I was there for his 20 strikeout game vs the Tigers. It was at the old Tiger Stadium. It was a chilly night, maybe 5,000 people were there. I was 15, and a pitcher on my travel baseball team. I'll always regret not getting his autograph that night. Another notable thing about that night was we got to see Nomar Garciaparra playing in that game as a September call up.
April 29th 1986 I was at that game in Fenway Park when Rocket became the first MLB pitcher in history to strike out 20 batters in a nine inning game, like the game in Detroit it was a cool night, not a good night for hitters, Clemens was just mowing down every Seattle batter that came up to the plate, the only run Seattle got was on a home run by Gorman Thomas which shocked me because while being a power hitter, Thomas wasn't a good hitter as far as averages because it would have been a shutout for Clemens if not for that home run. I'll always remember how hard he was throwing that night, it was a sight to see, Clemens was throwing heat the whole game just totally dominated and that was a really good Red Sox team that year making it to the world series but losing to the Mets in 7, Sox came so close to winning it but came up short and on that team was Dave Henderson who hit that now famous home run in the ninth inning in the playoffs against California and he was on that Seattle team when Clemens struck out 20, I wanna say Clemens struck him out 3 time's that night, what a great game to have witnessed that night and even though they (Sox) didn't win the world series still had a great year
@Gregory-sm9pf Clemens was part of, and the starting pitcher in (no decisions that he pitched really well in) two of the most historic, heartbreaking World Series loses in recent MLB history. Game 6, 1986 WS vs. the Mets. Game 7, 2001 WS vs. AZ.

@Gregory-sm9pf lol WS as in World Series. As for the McNamara - Clemens story. I've watched it, and it really doesn't seem like Clemens thought he was coming out of the game since he had a helmet on by the bat rack before he was pinch hit for. To me, that either means Clemens didn't ask out of the game, or he said something, possibly bitching about the blister,( but in his mind wasn't asking to get out of there) but Mac took it to mean that and dissapointly obliged. What is really crazy is how poorly McNamara and his family have taken that whole incident. On the day he passed away a few years ago, his family was still bitching about this crap. Whining how Boston media took Clemens side...blah blah blah....get over it dude.

This happened in the late 80s/early 90s. I was like 9 or so years old so probably 1989 or 1990. I'm from Boston and my family got tickets to a Red Sox game and we got there early enough to catch batting practice. Well don't I see Roger Clemens, crouched down against the backstop near the home team on-deck circle, watching BP. I had brought some baseball cards; only a few. They were basically all the cards I had of Red Sox players and Roger Clemens was one of them. So, with my parents encouragement, I walked down a few rows to the wall behind where Roger was crouching. With all the social courtesy and tact that a wide-eyed, star struck 9 year old me could muster, I asked to please have an autograph on my Roger Clemens baseball card. He said something to me that I'll never forget. "Ten bucks". I just remember awkwardly smiling and asking, "what?", probably laughing nervously. He repeated it again "10. Bucks." I don't remember how I replied but I remember watching him standup and move away a bit. I just turned around and went along my way, back to my parents. Like most of the horrible experiences in my young life, I just smiled, nodded and blocked out the awful feeling I had. Thanks for the memory, Roger ❤ Side note, I did get Louis Rivera's autograph on his baseball card. He was sitting in the dugout when I politely but excitedly asked and he was happy to sign it. Super nice of him. Also, while I was doing that, my parents sent my sister to ask Roger for an autograph and he did! She still has her Roger Clemens signed ticket stub. She hates baseball and I love it. What a world. 😂
As A Lifetime Astros Fan, I really appreciated Roger Clemens time (although short) pitching for the Houston Astros, he pitched the Astros to their very first World Series, I know fans take that for granted now but at the time, 2005, to me it was a big deal, and he was still a very good pitcher then too
Clemens was a fierce competitor. I loved power pitchers too like Nolan Ryan so I’m admittedly biased but there was something about watching him pitch and pump his arm and goat guys. Threw hard inside to keep guys off the plate. Wish he was in the HOF… screw all those hypocrites
I never liked Roger Clemens as a player. I love him as a person, he's not mumbling when asked tough questions. The love he shows for his relatives is true I can feel it. Help his family financially is the sign of great human being. I wish him the best, love and respect to Roger.
Rocket is a hero to us BoSox fans. As for the HoF, I think we need to let bygones be bygones and let guys like Clemens in during their lifetimes. 7 Cy Youngs, and at least 3 of them before any hint of PEDs. Let's move on from that era.
The under 45 generation will get him in before he dies. Support for his HOF decision is entirely generational. Old fogey morons resist it, and people under 50 basically support it.
Absolutely, George would hire any manager, sign any player to help NY win. im sorry you have Jerry, but atleast you got the old texas rangers owner. he seems to want to win.
Wow, I had no idea the Mets drafted Clemens. Had Clemens signed with the Mets, imagine Gooden and Clemens in the same rotation during the 80s. They would've easily had a dynasty and the best pitching duo in the history of baseball.
I had no idea Roger was pitching at San Jac North on Uvalde Road when I lived in North Share going back and forth almost daily past their baseball field. We even went to at least one game, but that was before any of us knew he was the Rocket.
This man should be in the HOF period that's my final thought he was a pitching machine I don't care if they don't put you in the HOF for me you are in my HOF you are the best pitcher I ever seen my 4 favorite pitchers all time Rogers Clemens, Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux and Pedro Martinez 👌💪
Hell of a pitcher, tremendous competitor and yet I still don't believe him when he tries to convince people he was clean. When you're that good for that long in Boston and age starts to catchup to you and you realize my best days are likely behind you, you turn to the fountain of youth and I believe that's what he did. Power pitchers in their mid 30's don't improve with age but he did. I can't help but believe he dipped into modern chemistry to get there.
Randy Johnson's best years were age 37 & 38. Curt Schilling's were 34,35 & 37. Verlander's were 36 & 39. Nolan Ryan's were in his 40's. Yet you're telling me it's that odd Clemens had a great year at 34?
@ashurany yea, I believe his accuser. Thing is, it wasn't exactly a devastating accusation IMO....He claimed he used for parts of 3 seasons, in his late 30s, then stopped after 2001.......That's it? He played 24 years total and won another Cy Young in 2004 and an ERA title in 2005, several years after he stopped.

This is a good show by Joe Buck. It's interesting how some of these athletes became successfull. Some were gifted even as a child. But others had to struggle and were lucky to make it in the pro's. All had interesting stories though. He tends to interrupt his guests though.
Like everyone else I've found myself having preconceived notions about someone's character and demeanor. With people I've never met or talked to. Especially with actors and athletes. I felt that Roger Clemens was just your normal spoiled arrogant athlete who had little or no regards for fand. Only to find out how wrong I was. We have a single A baseball team affiliated with the Astros where I live. Clemens has a son who played catcher for a year with this team. One time Clemens came with his brother n law came to watch his son play. He wanted to play a round of golf at a course close to the airport. I coincidentally belong to a county club that is maybe five minutes from the airport. Clemens and his brother n law played a round with one of our 50:03 assistant golf pros and another member. Word quickly spread Clemens was playing at our club. Members would go over to the tee or green to get his autograph. Clemens would wait until he greeted or gave an autograph to everyone who came over. After his round was over he stood in front of the pro shop signing autographs and speaking with everyone. This was for a good hour until Clemens brother n law told him they had to leave because their private jet was about ready to be cleared for take off. Everyone he came in to contact with raved what a great guy he was. And in awe how friendly and patient he was. He sincerely showed what a stand up guy he was. If I had a vote l would vote him to enter the HOF in a second
As a child of the late 80’s Clemens was my fav player..Did he take roids? Maybe..Probably..But think of this..Baseball doesn’t have its all time Hit, HR and arguably its Greatest Pitcher(Clemens,7 CY Young’s) in its Hall Of Fame..It’s embarrassing. There has to be some kind of reconciliation
@ Ryan was amazing too. Not trying to slam him..If I had to pick a pitcher(in their prime) to pitch one game, Ryan would be right up there..I’d probably go (1) Pedro Martinez. (2) Clemens (3) Ryan..Maybe Koufax..
@@cheddarcheese7928 I’d pick Clemens for one game. Far more consistent with keeping the ball on the ground and out of the stands, and not giving up free passes.

Roger Clemens is arguably the best right handed pitcher to ever play baseball. How David Ortiz is in the hall of fame, but not Roger Clemens is a joke. Clemens has the most Cy Young awards in baseball history (7), he's a all-time great pitcher. He was awesome as a Yankee, and we appreciated him.
The Atlanta Braves recruited heavy in Texas in the early to mid 80s and they missed out on Roger Clemens. They got Ronnie Gant and Kevin Coffman right out of High School. I'm sure they look back and wonder how they missed out on Clemens and Calvin Schiraldi.
I like Roger Clemens. Seems like a brutally honest guy. I hope he makes the Hall of Fame some day. But he's right the luster will be gone. But I'm sure he will be happy to get in.
Andy Petitte was not lying. He doesn’t have a lying bone in his body. Petitte had nothing to gain by saying he and Rodger Clemens both took steroids. He owned his mistake. Roger needs to own his
I watched Clemens pitch in the College World series at Rosenblat stadium in Omaha Neb when UT won the college world series. I also saw Clemens pitch for the Red Sox a few years later. It really opened my eyes as to how far an elite college grade pitcher has to climb to be an elite MLB pitcher.

I had no idea Roger was pitching at San Jac North on Uvalde Road when I lived in North Share going back and forth almost daily past their baseball field. We even went to at least one game, but that was before any of us knew he was the Rocket.
Legend interview 🙌🏼🕊️
This man should be in the HOF period that's my final thought he was a pitching machine I don't care if they don't put you in the HOF for me you are in my HOF you are the best pitcher I ever seen my 4 favorite pitchers all time Rogers Clemens, Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux and Pedro Martinez 👌💪
What a nice legacy his dad left.
Roger treated me amazingly when I met him in an elevator with my best friend at 11 years old. I'll always remember how kind he was to us.
Clemens might never admit it, but he doped.
Exactly. Let’s not forget his trainer has the needles.
@@dukedematteo1995 notice when Buck asked him about the Mitchell Report, it’s was like oh that’s wasn’t right. He shouldn’t have released that. Then when asked about he’s trainer… it was like I don’t want to talk about that, of course not. He’s fine talking about himself, but oh no… let’s not discuss facts about his cheating.
I am and always will be a Baltimore oriole fan. Jim Palmer was my guy but I was always a Clemens fan. What an amazing talent and on an opposing team but I can recognize and appreciate talent.
I was a kid growing up in the 80’s and clemens, Ryan,Bo, caseco… and many more… what a time no matter what anyone says their was some great baseball played
Great thanks I feel very much closed the tremendous man
One hell of a man !!
Two world series Two Record breaking 20 strikeout games. 7 cy youngs and 1 triple crown. Respect the Goat of pitchers.
2 triple crowns 97 and 98, don't forget AL MVP 1986
Great interview!!!
I loved watching the rocket He was the one of the best
20 ks wow my high school had 2 pitchers who averaged 18 ks a game ! But 20 in MLB! Greatest ever!
Outstanding interview.
This is a good show by Joe Buck. It's interesting how some of these athletes became successfull. Some were gifted even as a child. But others had to struggle and were lucky to make it in the pro's. All had interesting stories though. He tends to interrupt his guests though.
Just a great show
Like everyone else I've found myself having preconceived notions about someone's character and demeanor.
Ever heard of Nolan Ryan? Just asking.
@@toddm9501 I think so..Isn’t he the all time walk leader?
@@cheddarcheese7928Roger Clemens was twice the pitcher that Nolan Ryan was.
Roger ... you are a friend of my family.
Maddux, pedro, r.johnson, clemens.
Ryan, seaver, koufax
Verlander, scherzer, kershaw
Top 10 of all time.
What about Bob Gibson and Steve Carlton.
Bob Gibson is top 5-7
Rocket!!! One of the best to ever do it!! 💯🤙
A real man
Super athlete
Bless
The Rocket was without a doubt "THE GREATEST PITCHER OF ALL TIME"!!
I'M 67 YRS OLD AND I HAVE SEEN ALL OF THE MODERN DAY PITCHERS AND THE ROCKET IS THE GREATEST!!
Sooner fan here so I didn't like Roger until he got to the majors. Had a friend who was his cousin so that & his dominance helped turn me into a Rocket fan.
Put the man in the Hall of Fame!
I believe Roger Clemens 100% I believe other of his accused contemporaries should be in the Hall of Fame.
the MAN
Why the editing jump around the 29:2 mark? Right in the middle of the Mike Piazza conversation!!!!

One of the best New York Yankee & Blow Sox players ever.
And that says a lot. the Rocket belongs in the Hall of Fame.
M L B NEEDS TO GET OFF THERE BUTS AND MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION.
If they don't?
They're NUTS .
Why is there a picture of Augie Garrido and there saying it’s Cliff Gustafson
They blew that one big time
Coach Wayne Graham was a NY Met in 1964, getting 3 hits in 33 at bats.⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️
He had a 30 game career with 7 career hits. But at least he can say he played in the big leagues.
I agree 100%
💉
Clemens isnt in the HOF cuz he cheated. Why else??
@@jeremiahfitzwinkle323 So tell us when Clemens used. East dates only. Thanks
Just like Bonds. Why isnt he in the HOF?@@tew-dawg9671
Saw him live game 4 world series 1999. Largest oviation i've ever heard when he was taken out at Yankee Stadium.
Great series! Please have Lance Armstrong on soon
Ummm, no, please don’t. He’s not a hero, role model, good person nor a champion.
Ya call it the cheater series next up a-Rod and Barry bonds
@@joker57A-Rod has been on already.
When was this?
Another great episode. Put the rocket in.
No way. Drug cheats don’t belong.
good one- what year was this recorded?
The Atlanta Braves recruited heavy in Texas in the early to mid 80s and they missed out on Roger Clemens. They got Ronnie Gant and Kevin Coffman right out of High School. I'm sure they look back and wonder how they missed out on Clemens and Calvin Schiraldi.

It's amazing how benevolent they are sitting in the chair.
The same guy who threw a saw toothed bat at Mike Piazza
Looking at him now, he certainly never went hungry again
Never failed a drug test. Dude was nasty and competitive as sh!t. Belongs in Cooperstown.
Roger Clemens HOF
Met him at autograph signing 1987 winter
👍👍👍👍
Roger was Awesome and Still is.
I like Roger Clemens. Seems like a brutally honest guy. I hope he makes the Hall of Fame some day. But he's right the luster will be gone. But I'm sure he will be happy to get in.
Roger, in my opinion, was a Hall Of Famer LONG before he ever allegedly took a single shot of juice. Same with Raffy.
Only Palmero failed a test
@@TL2354 They ALL failed a test: the eyeball test.
Great interview. Bummer about those edits.
I apologize for the error I hit the 1 instead of the 0 and I meant (20) strikeouts not (21) my bad!
Some in HOF don't belong ! Rocket Roger does!
Andy Petitte was not lying. He doesn’t have a lying bone in his body. Petitte had nothing to gain by saying he and Rodger Clemens both took steroids. He owned his mistake. Roger needs to own his
Sadly my idol as a kid but no hall for him 😢
He was in the movie King Pin as a trucker.
Class Act
See how Clemens is getting nervous at like 25:00 when he won 2 Cys with the blue jays?
Rocket looks young
First father son? What about Griffey?
I watched Clemens pitch in the College World series at Rosenblat stadium in Omaha Neb when UT won the college world series. I also saw Clemens pitch for the Red Sox a few years later. It really opened my eyes as to how far an elite college grade pitcher has to climb to be an elite MLB pitcher.
Don't forget the steroids he was taking to stay at the top lol...
I am glad to hear he doesn’t care about the hall of fame because he’s never getting in.
