No. No it doesn't...Starfield vs the dev team of No Man's Sky dev team proves that. A lot of companies have terrible work ethics..How could an indie team with literally a 90% deficit beat a multi billion dollar dev team?? Work ethic..most game companies are the definition of lazy and cringe
@@adamkondracki3201 I mean to be as respectful as possible with my comment. The fact that some teams put more effort than others doesn't mean that they didn't put the effort into making a good game. If you were to do a homework assignment and put ALL of your effort into it, but didn't follow the instructions of said assignment, you're gonna flunk. It is stupid to compare a billion dollar project with millions of supporters and developers to an individual person with no external funds and no community. As the consumers we judge a game based on its playability and fun factor, and the sad truth is that it is very hard to get that without some grey ethical conducts. NO ONE is going to buy a game out of pity, and if they are, its not gonna be every so often. The game awards is a way to spotlight AAA games that are praised by the community and are not hot steaming dumps of garbage, and in a controversial way, awards AAA games that are fun, and they get marketing for this, others see this and do the same, restarting the loop of AAA games on top. Altho it is possible for indie games to be extremely popular, its a rare sight to behold. This is all from my point of view tho, so if you have a counterstatement, i would be honored to hear it.
@@adamkondracki3201true, like imagine 200millions of dollar investment ,250 devs, thousands of ppl work on the game and none of them can get the facial emotion + face focus direction done ... The 2013 tomb raider did a better job 10 years ago :v
"here are the nominees, which one is your favorite?" "Tears of the Kingdom" "ok, ill cast your vote for TotK then" "no, dude, i'll vote for BG3 because i think it'll win" "😐"
I'm a massive Zelda fan and grew up with the franchise, but let's just say that BG3 has made me really invested in the Game Awards for the first time. I was there when BOTW won in 2017, but this year is way different. I think one of BG3's strengths is that it brought so many new people to the genre; poeple who've never played a TTRPG, never played a CRPG, etc. are picking it up and becoming fans of the genre.
Like I said in a previous comment I haven’t been able to play bg3 yet but lm hyped to when I can based on what I’ve seen on it. I’ve seen many comments disagreeing with wood but as he also said any of those games deserve game of the year on their own right they just all happen to be in the same year. I agree with what you are saying too I’ve seeing many online talking about how they didn’t think they would get in bg3 but watched reviews and gave it a shot and got hooked on it. Even a close friend of mine who is really not into games like the older balders gate and hasn’t played this yet thinks it deserves game of the year over Zelda and we are both huge Zelda fans.
@@thiagocarneiro2794 Alan Wake 2 is pretty darn good, but BG3 is crazy good for what it offers. It has that mix of quality, freedom, replayability, & even Co-op. 99% of modern games lack even 3 of those, it's pretty crazy
I really wish sea of stars wins, but it’s probably not going to happen. Baldur’s gate 3 still looks dope though. I’m probably just going to vote for totk.
@@thiagocarneiro2794 Not really. I tire of hearing this when the fact is that there are still AAA games out there that do release completed these days and are high quality and do not use microtransactions. Baldur's Gate 3 might be a good game overall but it is actually a horrible sequel. The second game had a better story and far superior writing and that game is 23 years old. Those things mean more than the biggest modern differences in BG3 where it CRPGs are concerned. I haven't played Alan Wake 2 but I have heard amazing things. Of the ones I have played Tears of The Kingdom really should win. But Baldur's Gate 3 will most likely win because of how these things usually go.
One thing I really dislike about GOTY is how nasty people get. Its so annoying how people think fans are "wrong" or there is some big conspiracy whenever their games don't win awards. Its also weird how people hate on the Oscars and Grammy's and the culture around it (rightfully so), but give gamer awards a pass.
Yes Spiderman & Zelda fans have been extremely obnoxious this year about not winning GOTY. As if the game awards personally hates them when in reality it’s just really hard for a direct sequel to win GOTY when it does what everyone expects of it, that’s not to say predictably is bad because both games had great formulas & added enough to feel fresh but BG3 came out of nowhere for the majority of gamers who didn’t play the Divinity games.
@@gpolenikDon't type as if you understand remotely what you're talking about, Google Nexon Co, LTD and look into that "small team with a low budget" for yourself.
I agree with most of these takes--- but gotta say, I know that FFXVI got a mixed reception but Ben Starr as Clive Rosfield was literally some of the best voice acting I've seen in gaming. He KILLED it in that role. Every line was just so emotionally delivered and it really helped me get into the story
Yeah Neil really nailed it, I enjoyed Bens talents though. Although British/English voice actors in games have really been killing it through the years.
Any other year, I'd have given it to Ben, hands down. His acting carried that game. But the fact that Neil was able to keep a consistent energy across (what had to be) tens of thousands of lines is just a marvel. I'd argue that Amelia Tyler deserved it more, but Astarion just has too much of a fanbase. But Ben is a clear and easy 2nd place, no questions asked.
We have to remember that BDG3 came out and scared game devs and creators because it was so incredibly high quality and well written that they worried that if they didn’t match that quality they’d be left to rot so I really think BDG3 is an easy vote for this year
I think the actual thing they were freaking out about was that it was a complete AAA game that has no micro transactions, dlc, and isn't live service all for 60 bucks.
@@wildbard4112 Not as much as BG3. In terms of fanfare, BG3 attracted way more attention than TotK did and for good reason. I know you're a Zelda fanboy (I saw your other comments on this page) and that's fine. TotK is a great game and it might win GOTY. But if we're being honest, TotK being good is to be expected. BG3 on the other hand, shocked the entire gaming community and introduced many people not used to playing CRPGs to trying it out.
People will hate Zelda just because it’s popular. Tears of the kingdom is a masterpiece and people saying it’s not just to be “quirky” and “unique pisses me off to the highest degree.
No? People just like other games. Zelda definitely is a great game, but there is stiff competition. Is it possible for people to "hate on" Zelda because they just don't like it? The people you are talking about are a small minority.
ive heard its gay like u have destrutible item mechanics to inflate the game back in the day u got a mask used it like once then just looked at it in ur menu
I’ve beaten every Zelda game Nintendo acknowledges (The 20 mainline games). My GotY this year is Lies of P, for sure. Zelda was good but man it just was not THAT good. Breath of the Wild WAS that good back in 2017. It earned its win. Tears of the Kingdom is not anywhere near as groundbreaking.
I was like eh BG3, not my type of game. A friend gifted it to me, 120 hours in and I am still not close to being done. By far THE best RPG I have ever played. It is so amazing I can't put into words how much joy that game has brought me 🥰
@@clanpsi act 3 wasn't as good as act 1 and 2, but it wasn't complete and utter shtye as you put it, idk if you even played the game... cuz there's alot of good stuff in act 3 and now with patch 5's release lately and the epilogues the game is really amazing.
For years I played the first two Baldur's Gate games once a year; they are some of my fondest early teen memories. I'm so happy that the follow-up, so many years later, is not only a great game, but that it is being recognized as such.
meh doesn't look or feel like a baldur's gate game. Looks like the successor to divinity 2 since its the same developer. Also don't like the characters or the political agenda they infused into the game.
I really hope Dead Space Remake wins in audio design. Audio is often so little discussed in GOTY tearms and it really is 50% of the experience in my eyes (pun not intended). The game uses Binaural 3D recording and with good open headphones it's one of the most immersive experiences in gaming. Dynamic range is magnificent and mixing is a joy. It's really something folks. If you are getting it, make sure you jump on it with headphones.
Can't argue that. I'm going through it right now (haven't played it since Xbox 360 released it) and man the sound is insane with a headset. I honestly think it might have the best sound design of any game ive ever played, especially in this genre. They absolutely nailed it.
True, i remember playing the game and walking past a damaged ndustrial fan..the metalic screeching sounds that was coming from this thing brought such a hair raising experience. Really added to the atmosphere.
Interestingly, I thought TotK gameplay innovations such as ultra hand made it the best game of the year by a large margin (for me). It’s not without its flaws but it’s likely up there as one of my favourite games ever. I didn’t expect it at all with all the BOTW similarities. On the other side of the spectrum, Resident Evil 4 Remake was pure fun. Too many good games!
I mean, I agree. But am not sure how you 'did not expect it' where Breath was literally the most boring game ever: barely a Zelda game even. A glorified tech demo. *But* , they _did_ add a ton of stuff to it - wonderful , actual 'Zelda-ry' stuff. It's all I asked for: rich Lore, actual Dungeons for the 1st time since Skyward Sword!! What _really_ surprised me was the total transformation of some of Breath's most jarring characters: Yunobo was totally revamped from _the_ figure of my hatred to - a true brother-like figure he was always meant to be!!
@@netweed09Worst Zelda BOTW take of all time. One of the things Zelda does unlike other game franchises is grow and change some times it's not the greatest it's better than being stagnat and making the same game on a different console
@@netweed09It was not a boring zelda game, Breathe of the Wild went back to its original roots with the first game just done way better and your weapon breaks making you go find more. I have it on both WiiU & Switch and put over 250 hours on both before beating it

I uninstalled it after doing the 2nd D!vine Bland , still in shock that they _really_ did feel like dropping _4 identical_ insipid muddy blobs as ''bosses'' on Us!! Thankfully, Mr Aonuma took the heavy criticism on board and swiftly reinstated proper Dungeons back in Tears. Smart move!
@@netweed09I agree with you bro. Breath is a forgettable game. Very boring and the glass weapons that shatter make combat a chore. I sold it right after I beat it and I don’t regret it. I never purchased TOTK because how bad Breath was for me.
You'll know right away if Tears of the kingdom is game of the year because you'll see Aounuma in the crowd. If he's not there and it's just Doug Bowser as a representative, then you know TOTK lost.
@nathanaeldiegofariassantos4926 My logic was sound. Who would've thought Aounuma would show up to the awards all the way from Japan if TOTK didn't win game of the year.
@griffen8313 because of the rigging that they are doing, bg3 is nothing compared to what zelda totk can do, bg3 is the same turned based game that we already seen before with an improved visuals, while zelda totk new creative stuff was never seen before in gaming history ! Bg3 will end up limited to what zelda could do.
Baldur’s Gate is like one of the best games, for some odd reason. Also, people forgets that Neil Newbon is also the voice for Hesinberg in Resident Evil 8. In case people forget on which he voiced.
@@naimhussain6013 It is lmao, if you have Larian proved you don't need to be a AAA studio to make a good game. The game is wonderful and it looks gorgeous

I agree with you, I want Zelda to win, but I have a feeling Baldur's Gate will win most of the awards. I personally have not played Baldur's Gate, because it is not really my type of game.
Bg3 is not my type of game too. After watching many reviews, i think i finally give it a try. Blew me away at the first 10hours. Now im 40 hours in, the experience it gave is one of a kind, i think everyone should give it a try. Im enjoy totk more, but bg3 confirmed goty🥲
TotK does a lot of things right, and is probably the single biggest technological achievement of any game to come this you (maybe of all time, barring maybe some of the crazy things people pulled off with the more extreme limitations of the early console generations), but I can't say in good standing that it's the best overall video game of the year. BG3 easily earned it's crown this year with all the people that came off having a positive experience with it. If the Horizon games have to keep getting shot down with the need to compete under Zelda's shadow, TotK can accept its bad fortune to be sharing the year with BG3's release. There were a few too many shortcomings and missteps that sour the experience taking the game on its own merits and as a longtime Zelda fan. Especially the ones that should have been easily avoidable like the overly repetitive Imprisoning War Sage cutscenes (could have had each one depict a different aspect of things, or set an event flag to tell the next piece of the story depending on how many other Sages you already had) and the the less than ideal button mapping for using the Sage abilities. And why does there seem to be more King Gleeoks than separate elemental ones? All three in the sky are part of the same collection quest with the Sage's Wills, so it kinda ruins the mystique (there should have been a maximum of 3 King Gleeoks total and each part of a different quest type... man, just randomly occurred thought here: what if the Eventide King Gleeok was actually the leader of Pirates down on the island instead of hanging out alone in the sky? be like a classic dragon with minions gathering treasure for them D&D scenario). Like, many problems with the game are nitpicks (I'd argue some of the story issues are a bit more than that, though, Open World should not have to mean the plot suffers, especially in this day and age, especially when it's messed up even while you're not sequence breaking or anything, and furthermore since earlier games in the series even as far back as Majora's Mask, and even some of the 2D games, already did a better job at balancing main story to exploration freedom), but they really add up. Sorry for the ramble. Still a fantastic game with really sky high highs, just very frustrating in some of the lows. Obviously, BG3 would have some nitpicks, too, but they just don't mean as much to the game's overall presentation and reception. I've not actually even played it myself, my PC is like a decade old at this point, but I have to respect it all the same. Can always watch other people's playthrough for game awards candidates you haven't played yourself.
You are probably tired of reading this but you should really give it a try. I have so many friends who said they hated that kind of game and it looked boring. After I let them try the game out on my console they bought a PS5 just to play the game.
I agree it will be BG3 . Why? Because it brought people into its folds that had/would never play its genre. Also, the all around depth that has been missing from games for quite awhile. Many have said that developers should take note and they should but it will be years before we see another like it (takes a lot of time to create the depth found in BG3).
TBF, Breath and Tears brought me BACK to Nintendo and Zelda and made me realize why I play games. I never thought I would play a game like them ever again. Though, I think genre shifting players isn't the only factor in a great game.
Well BG3 did win. It also continues to be popular bringing people into turn based games that refused/hated or just never tried that game format. It’s definitely not the only reason to praise BG3, nor did I state it was.@@NoctLightCloud
@@sheabaldwin7270 The Game Awards is a weird sometimes. Games with no replayability, impact, nor community praise can simply win game of the year (like TLOU2 in 2020 despite that 2020-nomination list) just because... Keighley says so? Most of the time, I agree with GOTY, but some award choices are ideed raising some eyebrows in the community. And I wouldn't put everything on sales since that was, Animal Crossing and Super Smash Bros Ultimate should've won. Let's hope this year's nominee list will be on fire again, and that a 2020-scenario doesn't repeat itself. (Also, RE4R winning *nothing* is a bummer.)
I have pretty much the same opinion, as a huge Zelda fan my personal preference is TotK but I feel like Baldur's Gate is going to win. And I wouldn't even be upset, Larian would've earned this win.
@@DarkestVoidand the entirely re used assets of tears of the kingdom does? Top kek. The fighting system in bg3 is absolutely not for everybody, bet you just missed all of your first attacks and just rage quit
TOTK and I'm a fan of D&D turn based. TOTK's story just melted my heart. A good story of untold immense sacrifice, that no one knew about but only a few, to be found out a thousand years later. This type of story is no longer told, sadly. It's a great story if you want to mold young people to care about the future. Baldur's gate does not do the same, it left no impact on me, it's like riding a fun rollercoaster, but you never remember it, because there will always be a better rollercoaster.
Honestly I loved totk, but the story and it’s storytelling left no impact for me, it was the single biggest disappointment in that game. I play Zelda games for the story. And this is coming from a lifelong Zelda fan who’s played all mainline games plus some of the smaller ones. Idk why but it really didn’t hit with me.
BG3 is honestly such a good game, to me, that I'm a converted absolute lover of strategy RPGs (I only loved to play action adventures, cosy games and some JRPGs before this lol)
I've been doing livestreams for seven years (with limited sucess view-wise, but it's fun anyway) and Baldur's Gate 3 is the first game I've not only felt like immediately replaying since Cyberpunk 2077 (when it first came out, don't judge!), but that I ended up replaying about three and a half times in a row with different characters. Granted, I used mods for the last couple of playthroughs to level up faster but what I really wanted to experience was the David Cage-esque level of branching narratives this game had to offer and it delivered in spades!
Part of me hopes it's Baldurs Gate for the sake of how much love was poured into that game, but part of me also hopes it's neither that or Totk just to mess with people lol
Baldursgate swept for me as well. mainly because I want developers to have a bastion to point to. So publisher's aren't breathing down there neck for them to just finish the product, So they have a great example of what happens when you take your time and make the best game you can. Most of the game of the year contenders would win GOTY if it was any other year, (definitely alan wake 2 or totk). This year belongs to baldurs gate
Even though Spider-Man 2 has such crazy accessibility options, the fact that a blond guy won a tournament of Street Fighter 6 because of the accessibility options means it DESERVES to win that category.
Wow, a Nintendo UA-camr actually admitting Nintendo isn’t game of the year quality lmao. I’m convinced people who vote for Nintendo games are the people who ONLY play Nintendo games.
Wow a non Nintendo fan talking crap about Nintendo ignoring every 10/10 review the game had again, cause he’s probably 5 and thinks that people who have a different opinion are stupid and have no idea of what they are talking about! Classic!
@@coolergabe I enjoyed totk, I’m just willing to admit that it’s not better than some of the other options. And Mario CERTAINLY isn’t. If you only play Nintendo games that have been remade like 50 times just say that
I agreed with many of these. I don't play horror and dark stuff though, normally, so I couldn't gauge Alan Wake at all, but other than the times you chose that, I lined up fairly well. And from the examples you gave, yeah, I probably would have voted too.
Alan Wake 2 is very unique for any genre let alone horror, it’s got an art house flair to it, they experiment with live action stuff like Quantum Break did but it’s executed so much better. Even by Remedy’s extremely experimental standards it’s unique. I doubt we’ll ever c anything like it unless Remedy makes more games in its image. Not tryna convince u to play it since u said ur not into that stuff but I thought u might appreciate understanding what people c in it beyond just a “good mystery/horror game.”
Thank you for taking the time, @@anthonytitone. I appreciate it- and from the clips I kind of got that feeling that it wasn't just mystery/horror. Though I will say I'd never expected another game to take the Quantum Break route, that... is interesting.
For the action-adventure category, all I’m going to say is that tears of the kingdom is the only game that has gotten me to sit down for basically 90 hours straight to play it and get all the shrines.
No disrespect, but it's easy to make a game with insane physics when u don't have to worry about the graphics, the story, 50% of the map and like 90% of all assets you took from the last game. Damn, even your dialogs are kindergarden level and lacking voiceover 😂 And BG3 devs made great gameplay system AND ALL i mentioned before, that nintendo gracefully ignores because their fans will pay 70$ for the game no matter what.

Here's my question. When it comes to best indie game shouldn't Lies of P be eligible? It came from a relatively unknown studio, and surpassed expectations. I'm not saying it should win, but at the very least get a nomination. Same could be said for Atomic Heart and best art direction. Not the best game per say, but the art was incredible. I hope it isn't getting snubbed because of political reasons.
I wonder if people forget that Larian is Indie studio, old Indie studio? The different is they are survives to these day and grow into massive studio, yet still indie are massive achievement
@@laillosidgar I think the reason Larian didn't get nominated was because BG is technically a franchise. They weren't the first studio to work on it, but it is part of a franchise. Not to mention that they already had success with Divinity 2.
Man, I feel like I'm the only one not into BG3. I went into it as a DnD player and I've been mostly disappointed. I don't find the story lines that compelling, I don't like how unforgiving the combat usually is (good DMs can match the level of the enemies to the players, but as a preprogrammed game BG3 can't do that), and I really miss the creative freedom I would have had if it were a real DnD game. The best I can say about it is that it is a beautiful, detailed, crafted world, but in terms of enjoyment Tears of the Kingdom is far and away the game for me.

It’s TOTK for me. I tried Baldur’s Gate recently and have been enjoying it a lot, but the gameplay felt boring in my opinion. While BG3 is incredible and definitely the pinnacle of its genre, TOTK innovated massively and I preferred its less linear approach to progression and gameplay, it made everything seem a lot less stale.
@@Chroma10008 BG3 brought the most extreme agency, character creation and the insane amount of different outcomes. People will be playing it for decades. Larian is independent and listens to their community
The voice acting work alone is equal to the development time for TOTK. Nintendo doesn't respect voice actors, they don't think a story needs that to be compelling. I whole heatedly disagree and it's why I stopped playing Nintendo games when I realized how much more immersive good voice acting makes a game. It feels like I'm swimming in the kiddy pool when I play a nintendo game now. Just low effort. Why are they so scared of giving their characters a voice?
Alan Wake 2 left a hole in me I am trying to fill. It left a lasting impression with the emotions it invokes. It was like therapy and it probably could help people. The music is amazing and connects to the story. I was listening to some when I wasn’t playing and still do. All the connections to all of Remedies other games. I would replay but I’m waiting for them to add NG+ and can not wait for the DLC’s
I just finished it recently, and I loved it. My only issues are the excessive flashing inside which game me unnecessary headaches, visual clarity during combat (especially projectiles, and some small but annoying UI issues such as sometimes being hard to click on items inside boxes. I know it doesn’t have much combat but I’d prefer even less of it, and more interesting puzzles (personal preference). Can’t wait for a follow up but it’s probably a long way away. The musical stage was definitely amazing!
Just finished it an hour ago and couldn’t agree more. I waited 12 years for this sequel and it gave me everything I wanted and more. It’s def my game of the year.
See, I do think BG3 is going to be game of the year, but if there was a runner up, it’d be Wake 2. Alan Wake 2 is just an amazing, immersive game with a deep story. But….. it doesn’t hold a candle to just how good BG3 is.
i tried baldurs gate 3 for like 3 hours and even tho i stopped playing it because im not a fan of turn based combat , everything aside from that was just a 10/10, i just really hoped i couldve enjoyed it like the rest of you
First of all awesome video as always. Personally I want BG3 to win. As someone who only got into dnd this year it has really solidified my love of the game and being able to choose how my story is gonna play out has been amazing. However, I did wait years for TOTK like everyone else and I adore it. The music. The story. The characters we know and love there with a fresh new story. It was beautiful. But in my heart I believe and want BG3 to win. It encompasses all of what GOTY stands for and I believe should be awarded for the innovation and creativity they brought to this industry. As you said you aren’t a strategy player but you picked it up. So many people who aren’t super into video games are picking it up and loving it and falling in love with the characters and narrative. BG3 deserves it hands down!🎉❤
@JennaGhoul If what you say is true then you really should play Baldur's Gate 2 as it is actually a far superior CRPG where they count most. Also Planescape Torment. And then there is Pathfinder Wrath of The Righteous. There are just so many better CRPGs out there.
@@gamersinger5118 I really appreciate the game suggestions! What I wrote is true. Started dnd this year and BG3 really helped me understand the inner workings of the magic system and overall deepen my appreciation and love for D&D.
I feel like this year is so obvious compared to most what's going to win or what I think should win. Baldur's Gate 3 is by far the best game out of the rest besides Tears of the Kingdom. I'm not big into Zelda, but I can acknowledge that it is an amazing game and there's definitely some competition to be had there. That's not to say that the other games weren't good, I think a lot of these games are incredible, but it's going to be really hard to beat the two games. I honestly didn't like Super Mario Wonder as much at first because I tried to play locally with some friends, and that didn't go well, but I did watch the stream where you were playing it and I can see why everyone loves it, maybe I just had a rough first experience with it. That all being said, I'm personally a little disappointed because Hogwarts Legacy didn't make any of the awards. It could be just a personal bias, but I really did enjoy the game, and I think it could have made it into some categories.. It's probably not game of the year, though with everything else that is there, and that's ok with me. I really do think that Baldur's Gate 3 is going to take a lot of these categories.. I do hope that some of these other games get some recognition, though, because there are some really good games here
"Baldurs Gate 3 is by far the best game out of the rest besides Tears of the Kingdom" you're saying that like it's fact. It's just a popularity contest, I don't care about those games at all. Not entertaining to me. The idea of a "best game" is absurd since people have different taste on their entertainment, the award really is just for "most popular game" "I'm not big into zelda but I can acknowledge it is an amazing game" as some who IS into zelda (or was until all the zelda games became garbage since 2011) , I do not think it is amazing in the least but I'm not going to go on a lengthy rant about why it's a dull tedious experience. There's enough videos discussing that as it is.
Lies of P was incredible and the songs on them records are beautiful. I'm pulling for Soken and the Final Fantasy XVI soundtrack, but Lies of P deserves much more attention. The game was all in all fantastic.
I understand the importance of being unbiased but, come on wood, this is probably the best time to be biased. Choose the game YOU want to win not what the majority would pick and you can still make a prediction on who you think is going to win.
For me GOTY was between Baldur's Gate 3 and Final Fantasy 16. For some reason, despite being a huge fan of The Legend of Zelda, I couldn't get into Tears of the Kingdom. Once I had my fun with building things everything else in the game felt like a chore, despite the store being really good.
A very rare year, bg3 did perfectly on so many levels, that you honestly start to wonder why do the awards even exist? Just give them already to bg3 and let's finish this. How can it appear in any category and not win? Indeed. Its just mindblowing what they achieved with it. Simple as that. Hopefully the whole gaming industry learns from them.
Honestly I adored BG3 and my hope is that if it gets GOTY, other studios might try and create something close to it as well. Or maybe something even better. I really think it would be a good challenge for more games like it to be more in market.
I hope it wins goty, mostly out of spite of all the controversy aaa devs\publishers were trying to push to make larian look bad. In fact what is very ironic is I probably would not have played baldur's gate 3, if those devs\publishers weren't trying to make larian look bad. It is also the best game I have played this year, so thank you to all those AAA employees for persuading me to try it and fall in love with the game XD
I'm on my 2nd playthrough of BG3 and you know the female leader in the Goblin Camp? If you don't kill her you will see her in Moonrise Towers in Act 2 and if you help her out she can join your party. And she's a love interest like every other party member. Really cool how even among your enemies you can find party members with redemption arcs.
Even funnier if your the dark urge and then have the party back at camp after the druids grove fight and seduce her, then in the morning have the option to do something very Dark Urge related...
Isn't the whole point of the Game Awards to vote for what you liked the most for a category and not what you think other people will vote for / what you think will win 🤔
Thank you for acknowledging Armored Core VI as the best Action game this year! It totally should win that category. But you should have at least mentioned FFXVI getting a nomination for best score.
Like, I've not even heard FFXVI's score yet, too many other things took up my attention this year, but you have to at least assume you'd need to check it out before deciding best score, or acknowledge the gap in experience if you haven't, given the pedigree of musical talent the series is known for.
Totk is my fave by far. Also think BG3 will win and probably should. Just tired of people saying Tears sucks just bc they for whatever reason feel it threatens their pick of BG3 lol
14:45 I'm sorry but Resident Evil 4 Remake should not be in the competition for best game of the year. Not because it is a bad game or the quality of the game doesn't deserve it but for a very simple fact - it's a remake. RE4 Remake is still RE4, a 2005 game - and that means it should be out of the competition for that reason.
TOTK deserves the win, and if not Super Mario’s Bros Wonder or BG3. I loved these three games so much, and indeed, never played any BG game before but this one got me so into it, CRAZY! So I’ll be fine with any of the three winning!
you know.. he didn't play FFXVI did he? ben starr performence was perfect, he WAS clive , couldnt have been anyone else. and so was the music , Soken is litteraly a legend when it comes to music yet choose BG3? i was okay with most choice but those 2 , like. mhh.. idk about that?
It's going to be an interesting awards show, that is for sure. I'm with you 100% on GOTY. TOTK is my personal game of the year, but I'm unbiased enough to understand that BG3 will probably win it. The only reason I could see it not winning is that more of the voters might have played TOTK and not BG3. And some xbox fans might vote TOTK because BG3 didn't make it to Xbox Series X this year, and they'd rather vote for the only other true competitor. Obviously, BG3 is coming to Xbox very soon, but fanboy logic doesn't make sense sometimes, so you gotta dumb your thought process down a bit 😂. Does suck about Starfield not making it, though. I enjoyed my time with it. It's not my favorite Bethesda game, but it's worthy of the nomination over RE4R imo.
I really think GT7 in VR is 100% the best VR game on PSVR2 it’s something you have to experience to understand it but it’s incredible especially with a racing wheel!!!
i dont understand the concept of voting for what you think will win, considering that The Game Awards gives actual fans an impact in what game they want for Game of the Year, wouldn't it make sense for you to vote for your personal game of the year?
BG3 was/is such a ridiculously good game and GOTY for me amongst worthy competition. The real winner is 2023 and gamers in general though, one of the best years for new releases ever full of quality and variety.
As someone who works as a producer on student animated films. An art directors goal isn’t subjective to critique it is not so much what art did I like the most it’s how well did they nail down a style and commit to it. Take persona 5 everything from the UI to the character models and environment pieces feel harmonious because they had I imagine a style guide for almost everything in that game. Whereas I’ll take another game which is similar enough Fire emblem 3 houses has the same designed anime like characters but the environment didn’t meld with them too well. They looked more like dolls being placed in an environment trying to lean more on realism, when they are anime characters. Art direction is essentially how well did they stick to the rules they gave themselves and did those rules leave a lasting impact? Did the way they stylized the game work to its benefit? Did it match? You seemed to understand that with soundtrack and audio design. It’s less about what you like and which is the most effective for creating ambience and atmosphere.
"People aren't talking about/voting for the game I like, therefore there's a problem with the game awards, not me personally." Is an argument I keep hearing lately 😂
I'm a Zelda and Final Fantasy fan. Baldur's Gate made it so difficult for me! I absolutely love totk and ffxvi but bg3 is the game I still play after 150 hours
That’s how long my current play through took for just Act 1. Of course most of that was inventory management and the fact my MC has to go back to every merchant and steal everything. Needless to say with over 200lbs of potions, 30lbs of arrows, and countless scrolls they are ready for Act 2… if someone would convince them to sell their stash of mundane items at camp instead of hoarding everything but he is a street Urchin so you never know when that leg bone might be needed for some bone broth soup……..the 70k gold stashed in the chest….well who uses gold?
Isn’t the point of voting to vote for what you like the best? If everyone votes for what they think will win, it just becomes “oh of COURSE that won, so predictable”
A game in a dying genre that's so good that it revives the whole genre, and makes people who usually don't even touch the genre pick up the game? An independent studio without a publisher that operated at a loss for several years while refusing to further monetize the final product because they didn't want to compromise on quality? Yeah, in retrospect BG3 was always going to win.
You almost nailed guessing every category! I respect your choices. My personal GOTY is Tears of the Kingdom, but I haven't played any other of the GOTY contenders besides Zelda and Mario. 😅 Although I'm gonna, as soon as I have the money and time to play them!

I don’t care who wins. I’m glad all these games are getting the recognition they deserve. So much work goes into these projects.

It not only deserves to win, but it NEEDS to win. To send the message to the industry.
@@thiagocarneiro2794
Not really.
Love the instant support for neil for best voice acting! The other VAs were awesome but Neil really hit it out of the park with Astarion!
It is one of, if not the best vocal performance from any VA in a game ever IMO.
Especially since they're technically the same thing but for different form of media 😅
That's just like people think Hogwarts Legacy got snubbed on purpose
Yes Spiderman & Zelda fans have been extremely obnoxious this year about not winning GOTY. As if the game awards personally hates them when in reality it’s just really hard for a direct sequel to win GOTY when it does what everyone expects of it, that’s not to say predictably is bad because both games had great formulas & added enough to feel fresh but BG3 came out of nowhere for the majority of gamers who didn’t play the Divinity games.
thank you so much!
The concept of the game awards on its own really caters to the most manchildish aspects of the online gaming community.

Absolutely agree.
Mixed reception? The game reviewed pretty strongly
@samsonk.167 it is sitting in the 80s on metacritic, those are not mid numbers
We have to remember that BDG3 came out and scared game devs and creators because it was so incredibly high quality and well written that they worried that if they didn’t match that quality they’d be left to rot so I really think BDG3 is an easy vote for this year
I think the actual thing they were freaking out about was that it was a complete AAA game that has no micro transactions, dlc, and isn't live service all for 60 bucks.
Bal Dur's Gate?
That happened when TotK came out too

I played both and I do put BG3 over TOTK.
BG is the better game
I agree it will be BG3 . Why? Because it brought people into its folds that had/would never play its genre. Also, the all around depth that has been missing from games for quite awhile. Many have said that developers should take note and they should but it will be years before we see another like it (takes a lot of time to create the depth found in BG3).
TBF, Breath and Tears brought me BACK to Nintendo and Zelda and made me realize why I play games. I never thought I would play a game like them ever again. Though, I think genre shifting players isn't the only factor in a great game.
I know 3 people who bought a Switch when Pokemon Brilliant Diamond released. Are we gonna now start praising every game that pulls people in?😂

You’re definitely their target audience LOL
Part of me hopes it's Baldurs Gate for the sake of how much love was poured into that game, but part of me also hopes it's neither that or Totk just to mess with people lol
Tears of the Kingdom is definitely my personal game of the year, but BG3 is probably gonna sweep

it should be The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The fact that Nintendo did that game on this weak hardware is something extraordinary.
This video is basically Wood simping for baldur's Gate 3 the entire video
Baldursgate swept for me as well. mainly because I want developers to have a bastion to point to. So publisher's aren't breathing down there neck for them to just finish the product, So they have a great example of what happens when you take your time and make the best game you can. Most of the game of the year contenders would win GOTY if it was any other year, (definitely alan wake 2 or totk). This year belongs to baldurs gate
Even though Spider-Man 2 has such crazy accessibility options, the fact that a blond guy won a tournament of Street Fighter 6 because of the accessibility options means it DESERVES to win that category.
You mean blind guy right
Wow, a Nintendo UA-camr actually admitting Nintendo isn’t game of the year quality lmao.
Tears of the Kingdom hands down. I understand BG3 is great but the physics system in ToTK is just amazing.
You bugging

The Twisted Metal show was legit awesome, though. If you haven't watched it, I highly recommend it. They understood what to do and executed perfectly.

I actually don't think Neil is a lock for best performance even though id be happy if he won. FF16 had its flaws but Ben as Clive was the most universally praised thing about it but I'd be happy if either won
can i ask what flaws? i keep seeing people say that but never say what flaws? its not turnbase? yeah that ship as sailed a long time ago with the final fantasy series.
Ben Starr literally gives it all in his journey as clive. In terms of acting, ending the role even after a loss, being very active in the community and even streaming.
You can feel Clive Rosfield is Ben Starr.

Remnant 2 is such an amazing game that I've played to completion multiple times already on the different difficulties. I believe you'll enjoy it quite a lot
BG3 for me. Boring? I mean i guess any game to anyone can be boring

Wake!
Would recommend The Talos Principle 2 as you probably enjoy a good puzzle.

If what you say is true then you really should play Baldur's Gate 2 as it is actually a far superior CRPG where they count most. Also Planescape Torment. And then there is Pathfinder Wrath of The Righteous. There are just so many better CRPGs out there.

The idea of a "best game" is absurd since people have different taste on their entertainment, the award really is just for "most popular game"
"I'm not big into zelda but I can acknowledge it is an amazing game" as some who IS into zelda (or was until all the zelda games became garbage since 2011) , I do not think it is amazing in the least but I'm not going to go on a lengthy rant about why it's a dull tedious experience. There's enough videos discussing that as it is.
Baldur's Gate 3 should also win the "Shake up and critique the AAA games industry" award.
That's probably the most important category.
I think there should be a new category for the best remake/remaster game of the year

Yep, Zelda's been a chore ever since Skyward Sword.
some very unique takes here!

14:45 I'm sorry but Resident Evil 4 Remake should not be in the competition for best game of the year. RE4 Remake is still RE4, a 2005 game - and that means it should be out of the competition for that reason.

but the whole point of voting is being biased. otherwise what is the point of voting
