  • In this video I have a great day of Macro Photography using my Canon EOS R6, the RF 100mm Macro Lens, the Meike MK 320 Flash, and a Crafty Bells Bonnet Diffuser. I concentrated on a flower garden with many insects, including Milkweed Bugs, Calligrapher Bees, Lady Bugs, Katydids, and assorted hoppers as well as a couple of spiders and some Japanese Beetles.
    I feel like I'm slowly improving my macro photography thanks to lots of hard work as well as inspiration and education from these two awesome macro UA-camrs‪@peterviragphoto‬ and ‪@MicaelWidell‬ whose channels I highly recommend.
    If you would like to make a much-appreciated donation to help keep this channel going, send it to miataphil@gmail.com on Paypal or @phil-Thach on Venmo.

    Thx for the shoutout Phil! Great to see you in action with the crafty bells diffuser!👏👏😀 Awesome shots of some amazing species. That poor long legged fly looked messed up😀 how beautiful was that green metallic sweat bee ( most likely Augochlorella )?! Great compilation, thx for sharing !🙌👍

    I've been using the focus bracketing lately that pretty much gets everything in focus but I really like seeing the subject in focus and the foreground and background fading softer. I'm going to have to mix it up more!

    Looks like you photographed a couple of Dolichopodidae flies. Good photos. For identification purposes I like to photograph Coleoptera and Heteroptera from above, but this might not be the most artistic approach … It makes it easier to compare with online guides etc.

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach  Рік тому

      Thank you! I have noticed that while I’m trying to make the most artistic photo possible it often doesn’t help as much with species identification. I should try to also get an identification photo after I bag my artistic shot.

      @PhilThach  Рік тому +1

      Thank you and thanks for watching! I find that I use the auto focus of the RF 100 mm macro probably at least 80% of the time instead of using the method of manually focusing and moving the camera back-and-forth.

    Awesome shots! I really liked the Milkweed Bug shots. I think the color of the bug with the flower background made a nice combination. I'm still on the sidelines deciding on a macro lens.

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach  Рік тому +1

      Thank you, Stephen! I was really excited when I got the first milkweed bug shot because it’s such a special looking creature. I love the auto focus capabilities of the RF 100 and the 1.4 to 1 magnification level. I do still have my eye on the Laowa 85mm f/5.6 2 to 1 macro. It is 100% manual with no data or any electronic contact. No auto focus which I find that I use the auto focus when I’m doing macro photography probably at least 80% of the time which is unusual but I do have an unusual lens. The cool thing about the extra light laowa 85 is it can get into smaller spaces and is easier to hand hold and manually focus by moving the camera back-and-forth because of its small size and weight.

    • @ses4vols
      @ses4vols Рік тому
