There you go, you have done it again. Taking something that anybody else would have thrown away in a heartbeat and turned it into something beautiful. That’s one of the things I admire about you. Phil is that you can see potential in a lot of things where other people don’t and that really is a skill :-)
Hi Phil, I am with you on keeping the textured top surface; it shows a lovely contrast against the smooth finish in the bowl and on the underside. I am currently enjoying making some bowls/ platters/ dishes in what I like to think of as my 'inspired by Phil' style, trying to leave as much Nature as I can. It's fun!
"Tickles the Fingers!" - Thursday afternoons have become the high light of my week Phil! Thanks for all the great ideas and tips! You make my turning journey so much better! God Bless!
Mr Phil, I can't imagine how anybody would have a single complaint about your work. I've yet to see one of your masterpieces that I do not like. This particular piece is just full of originality and I love it. The best feature, in my opinion, is the one feature I don't think I've seen you put on a piece until now; that textured top. That texture on the top makes the whole piece. Along with the live edge, it simply adds to the character of the piece as a whole. I love your vision on this piece and pretty much every piece of art you turn out. It's truly amazing.
I love the bowl, Phil. I especially love the "burnt" scar on the top and the gnarled look on one of the side rims. I would use this piece as a bedside helper to keep my keys, change, wallet, etc. What a wonderful gem. Thanks for this one, Phil.
I haven't seen anything yet that hasn't looked fantastic when your finished. The way you try to keep the bark and other natural features is great. Like watching you peform.
That turned out pretty! You’re a lot braver than me. I would have been afraid that crack would split apart and hurl across the shop! Thanks for sharing! See you next week!
I just finished watching your video on the small piece of Oak that Tuffy sent you and you turned a Beautiful bowl. Small things when you do it, turns out with results no one thought possible. A very stunning piece again from the Master. Tuffy & Valery knows how to challenge you with the things they send you. As i said I throw very little wood away. At this time I turn a lot of smaller items, this allows me to incorporate a lot more of my creative nature into my projects. KEEP ON TURNING
Hey Phil, I always knew you were taking the "pith"! And you're doing that magic thing again - the wood is spinning and you have your bowl gouge pointing at NOTHING but chunks of wood are flying off - MAGIC! And once again, a Phil Anderson special - very little turning, and let the wood speak for itself!! Excellent!!
Ah Phil, you're incredible, that is such a lovely piece from throw away wood. Love that you left the top as it was just smoothed over to make it touch-worthy. 👏👍🙏
Cricky Phill you bloody ripper, you do amazing works of art and yes it WOOD have been throughen away, but only you could pull that off. Aussie Aussie Aussie GDAY MATE from brisbane Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Love it - I like how when you are finished with a project like this that it a “surprise to you “as well - I always look forward to seeing your videos Bill M
The texture, grain and figuring are all fantastic features! I love this cute little candy dish. I am always impressed at how you give Mother Nature free reign over what she wants you to do with all sorts of woods, even those that most woodturners toss into a fire pit or burn barrel! Thank you, Phil!
You inspire me Phil. I have an old Shop Smith, but I’m getting some things done with it. I also appreciated your Hey Bike evaluation. Keep on turnin! Bob from Hainesport, NJ USA
You are an asrtist. I said it before, I'll say it again. Please share Phil's videos to get him to 100K subscribers by Easter. Thanks Phil. I hugely enjoy your work!
One man's trash another man's treasure 😊 you never cease to amaze us I honestly kept expecting this awesome looking piece of art to split 😮. God bless you Mr Phil Anderson 🙏
No Phil, I think you are incredible. You have a wonderful eye for stuff. I can't believe there would have been many people who would see a candy dish in that board!! I mean really? Always a pleasure to watch. Thank you. Cheers, Rick
So Phil we have another shelf to put up, the throw away pieces shelf, end result looks good worth turning what would have gone to the burn pile, good job Phil. 😁
Thanks, Phil! I enjoy and learn when you explain which side you will use for the top and bottom. Ithelps me to see what it will look like when it is finished. Or what we want it to look like. Thank you.
Another beauty, Phil! I love that naturally split surface on the top. I'll be on the lookout for ways I can include a split surface in something of my own.
Phil, Challenge met and successfully conquered. It was my chainsaw that left those marks when I cut the thick pith slice out of the log. Usually I cut a pith slice in two along the pith, but this one was too pretty to turn into waste wood. Since the pith was actually pretty tight and solid, I figured you might enjoy playing with it. Well done!
Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! Again, and again you amaze us with your vision about any given piece. I thought for certain that it was going to split. I have learned so much from you and we all look forward to your next art piece.
Amazing grain and texture on the very pretty candy dish. I’m glad you see the beauty and worth in pieces of wood that seem otherwise kindling. Nice piece.
As always my friend you can be one of the best teachers in how you do what you do. Your contribution to showing how, and why, you are using your tools. And just think, without your artistic and skilled abilities, combined with your efforts, no one would have seen the beauties hidden inside this simple piece of maple. Thank you Phil.

It just shows Phil that you can take any piece of wood and make something gorgeous. I love it.
