sounds awesome!! And it DOES so sound like the music played on Cape Breton island--and it IS Cape Breton style--HELLO!! Every one has their own way expression--and I LOVE yours:) I am oficially inspired, thanks for sharing:)
Anna, remember me??...Sylvia Bonaparte from Cursillo at Camp Geddie...the broken glasses girl....hehe!!! your music is absolutely mind blowing....spread your wings girl....you go, girl....hugs and God bless...hugs & Decolores....Sylvie...
debifeb: that's an amazingly arrogant statement from you. You are listening to a truly authentic fiddle form played by a native musician. It's a form and style that is not dissimilar from that played nearly 200 years ago. Bluegrass as a style isn't even 75 years old. Why don't you "youtube up" Jerry Holland, Natalie MacMaster, Andrea Beaton, Kinnon Beaton, Howie MacDonald, Dougie MacDonald, John Morris Rankin, Ashley MacIssac, Troy MacGillivray, ... These people are keeping a tradition.
Hmm...is this the same girl that did some shows with SQUID? I saw them recently in Miramichi NB..well a few weeks ago at the Culturefest here with Blue Rodeo. I was wondering who she was...i was thinkikng...oh yeah they're really good with their drums PLUS they have a good lookin fiddler...lol No it was a great show! Might not even be the same girl haha anyways...regardless...this is a great set! Keep it up!!
did you ever find out what the song is starting at 1:48? I got the information from Natalie McMasters Mom....a bit slower version is on Natalies O'er the Moors among the Heathers medly.. the tune in question is in the sessions.org website it's referred to as a traditional, but its known as.... "Angus Allan & Dan J's"
Very nice playing, Anna. Your fiddle has great tone and it's clear that you enjoy making the music. Post some more, please.
I feel inspired to learn this fiddle. I like to play old time and folk rhythms. I don't care about money or fame. I play for fun.
Sounds like something I'd hear at home! Awesome!
Brilliant tunes and a great fiddler :)
Beautiful tunes Anna!
Love, Love, LOVE the tone of your fiddle! Great playing, Anna! True blue* to the authentic Cape Breton style. ....*Or should I say, Tartan? ; )
Very very NICE!!

Good player. Keep it up :-) I wish PEI still had as many good fiddle players as Cape Breton.
They never did
The Glen Co March, I know how to play it, I'm not sure if it spelled right, you can pick out the good fiddlers when they are playing so lo, Top Notch.
Love it 2:25 when you kick into McNab's Hornpipe!

@shaina8catherine Crossing the Minch, aka McNab's Hornpipe
Sounds very similar to the late great Lee Cremo
i know that one though but there's one before that.
thats awesome, do you ever add heavier dirt to the bow… I find that makes the violin like its own percussion
Mac Tíre Hanneke Cassel is great for that :D

what's the name of the song that starts at 2:08?
@shaina8catherine aha!
Great stuff; keep at 'er (and don't let the b*st*rds grind you down).
cape breton tunes.. but not necessarily cape breton style.. really nice sound though.
Regardless of the fact that she has introduced this performance as "a typical Cape Breton set" I don't know anyone who plays like that on this Island.
Can anybody tell me the name of the tune that starts at 1:48?
CB-Fan from Dodeleben The glencoe march
