vid thinking this was from someone with at least 100k subs only to realize this vid had only 7k views. Keep it up man this is awesome
man great video. I love the history of football. I use to read all the football books when I was young. Heck I should have been a coach because all those books I read.
Cfb paired with grand turismo music is a match made in heaven
Great video! I know next to nothing about football and always wanted a rundown
It’s sad how much sports pushed for racial integration and equality is ignored today. As a white guy who grew up in Mississippi, I personally have known older white men who admitted it was playing/following sports that helped them overcome that old school programming pushed on them that white and black people weren’t equal. Playing high school football and winning a game because of the amazing black athlete on their team or their favorite team winning a championship or other important game because of a great black player on the team.
May seem small and non-important, but in all actuality all major change starts small, and sports were one of those small things that sowed the seeds of the idea of racial equality.
It may be just a game, but that game has influence on society, and thankfully it had a positive influence on ours.
This is a great video, deserves much more love
This video is great! It deserves more views!
As a huge college football fan! This was a fantastic video I loved it! Thank you!
Such a great video, this will blow up eventually
Gta 3 theme was a nice touch
I’m fucking screaming. Undefeated 1899 sewanne tigers only team to score on them was the Auburn tigers led by John Heisman. 6 road games in 7 days 6 shut outs. Played LSU and Tulane on the same day and still won. Only 11 players on the entire team in 1899!!!!!!!
yea this might be the one that blows you up
Amazing vid. Needs more attention!!
Bro this was great and as an FSU fan you literally just built me up to watch part 2 and I don’t see it! I need a part 2
I expected this vid to be something that would help a small channel blow up its a shame it hasn’t this is great content
Gran Turismo music goes hard
Great video, can’t believe it wasn’t in my feed before.
That song at 9:00 took me back to being 6 yrs old starting up Gran Turismo 4 on the PS2🤣💯💯
Great job. I'm a football historian like you. I love this stuff.
Awesome and informative video. I learned a lot. Thank you!
fantastic video bro keep it up
As a Texas fan, this was borderline unwatchable. As a college football fan, great video! Can't wait for part 2
Very good work. Keep it up boss 👍
Lafayette College in Easton Pa and Lehigh University in Bethlehem Pa have the most played college football rivalry with 159 consecutive rivalry games played since 1884
Great video man
Ballsy to do this after the success of your gaming videos. I don't watch football, but you kept the material engaging and I learned a lot about the sport. Thanks!
As a Mizzou fan, I'm sorry about that Florida game 😭 y'all gave me a heart attack though. But anyways, great ass video my brotha 💪🏿
You have Princeton going in the wrong direction in the first football game. You had them going towards Rutgers in New Brunswick instead of away towards princeton.
Any video about the History of College Football should start with something about Boise State AKA America's Team
When’s part 2??
Such a great video
this is really good
I feel like Kronk from "Emperor's New Groove" is talking to me right now.
Wow I know I’m a year late but the amount of views you get is criminal compared to the production quality, absolutely fantastic work man
I'm an Alabama fan, but it brings me so much joy to see their poop get pushed in by USC in that one game.
Can’t believe you didn’t talk about the 1899 sewanee tigers
Very impressive.
Algorithm has picked you up now chief. Took a while
Good stuff. I hope this helps with the algorithm!
What happened to your other football videos? It says you have 7 hidden from your playlist. I’d love to see them your sports videos are so good!
this is so good
Losing to Chicago cost Michigan a championship in 1905, but you didn't mention that Yale was undefeated too [the victory over Princeton was the only win that wasn't a shutout].
this needs more views
Great vid
I didn't recall the mentioning of Carlisle, the infamous 'Indian College'... and Jim Thorpe. Very Strong Teams..!!
if you’re looking for the carlisle indians you might wanna check out my san francisco video
We need pt.2
Thank you
19:05 I've heard this song befoee from the radio in New Vegas
Need a vid on the modern era now that saban has left
Great video man, even though you are a Gators fan! Go Vols 🍊!
_"Michigan would see its first undefeated streak...from 1883 to 1888."_
That's interesting, because my alma mater, Wesleyan University in Connecticut, beat Michigan 14-6 on November 19, 1883 in Hartford, Connecticut. It was the only time the two teams ever met.
I meant that the streak started in the 83' season and continued to 88', not that they went undefeated in either season
@@empire1800 I get that, I'm saying November 19 is pretty late in the season. So we must have been one of the last teams, maybe even the last team, to beat them before their streak started.
Edit: I searched the Michigan website and it looks like Michigan (1-0) toured the East from Nov. 19-29, 1883 for four games. Finished season 2-3.
L Wesleyan 6-14
L Yale 0-46
L Harvard 0-3
W Stevens Institute of Technology 17-5
A 12/1/1883 _Michigan Argonaut_ article about the trip complains of "manifest unfairness of many of the referees[sic] decisions" in the Wesleyan and Harvard games.
Great video
In talking about Nebraska and Oklahoma you missed a perfect opportunity to mention how Frank Kush’s Arizona State Sun Devils beat Nebraska in the ‘75 Fiesta Bowl that lead to their rival Oklahoma being crowned national champions. The ASU teams of the 70s-90s were formidable
the people need part 2
part 2 would be much appreciated
I hope this is a series. It has to be, right?
Plz keep grinding out content bro. Your channel is fucking and trust me there’s a bunch of dudes who like knowing crazy amounts of stuff about this football shit. U keep making shit like this and more of us will find u
Ouch a Florida fan, At least you had the Tebow years.
