Everybody else who tries to shoot this firearm makes it look sloppy as a soup sandwich. The methods you are demonstrating have always made sense to me, didn't take me very long to figure out either. I don't know why so many others aren't attempting this. Great video, thanks for sharing 👍
He's using birdshot obviously. Which is totally fine because he's going over technique, stance, and form. The first thing I noticed was how little kick this thing was giving him. Looks like he's using a 22 pistol. If you throw buckshot in that you better have adrenaline pumping through your veins or it's going to fly out of your hands or get you in the face. At least throw a pistol grip on it (Breacher's Grip Gen 3 to keep the overall length within legality) or a brace on top of that. You simply cannot use this firearm the way he is demonstrating when using maximum stopping power shells.
Thank you 7N6 for the great instructions/techniques! I will definitely put these to use when I take my Shockwave to the range for the first time. I also bought this gun for home defense.

Just shot my 590 Shockwave for the first time. Shot twenty 2 3/4 in 12 gauge slugs. Blasted the crap out of the target from 40 feet away. Shooting from the hip. Didn’t drop the gun or cut my thumb from the safety like you see on so many stupid videos about this gun. It’s definitely not useless. I wouldn’t shoot slugs with the gun near my face because of the bad ass recoil.

Been on the fence with the raptor grip. Put one on my PGO 18" Mossy, but didn't push forward with my weak hand. Safety was tearing up the webbing of my thumb. Two years later, the 590 Shockwave comes out, looks cool but... Decided to get one for an upcoming camping trip, for Copperheads and possible black bears. @@gerryohara763 I really like it. Thank you for sharing. I was thinking of putting a Magpul or an ATI T3 sdjustable stock. After watching your technique, I feel I should give the original grip a try. I just got a shockwave 590s. Would you recommend a crimson trace laser? It may help in shooting in the first position. Please guide.
This was really helpful, thanks a bunch! However, I do plan on buying one of these but in the new .410 version Mossberg put out. I'm not a big dude that can handle pg shotguns in 12. Does anyone think it's worth it. Or should I stop wimping out and just buy the 20 gauge?
Nick Nazem not much point in a .410.. The 20ga can be effective, but loading options are far more limited. Personally id just add an SB Tactical brace, or use low recoil loadings.
What ammo are you using? Even girly 1oz sport slugs at 1300fps have way more recoil from what I see here. Holding this gun in front of your sternum is asking for trouble for most people with shorter and weaker hands/arms. For average Joe first position is a good place to start and see how you handle the recoil.
I would recommend low recoil buckshot...since there are plenty of options. I don’t know what a “girly sport slug” is. Perhaps you mean a low recoil slug intended for LE/defense use? If you are too weak to prevent the gun from flying out of your grasp I would recommend not using a 12ga in the first place.
Very good pointers. Another video on Shockwave stressed: 1 Keep hand in loop 2 When sighting down the barrel and raptor grip is at the highest level, the gun should be as far as possible from face, to prevent kick injuring fave and teeth.
Slugs? I keep two, at the end of my side saddle, opposite of the rest (so I'm fully aware and have to physically flip the round to be consciously aware of what I'm about to do) just in case things get hardcore. Wish I didn't, but I have neighbors' houses around me. Slugs will penetrate car doors, let alone drywall. I would highly suggest that anyone loading their 12 gauge firearm with slugs do some research on how that might inadvertently affect those around them.
I'm picking one up next week and I appreciate the information. I want this to be a fun gun but I also think it could be a good gun to have beside me in the truck for long trips. I only have one major concern: How do I mount a bayonet?
Finally! Someone is taking me seriously! Thank you, UncleRyan. I decided to try attaching it to the grip like a gunstock war club. I just need a good heat shield to keep from burning my hand.
Why wouldn't it be a viable Self Defense option? I can always hit center mass with mine using 00 Buck or Slugs at 30'. I would add the push/pull technique to create inertia and looks like he was doing it in his demonstration but didn't mention it?
Great pointers. Does anyone know if it is legal in Pennsylvania to keep a loaded shockwave in your vehicle with a concealed carry permit? I know that the Shockwave has the "Firearm" classification, but not sure as to the legality of it in a vehicle.
Great introductory review for me because I just bought one of these a few weeks ago, but haven't shot it yet. If you could do this video again with better audio, it would be beneficial.
Have been looking for a video like this. Bought a Shockwave and cannot hit anything first time and from the hip. What blew my mind was the darn thing was deafening and fire came out of the barrel. I did not see this when you were shooting. I am also having trouble finding an instructor. I am 5 feet tall and weigh about 102 pounds. I wanted a shotgun for home defense, but the big ones were too large and heavy for me. The store sold me the last Shockwave they had. The ammo he said to use is Windchester PDX1. 410 Defender. It is skinny and 2 1/2 inches, 750 velocity. Will it shoot through a glass door without effecting performance?
Thinking about purchasing my first gun, been doing lots of research I’ve never owned or fired a gun before and this gun appeals to me as a fun take it out and shoot now and then but also a practical home defense tool. I’ve gotten so many different opinions on it I’m just not sure what to think some say the recoil is too much for a first time shooter some say with practice and patience I should be fine. Seeing it fired here with proper technique it dosnt seem so bad...
Joseph Vazquez I would not classify this as a beginner gun. The simple fact is a stockless gun is harder to shoot/control than one with a stock. I would save this one for after you get the hang of things.
If you're worried about recoil, Aguila offers 3 kinds of "mini" shells. All 1¾ inch, (vs 2¾ or 3 inch) slug, buckshot, and bird shot. Reduced recoil but they still pack a punch. Not cheap though. And you'll need a little OPSol miniclip™ adapter in order for them to cycle properly. Well worth it.
I'll try these stances out with my 20 Gauge next range trip. I found out at with my first try at point shooting it's not so easy as it looks on TV. TBH, I was dumbfounded by how poorly I did.
Are the three positions used based on the distance to the target or are they interchangeable. Meaning, can you use the thrust position at close range. Is the position used based upon the distance to the target.
My tax return just found a use! lol... I will save this vid as my go-to "instructions" when I start breaking the gun in. It may be used as a truck gun, and if I get confident with it, I may use it for home defense. Either way, I'd like to somehow mount a light. Thanks for your time and expertise. The audio wan't that bad at all!
Do you find it shoots high of the bead? I have a clone tac14 I had it out today and I found I would have to aim about 8" low on the target or I wouldn't hit it.
Great video and training! I live in St Joseph, MO and I was just told during a conversation I was having with a fellow worker, that the city of St Joe will be putting a new law on the books. It is to have all citizens that have any firearm only shoot a person below the knee that is breaking into your home. Where do I live, California, New Jersey? I am trying to find confirmation on this at this time.
I have a Shockwave how's the felt recoil I have yet to shoot it and how do you feel about it as a home defense for a studio apartment as well as a car gun
TTremain Dorsey It should not replace a stocked long gun...it can however be used to augment your arsenal. Its size does lend it to being stored in places normally reserved for handguns. Your individual skill and specific needs should be the basis for its practical application. As for recoil, that is subjective. My advice would be to start with light game loads and work your way up until you figure out what your comfortable with...
Uniform Tango 74 I'm picking up my mossberg 590 tomorrow up here in pa, I'm surprised Texas would have you wait for having similar gun laws, I didn't realize you have a channel and will be checking it out now
My Shockwave arrived yesterday. I put a picatiny rail on it and a small green laser on that. At 50 feet I put 6 of my hand load slugs into a single hole not much larger than a hen's egg. Then on flyer to somewhere. lol I need to lower POI by about 5" and to left about 5" as soon as if figure out how the adjustments work.Another 6 shots at 100' and no hits on the target or backer (24" square). Will try buckshot soon.
I just got this gun and thanks for showing the 3 difference techniques. It was really helpful. This gun is not as easy as one may think to get rounds on target without making a trip to the dentist.
Desta Solomon Use low recoiling rounds till you get the hang of things. Low brass 1oz birdshot and Fiocchi buckshot are inexpensive and mild recoiling.. Then practice and figure out what recoil level your comfortable with..even low recoil 12ga packs a wallop on target..
I still say it would have been cool if Mossberg made the Shockwave to accept a bayonet. It wouldn’t have to be a full length bayonet just something in the 4-6” blade length would work.
Never shot this type of gun. Was looking at the Remington tac-14 at the gun shop and the Mossberg came up in my research. Why did the salesman tell me to shoot from the hip?
Jack Gold whatever you want. Start low, work your way up and find what your comfortable with. I like federal pd #4 buck 34 pellet... Its about in the middle recoil wise...
Maybe you could "re-shoot" the video with clearer audio... all fixed, no more grief from the ungrateful... Thanks for the effort and time to make the video... tips I will definitely try out next time I'm at the range.
Monkeybusiness lighten up ❄️. New camera..just how things go. It was addressed in the description. Also, it has been addressed multiple times in the comments. All future videos utilize an external 🎤.
Everytime i get a cool new gun my family members ask me "did u get a permit for that" Yeah its called the constitution "But did you get a permit' Some people legit dont understand guns are legal for citizens. Imagine needing a permit for a fucking pistol or a shotgun? Not even to conceal carry just to own it. Thats fucking insane. ..tax stamps are bad enough. U cant modify the shockwave in almost any way without a stamp
Do you need to pull your pants up, or are your legs really short for your body? I have that problem. I run around all day looking like "Dorf does construction." LOL
7N6 no I was just thinking about buying the Shockwave shotgun I just get a kick out a how people handle the gun in their videos you must be one of these extreme badass tactical guys huh maybe you should buy a microphone not that I was interested in your video anyway I don't need somebody to teach me how to use a shotgun I own a few of them
Seems to me this Shockwave just isn't a practical weapon to me. Not sayin' it wouldn't be a BLAST (pun intended) to shoot, however a Maverick would be a lot cheaper and probably better self defense gun. Although, there are thousands of folks who have plenty of cash to spare to buy this firearm. That's what makes America so great, if this thing is your cup of tea, by all means buy one and enjoy it. I'll pass. Besides, I already have 18 firearms and the wife would blow a gasket if I got another. So much for firearms freedom! I guess it's a great option and probably very practical for some folks. However, I'm in my late 60's and handicapped and even my 870P 12ga is getting to be too much. I still think that IF you have to shoot someone, (in self defense of course) you're gonna end up going to trial. The DA will have a field-day showing the jury your Mossberg Shockwave. The same LOOK that makes this weapon so cool also scares non gun owners. Nice video with some good tips, well done.
Marty Jewell you don't need magnum rounds to do the job. This thing is 26 inches long nice to set next to the bed in case some boogie men show up unexpected. I'm 60 in March 2018. Also you can use mini shotgun shells in this to get more rounds inside with a small adapter. Oh you want this little fellow old man.
Hey Tom, thanks for your input. First, why does it always have to be boogie MEN, why not boogie women. I knew some chicks in Brooklyn that came pretty close, yuck. Seriously, this does sound like a good weapon for defense. Although I've heard some bad stuff about Mini-shell reliability. My handicap now (after a 2014 auto collision) is a leg with nerve damage, a bad shoulder and three eye surgeries (same eye) that doc says NO MORE heavy kickin' guns. I'm quite spoiled having two functioning eyes and would prefer life this way. I did (in the early 80's) put a Pachmayr pistol grip on my 870P and that was brutal. About 1990 I got a Mossberg .410 camper (#50455) and with buck it's controllable and accurate. I KNOW, comparing a 12ga to .410 is like apples and oranges, or maybe apples and grapes. If they made a Shockwave in .410, that would be sweet. Still though, it would be very comforting to have a Shockwave 12ga around the ol' camp fire. Congrats on turning 60 next year! Stay healthy my friend.

I would highly suggest that anyone loading their 12 gauge firearm with slugs do some research on how that might inadvertently affect those around them.
Excellent how to video.
Excellent video well spoken
I'm picking one up next week and I appreciate the information. I want this to be a fun gun but I also think it could be a good gun to have beside me in the truck for long trips.
I only have one major concern:
How do I mount a bayonet?
topbreak38 lol.
Yeah, I got a similar response from Mossberg.
You should definitely mount it in some way to the pump forend so that you get a stabbing action as you pump the gun. ;-) It's gonna be epic!
Finally! Someone is taking me seriously!
Thank you, UncleRyan. I decided to try attaching it to the grip like a gunstock war club. I just need a good heat shield to keep from burning my hand.
I would imagine you could use the chainsaw mount, no?
New camera and lack of external mic led to low audio. Make sure to turn your app sound up, as well as speakers. It is audible with both turned up.
really enjoyed this video sir, I recommend a Rode professional mic, they are unreal. I use them on my channel. Subscribed. - Sam
Robert McClain Already done. Thanks for watching.
Will it shoot through a glass door without effecting performance?
janice plott highly unlikely
Thinking about making mine a SBS not sure though
7N6 yea I think I’m gonna get a full size Mossberg first start with bird shot and work my way up
Update...the sb tactical brace makes this viable for a broader range of folks.
Get a regular shotgun first. Or like a pistol carbine.
Thank you for this video
Excellent instruction.
Is the position used based upon the distance to the target.
francisco gomes its all situational...just like using a handgun...time, distance, weapon retention...
Thank you.
Helpful video - thanks!
Great video. I have an 870 tac14 and it definitely takes some practice to get comfortable with and to actually hit what your shooting at quickly lol.
Do you find it shoots high of the bead? I have a clone tac14 I had it out today and I found I would have to aim about 8" low on the target or I wouldn't hit it.
@@juliogonzo2718 my shockwave also fires a bit high
Great job. Audio was OK.
The video works and makes sense to me. ^5.
Lee Greger Thanks. That law sounds like bs rumor to me.
My advice would be to start with light game loads and work your way up until you figure out what your comfortable with...
nice group!
Great video.
Could you do the same thing to a double barrel shot gun?
Capt. Fluffy if it doesn't have a stock...I cant see why not....
Gotta wait til Sept for us Texans to own this...def want one though
Why is that ?
Uniform Tango 74 I'm picking up my mossberg 590 tomorrow up here in pa, I'm surprised Texas would have you wait for having similar gun laws, I didn't realize you have a channel and will be checking it out now
You don't have to!
The "Shockwave" amendment made it legal about two months ago!
You can get one today!
Excellent video and dialog, but the audio sucks sooooooooo bad that it nearly ruins your work.
Rooster external mic arrived today...
Ready for excellence!
Fantastic video, nothing wrong with audio at all, didn’t even have to turn up my iPhone all the way up to hear these clear instructions. Thank you!!!
Long Nguy Thanks, hope you find it helpful.
What loads are you shooting
bushman 223 Fiocchi 00 buck. However, I prefer Federal #4 buck PD 34 pellet for HD.
I still say it would have been cool if Mossberg made the Shockwave to accept a bayonet. It wouldn’t have to be a full length bayonet just something in the 4-6” blade length would work.
Are those low recoil rounds?
Hawk Eye medium...best way to describe...
Here we go again !
Sweet gun I'm getting one
Never shot this type of gun. Was looking at the Remington tac-14 at the gun shop and the Mossberg came up in my research. Why did the salesman tell me to shoot from the hip?
Thats what mossberg says to do. Probably because they dont want to be responsible for people trying to hold it up to their face and losing teeth.
what loads?
Jack Gold whatever you want. Start low, work your way up and find what your comfortable with. I like federal pd #4 buck 34 pellet... Its about in the middle recoil wise...
Maybe you could "re-shoot" the video with clearer audio... all fixed, no more grief from the ungrateful...
Thanks for the effort and time to make the video... tips I will definitely try out next time I'm at the range.
Sooo... Central Axis Relock? ;)
Josh Patterson ha, not really.
Recoil?
zhang1990327 www.dictionary.com/browse/recoil
I wonder if people are still suggesting that owning this firearm will get you violated in prison for 10 years.
Add a B-TAk Forearm Strap to your Shockwave for better ergonomics. Add Some Bling to YOUR STING! Try B-TAk.
Can not hear it looked really good tho
What’s he saying? 😯
Can't hear it.
Is your bellybutton sweaty or what?
A lapel microphone would do you and your channel a world of good.
Monkeybusiness media0.giphy.com/media/xT9DPhONuz1SpCONiM/giphy.gif
Well, looks like I'll be avoiding that "Like and subscribe button".
Monkeybusiness lighten up ❄️. New camera..just how things go. It was addressed in the description. Also, it has been addressed multiple times in the comments. All future videos utilize an external 🎤.
My comment wasn't rude. Your reply was. Best of luck to your channel.
No problem, content is still free for your viewing.
Turn the wind down ... jk. Good vid
Is it only me that can't hear whath he's saying?
chaudang1016 nope...make sure your device and app sound is turned up..sorry new camera..videos after have external mic..
First shot: 6:13. You're welcome.
?
Everytime i get a cool new gun my family members ask me "did u get a permit for that"
Yeah its called the constitution
"But did you get a permit'
Some people legit dont understand guns are legal for citizens. Imagine needing a permit for a fucking pistol or a shotgun? Not even to conceal carry just to own it. Thats fucking insane. ..tax stamps are bad enough. U cant modify the shockwave in almost any way without a stamp
Look into a brace.
Do you need to pull your pants up, or are your legs really short for your body? I have that problem. I run around all day looking like "Dorf does construction." LOL
SuperUncleRyan ha, short legs for my height..it's ok though..helps with shooting on the move..
Same here bud. If my legs matched my body, I'd be a foot taller. LOL Nice video. God bless,, carry on!!
Short people got nobody... but they can now have a Shockwave!
Your volume is too low to hear....have your microphone closer!
giphy.com/embed/xT9DPhONuz1SpCONiM"
Is be speaking? Would be helpful if he spoke.
Good job, just improve audio.
John M Already done.
Can't hear a thing. You need mic'd up!
Crank it up! And yes, I do need a mic...
My volume is maxed.... I have a 590 Shockwave on order. Anxious!
Have the volume up all the way and still can't hear the audio. Why is making youtube videos so hard for some people?
Caffeine&Nicotine why is it some people are so hard of hearing? Get better speakers.
very informative, I will keep your video for future reference
All this for two shots wow empty the gun
God or Nothing Muzic the video is about technique. It is up to you to go to the range and practice. Hope you found the free content useful.
Uhhhhh ok
Al Tay let me guess...you don't have a system with which you can turn up the volume enough? Or is there something you don't understand.....?
7N6 no I was just thinking about buying the Shockwave shotgun I just get a kick out a how people handle the gun in their videos you must be one of these extreme badass tactical guys huh maybe you should buy a microphone not that I was interested in your video anyway I don't need somebody to teach me how to use a shotgun I own a few of them
Al Tay nope...just trying to help folks out who have one....
7N6 thanks
