I made a mental note to look it up one day, and the ten-twenty years after that, when Crunchy-roll became a thing, I still didn't. But now? _Accidental closure!_
I love that you started by assessing the story that this should have had before dropping the bombshell about the insane SF subplot. Also, only true PS2-era men of culture will recognise that song at the end. 👍
I was convinced you were going to say that Urushihara really likes breasts. It's true, after all. On a serious note, it really sounds like this anime deserves a re-edit to cut it down to just the wrestling plot.

A few things: 1) I believe women's wrestling would've/could've/should've been bigger in the US IF the bookers didn't feel as thought it should be handled by power hungry snakes at the top (*cough* Fabulous Moolah *cough*) or that they only need to be the same basic matches in skimpy clothes with 3 whole minutes of time given to them. Japan's women scene had a wonderful depth of talent and treated more seriously; things that always help in wrestling. WWE, Impact wrestling, & AEW at least have a great group of women talent now (in some cases on the company, despite themselves). 2) I could recognize Kenichi Sonoda designs from space; I always appreciate them for at least the same reason as others do. They are all distinct and not to an insulting level of absurdity on how unique. 3) 17:00 That's the reaction of a lot wrestling fans when something stupid and nonsensical occurs because the bookers thought it would be a good idea. Oh you need a list of those?; Well I don't have that kind of time because it would be about a 87 hour write up. Japanese Wrestling always had BOTH men AND women superstars, while here in the good ‘ol USofA, we had Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Randy Savage AKA Macho Man and those juicy storylines.

The Anime and the Wrestling Genre mesh well together it's a shame that it doesn't get enough appreciation.

The problem with this anime is that they should’ve focused more on the Wrestling and dropping all that Science Fiction to the drain.

Unfortunately there isn’t a single decent anime on wrestling out there. And don’t come up with tiger mask or kinikkuman.
Anime about sports with a majority of a female cast tends to use a Lot of fanservice.
