Am I the only one who notices that the 80s for japan was like the 50s for America? I kinda wish that City pop was better known in the west, because something about it is just-Fantastic.
where do you watch it?
I’m from a small town in Arizona, and I can can give sworn testimony that the 80s didn’t officially end until 1992, so this movie is definitely an 80s flick.
ty for putting a small spotlight on takako mamiya! think she's great and im glad to see her get some recognition even in a small way.
the last song in the end by toshiki kadomatsu tore my heart into little pieces and crushed them. then burned them.
This is one of those shows that I regret not watching at night when I watched the 1st time.
Also the Boys Boys Boys song was a beautiful addition to the soundtrack.
Who did that song?
@@Laidengizer011 Sabrina Salerno. It's an Italian production
@@mariuspoppFM thank you
nice to see my man kenny lauderdale get a shout out plus a recommendation for a another old anime for me to try out.
This anime really has the 80's to a tea. And I bet the soundtrack must be so good that should be consider illegal
Shame there was never an official soundtrack. But then again, it would also be incredibly difficult to find.

If A Goofy Movie is a time capsule of the 90s for animation form for America, then yeah Nineteen19 should be THE time capsule for the 1980s era of JP
1990 is still the '80s culturally in terms of just about everything. The next decade had to gradually work its way in throughout 91.
Ah, and it has Hiromi Tsuru voicing Fujisaki. She did so much great work in the 80s and 90s. Dragon Ball, Kimagure Orange Road, Ranma 1/2... It was always a pleasure to hear her voice. RIP.
Awesome video! I love city pop and 80's anime soo... kanpeki da!

Well after watching your video. I found the anime on UA-cam. I wasn’t prepared for the feels. Thanks a lot.
I owe like half of my music taste to this anime. I first watched it about 13 years ago but Toshiki kadomatsu and showji kumi are still some of my favourite artists!
How could I've never heard of this? thanks for sharing!
I just had to leave a comment on this video: I came across this OVA when I found a comment under Toshiki Kadomatsu's Desire saying someone had come here from the OVA, and when I looked it up, I decided to watch it. I came across this video just before I was about to watch it - I love your video!
99% of the songs featured are familiar to me - my city pop journey started in December 2019 with Plastic Love, and I discovered Tears Ballad by Toshiki Kadomatsu earlier this year, and I was listening to Desire the whole time after I found out that the girl I was going to confess to already had a boyfriend...sometimes with city pop even if you don't know what the lyrics mean, you can feel them.
I'm looking forward to watching Nineteen19!
Loved the city pop section
Your videos are super underrated dude! I found your channel through Night On The Galactic Railroad and you made me check out Catnapped, which is now one of my favorite movies ever! Thank you for these awesome vids! (:
Thanks for introducing me to this fantastic OVA!
Good news! It "technically" still is an 80's anime, because in counting the decades, the actual period starts with the "X1" year, the "X0" year is considered the last year of the previous decade. The media and culture usually bear this out too, when looking at most films from 1990 you would assume they are 80s films, because... THEY ARE!
The opening bit makes me wanna see you cover Jin Roh one of these days...
That Spider-Man clip. Lol!
I learned so much good info wow, and this was masterfully edited too. Bravo!
I'm glad u always dish out these great reviews. I now have another good OVA to check out
I'm so glad I watched this video (referenced in others - been jumping around through your catalog). I wouldn't have watched this when I was younger and first getting into anime in the mid-90's, but a little older, wiser, more appreciative of this form of storytelling, and much more nostalgic, I would certainly watch this again and again now.
Would you say its accurate to classify futurefunk a revival of citypop?
The advent of future funk is the reason why city pop itself is having a revival of sorts. But I'd say future funk is more of a revival of classic, sample-based house music than of city pop.
Just discovered your channel from this vid, you are very underappreciated! good stuff
The one English dialog song you played is Sabrina Selerno's "Boys (Summertime Love)" from 1987. The official music video, which is really sexy, can be viewed here: ua-cam.com/video/4K2jkNGHZsM/v-deo.html

80s Anime is literally the type of Anime that we in the west never got until well after it was already finished.
I do remember watching the 80s Astro Boy on early morning TV as a kid when I was originally waking up early to catch a completely different cartoon, the 80s Dennis the Menace was the show I wanted to watch as a kid so I woke up early just to watch Astro Boy to make sure I didn't miss the start of the cartoon after that.
As well as that Wizard of Oz anime from the 80s the one where it took elements of 3 or 4 of the books well after the original 30s movie ended.
This is the first video that I stumbled across when I first started watching your channel and I could say so far I’m already liking your content 😄
Trivia: The lady that plays Fujisaki is none other than the late great Hiromi Tsuru. Best known for playing Bulma from the Dragonball franchise, Ukyou from Ranma 1/2, Madoka from Kimagure Orange Road & a bunch of others 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Good review, I just got venus wars and angel cop in the mail cant wait to watch them AGAIN ahaha it feels good to add them to my collection

Hey do you have a copy of the AVI file for this? Im looking for one in the correct aspect ratio and it seems to be gone from the internet. Torrent is dead.
Not sure if it's the right aspect ratio but I might have it from years ago, I'll check my laptop!

I always become interested in the topics of your videos so I end up having to pause them in order to watch them. Then I have to come back to finish the video. You do a great job. Do you have any information on "Genmu senki leda" from 1985?
Dude your channel needs to blow the fuck up because your videos are crushing it.
Minor nitpick at 1:11. I would caution against adding an "s" to the end of a romanized Japanese word as Japanese does not have the concept of a plural form of a noun. The correct romanization of the Japanese characters you display below is "keiretsu", not "keiretsus".
Okay, since nobody else has I´m going to point it out: the MC looks like Guts from Berserk.
The AD calendar starts with year 1, and not year 0, so decades begin with year 1 too, thus the 80s went from 1981 to 1990. I know, I'm a horrible nitpicky nerd and most people will never agree with my blasphemous calendar interpretation, but it's the only thing I can add to your brilliant video! Why don't you have more views, yikes! Good job man!
It was bugging me how he kept referring to this as an 80s anime when it did come out mid-90s, but then he tied it back to the 80s, so it was all buenos.
1990, not mid 90s
There is some kind of trope about pastry chefs being gay. It's probably related to "making pretty desserts" being stereotypically female, while professional chef is stereotypically male.
