man this looks so organized, my cities I just slap a bunch of buildings together and throw down roads. My biggest accomplishment was when I upgraded an interchange to a small roundabout.
When I get home I'm setting fire to all my industrial zones and rebuilding them like this. It won't be perfect in vanilla but it will be a damn sight better than it is now. Easily the most efficient design I've seen.
I found a small innovation on this that worked really well. I tried the trick with the lane arrows to get the trucks to use only the center lanes, but many of them just ignored it. So I copied something I saw Fluxtrance do, and set a much slower speed limit for those outer lanes used for loading. That worked incredibly well.
A couple of years ago when I purchased the game, this was the first video I watched. It opened my eyes to the possibilities. I tried to do it without mods and it was just impossible. Now after a couple of years of practice I'm going over the video very closely to see how much of this I can replicate. It's just excellent.
I was struggling of the traffic problem in industrial zone your video saved me! Now I’m even excited to build more zone like this, it’s so satisfying to watch the large traffic going through without any jams
Wow, the thought and detail of the road plan is phenomenal. I tend to get bored with these types of videos even though I do learn from them, but yours is informative without being boring and over explained. Thank you for this and will implement many if not all of your ideas. Subscribed! Keep up the great work and will be investing my time into your chanel :)
I only needed to see the first few seconds of how smooth is the traffic of your industrial area to be amazed of such a good layout you have there. Thank you very much to share this with us! Keep up the good work!
After watching for 12 months, I've bought a decent laptop and of course cities: skylines. Been watching tips and tricks all day as you're one of my top youtubers to watch, love aurelia. Just wanted to say thankyou for inspiration and advice.
@@VestedUTuber Im playing on PC and its a shitty tutorial for vanilla. You dont have to make it that difficult in modded. You only need 6-lanes and a traffic manager
Well, I guess with enough patience and a few hundred props and assets from the Workshop, it might be possible to build one, maybe even make it work properly :)
As Akruas stated, you can, in an odd way, build a real rail yard. When I build my yards, I put the terminals "inside" of my yard and then map out the tracks to blend in. You can corral the trains to switch around quite a bit inside the yard to get to the terminal. Container yards and box yards look different, but you can move an appropriate looking building on top of the vanilla yard to make it look different.
It's the first Cities Skylines tutorial I find useful in terms of efficiency and industrial zones. Of course it can be improved o that i would do somethings different, but what can't or who wouldn't? CONGRATULATIONS!!! A stand up ovation!!
this is the most EFFICIENT industrial zone design, i replicate the idea... and now all my industrial zone is self sustained, no need highway connection at all except for private vehicle and services like road mntc, i have a really good train connection... and this design even applies to truck spawning specialize industrial zone like ore and oil... thx a lot
So seriously, this is beautiful and so well thought out. Thank you so much for sharing your utter genius. I look forward to seeing the rest of your videos.
Thanks Akruas! I adopted a similar model without the train, but with seven six-lane roads all going one way and then collecting on to the highway. Works like a charm!
Ground roads= LOCAL traffic within the zone. Elevated Roads= highway traffic in and out of the zone. 2 cargo terminals for going into the city/ pints that way and 2 cargo terminals for going off the map/ points the other way. All roads are 1 way with 2 central traffic lanes and 2 dropoff lanes on the sides.
I've subbed to you, altough it's a bit late! haha thanks for this video, it really amazes me how smooth and how you created this! alot of creativity! I really admire this
Oh man! Thank you SOOO much for posting this! I've been pulling my hair out all week trying to sort out the huge traffic jam that had become my highway. I'd been doing little drawings of flow charts on pieces of paper and then making them in my city (120000 pop) and each time it just moved the problem somewhere else. Grrr! I'd tried a petal design, an inner and outer roundabout design, and a fountain design amongst many others. But I've incorporated your system now (with two outer roads and the double ramp design at the end of each lane) and now everything is flowing real smooth. There's one hot spot by one of my stations but that'll get fixed once i open another outward train track. And I'm actually playing the vanilla game so haven't used traffic mods or owt like that. Thanks again. You've saved my sanity!! 😍
You apologise for the way your video might turn out and yet it's one of the most useful and well thought out videos I've seen for CS. And your plan for a workable industrial zone which has decent traffic flow is certainly one way of achieving it. It reminds me of the old TTD hack for getting multiple platform terminus stations to work properly, where you loop the trains round to the back of the station to reduce congestion. I've tried to do the same thing as this, but I've not tried blocking off the outside lanes yet, I'll have to give that a try. I'd also like to comment on the stations you've used here. One of the reasons you didn't mention is the train congestion: Having more than one station really helps with loading and unloading more efficiently (and I notice you use the same loop method for this as used in TTD as well). In fact, one of my biggest bugbears with CS is the inability to have a proper goods loading yard with multiple spurs for loading trains. I've seen multi platform mods for passenger stations, but I feel a proper goods yard would be a worthwhile addition to the game. But that's not your fault.
I spent 5 hours just trying to get a good industrial layout but i couldn’t do it, I mainly had a problem with the exits because they always clogged up so thaaaaank you for this video, Really needed some help to figure out a good layout for entrance and exit roads :)
Like previously said, this could easily be done without mods. And honestly, it wouldn't even be any less compact. Just use underground metro instead of overhead light rail lines and replace the 2-lane highway sections with 2-lane one-way roads.
WOUH! I was impressed already after 15 seconds of the video, Great job! When I am done with most of the achievements in the game (Yes, just started under week ago) I surely would like to build a large city and figure out how it would work the best, this surely will help at that.
This is the best solution i've seen. I couldn't find this kind of vedio with Korean. Though I didn't realize every word you said, It was very helpful for me. Thanks for the vedio
Love the combination of showing off a thoughtful / creative design yet explaining the functionality precisely to still work as a teaching tool for whatever design you choose to try. However, I really want to know what mod gave you Donuts & Hot Dogs Industry Specialization.
I wish I would have seen this video and commented a few months ago. The way to get the cargo terminals not to back up is to have the road go straight into the terminal and then stop at the terminal. That way the cars drive off the end of the road straight into the cargo bay without turning. There is no blocking traffic then. You can even do it at a 45 degree angle and have a one way road. That way they pull straight in or with a slight curve instead of the slow 90 degree turn
For NON MODDERS and maximize road lane usage, I use 6 lanes to split 2 lanes ship, 2 lanes highway, 2 lanes train. Each will later split again. Each 2 lane will split into 2 single one lanes to feed a cargo terminal then highway return.
i have a sustained zone, a nice connection of train track that goes into the commercial OR exporting, the truck just keep circling the zone, not touching the highway AT ALL
Don't become a truck driver then, this design isn't that uncommon in heavy industrial zones, especially near ports and big import stations from trains.

you don't need to go that much overboard with the mods and highway ramps; yes the industrial areas generate their own traffic with trucks but it isn't that much, a simple bit of zoning with some big roads going through the middle and all around is good enough. The real problem is worker traffic for which you just need a good wide entrance point and some public transport, bicycle encouragement helps a lot too.
OMG. This is definitely a complex system. It is an all out perfection of mastery. Congrats on your high level of thinking. I can now start city that might actually become successful. And I subbed to your channel as well. See you Sunday night. Is it Pacific or Eastern Time?? 7 PM.. I don't want to miss it.
At 10:00 you show the whacky traffic issue with terminals hitting each other coming in/out for delivering goods. Notice the second terminal wasn't doing that. NODES! One thing I noticed is if you have a node in front of a terminal it creates this issue. Delete roads near terminals and create a 12 unit road directly in front so the nodes are at the ends of the terminal and the traffic will flow smoother. ALSO, if you have merging traffic in front of a cargo terminal/ train station you can create a bypass lane for traffic by changing the curb lane for drop off and making it slower and the further lane faster. Then additionally use lane manager to keep traffic from lane change in front of it.
I’m a bit confused, do the traffic have to go through the industrial roads to get to the train station? Wouldn’t it be better to have them outside of the zone? Either way very cool. I do something similar but not at this level. Thanks!
a lot of detail , BUT , I opted to just take the use of the Rail line connections and placed a rail line in the middle with rail connections on either side , and then further down a bit repeated the process , as for my Industrial areas , I created a basic large grid with one way roads inside the grid areas for an easy movement of trucks as the enter and leave the bulk of my factories

I don't understand the downvotes. This is by far the best videos on industrial planning and efficiency I've come across. Well done!
