First timer here. Clicked because of the thumbnail pic, watched the whole thing because of your work, subbed because of your commentary. Thanks for the vid. Look forward to more
Love it Phil. As you showed the original chunk my eye went toward turning a trumpet shaped piece your bottom being the top. Gorgeous as you did it, for sure. Thanks for sharing it.
A very delicate bowl with the prettiest grain! I really love how it turned out and rewatched the turntable part 3 times because I wanted to keep looking at it! 👌💕💯
"Making a silk purse out of a sows ear" as they say round my way,,, and you did just that brother Phil 👊🏽 it's a gorgeous little bowl 😍, that grain brought out with the feeding wax is spectacular,,, and yes I guessed and hoped 🤞🏽your choice of finish would be "feeding wax"... Great works as always man 👊🏽
I really like how you save the interesting parts provided by nature. I wonder if on a piece like this if more of the good stuff could be saved by adding a lid. Thank you for making these videos. I really enjoy them
I like lids and wish I could do more of them, Margie. The types of wood I usually turn are often odd shaped and have voids. The top of this piece is uneven and has those voids. I just don't think a lid would look good on them, but, I could be wrong! 😀
Thank You Phil, Thank You Dave at Calmwood Creations... That turned out far better than what I could envision. I seem to always have trouble with Maple. The grain breaks out which requires a ton of sanding to bring it all down so it looks smooth and does not catch the eye. This piece of Maple did not seem to fight you and it sanded up fine. I very much like the finished bowl. You know how to approach a block of wood Phil. You know what will work the best. I look forward to your next performance Phil.... TM
Thanks a lot, Tuffy! This piece seemed to be a little softer than most Maple and it did have some punky grain. But, it did sand pretty easily which made me happy! 😀
Splendid!! Phil is the "Casey Jones" of Woodturning when it comes to removing the nub.... One hand on the throttle, and the other on the gouge!! Great video! Thanks for sharing your experiences with us!!
Well dang Phil that is just way too cool! I love everything about it. Every time you took more off it just looked better and better. Glad I did not watch this yesterday because I had just got back from taking a nap at the oral surgeon and was finding it hard to stay awake. Well worth waiting. The drill chuck sounds like the one i got at one of the 2 local woodworking stores we all have. I complained about how the chuck key did not fit and they suggested I go to Harbor Freight and get a universal chuck key. Right! So I am using the more than 50 year old Jacobs chuck and key I use on my metal lathe. Another beauty my friend, Gary
Hahaha, oh yeah, the elusive universal chuck key! LOL! Too funny! I bet that old Jacobs works as good as the day it was born. Sorry about the oral surgery, I don't even like the sound of that! Thanks, buddy!
Yup that old chuck works great. And so does the one on my Craftsman drill press that is a twin to yours . I think I bought mine in 1973. All went well with the oral surgeon. Gary
This is a wonderful bowl. I like this wood. It does show a beautiful color and grain. I wasn’t sure what you were going to do in the beginning but as you have said many many times the piece will tell you what to do. Kind of looks like a BIG goblet 😂 Thanks for the show. Joel
Thanks again Phil for letting us look over your shoulder while you ponder what to do. It adds so much to follow your train of thought! The bowl is beautiful as usual. Cheers, Rick
Beautiful piece of wood and neat shape you gave it. These turnings are really fun to watch because of how the shape develops as you work your way through the piece.
Very nice! Your a great instructor because you have a very good set of things you follow on every piece yet still do such a wide spectrum of things you create...
Thanks for sharing Phil! Looks good, nice grain, great shape. I might have left it different after starting differently, But, this looks good. You are the teacher we're the student🙂
Howdy Phil! Great video and I concur....M&M's holder👍👍 🤓 Hurricane Milton finally moved off shore and watching your video was a good way to decompress. Just what I needed.
I somehow think it should be we, the viewers of your channel, who should be thanking YOU Phil for sharing your time, your experience & your magnificent skill set, with us. Speaking for myself, it is always exciting when Thursday comes around to look up expectantly for "what has Phil got instore to excite & entertain us today"? It is always a privilege for us to 'tune in' to not only look at your skills on display but to listen to your delightful, thoughtful & descriptive commentary as you talk yourself through what you are seeking to do & sharing your thoughts with us, as only Phil can do. Put simply, you are a genius with how you compile your videos, projects & commentary with us. "Gee, how long is it until the next video from Phil"? Thanks mate & stay well my friend. Cheers, Don from South Aust.
Beauty bowl Phil : ) M & M’s will be proud to hang out with you on movie night. I have a bit of big leaf maple from my nephew’s farm in central Oregon. I am going to take it out as you have inspired me with the beauty of you bowl. Cheers!
Now that's cool. I might have gone smaller top/entry type hollow form, but I think your finished product is more practical and displays mo4e of the interesting texture and colour contrasts. Superb job Phil. Thanks for sharing.
Add another to the beautiful column! The grain in that maple is really pretty Phil, and you did it justice as usual! I came in to warm up, after running some ponderosa pine through the planer, and it is starting to get chilly at night here in Montana, plus the sun disappears much earlier. Thanks for posting Phil, always a pleasure to see your projects. Blessings to you, stay safe, Rick.
The bowl just turned out to be such a beautiful piece, I esapcelily liked the Natural edge you left and it added some caracture to the bowl. It had some really nice grain featrures in it . The color contrast was spectaculer. Your comments and decisions while turning this bowl were well appreciated and will help on making a decision on one of my own projects. The thin walls adds even more interesting caracture to this piece. KEEP ON TURNING PS Wooodturning IS like getting a hamburger, you dont know what it will look like untill you take the Bun Off the top!!!!!
Howdy Phil, I love your work. The bowl looks great. Thanks to Dave @calmwoodcreations for supplying the material. Yep, a pound of M&M's and a large bowl of buttered popcorn and one of those great 1950's sci-fi movies makes for a great evening for me. LOL. Take care and keep turning. Bill Riley
Nice Piece Phil!! I caught that comment about standing on the other side of the lathe, wasn't sure what you meant, but I knew you knew it wouldn't change anything. Your video's are the highlight of Thursday night for me. Keep 'em coming!

Thank you! 😀

😀
Good things come in small packages!! You've done it again!!
Thanks, Colleen! 😀
You are very welcomed!!❤@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
Love the undercut … that’s so pretty! I agree that the low edge is the best part. It looks like a clay pot that slumped, or melted. Just so cool!
🥰
Thank you, Tara! 😀
Hi Phil the bowl is magnificent I love the grain and colouring. You really are talented and gone an eye for everything natural. Amanda xx
Many thanks, Amanda! 😀

Thank you, Celia! 😀

Haha, thank you! 😀
Nice turning Phil with your design-on-the-fly technique. Glad that you didn't suggest sanding upside down to accomplish sanding in reverse.
You can only do that on the inside, Charles! LOL! 😀
I really like little bowls, and this one is great. I like the shape you ended up with.
Thank you, Fred! 😀
Well dang Phil that is just way too cool! I love everything about it. Every time you took more off it just looked better and better.

Доброго времени суток, Фил. Хорошая работа. Перед точением, теория, а дальше сама токарка. Как всегда интересный подход к заготовке. Но на выходе, недостатки заготовки, стали достоинствами изделия.
