- Mairi Rankin is without question at the top. She plays the fiddle with a passion. I can't get enough of her cd First Hand. You have to hear Mairi Play in the group Beolach, they are off the charts. Filmed by Sam Ruest in Judique, Cape Breton. She is a fantastic teacher. Thanks Mairi.Sam
People of Cape Breton, keep the culture alive! Love from Montreal :)
Mairi is so awesome! :) she's my violin teacher and shes an amazing fiddle player!
It is a beautiful place. The scenery during Celtic Colours is gorgeous. Yes, that is the way Cape Bretoners speak.
Go Mairi! Sounds awesome.
Fancy tune thare lass! gets me feet stompin.
Aye fine work in fiddling. You go spinn'em
Excellent . . demonstrates the difference between jig and reel rhythms perfectly, and dare I say it makes it that bit easier to play these tunes . . thanks Sam
lovin this rythym.
I LOVE IT !!! thank you
Awesome job on the fiddle there!! Love the lilt, I can never play that style very well...
My friend Bruce MacGregor from Blazin Fiddles plays this. it is TOTALLY ABSOLUTELY ABRACADABRA-ISH! GO RANKIN FAMILY!!!
Mairi's great:) I was in her workshop last year year, at William Kennedy Piping Festival. She's a good teacher!
Amazing!!
Talk about toe tappin'! The lady in the back with the spinning wheel was a tappin' her foot! Great stuff! My Canadian friends tell me I have to go to Eastern Canada. How can I not?

who likes Folk music!......."ELUVEITIE - Inis Mona"
hahahhahah you have NO IDEA how hard i laughed at that. hahhahahahahah ooohh boy. i like you :D taht was funny.
The tune is Pibroch O Donald Dhu
There's no putting it on. Visit Cape Breton and you'll hear the accent. Love the place! Miss it too.
its true. im from tehre but i wasnt raised there and i still have the accent. also. my name is gaelic for hills. i thought my parents meant to do that because of our background. but they had no clue until i told them. coll eh?
I love rewatching this vid over and over.
May I be allowed to remark how beautiful she is?
Her red hair drives me to the wild side.
A very beautiful woman.
Okay the tech bit.
She could certainly teach me a thing or too.
Marie has perfect intonation and executes the rolls as if a highland piper.
I notice her left thumb sticks up.
I am pleased about this as I do the same.
It goes to prove it makes Zilch difference in the right hands.
( well....the Left hand!)
I love this style of playing.
I play in a similar style but did not realise until now my style just happens to be Cape Breton.
I hope I will see more vids of Marie playing on the instructional part.
I think she is very composed.
A brilliant musical technician.
Thank you for this.
God bless you M.
@MrPenfold84 That is an odd and I must say ignorant comment. CB fiddle playing is not a f****ing contest! On this clip she is VERY CLEAN and crisp. I play and I rather like her playing.
What is her name?
does anyone have the sheet music to this????
@Avngingandbright Pibroch O' Donald Dubh
yeah i know.. i thought it was funny.. that's why i said that.
The Cape Breton accent is very much influenced by the large Scottish immigration to it in the last 2 centuries, many older residents still speak Gaelic and they're trying to revive the language.
I assume her accent is tinged with Scottish in parts.
lol sorry that was my fault i thought you said you had no idea what it ment lol my bad
Nice body....I've always like the shape of a fiddle
Can you play something with a native tongue
So sorry.
I spelt your name wrong.
But I hope the context meant something.
Pete
@MrPenfold84 And YOU can do better?
