@M False. The National Football League is the most popular sport and will always be king as it generates the most interest and money than any other sport worldwide.
Just saw this and it made me tear up. My grandma was the hugest Sox fan and she passed away in 2013 just a few months after they won the World Series that year.
I'm a Red Sox fan who is not from Boston. I became a Red Sox fan on October 10, 2016. My wife and I had been in Boston visiting that week and our last day there was October 10, 2016, the last game for Big Papi and the day we got to see Fenway for the very first time in person. That week I fell in love with Boston, with the people of Boston, with the Red Sox and the Red Sox players. How could I NOT? Every time I meet someone from Boston, I automatically love them. I'm from the Midwest, but if I could have chosen anywhere in the U.S. to have been born in, it would have been in Boston. Just saw this documentary for the first time last week and I got emotional because I feel like I've always been a Red Sox fan. I know it's weird, but it's true. Everyone in this documentary did such an amazing job at describing their thoughts and feelings about 1978, 1986 and 2004. I felt their pain and I cried when they cried and got frustrated and rejoiced when they did. I was only one when the 78 series was played but watched the 86 series at nine and our household was cheering HARD for the Sox even though we were in the Midwest. Since 2016, I've been as die hard of a Sox fan as you can get! Thank you to everyone who shared on this documentary.
I'm a fan of another "cursed" team: the Milwaukee Brewers. We just saw our beloved Brew Crew lose to the Mets in Game 3 of the NLWC. It feels like 10/2/78 and 10/25/86 combined. The worst part of the "curse" is this. Every single team that has defeated the Brewers in the MLB postseason since 1981 has advanced to the World Series...that very same year. If the Mets reach the Fall Classic this year, I'll just die inside.
My brother was a die hard red sox fan. We loved them. He was killed in March 2004 in an ATV accident. My grandmother was also a life long red sox fan she died in June 2004. It was bittersweet I'll never forget it, or them . Love you Jerod and Gram
The curse was over after Ted Williams died. He got to baseball heaven, grabbed a hold of Babe Ruth and told him it was over. "There's a new Ghost Sherrif in town, Babe!"
For me I felt like the curse broke when Curt Schilling played the game of his life............ In a sock he made red with his own blood. in a game where he actually gave his blood sweat and tears.
Die hard Yankees fan I am but I respected the Red Sox's will and determination that year. I was sad but glad that the Red Sox won that title that year. They earned it. 2004 was the year of Boston Red Sox.
I'm a lifelong Liverpool fan and having the same owners as the Red Sox I was intrigued to find out more. I have tears streaming down my face watching this, you guys have a really special club. All I have left to say is "Let's Go Red Sox"
glad I came across both the curse and reverse of the curse videos. As a yankees fan, I really cannot say I hate the Red Sox organization, at the end of the day its all for the love of the game of baseball. This documentary was simply great. Near the ending it got me choked up a bit, seeing families visiting their passed loved ones was just a mixture of happiness and sadness all in one, but it was very beautiful. Amazing, really amazing :), much respect.
When I watched this video, I was deeply shamed of myself and unfortunately it didn’t make me feel any better at all. I’ve been a Red Sox fan since 1987 and I actually like it when we lose to the Yankees. It’s our job to be boo’d at when we visit the big Apple and one time I got cheese fries thrown at me in a Bronx summer night and I absolutely loved it.
Whoever is the composer of the music on the two HBO documentaries about the Red Sox should have won an award for the brilliant music he created to envision in the viewers' minds the anguish that Red Sox fans experienced for so many years watching their team repeatedly find new ways to blow a chance to win the World Series and then finally win it all!
Congrats to the Cubs. As a baseball fan l was so happy the Cubbies finally did it. I was also happy they beat the Indians who eliminated my Sox. But no one ends a curse like the Sox. The 2004 ALCS Is the greatest sports story of all time. Getting shellacked in game three by 19-8 (the worst beating in postseason history) The Yankees humiliated us and were three outs away from winning it. Game four was on October 17 which happens to be my birthday and it was the best birthday l ever had. Looks like we'll have to get past Cleveland again this year and they are hot as all hell.
I'm not a Red Sox fan, in fact I don't even follow baseball except for tuning in for the world series every once in a while. But this is one of my favorite documentaries and it always moves me nearly to tears. Everything about it, the musical score, the personal stories, the history, the tragedy, and finally, triumph, I felt like I was taking every step of the journey with them. This is a masterpiece of filmmaking.
Tim Wakefield is a true teammate. In game 3 of the 2004 ALCS he took a shelling and pitched those innings which saved the bullpen. Then in 2007 after winning 17 games he took himself off the World Series roster due to back issues when the team left it up to him. That was very rare in that/this day and age.
The way it ended was just something out of a movie. Down 3 games to none against the very rival who "cursed" you, getting dickslapped 19-8 in game 3, and somehow battling back to exercise the demons to win the series 4 games to 3 and then win the championship in the next round? Perfection
Twenty years later and it still brings tears. My favorite moment though was in 2005 when they got their rings vs. the Yanks. They introduced each player and when they introduced Mariano, he got a standing ovation. He acknowledged the crowd with a broad smile and a laugh. Quite a moment.
It was great to see all those Dave Granlund cartoons from The MetroWest Daily News. I was sitting at one of the desks in the paper's Sports department when the Red Sox came back against the Yankees and won the World Series by shutting out the Cardinals in Game 4. On the comebacker to Foulke that ended it, my heart went into my throat, certain the ball would be thrown wildly, but our Sports Editor, Craig Larson, pumped his fist and said, "Yes!" and I relaxed.
So, it was the Cardinals' shortstop, Edgar Renteria, who made the last out of the 2004 World Series. He was wearing uniform number 3. Babe Ruth's number. The beginning --> the middle --> the end. Say what want about the curse and silly superstition, but you can't deny pure poetry.
This brings tears to my eyes. I will never forget the ‘04 Sox and no team has quite had the same impact since. After they won against NY, I just had to fly back to Boston to be near “The Pahk” for the WS; if I couldn’t get into a game at least my siblings and I would go to The Cask & Flagon and watch the game behind the park while hearing the screams coming from within. But, as luck/fate would have it, my older brother scored tickets from a connection he had at MLB - 4 bleacher seats - for Game 2. The other Schilling game. We went in with a sign that had bullseye targets drawn on it, with the centers cut out so we could stick our faces through whenever the Sox were at bat. The sign read “Hit the idiots, win a prize”. The cameras captured us, and Joe Buck even called out our sign during the game! What a magical end to an unforgettable season.
Kevin Millar was your average journeyman player. He was there for like 2 seasons, but still one of my favorite players of all time. He was like a glue that helped hold it together, even down 0-3 against the Yankess. Before game 4 he kept hittin all the guys with his 'Don't let us win tonight' speech. It's like he was telling them if they won that night, they would have the advantage. He knew that wasn't true, but it kept the guys focused on game 4, not the huge task of winning 4 straight. He also drew walks late in games 4 & 5 that got Roberts in to run and tie both games. Every team needs a guy like Millar, a team full of superstars rarely get it done. Too many egos.
Yeah, Millar was a character that's for sure but also had some pop in his bat and a good eye at the plate. He was a good scrappy player for the Sox. That's why I loved the 2013 WS Red sox team, sure they had some stars but there was a TON of scrap iron on that team. Gomes, Napoli, Saltalamacchia, David Ross, Steven Drew, Will Middlebrooks... AND that team had the absolute BEST chemistry of any Sox team I ever saw and that's going back to when Tony Conigliaro was the youngest player to reach 100 HR. 2004 was epic, 2007 proved it was not a fluke and 2013 put the Red Sox up with the SF Giants as the two teams with the most WS wins in the 21st century, but more importantly (to me) the 2013 BoSox were the most fun Sox squad I ever had pleasure to watch. So many come from behind victories, so many walk offs, so many Grand Slams, so many poundings of the Yankees, so much offense, simply an incredible year.
And you are right about teams filled with superstars, about the only superstar filled team that was unstoppable as far as I'm concerned was the Oakland A's of the early 70's, they had SO many elite players and they had egos a-plenty, but I think while they hated each other, they hated their opponents more. So many famous names on that team and the last team to win three in a row. Then Charlie Finley sold them all off. Some of them went on to win WS elsewhere.
The Original Curse of the Bambino is what made me a Redsox Fan back in 2003.. The following year, I didn't watch the season literally until Game 4 of the ALCS after arguing with all my Yankee fan friends in school saying that they were gonna come back. Little did I know, that NEVER has ever happened in Sports History. My only argument was "I didn't watch the first 3 games that's why you guys won" trolling all my friends mind you, I knew nothing about MLB Playoffs so it legit didn't bother me or worry me when my friends would tell that coming back from 3-0 has never happened.. I can't explain it but they legit won every single game from the moment I started watching the ALCS and I've been a Baseball/Redsox Fan ever since. It's one of the most craziest 'You wouldn't believe me if I told you' stories in my life. Since then, I'm 26 Years Old and I am about to live through a 4th World Series Title from My Redsox.. I'm proud of this documentary, it changed my life and changed the Redsox Organization
Arlis Martinez: it did happen in the 1942 Stanley cup finals. The Toronto Maple Leafs were down 3 games to 0 to The Detroit Redwings. and they came back to win the Stanley Cup.
As a Giants fan I had my '04 Sox fan moment in 2010. I was only 33 when they finally won so I'd only had about 25 years of misery and disappointment. I felt great and it was one of the few times I cried watching sports. It's amazing what something even as silly as sports can mean to you.
My grandfather , a lifelong Sox fan was born in 1920. He died Oct 9th 2004 and never saw them win. The day after he died I found a watch he wore to work for years that no longer worked. I asked if I could have it and I wore it for the rest of the playoffs. The morning of game 7 against the Yankees the watch started ticking. No joke. The night the Sox won the World Series the watch stopped. So when then won I was so happy but I cried for days bc I was so sad he never got to see it. Then I though he had to go up and kick Babe Ruths butt for us.
I’m a diehard Red Sox fan. I started liking them in 2003 and I won’t stop now. The end of this documentary makes me emotional. Showing those who were dead and couldn’t witness this. The 04 season was by far the best season the Red Sox ever had.
Mike, I think the biggest coincidence about this entire story is after 8 decades, they make a documentary chronicling the futility of the Red Sox and then end up winning the Fall Classic the very next season!! That is where the irony lies for me. I'm not even a baseball fan. I live in Montana. I've never played the game. The history of baseball as it pertains and parallels to America is an amazing story. It's a very patriotic story. And the Red Sox have been there since day one. Thanks again my friend... Jeff Legg Great Falls, Montana
+Jeff Legg Um hello... they made this documentary about the 2004 team AFTER they won.. That's the whole point. A quick google search could have told you that. One of my very good friends from Montana is a season ticket holder at Fenway. You don't have to live in a major league baseball city to follow the sport or check your facts.
As a Clevelander, the Red Sox story is something I can relate to. I was rooting for the Sox that year and celebrated hard when they won it. But when Boston stopped Cleveland in 2007, a good friend of mine from New England said that his team had to wait 86 years, so don’t worry. I remember telling him in 2007 that I believed Cleveland would surpass the 86 year wait of the Red Sox. Well, it’s 2022 now and we’re at 74 years and counting. I still hope I’m wrong though!
They didn't lose because of Buckner. They lost because their pitching staff couldn't get the job done. The same thing happened to the Cubs. It wasn't Bartman.
Yeah man. Don't remind me. You know what? I think once the pitching staff melts down everyone else just gets so nervous, it's like this slippery slope. Everyone's thinking "Don't blow it, we got this game in the bag." and then everyone just starts screwing up royally.
I was a stripper in 2003/2004 and we got to pick our own music. I played Tessie, Shipping Up to Boston and Dirty Water during my sets and came out with a Sox jersey, Sox cap, knee high red socks and a small bat. I’ll never forget HOW MUCH MONEY I made during and after both World Series! It was insane. Men standing up along the stage singing along at the top of their lungs, pounding the table to the beat and just tossing $20 bills onto the floor at me. I loved the reaction and fed off it. Game 7 was playing on stage behind me on a giant pull down projector. It was so much fun. I still think about all that money lol good times and no regrets.
Respect on the sportsmanship. Hey man 2004 was a sweep but 2013 was an all out war. Could have gone either way. The Cardinals always find a way to be in the mix somehow. It's pretty cool.
My dad had a tryout with the Red Sox just before he went into the Navy in 1943. As a kid he would go to both the Braves and Red Sox games. He passed in 2012 but I am so happy that he saw 2 WS championships!
Wow! The last 15 minutes! Worth all the waiting. Worth all the energy and love we Sox fans have put into this team. It’s been 20 years and we got 3 more, but this was pure agony and then pure joy that you can still feel.
Although the drought was nowhere near the length of the Red Sox, I recently learned the feeling of finally being a champion after so much pain. Thank you dodgers
Thanks for not letting the Cardinals or Yankees get another one in '04. -Love Every Cubs fan PS: Would've been nice if you could've helped us out in the '05 ALDS, though.
I remember being maybe 10 or 11 and watching this many, many times on UA-cam as I was just getting into baseball. The Red Sox’s story sucked me in and I was fascinated by the Mets’ rally in ‘86 and the 2004 championship run they had. Just a few short months later, on a cold November night, my Cubs were on the doorstep of victory in the World Series. When Rajai Davis had tied the game in the 8th inning, I immediately thought of the Sox in 1986 during my panicked state. And just before Kris Bryant fielded a slow bouncer for the final out, I thought of the Sox, and these fans, and I couldn’t believe I was about to experience what they had talked about for all those years. It was a feeling I couldn’t describe.
Interesting to watch this as a Cubs fan. I feel like your '78 kinda mirrors our '69. Then there was '84/'86 and both teams getting close in '03. Didn't realize how many more close calls you had though.. at least you guys had a cooler curse, you had Babe Ruth, we just had a stupid goat.
Watched Malice last week and I still smile when Bill Pullman says" what does anyone want, I want the Red Saux to win the World Series" 04 made all the previous loses worth waiting for
Red Sox break the Curse of the Bambino in 2004, White Sox break the Black Sox curse in 2005, Phillies break the William Penn curse in 2008, and as much as this stings me to say the Cubs break the Billy Goat curse in 2016.
And Cleveland still hasn't broken the curse of Rocky Colavito -- 78 years and counting with no World Series win, with excruciating losses in 1997 and 2016.
I'm a yankee fan and I was twelve years old when the Yankees blew the 3-0 lead. But I couldn't help but cheer for the Red Sox. They totally deserved it. If you are a fan of the game you should appreciate what was accomplished.
My grandma was born in 1910, she passed in January 2005 at 94. I called her the night the Red Sox beat the Cardinals and she literally said, "I know, I can die now". That can't be written. She, and my dad's side of the family is from Middleboro, Massachusetts.
This documentary gets to me every time. I was seven when they won it, but watching this documentary has always been one of my favorites. I can relate as a Boston fan to what loyalty is. Thanks for posting this!
I Hear Boston is a Nice City BTW and I Think Boston is More Of a Baseball City Since The Red Sox Have Been In Boston More Then The Bruins and Patriots!
I love the fact that they did this Documentary right before the Red Sox won the World Series and went back to add to the Documentary after winning it. Get a kick out of that for some reason lol
Final out renteria was wearing #3 how fitting for it to end that way. Thank you from Southbridge Mass... tears of joy. I miss my mom so much after seeing this
I remember being a frashman in high school when and when Aaron Boone hit his home run in the 03 ALCS and cried myself to sleep that night. My mom hugged me and she said to me I'm sorry you had to see this. But will see it soon. A year later they won it.
I was a junior in high school I did the same thing cried myself to sleep. Then got up for school the next morning I was numb & I walk in class & my history teacher who I can call an asshole now cause we are good friends he wrote on the board "Patrick Gray Theeeeeee Yankees Win." I was just sick.
They need to make a documentary like this about the Cubs now. Been a Cubs fan forever, I don't think the shock of seeing them do it will wear off for a very long time.
Game 7 was a test of heart. Indians still came within one run in extra innings and it could've ended either way. Incredible game. The 2004 ALCS was a treat to watch the whole way through.
I have been a Red Sox fan my whole life. After this series win the first thing I said was " now I hope the Cubbies finally win it all ". I was pulling so hard for the Cubs to win it all this past year. I swear I am a die hard Sox fan through all the bad times and finally the great times, but I was just as happy when the Cubs pulled it off. Congrats to the Cubs for also breaking their curse.
Randy Cable....Die hard Sox fan here, since 1967, but I agree with you, in fact, my dream world series was a Sox Cubs Series and nobody wins, lol, I know stupid.
I was about 10 years old when they won. I remember sobbing and praying to god during that Yankees series. I had pretty much given up and I think after I stopped watching that that’s when they started winning. I will never forget this series.
In 2004 they had to fight tooth and nail to win it all and end the curse. 2018 was the first time the Sox just completely outclassed every other team in baseball. If they hang on to all that incredible young talent, with Mookie and Bogey and Rafi and Benny... they could create a new dynasty. I really think this might be the first team since the 2000 Yankees to repeat.
I'm a Red Sox fan who is not from Boston. I became a Red Sox fan on October 10, 2016. My wife and I had been in Boston visiting that week and our last day there was October 10, 2016, the last game for Big Papi and the day we got to see Fenway for the very first time in person. I've never been a Red Sox fan but the end of this documentary always gets to me. What a time it must have been to live in the New England area when they won in '04.
Let's be real here, The Boston Red Sox of the 2000's had great teams just like the Yankees did. Just look at that lineup and pitching staff, so I was not surprise that they went on to finally beat the Yankees in the playoffs and win the World Series a few times, and this is coming from a Yankee fan
Game 7 vs the Yanks 04 I was working at a restaurant in Uxbridge, MA. Completely dead. A yell outside the kitchen from the hostess. "Bases are loaded for Damon". I run to the bar. As I step to the tv he smoked that ball to the high rise. All 4 people in the room jump 5 feet in the air. A memory I will never forget.
Something I think people forget about that Homer by Ortiz in game 4…. They never lost again that post season. They won 4 straight against NY and then they swept St. Louis. It was a magical time
As a New Yorker and a BIG Mets fan, I’ll never forget ‘86 as a kid...but I will definitely never forget 2004, when they came back and beat the Yanks that year. I rooted for the Red Sox and hoped that they somehow would come back and beat the Yankees. When they came back and won the pennant, I felt in my heart at that time that the Cardinals had no shot. It was a bright moment from the misery of losing my mother-in-law tragically during that time, so it gave me a little solace. To see them win it over the other New York team a couple of more times made it all the more sweeter.
Waited my whole life for any championship. The Phillies delivered in 2008 but when the Eagles finally brought home a Lombardi it made dealing with everyday life a lot easier. Now I need a Stanley cup.
My mom and I watched the Boston redsox win the 2013 World Series unfortunately that was the last World Series we watched she passed away a few months later I hold the Boston redsox dear to my heart
I will never forget it. I only wish my dad was alive. He was a big sox fan. He even took my mother to a game on there wedding day. My address at the time was 1918
Even Though I'm Not a Red Sox Fan Being a Phillies Fan Since the 90's Growing Up in NJ I Felt So Bad For Them Without 86 Years Winning a World Series Until 2004 Go Phillies!
Miss translation. Bambino they thought was about the baseball player- Babe Ruth. Which is incorrect- my grandmother's name in this life was Ruth Ross, who is the daughter of Edda May Mchesney selected gate keeper of Isadore. As explained its in regards to Joe Dimaggio.
2004 was a historical year for baseball. As a Red Sox fan, it was an incredible comeback, from 0-3. I thought it was done, after the first three games, and I will admit, Red Sox did get lucky to come back. Had to have luck on our side, to see the Greatest Comeback in Sports History in 2004. It's amazing, still share my stories, and where I was, and what I was doing on October 20th, 2004, and October 27th, 2004. I knew the Red Sox were not losing the World Series to St. Louis, after beating the arch rivals from New York. Payback for 2003, 1978, and 1949. For all the Red Sox Great's, Red Sox fans in Boston, state of MA, and all of New England. Feels good to this day. 2004, 2007, and 2013. Many more Red Sox Championships to keep on coming.
+Sean Mahon well said! I was born raised and curently live in Texas...been a die hard Red Sox fan since 2002..i was always interested in the Red Sox even before then but didnt become a true fan until about 2001-2002....dont ask why cause i never really can pinpoint or think of a good answer....as u can imagine i get A LOT of flack for being a native Texan born and raised and a Red Sox fan espicially since most Texans are die hard Astros...so just a HUGE fan living in small town Texas lol...2004 ALCS was a truly beautiful moment as well as the WS

I'm so glad I got to watch the Red Sox win the best world series ever in 04 and then again in 07 and in 2013. I feel so bad for the fans that didn't get to see them win a world series. Go Sox
Jeff Froment Actually I thought the alcs was more exciting than the world series was. 2004 was special because of the curse, but 2013 was a much more exciting world series
I like how this doc does drive home how the wheels were already coming off before Bill Buckner missed the ball. He didn't deserve all of the blame. The only thing he could have done differently apart from not playing was have a newer, tighter glove.
P.S.: Ruth was not the only good player sold to the Yankees by the Red Sox. There were quite a few, begining with Carl Mays. Ban Johnson, President of the American League, tried unsuccessfully to prevent Mays' sale to the Yankees.
My boss was trying to give away a single ticket to Game 4 with the Yankees. No one wanted it. So I took it, being a Red Sox fan since 1975 when I was 14. Best game of my life.
I don't care what anyone says, I don't blame Buckner for that error in the 1986 World Series. I blame John McNamara for putting Buckner on first base while he was injured. I also blame Bob Stanley for not pitching correctly. 2004, a lot of Red Sox fans were elated that they won. They were happy again in 2007. But 2013, Red Sox win the World Series at Fenway, the whole city of Boston justifiably went nuts.
I'm a diehard sox fan way up in Vancouver BC and watching 04 again I get the same emotional reaction re- living that as well ,and nothing for me in sports will ever equal that, I remember too saying no way i'm watching game 4 this is all too painful, but I kept checking in from time to time and was again watching in extra innings when they won and of course tuning in for the rest of the greatest comeback ever, like one guy in the film said it still to this day it feels like some kind of dream, but it wasn't. So here we are in 2016 and the team again is awesome i'm so excited about the newer players as well as Pedroia and Ortiz, we have an excellent shot to win our 4th world series this century, more than any other team, but if its not us go Cubs go I feel their pain.
Chris Buck.....When we won in 04, I did not scream, I did not jump, I sat on the floor and wept, just wept, it was so emotional for me, I have seen with my eyes so many disappointments, been a Sox fan 1967 and had been waiting for that all my life, it was just, unreal. I am now 60, and will NEVER forget it.
Yankees fans always say "27" but I wouldn't trade this one for 100. NYC fans will never have as meaningful and amazing championship as this one. Not. Even. Close.
E Davis I was brought in this world in 2000, a world where the Sox still were dealing with the curse. And at a young age I understood about the curse. But watching them win, i didn’t think much of it. But now looking back it’s incredible. I frankly don’t care that Now we have 9 championships, the 04 championship is the most meaningful and emotional championship in sports history
20 of the 27 Championship's were from 1923 to 1962 . Most of us weren't even born. From 1977 to 2009 they have won 7. Since 2004 Sox's have won 4 . As far as I'm concerned it's 7 to 4 and the Soxs are catching up .
Notice how much the players kept gesturing upward when they broke the curse. Greed will never survive God's mercy. I was 13, and will always be a Sox fan. What an amazing comeback.
If Cleveland do it, they better finish it at the Jake. Hopefully there will be a big celebration with fireworks and old school hip hop. That will be exciting
Love this ! I’m a huge Boston Red Sox fan since I was 13 years old ! Remember the 75 series, miss school to watch the one game playoff in 1978 against the Yankees , heart broke ! 86 series and so forth . The world or the moment went into slow motion of game 4 of the 2004 World Series. The last out ,the ball slowly goes into the pitcher’s glove he turns toward first ! I’m thinking “ WOW ! “ it’s really going to happen! Time stop for me right there ! The ball goes toward first , OUT ! Boston Wins the World Series! WOW ! Boston Wins the World Series! 💪😎👍🍻🍻🍻🍻⚾️
I'll never forget that year. Watching them come back against the Yankees was the greatest thing in sports history. Baseball will never be that fun to watch again.
I don't like how they portray Bob Stanley, how they paint him as some nothing reliever, and act like he's not a 2-time All Star who still holds the Red Sox record for appearances and relief wins, and is 2nd behind Papeldouche in saves.
Im a twins fan born and raised. But Ill never forget sitting on the couch with my dad as a kid watching game 7 of the 04 world series. Final out he turns to me and says "son you just witnessed history". Thanks sox
My Grandmother died at 83 in 2006 and she was still always happy at the end that she got to see the Sox win a world series
God bless you
I lost my mother in 92 and she was the first person I thought about

Lenny fuckin Clarke nice haha
Just saw this and it made me tear up. My grandma was the hugest Sox fan and she passed away in 2013 just a few months after they won the World Series that year.
It was an honor to be interviewed and filmed for this documentary. Congratulations, George Roy, on a fantastic job.

Newton isn’t Boston just saying no one has that accent there
I’ve watched it about fifty times,..it never gets old
I'm a fan of another "cursed" team: the Milwaukee Brewers.

As a yankee fan, I give you my condolences and respect. Yankees can’t win it every year.
My condolences. I’m a diehard Red Sox fan to.
The curse was over after Ted Williams died. He got to baseball heaven, grabbed a hold of Babe Ruth and told him it was over.
"There's a new Ghost Sherrif in town, Babe!"
Then they went and had a beer together

For me I felt like the curse broke when Curt Schilling played the game of his life............ In a sock he made red with his own blood. in a game where he actually gave his blood sweat and tears.
GOOD ONE LOL
@@bad74maverick1 Schilling wasn’t even scheduled to pitch in game 6 of the 2004 ALCS
Die hard Yankees fan I am but I respected the Red Sox's will and determination that year. I was sad but glad that the Red Sox won that title that year. They earned it. 2004 was the year of Boston Red Sox.
MikeyRocks88 why can’t our fans(Yankees)be like you.

+Courtney Gibson Jr..... I am a Giants' fan living in Boston... take a wild guess who I'm rooting for this year.
Thanks. You know what I have to admit? There's a lot more classy sportsman Yankees fans then I ever realized before. Respect for sure.
Sox nation never count them our
As a Mets fan I couldn’t of been any happier 😎
Whoever is the composer of the music on the two HBO documentaries about the Red Sox should have won an award for the brilliant music he created to envision in the viewers' minds the anguish that Red Sox fans experienced for so many years watching their team repeatedly find new ways to blow a chance to win the World Series and then finally win it all!
Now I know how Red Sox fans felt when they ended their drought. CUBS WIN WORLD SERIES 2016❤️❤️❤️❤️
REALLY HAPPY for Cubs fans, honest. A Red Sox fan.
Despite I’m a yankee fan, I want to see the Cleveland Indians win a World Series in my lifetime. It’s now been 71 years.
Red Sox fans were all Cubbie fans after 2004.
That was longer than the Sox ..106 years ..Crikey !
Same here!
Congratulations, Red Sox. 2018 World Series Champions.

RIP Tim
The way it ended was just something out of a movie. Down 3 games to none against the very rival who "cursed" you, getting dickslapped 19-8 in game 3, and somehow battling back to exercise the demons to win the series 4 games to 3 and then win the championship in the next round? Perfection
The Yankees only scored 19 runs for that particular game. The next day was a new day. Maybe that’s what woke the Red Sox up.
I can't watch this without crying , it doesn't fail :(
So true.

Never fails to make me laugh 😂
The Red Sox owe HBO big time. They made the original documentary in 2003, then the next year Boston wins the World Series.
eat shit redsox rule
@Bourg Productions nope.
You call that poetry?
G. Lee That, uh, kinda is poetic
Another bit of poetry: The curse is 86ed, after 86 years.
after their collapse......in 1986
It has a certain circular irony to it for sure.
That’s my dad at 4:37, not his voice doing the voice over but it’s crazy this is on UA-cam after over 20 years, pretty cool
NewtonCountry You pretty much described what David Ross was for the Cubs in '16.
MISTERComaToes The Yankees say hello
And Tom Brady married his sister.
I'm proud of this documentary, it changed my life and changed the Redsox Organization
it was a great moment to watch indeed
Arlis Martinez: it did happen in the 1942 Stanley cup finals. The Toronto Maple Leafs were down 3 games to 0 to The Detroit Redwings. and they came back to win the Stanley Cup.
@@josephasner171 I think he ment in baseball history
As a Giants fan I had my '04 Sox fan moment in 2010. I was only 33 when they finally won so I'd only had about 25 years of misery and disappointment. I felt great and it was one of the few times I cried watching sports. It's amazing what something even as silly as sports can mean to you.
And who hit the series winning run? Edgar Renteria, the last out in the 2004 World Series. He was instrumental in breaking two curses.
The world and time itself stopped for Boston
I’m a diehard Red Sox fan. I started liking them in 2003 and I won’t stop now. The end of this documentary makes me emotional. Showing those who were dead and couldn’t witness this. The 04 season was by far the best season the Red Sox ever had.
Mike,
I think the biggest coincidence about this entire story is after 8 decades, they make a documentary chronicling the futility of the Red Sox and then end up winning the Fall Classic the very next season!! That is where the irony lies for me. I'm not even a baseball fan. I live in Montana. I've never played the game. The history of baseball as it pertains and parallels to America is an amazing story. It's a very patriotic story. And the Red Sox have been there since day one. Thanks again my friend...
Jeff Legg
Great Falls, Montana
+Jeff Legg Um hello... they made this documentary about the 2004 team AFTER they won.. That's the whole point. A quick google search could have told you that. One of my very good friends from Montana is a season ticket holder at Fenway. You don't have to live in a major league baseball city to follow the sport or check your facts.
Sue Reashore So you might want to check YOUR facts before trying to educate a perfect stranger.
Steve Gallegos Thanks Steve...
+Jeff Legg Care to elaborate?
+Sue Reashore he's referring to the original documentary from 2003 of which this documentary is a folow up to
As a Clevelander, the Red Sox story is something I can relate to.
Don't forget Alex Gonzalez as well.
Yeah man. Don't remind me. You know what? I think once the pitching staff melts down everyone else just gets so nervous, it's like this slippery slope. Everyone's thinking "Don't blow it, we got this game in the bag." and then everyone just starts screwing up royally.
That Cubs vs Red Sox World Series would have been amazing.
If memory serves correctly, he led all shortstops in fielding percentage that year... sometimes it just doesn't go your way
Buckner deserved to be there ,to bad he had bad ankles ..ect. but he earned his way there ,was a clutch hitter too.
From a Cardinals fan. Though it sucked, I say that if we had to lose a World Series, it was good that it was Boston.
steve-o l Thank you, class act!!!
Respect on the sportsmanship. Hey man 2004 was a sweep but 2013 was an all out war. Could have gone either way. The Cardinals always find a way to be in the mix somehow. It's pretty cool.
steve-o l My daughter and I were in Busch for Game 4 and I will never forget the graciousness of the Cards fans. Great baseball city indeed.
Steven Stocker If the Bruins had to lose the Cup final, it was good to see the Blues get it.

20 years later. This win still gives me tears. Thank you Red Sox

-Love Every Cubs fan
PS: Would've been nice if you could've helped us out in the '05 ALDS, though.
Two greatest franchises in baseball, Red Sox and Cubs, PERIOD. Just my opinion
What does the billy goat and the curse of the Bambino have in common? THEO EPSTEIN!! GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️!
Dorinda Thurman maybe Theo should be involved in basketball and reverse the curse for the Knicks
Sox fan here but it was sweet to watch the Cubs choke the Indians in 2016 lol.
imagine if the 2004 WS was Sox vs Cubs......what a story that'd be
Watched Malice last week and I still smile when Bill Pullman says" what does anyone want, I want the Red Saux to win the World Series" 04 made all the previous loses worth waiting for
This made me cry. Remembering those emotions I had in that moment. Great, great time of my life.
honestly the best time of my life. and then two more times since then. GO SOX FOREVER
Many Congrats!!!
Another one in 2018 and possibly in 2021 as they pull a huge upset against the Rays
I miss my mom so much after seeing this
And then the next season, joins Boston to replace Orlando Cabrera.
I can’t believe it’s been almost 15 years since this happened, and I’m still in shock.
I watch reruns of the 2004 World Series over and over and STILL think the Sox are going to blow it every time.
I was about 10 years old when they won. I remember sobbing and praying to god during that Yankees series. I had pretty much given up and I think after I stopped watching that that’s when they started winning. I will never forget this series.
who's here after seeing the 2018 redsox win the world series?! #DoDamage!

Haha for sure, love you Boston
In 2004 they had to fight tooth and nail to win it all and end the curse.
2018 was the first time the Sox just completely outclassed every other team in baseball. If they hang on to all that incredible young talent, with Mookie and Bogey and Rafi and Benny... they could create a new dynasty. I really think this might be the first team since the 2000 Yankees to repeat.
Carlos Diaz Who’s here after the Red Sox cheated and Cora was fired?

4 in 15! Things changed and I’m blessed to have seen it
The last 5 minutes gets me choked up every time I watch it. I’m a Phillies fan but there was no team like the 04 BoSox.
I still cry of happiness and that curses can be broken not matter how strong they are.......
So I've been a die-hard Brewers fan since being born in 1969.... Can I cry now?
Something I think people forget about that Homer by Ortiz in game 4…. They never lost again that post season. They won 4 straight against NY and then they swept St. Louis. It was a magical time
I'll never forget an Ortiz home run
I live in N. Ca when Barry Bonds "broke" the record, the radio signal went dead, we didnt hear the cal.....
It's sad that the guy Peter Casey died in August of 2004. He just missed seeing it happen.
All they could do for those 86 years was not sob.
You know, "Boston" spelled backwards?
Waited my whole life for any championship. The Phillies delivered in 2008 but when the Eagles finally brought home a Lombardi it made dealing with everyday life a lot easier. Now I need a Stanley cup.

I will never forget it. I only wish my dad was alive. He was a big sox fan. He even took my mother to a game on there wedding day. My address at the time was 1918

Janine Lea Couldn't agree more.
I like how this doc does drive home how the wheels were already coming off before Bill Buckner missed the ball. He didn't deserve all of the blame. The only thing he could have done differently apart from not playing was have a newer, tighter glove.
Ya he gets too much blame morons forgot lead was blown at that point already
P.S.: Ruth was not the only good player sold to the Yankees by the Red Sox. There were quite a few, begining with Carl Mays. Ban Johnson, President of the American League, tried unsuccessfully to prevent Mays' sale to the Yankees.
Baseball historians have pointed to his failure to stop that trade as the beginning of Ban Johnson’s downfall.
When I watched the 2004 playoffs I thought of my late great grandfather and thinking I wish he could have seen it happen for himself
My boss was trying to give away a single ticket to Game 4 with the Yankees. No one wanted it. So I took it, being a Red Sox fan since 1975 when I was 14. Best game of my life.
Never get tired of hearing it!
Congratulations to the 2018 ALCS Champions the Boston Red Sox!!!!
After 32 yrs of waiting, the Dodgers FINALLY did it.
Dodgers ain't cursed because they kept the Curse of A-Rod on the Yankees again.
" no way i'm watching game 4 this is all too painful, but I kept checking in from time to time"
Chris Buck.....When we won in 04, I did not scream, I did not jump, I sat on the floor and wept, just wept, it was so emotional for me, I have seen with my eyes so many disappointments, been a Sox fan 1967 and had been waiting for that all my life, it was just, unreal. I am now 60, and will NEVER forget it.
Bucky Dent, "sounds like a swear", LOL
I'm going to 2017 opening day tomorrow and boy am I excited. Can't wait to see them win another world series this year!
Well, you were only one year out...
Yankees fans always say "27" but I wouldn't trade this one for 100. NYC fans will never have as meaningful and amazing championship as this one. Not. Even. Close.
E Davis the biggest championship drought was only 18 years from 1978 to 1996. It was a tough moment for us yankee fans
Good to know you'd take 86 years of losing over a dynasty
Courtney Gibson Jr It was 20 years, from the team's inception in 1903 to the first World Series championship in 1923
E Davis I was brought in this world in 2000, a world where the Sox still were dealing with the curse.
I am a Dodgers fan and was actually happy for the Cubs. Cleveland I hope you will be next
If Cleveland do it, they better finish it at the Jake. Hopefully there will be a big celebration with fireworks and old school hip hop. That will be exciting
Love the Sox !!! Hopefully get to see my first game in Boston in September 🙌🏼🙌🏼
I still have chills when I see this ..

I'm a Yankee fan and I gave respect to the Red Sox after winning the 2004 WS
Epic. Will never forget this.
DAVID ORTIZ I LOVE YOU 💔
I'll never forget that year.
Thanks sox
As a Phillies Fan I Love Watching This Even Though I'm Not a Boston Red Sox Fan!
But they did have their moment in 2008
Thank U David Ortiz And Pedro Martínez Guys From Dominican Republic To The World
