Yep it's a love hate relationship for 12 point bolts, they're impossible to strip but they're always in the worse places so you don't know it's a 12 point until you've tried for 10 minutes with a 6pt
Dont even think about it, just do it the M12 lineup is incredible the 3/8 stubby and I'd go with the first gen ratchet they have a smaller head, have had mine for years with no issues.nice set up
Good to know. I have a lot of M18 tools and now expanding into the M12 lineup. Already have the ratchets but will definitely add an M12 impact wrench when they go on sale
Great setup... you have most everything you'll need for most projects, and the best part is you can roll it right up to what you're working on. Thanks for sharing
About a decade ago, Eastwood was clearing out 1/4 and 3/8 Gearwrech 6-point master sets. I bought both along with a 12-point 3/8. Worked out great. Still use them with no plans to change. They were selling 60 tooth ratchets then. I'd picked up a 120XP last year. For the life of me, I can't really tell a difference in practice. Would like to check out their new 90 tooth ratchets. Supposed to be pretty strong, though I've yet to break a GW ratchet. I'm not a heavy duty user, that being said.
Take 2 of those magnetic strips you have on the cart lid and bolt them to your fold up tray. You can place your nuts and bolts while taking things apart on the strips. No messing with magnetic trays.
Thanks for sharing your toolbox tour. Pro tip suggestion is to get the Gearwrench mid length sockets in 1/4 and 3/8. Super cheap if you keep an eye on Amazon. I’ve gotten them for 40% off. You’ll find in a lot of cases a mid length will be a good complementary to your socket set.
Got my first real “mechanic” job so now going through my cheap tool kits makes me realize how much I’m actually missing. First thing I bought off the truck was a 1/2” and 3/8” Milwaukee combo impact set and I can break lug nuts all day long with the 1/2”. Looking forward to using the 3/8 more. I would love to get a smaller handle electric ratchet as well. Basically going to buy the same cart you have, and I realize I need to basically invest in some decent ratchets since all I have is homeowner grade craftsman kits I keep in my truck. Buying tools is so exciting, yet bittersweet on the wallet, even if you’re taking the budget route!
@@RedLP5000S nope. Not for their intended uses. Modern craftsman tools aren’t what they used to be. I still keep them in my vehicles for emergency’s and tinkering but for every day use there are much better options at a similar price point t
Vintage USA Craftsman tools are great choices today, better IMO than modern Craftsman and most modern Taiwanese let alone CCP versions. Gearwrench is very good. I check Project Farm reviews before I make a final decision.
Thanks, was winder about a box like this and now i see its perfect to move around the garage and definitely hold every. love the ground box idea, I will definitely use one.
I ended up keeping my tool cart stationary and also added the side shelf and I store my power tools and extra sockets. I have filled the top with chrome and impact 1/4 to 1/2" complete metric and I am trying now to get a complete SAE set. I only have a complete 1/4's SAE right now. I know I prob do not need that all but like most guys I just want them. LOL Thanks for sharing your setup. I just started buying Milwaukee power tools this year and I have bought a lot. I really like the M12 line but I do have 2 M18. If you are going to spend the money on a M12 high speed ratchet, check out the M12 insider ratchet. It is not cheap but it comes with a set of metric sockets, 1/4, 3/8, and a hex anvil and you can buy the 1/2" anvil for $10 so you have all 3 sizes in one ratchet and it is 350 RPM which is 50 RMP slower then the high-speed M12 but it has more power. I recently purchased one I am very very happy with it. I would suggest checking it out.
I use the crap out of my Milwaukee tools. I have the 1\4 " drive long neck ratchet, the m12 surge, 3\8 stubby and those are used daily. I do small engine.
I have the same cart with the side tray and my wife liked it so much she had me buy her one as well. Love the cart, unfortunately I'm running out of space and had to shift some of the tools I don't use too often over to my wife's cart.
Nice tour. Bought that exact blue cart for my son-in-law for Christmas. Now we have to fill it up with quality tools to replace the old broken down junk he has. Good ideas. Thanks
Nicely done! For automotive work, I find using the 1/4" baby impact drivers doesn't work in a lot of situations due to their size. The cordless ratchets are much better for most auto/light truck work. The Milwaukee m12 line has some good options, I believe. I have this same cart and have customized it for my needs and couldn't be happier.
The M12 and 18v compacts/subcompacts are excellent for body and interior trim, as well as dashboard work: pretty much anything with a 13mm or T30 and smaller a 1/4" hex or square drive will be fine. Using GM vehicles as an example: most of the interior screw and bolts are 7mm, 10mm, a few 13 or 15mm, T15, and PH2; the body trim is usually T15 or 7mm (or various plastic pushpins), metal skid plates are 10/13/15mm, the brake rotor retaining bolt when present is a T30. I personally lean more for the 1/4" hex over square: square only works with sockets, whereas the hex allows you to use a socket adapter or insert/power bits: I own two different M12 and the Makita subcompact and have used all three at my day job at different times. They start to fall short when you get into suspension, brakes, engine and component mounts: for those you need a 1/2" or 3/8" impact. I've used both air and cordless, both have their place: if you're working in a shop with good air you can't beat a 1/2" air impact, unless you have to walk outside the shop or go help someone on the side of the road. With a 1/2" cordless impact get the biggest battery you can comfortably carry when installed in the tool, that b*tch is going to be heavy either way, but too lite of a battery/low-ampherage and your impact will stall out even trying to remove lug nuts. I tend to lean more towards a cordless for 3/8": my mentor uses an IR compact air impact, I use an M12 compact. You can get a good 3/8" cordless from Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, Ridgid, Kobalt, even Ryobi has some
@@Jujoji * that's very true. Outside the engine bay they are great for those things you mention. I also do like the portability. Throw one in the trunk and be able to use it on a buddies car or something.
Very well thought-out cart. You have what you need and nothing you don't. If you're gonna invest in the M18 impact you might want to look at some impact sockets also. Great idea on the ground box. It is so annoying having to get out from under a vehicle to get a tool. I'm gonna use that idea !!
I have the 1/4” and 3/8” long neck snap on electric rachet a and I love them I highly recommend, if you get the Milwaukee I recomend the long necks they seem to work better in most situations
Good set of tools...I'm professional mechanic. U will blow up bit of crome sockets on impact or with breaker bar no matter what the brand so impact sockets help alot....got piles of broken chrome sockets from all brands aka usa craftsman that cant warranty
I almost got that 3/8 gear wrench set. But it wasn’t 1 for 1 so I felt it was incomplete. But a real good set besides missing a few of the bigger deep sockets.
I used the 5.5 mm once on my old Ford Tempo. Don't remember what it was for exactly, but it's the one really cheap socket I have. It was from a 40 pc set for $3.99!!!!
Agree I have not used a nut driver for say 15 years not sure why they still make them I remember to craftsman ones would stink so bad make you lose your lunch in that plastic storage canvas they had.
Never use your 5.5? And the kit is missing a 4.5mm. I think that’s unacceptable! But seriously they are a must have as a master tech. Because when you do need it and you don’t have it you’re sol
Best electric ratchet unfortunately is the long neck snap on. Head size it the same as milwaukees high speed, but has 20 more ftlbs of torque. Other then that go all Milwaukee
Nice setup! Get your self the tool creeper from HF. Only 18 bucks, the size of a serving tray with caster and makes it easier for us that are crawling around on the ground without a lift.
I have the Gearwrench 120xp 1/2 drive standard length handle ratchet and thought the same as you that l would use it alot but honestly I don’t ever need that fine of ratchet in 1/2 inch I do also have the 3/8 and l use it 50% of the time l need 3/8 drive ratchet
I am not a mechanic at all, but I do have some old cars, I want to work on as a hobby when I just stop working. I have seen the snap on, the matco tools but don't think that is what I need. Can u suggest what are some good tools to get. I am going to begin to build a tool box. So can u suggest. Thank u
Grasshopper you are learning. But you have more miles to travel. Yes I think you should go with a good quality 3/8 drive 18 to 20 volt impact and a full set of 3/8 impact sockets. Also an impact driver with the proper adapters and you could use that like an electric ratchet and also for woodworking. Milwaukee Makita and DeWalt are the same DeBrands I would choose from. It sounds like you already have electrical equipment so I'm only guessing.
Do you find yourself using that Husky set more than your other sockets? I ask because I’ve been thinking about tool storage and I find myself using a cheap socket set due to it having a case. It’s too convenient when under a vehicle. Was thinking of getting the 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 Tekton and just keeping them in the case. Though it does take away from the whole tool porn thing 🤣
Wth are you breaking with that tiny 3/8 breaker bar? For gods sake the ratchet you have is bigger! Get a matco 15 inch 1/2 ratchet it is truly god overall...

1/4 m12 fuel ratchet and a 1/2 m12 stubby impact are probably my most used tools. Can’t recommend them enough
