These are great tips! Sometimes I get caught up in the physical how-to's but this had a lot of great mentality of why we block and tip #4 about timing > height is a perfect example of that!
Hello! I am a middle blocker for my team, and I am wondering do you have any tips on timing? Like when do you jump or like how do you know where to go? And also, how do you react so quickly to the spikers?
I could go on a whole rant about it, but I'll just stick to the basics. For block timing, ideally, you want to be to reach your peak as soon as the spiker makes contact with the ball. This ensures that your arms are covering the maximum area possible. But because of the various factors that you need to account for, block timing becomes an esitmation you make after observing and assessing the individual spikers timing, form and preference. Learning how to time your block is a skill you build with experience, but a good general rule of thumb for any blocker is to jump just slightly after the spiker has jumped. As for knowing where the ball is going, it all comes to experience again. Being able to discern attack patterns and setter preferences is a skill you earn. Try to take note of the setter's stance before they set, anything from differences in how they ready their arms to how intensely they bends their knees. Then correlate that behaviour with whatever set comes next. Now you know whenever he repeats that behaviour, the set will most likely go in that direction. Take note that good setters will be have little tell-tale signs, in that case you'll have to rely on attack patterns and probability. With reaction time, it's just about staying mentally fit and capable. So get good sleep and eat good food.
That’s not easy task😀 but you should jump always a bit later, so attacker won’t see your block and you will have higher chance to touch his attack or even block him👍
In any case, the ideal time to reach your maximum blocking height is when the spiker makes contact with the ball to ensure that you're covering the maximum area possible. Because you'll most likely be shorter than the spiker, it's actually a better idea to jump just a little bit earlier to reach your peak height faster than they do, Since they have the advantage of being taller, they can reach their maximum vertical much faster. The consequence of this however is that all of your blocks must be commit blocks, there is absolutely no room for uncertainty. Being even a fraction of a second too late can be just enough time for the spiker to spike it over your hands as you're coming up. But all of this only applies if you can actually match the spiker vertical jump height despite the height difference, if you can't it may be a better idea to just let the taller front players take the block and instead just fall back in case of a feint.
That’s not easy change. I had similar issues sometimes😀 Anyway, start with some simple blocking exercise, even without ball, and remember to keep your head up and open eyes👍
That kind of confidence stuff comes with experience. Once you find a spiker that hits harder than anything you've ever felt, anything less than that won't be as scary. Just keep playing and the courage will come naturally.
One of my friends who is 5 foot 4 blocked a guy who is 6 foot 4, one of the most impressive things I've seen in our volleyball games, I have no idea how she did it though, probably got the timing spot on
Thank you for these 5 block tips. Now I will practice in my volleyball league this weekend 🏐
Great👍
The content is good! Now you just need to upgrade your mic quality, it makes the video hard to follow.
Turn on subtitles
Honestly it seems like the mic itself is fine, this issue is the reverb you’re hearing because that’s probably not a sound treated room.

This is good idea👍 I will think more about video for middle blockers😀
@@VolleyCountrycom Looking forward to the video! :D
Jump when the spiker jumps. Hat way you are at your peak when the spiker is at his. If you are shorter than the spiker, jump a tiny bit later.

Do you have any tips for a 158cm players when it comes to blocking, besides increasing vertical jump?
Maybe getting more of a run up, i dont know :P

Timing is the most important
I’m 170 cm but I jump low so I just get VERY low and time my block helps me jump higher and let the ball to hit my hands right after they hit

Any tips of how to get rid of your fear when blocking like i always close my eyes every time i block😐

Yes, you have to be smarter, wait with your block. Also have strategy on block. I will make a video about these tips😀

You are right. We need a lot of practical examples (which you can find in my other videos😀), but we need also theory. Anyway, thanks for comment👍
