Quick overview of the Mossberg 590 Shockwave JIC in 12 gauge. I was interrupted by a very large group of snow geese. This thing is fun. This is a different kind of firearm. While it is a little hard to hold, and we're not sure exactly what it's best use is. it's definitely fun to shoot, so that works for us.

Lol. I got two, the night stick and the FDE model. It has a bead for a reason lol. You can throw it up and actually aim it you know. I never shoot them ( or any gun) without aiming and I've never been hit in the face. I'm 180 lbs and 5,11 so I'm no horse or anything either.
I will be releasing another video on this eventually. I was just too biased when I made this. And it’s actually great for feral hog hunting. I aim it with buckshot no problem.
I don’t mind that so many peeps label the shockwave as a hip fire only gun that’s only good for range fun. The less popular this gun is, the less likely the ATF will change their mind and come for it like they’re currently doing with pistol braced ARs
Its meant to be put on a boat or airplane as a survival tool. Thats why the case says JIC on a bright orange tube. I had one but it was the Marine Cruiser model and the finish held up well near the ocean.

I like these videos cause after further practice and shooting it always turns out you can’t judge a book by its cover. This firearm is truly special.
Yeah that’s why I’m leaving it up. Great firearm to have with you in many different scenarios. Still think it’s horrible for home defense but it has many practical other uses. Sequel coming as soon as we finish the other stuff we’re trying to wrap up!

I use the mossberg nightstick as a wildlife defense shotgun when I'm scouting game trails up here in BC. You can't carry pistols in Canada (in fact, handguns are frozen now). It's a light, easy to pack shotgun. Performs well with low-recoil slugs. It's my JIC I run into an angry bear or mountain lion at close range.
@Ghost_In_The_Machine agree. Encounters like that are super rare up here, but not impossible lol. Saw a pretty wild video from up here a few years ago. Dude shot a charging bear with a shotgun, but only had birdshot. Stopped the bear for about 2 seconds. Gave him just enough time to run into his house 0_0

Excellent point. I use this shotgun as a defense gun when boar hunting at high traffic areas. Love it for that. It excels in the field. I need to make a new video about this thing but havn’t gotten to it. It’s a great gun for what you’re describing.
@@UnprofessionalOutdoors I have no issue holding the gun a few inches in front of my face and using the bead sight to aim as well. Even with full size HV slugs. A couple practice seasons, and I have no problem hitting manageable targets from 40 yards or closer. With some training the gun is effective in its roll for sure.
You are miles off on this handy dandy fireman man Practice at a range and get to know it one of the best small packages with a big bite
I’m sure you’re right. As a hunter I think I started biased. I have started carrying it with me with buckshot when I fill feeders during hog hours. I like it more and more. Will probably make another video and shoot it a few hundred times to really feel it out.

Should buy the Opsol Texas Miniclip 2.0 for $15. Then, you can shoot Federal or Aguila Minishells as well. Talon Grips makes precut grip tape for this and pachmayer grips makes a rubber grip cover for it. You can buy tactical arm braces that are not considered stocks as well. Plus, any other mod for a 500/590 Mossberg. If you buy a sling, get one with weight or friction at the hinges, because the sling will fly up in front of the barrel. After shooting 3 nylon slings, I purchased a leather one. If you install a side saddle shell holder, don't over tighten because you can actually squeeze the aluminum reciever together.
Or get the 590s and it will cycle short shells with no adapter

Indeed. When I have time I’m doing another video on it since I’ve spent a lot of time with it hunting now. But I like leaving this video up because it gets people fired up.

If you're willing to jump through the hoops with the ATF, a 14" shotgun with a stock that holds 5+1 is extremely useful if you spend time in the backcountry. A 12 gauge still gets excellent velocity out of a 14-15" barrel. Even out of a 12" it doesn't lose too much.
In Canada we can get these directly in SBR version without jumping through too many hoops, if you can believe it.

I love my 590S! With Aguila short shells, it is even more fun to shoot!

There was a decision in Westchester County of NYS in January of 2021 which defined the Shockwave as an “other.” NOT what the BATFE defines it as-a “firearm.” I wonder if you could keep one loaded in a vehicle in NYS. My guess is no, but I think that you’d win the inevitable court case.
You can put a SB tactical brace on it and it will definitely do whateve a regular bigger 590A1 M88 etc etc will handle and it looks bad ass with the sb brace on it

Its made to leave on a boat, plane, or vehicle in case you get stranded somewhere. You can defend yourself and technically hunt with it. Theyve been making the JIC series long before the shockwave came out. Used to come with a compass, whistle, flint steel etc...

They are fun. Especially since they can be found in the $460 range, if you look/wait. OK ‘truck gun’. Decent ‘boat gun’, paired with defense and signal rounds. Pretty good backwoods predator defense (*for you Texans, ‘woods’ are many trees, gathered together in one place, often around mountains and rivers). Particularly when paired with mini shells, it finds its place in the universe fairly well. And it’s fun, too. 😁
The gun is wonderful. I just leave this video up at this point to get under people’s skin. Still going to make a follow up where we talk about how great it is.

You can get the basic model for about $450.

Home protection is what I’m talking about. That’s what people say this gun is great for, and it isn’t. Almost any handgun is a better option. Ever fired a 12 gauge indoors with no ear protection, in the dark? ( the state you would be in if someone broke into your home in the middle of the night). Using this for home defense in that situation would be like flash-banging yourself directly in the face.
By your video it looks like you’ve never shot a gun before. You can aim those you know you’ll be ok it won’t hurt you. You are way off and don’t know what your talking about. Shooting a 12g indoors is nothing even close to a flash bang to the face. Maybe if your using Incendiary rounds. Probably one of the best home defense guns you can possibly have.

@@UnprofessionalOutdoors it's more of a sidearm or secondary defense gun than a hunting gun. It is to shotguns, what a 500 mag s&w with 3.5" barrel is to handguns. If you got a some sort of 4 wheeler and you cruise around large property, this is the firearm to carry.
If you can't think of a way to make that an effective weapon better than other shotguns dude you need to stop making videos on firearms cuz you obviously have no clue what the hell you're talking about. Yes home security it's one of the best why would somebody need a smaller firearm in their home maybe we'll figure it out.
