    Nice. I just got one. If the Texas weather allows, I'm going to do a little Macro hike as well

    Awesome macro shots! I really liked the redbud, the first ant, spiders and the snail! It's amazing how many bugs are around if you start looking for them.

      Thank you, Stephen. I'm hoping, now that is warming up, I'll be able to find more bugs to photograph. I took a few weeks off of Macro photography after this to concentrate on the spring bird migrations. Spoiler alert, bird videos coming soon. LOL

      Thank you, Peter! Other than a trip to the TN Aquarium, I haven't used my macro lens much since this was made. I've been concentrating on the spring bird migration. But I hope to get back to working on insects soon! :)

    Great macro shots Phil. The ant looked pretty cool up close. It really is another world when you venture into macro. I might be getting hold of the Nikon Z 105mm macro lens to try soon fingers crossed. Thanks for sharing the video 👍🙏

      Thank you, Adrian! That will be interesting to see what you think of the Nikon Z 105 Macro. I really like the F mount Nikon 105. One thing that is special about this new Canon macro is it is 1.4 to 1 instead of 1 to 1 like most macro lenses. Of course, with my Nikon Macro, I could put it on a DX camera and get results like I was using a 1.5 to 1 lens. Come on Canon, make me an RF APSC camera! LOL I've also been considering picking up a Laowa 85mm f/5.6 2 to 1 fully manual macro lens. It's TINY and light. You can get that lens in RF and Z mounts as well as Sony mirrorless. For now, The 1.4 Canon lens is working well for me. It's more versatile because sometimes you want to back up a little and let auto-focus work which isn't an option on that laowa lens I mentioned. I hope you have a great weekend, Adrian!

    There's always a bunch of jumping spiders on that blue handrail at the Curtain Pole road wetland if you get out that way one day.

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach  2 роки тому

      I'll have to have a macro day there on that railing! This video was made in very early spring. I'm working now on a series of videos called "Macro Photography of Bugs from Work". When I started in early spring I rarely found a bug. Now they are everywhere. I found one today without even trying. So, I'll be starting work on episode 3 when I get home. LOL

      @PhilThach  2 роки тому

      Thank you, Tim it is a really nice lens and very versatile with its auto focus. That said I’m considering also picking up the laowa 85 mm f/5.6. I appreciate you taking the time to watch this video and I’m looking forward to yours tomorrow morning.

    One thing I discovered is you can always find Macro subjects in your yard or sometimes in the house if you want to use pots pans Ground coffee the list goes on. Looking good .

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach  2 роки тому

      I agree! I usually only do macro in the spring and summer but you're right, you can find macro subjects almost anywhere! Thank you!

    Looking great Phil! I'm gonna have to try a smaller aperture with my macro lens. The depth of field is so shallow at 2.8 or f4. I'm also going to work with the R6 focus stacking. Happy shooting!

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach  2 роки тому

      In my struggling early efforts I have finally settled on f/11ish to be the best setting for me in terms of a compromise between depth of field and diffraction.

    Great macro shots! The antenna on the wasp at 6:28 is incredible. Hope you get some bees pollinating later in the summer. Did the eye detect work on that green spider? Haha.

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach  2 роки тому

      LOL Eye detect is not very good on bugs! I wish though! That spider has a lot of eyes to look for! The wasp was by far my most willing subject so I had time to work on a decent shot of it. Thanks, George!

    Just got the RF 100 macro, Looking forward to trying it out especially after watching this very informative video, where did you get the diffuser from as I'm having trouble trying to find a suitable one, thanks

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach  2 роки тому

      I bought that diffuser on Amazon and I used it for quite a while but I have switched to using a Bonnet diffuser from a company called crafty bells. They are based in Australia but they will ship to the United States.

    I've got the same flash for my Sony a7riiiA and I really like it. I've had my 90mm Sony macro lens for a little while now and wanted to try a flash for better macro photos that wouldn't break the bank. I find it performs very well for how small it is.

      I've been happy with the MK 320. I learned about it from a UA-camr who specializes in macro.I like that it only needs two batteries. My larger speedlights use 4 so that's twice as many batteries to charge up and carry. I also like the modeling light that it has built-in. We used that the other night to make weird light trails in some long exposure night photography. Thanks, Martin!
